Social Distancing on Campus
Social distancing measures in classrooms, residence halls, dining hall, and snack bar
In general, 6 feet of separation is the distance that should be kept between people interacting within Cheyney University Campus. The CU campus has effectively been social distancing since March 2020 in all campus settings and most importantly in any setting where there is an opportunity for students to be in close contact with one another.

• All Cheyney University Campus classrooms have been socially distancing effective July 15, 2020. Classrooms have been limited to 20-30 students depending upon the size of the classroom. • Cheyney University leadership team worked closely with our dining services partner Thompson to socially distance the Ada Georges dining hall and the Snack Bar and our strategy has been effective since its inception March 2020.
During the Fall 2020 we have added additional layers to student’s meal social distancing strategy. We are including in our guidance for meal periods, asking students as much as possible to stagger mealtimes in order to reduce the number of students in the dining hall at any given time. When students do enter Ada Georges dining hall for meals, they will be asked to do the following:
1. Enter through the main entrance on the Eastside of the building students will instructed to socially distance while in line. 2. Students will the n proceed through the line Grab-Go their meals and proceed through the dining hall and depart West-side of the dining hall. Using this strategy students will observe 6 feet of space with staff or other students while departing the dining hall.
• The Snack Bar located on the lower of Marcus Foster Center has been socially distanced for dining. There are currently 23 round tables and given the historical usage of the Snack Bar 23 tables with one (1) chair each provides an adequate number of seats for meals. If students desire to congregate with one another we discovered during the Summer Bridge session that it is best

to encircle four (4) round tables together which will provide a creative way of being able to eat meals together. Each table is approximately four (4) feet in circumference ample social distance between each student. • The Housing and Residence Life team are continuously working on safe and effective ways to provide direction, safe daily programming and activities for our students. • While in the dormitory’s students are encouraged to distance themselves from others as much as possible by at least 6 feet of space. This may be challenging in the residence halls. While campus-wide gatherings may continue when limited to twentyfive (25) participants, residents should not gather in groups of five (5) inside residential areas. • We encourage students to use caution and good judgement in determining whether to host others in their dormitory room.
Additionally, Cheyney University has placed multiple signage all over campus in each of the sixteen (16) campus properties regarding hand washing upon entering and leaving the classroom, dormitory and dining hall. Students are encouraged to clean before and after each use of desks, program equipment, writing utensils, and other programmatic materials. Cheyney University social distancing guidance will support a 6-foot total distance between any two (2) students.
How will the University enforce mask requirements?
Students and staff will be gently reminded that in accordance with Pennsylvania law requires all CU staff, students and anyone visiting the campus to wear face mask. There are no exceptions to this requirement. You will not be permitted to enter Cheyney University campus without wearing a face mask and you must wear it for the duration of your stay.
There will be a limited number of disposable masks available at the Cheyney University Visitors Center temperature screening area, these are given as a last resort, and there are NO guarantees that any will be available.
