SUMMER TAKES FLIGHT
ON THE MARKET
Murphy’s house is for sale By Jesse Buchanan Record-Journal staff
The Paul Ney Road home of a U.S. senator is on the market for $520,000. U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy and his family hope to move within the congressional district to be closer to extended family. The house went on the market earlier this month. This year’s June weather might well be called changeable, with plenty of rain, cool temperatures, a bit of sun here and there and lots of windy days. On one of those recent windy days, Cheshire's Matt Mehlhaff saw a perfect opportunity to fly a kite with his son, Andrew, and daughter Amelia, at Bartlem Park. Now that summer is officially arriving with tomorrow’s Solstice, June 21, let’s hope there are plenty more great kite flying opportunities ahead with clear skies and perfect lazy day breezes. REBOA Study
This research study implements an experimental treatment for cardiac arrest that may help more people survive cardiac arrest. The study is designed to test if a device called ERREBOA™ catheter can help save people whose heart has stopped. This device may help to restart a patient’s heart and protect their brain during a cardiac arrest. The procedure involves placing a catheter in the largest blood vessel of the body. A balloon at the tip of the catheter is inflated to temporarily direct blood flow towards the heart and brain by blocking blood flow to the lower body.
New therapy may help more patients survive cardiac arrest.
• Because 90% of cardiac arrest patients do not survive, risks of this study are significant and include: injury to or loss of limb, death, injury to internal organs, and resuscitating a patient with brain injury who may have a poor quality of life.
There is evidence from animal studies to suggest the ER-REBOA™ catheter may be helpful, but it has only begun to be studied in humans experiencing a non- traumatic cardiac arrest, so we do not know if it will work and more research is needed. The use of the ER-REBOA™ catheter itself is not experimental. It has been used many times in the past on patients who have experienced severe trauma. It has shown to be safe in victims of trauma, but it has not been tested sufficiently in patients suffering non-trauma related cardiac arrest.
For more information or to opt-out of this study, please email your name and date of birth to REBOAstudy@yale.edu. Follow us on Twitter @YaleREBOA. HIC #2000023899

There were small time parts in several movies including a heartless scene of him getting killed by horror genre villain Jason Vorhees in the slasher series film “Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives.” In his later years, Paolillo focused on directing and acting on stage in several big productions. However, he will always be remembered for playing the iconic role of Arnold Horshack in the ‘70s comedy television series, “Welcome Back Kotter.” He died Aug. 14, 2012.

COMMENTARY
Advice to graduates that applies to us all By John M. Jaramillo
This time of year, graduates of all kinds are transitioning from one stage of their lives, education, and responsibilities to the next. Here's a message to all of them out there as they make their way: Just keep getting better. Just keep going. That's the best advice I can provide to you. And don't dismiss it because it's simple. A few words can go a long way. Wherever you are, whatever you're facing, or whatever you may be unsure of: Just keep getting better. Just keep going. Actually, I want everyone to heed that advice. It goes for everyone who's moving from what they're doing today to what’s lined up – or not – for tomorrow. We all fall under that category – not just your traditional educational students.
And I know I can't customize the advice to you personally in these paragraphs, but I can try and motivate you to understand that you need to keep going for what's important to you. Too many people give up on who they are and what they can be.

HAMDEN — Sleeping Giant State Park opened to the public Friday for the first time after being closed for more than a year after a tornado ravaged the landscape. Instead of downed trees, the trails were lined with hikers, families, people walking dogs, and nature enthusiasts. Dozens of area residents visited Friday starting at 8 a.m., when the park officially reopened. Wallingford resident Amy Sward visited the park with her dog Luna. “I’ve missed it. This is like my workout,” Sward said. “I’m glad it’s open again.” The park has been closed since a storm on May 15, 2018, downed thousands of trees. Southington resident Jennifer Dunne used to hike at Sleeping Giant with her husband before the tornado. She noticed a lot of changes in the landscape and was glad the trails were finally cleared. “I think its better. Cleaner, neater, easier to get around,” Dunne said. Julie Hulten, Sleeping Giant Park Association community outreach coordinator, walked along the main path and the Tower Trail. Hulten was excited to see people of all ages visit the park on its opening day. “The turnout is amazing,” Hulten said. “For a Friday, we didn’t expect this many people.” Hulten said the day was sig-
nificant because of the work that SGPA members did leading up to the opening. Every Sunday, a group of 50 to 60 volunteers would work to clear and blaze trails. “I’m excited to see so many people. So many young kids and it’s sort of generational. It’s very cool,” Hulten said. “We’re excited, we’re very excited.” The park will be open everyday, 8 a.m. until sunset. jroman@record-journal.com 203-317-2420 Twitter: @JenieceRoman

Citizen: What about trends inside homes?
Town pools open this month for residents looking to cool off. Here’s what you need to know about pools and splash pads in our area.
Kirsch : Some clients are looking for first-floor master bedrooms with bathrooms. Kitchens and baths still are still a top priority. They have to be up-todate. Open concept is still big. Then there’s outdoor living spaces with a patio or deck. Those are on the must-have list. Other wants include office space and a dedicated guest space.
1. Meriden’s pool was scheduled to open Monday, June 17, but the date is tentative. Pamela Fuschino, Meriden’s administrative facilities coordinator, said the pool was patched and repainted this spring. When filled, the pool water could react to the new paint and require pool workers to balance the pH levels.
Citizen: What about trends in finishes? Kirsch : Stainless steel appliances are big, but fingerprint-less stainless steel tops that. Believe it or not, gold is making a comeback. Gold-textured finishes and champagne-bronze fixtures are also trending. Finally, manufacturers are now custom-designing appliances and fixtures to mix and match finishes to exactly what the consumer wants to fit their style in their home.
