Towns to seek FEMA money

Wallingford and Cheshire public works officials say they will seek financial reimbursement for overtime and equipment after the Federal Emergency Management Agency announced it would provide disaster assistance to towns and cities in New Haven County following May’s storm.

In June, FEMA officials, accompanied by public works, fire officials, and electric division employees, surveyed storm damage in Wallingford to determine whether or not it would be deemed a “major disaster.”
Norton, Doolittle have new assistant principal By Jesse Buchanan Record-Journal staff
The Board of Education appointed an assistant elementary school principal Aug. 23 as the school district prepared for the opening of a new academic year. Kristin Lopa, a reading and math specialist at Chapman School, will serve as assistant principal at Norton and Doolittle schools. She has been an elementary school teacher since 2007. “She’s a well-respected teacher,” Su-
perintendent of Schools Jeff Solan said. “She’ll be a great addition to our team.” Anne Harrigan, a school board member, said she’s been impressed with Lopa and was pleased she was taking the position.
