Isolation, Quarantine and Health Procedures

Cheyney University process to identify and separate students, staff and visitors’ individuals suspected or confirmed with COVID-19 is critical to mitigate further spread of the virus. The Cheyney University Health and Safety Team along with Housing, Residence Life Team and the Operations Team have developed a plan to be utilized upon identification of a probable or confirmed case of COVID-19 on campus. The plan addresses several aspects associated with a case. Cheyney University has identified two (2) facilities one (1) for the isolation of students and staff and one (1) for quarantine of students and staff who cannot return home or to dormitory living spaces.

Isolation Process

If a student presents to the Health and Safety Team along with Housing and Residence Life Team and is determined to have symptoms and suspected (waiting for results) or symptoms and Lab confirmed for COVID-19, the first step is the student or staff member will be required to isolate according to CDC and PA DOH guidelines.

Living on campus or living off campus and need accommodations: • Student (s) will move to isolation area designated: McKnight

Rogers two (2) beds in two (2) separate rooms. • Room and access will be given by Public Safety Team, Health

and Safety Team and Housing and Residence Life Team. • Emergency Disposable Linen and toiletries have already been procured and are stored on campus. Student or staff belongings will be placed in secure baskets and moved to isolation with the student or staff member. The Health and Safety Team or Public Safety Team will assist with transport to McKnight Rogers isolation areas. • Health and Safety Team and Public Safety Team will maintain social distance and wear mask, gown and gloves during transport. • If Cheyney University van is used for transport, Health and Safety Team will wipe the van down with disinfectant wipes after transport.

Health and Safety Team, Housing and Residence Life Team will be encouraged to obtain the following items from the students’ room or designated work area: • Laptop/instructional supplies • Phone charger • Comfortable clothing (pants, shirt, underwear, socks) • Personal hygiene (soap, toothbrush/paste, brush, deodorant, towel, washcloth) • Wallet or ID card

Health and Safety Team will provide students in isolation: • Tylenol

Cough drops Hand sanitizer Mask Reference numbers to: Cheyney University Wellness Center, Counseling Center, Academic Support, Dining, Cheyney University licensed medical partner Main Line (Telehealth) Health, University Public Safety. Detailed instructions regarding how to properly isolate and when isolation can be discontinued. Daily phone call follow ups Monday through Friday as well as Telehealth visits as needed.

If student requires medical evaluation during their isolation due to decline in condition or worsening of symptoms and it is during regular business hours, Cheyney University licensed medical partner Main Line Health will assess patient via a telehealth visit. If in-person assessment is needed to evaluate vital signs or other medical assessment, Cheyney University licensed medical staff will don appropriate PPE and evaluate the student or staff member at their area of (McKnight Rogers) isolation.

If Cheyney University Wellness Center is closed and student or staff member experiences a decline in condition or worsening of symptoms, they will be instructed to call the Public Safety Team who will contact emergency services and/or emergency dial 911 for transport to Emergency Room and alert the dispatcher that

they are being isolated for possible COVID-19.

Quarantine Process

If a student is determined to have had close contact with a lab confirmed positive COVID-19 case, they will be required to be isolated or quarantined according to CDC and PA DOH guidelines.

Living on campus or living off campus and need accommodations: Health and Safety Team, Housing and Residence Life Team or Public Safety Team will move students to quarantine area designated: King Dormitory two (2) floors to include the 2nd and 4th floors which includes:

1. Twenty-four (24) double rooms 2. Two (2) RA rooms 3. Two (2) full restrooms with six (6) stalls each 4. Two (2) full shower rooms with six (6) individual shower stalls each

King Hall access will be given by housing Health and Safety Team, Housing and Residence Life Team or Public Safety. • Emergency Disposable Linen and toiletries have already been procured and are stored on campus. Student belongings will be placed in secure baskets and moved to quarantined with the student. The Health and Safety Team or Public Safety Team

will assist with transport to room and quarantine area. • Health and Safety Team, Housing, Residence Life Team and Public Safety will maintain social distance and wear mask, gloves and gowns during transport. • If Cheyney University van is used for transport, Health and Safety Team will wipe the van down with disinfectant wipes after transport.

If student is suspected or confirmed to have COVID-19 or has been in close contact with a person who has tested positive for

COVID-19 and prefers to return to their family home to isolate or quarantine. They will be offered the same instructions for isolation/quarantine, on campus resources, follow up calls and the option of Cheyney University licensed medical partner Main Line (Telemedicine) Health will assess patient via a telehealth visit if needed.

Off Campus Testing

If a student or staff member patient presents to the Health and Safety Team, Housing, Residence Life Team and Public Safety, ER, Urgent Care or other Community Health Agency and is deemed COVID-19 positive or presumed positive and it is during Wellness Center service regular business hours:

Student may call Wellness Center for assistance or coordination of care for isolation or quarantine and follow up: 1. Wellness Center Team will coordinate with Health and Safety

Team along with Housing and Residence Life Team if campus isolation or quarantine is needed. 2. The Public Safety Team may transport student from dormitory, local hospital etc. or other agency to place of isolation/quarantine if needed. Infection control protocol for

Public Safety or Cheyney University van will be followed. 3. Wellness Center Team will coordinate with Health and Safety

Team will provide student with Instructions for self- isolation or quarantine and Monday through Friday daily follow up calls will be made by Wellness Center Team while patient is in isolation or quarantine.

If a student presents to the Health and Safety Team, Housing, Residence Life Team and Public Safety, Emergency Room, Urgent Care or other Community Health Agency other community health agency and is deemed COVID-19 positive or presumed positive and it is not during regular business hours: 1. Student may call Public Safety for transport back to campus. 2. If isolation or quarantine accommodations are needed, Public

Safety will call the on-call Health and Safety Team or Housing

Residence Life Team representative to arrange for campus isolation or quarantine for student. 3. If a student is isolated or quarantined on campus after hours,

Health and Safety Team or Housing Residence Life Team will alert Wellness Center Team the following business day to initiate follow up for isolated or quarantined student. 4. If student can isolate off campus and does not need transport or on campus isolation or quarantine, the testing facility will be asked to have any identified Health and Safety Team or Housing

Residence Life Team student contact the Wellness Center Team for follow up and isolation/quarantine guidance. 5. Cheyney University Public Safety, Health and Safety Team

or Housing Residence Life Team will have supplies to provide a student with Instructions for isolation/quarantine from

Wellness Center when needed. 6. Recommend consistent instructions for students to email the Health and Safety Team at mcorbin@cheyney.edu with any question regarding their health and COVID-19 or if they have been tested somewhere or have symptoms to notify

Wellness Center Team so that follow up can be arranged.

Guidelines for discontinuing Isolation/Quarantine A Health (Main Line Health) Service provider will determine when isolation/quarantine can be discontinued. Through follow up calls from the Health (Main Line Health) Service, the student will be determined clear for return to class or work following the guidance from CDC as outlined below.

COVID-19 positive with symptoms:

1. 14 days have passed since symptoms first appeared 2. No fever for three (3) days an no fever reducer medication used 3. Initial symptoms have improved

COVID-19 positive with no symptoms:

1. 14 days have passed since testing 2. No symptoms have developed

Close contact (within 6ft for at least 15 minutes without face covering) of COVID positive:

1. 14 days have passed from the most recent contact of positive case 2. No symptoms have developed

Once isolation or quarantine is determined to be over and patient is cleared to return to their room, the isolation room will remain vacant for at least five (5) days and environmental services will be notified to clean.
