Firstly, thank you all so much for your support in this magazine launch, the first issue was received amazingly and the second issue was filled with amazing features in the first couple of days. The first issue raised an incredible £240 for the Samaritans who are needed now more than ever due to the pandemic and lockdowns.

This month we have some more incredible features including an interview with Miss Ocean World Europe. Please keep sending in your amazing interviews so it can be featured in the upcoming issues remember is only £2 which goes directly to charity.

On a personal but pageant note I just wanted to give you a quick update on my latest pageant adventure! Some of you may have seen that I am the new host for Pageant Chats with House of Pageantry, I can’t wait to start interview all you amazing queens for the podcast. Brew Monday in aid of Samaritans Samaritans annual Brew Monday took place on Monday, 18th January 2021.

It is normal to hold Brew Monday on the second Monday in January. This day has been named “Blue Monday,” due to the fact that this day is recognised when most people are feeling low after the hub of festivities and New Year.

It is interesting to note that the word ‘blue’ rhymes with brew.

So, Brew Monday is born. The ethos behind Brew Monday is to bring forward connection - with connection comes positivity.

Samaritans are renowned for connection, listening and providing care and advice which affirms lifetime change. Manned by trained volunteers, their lifeline telephone number is a free number and manned 24/7, 365 days a year.

You are more than a number.

You are human and “it is ok to not be ok.”

Call Freephone 116 123 I was present on the 5th October 2019 at Britain’s Got Talent Finals as part of the Time to Talk initiative, brought to the arena by Ant and Dec.

The rationale behind this is listening. Listening requires your eyes too.

It’s not what is said, but what is not said that is important. It’s about connection and what better way to connect than with a brew.

In these times of uncertainty, it is not as simple as getting together over a slice of cake and keeping in tradition with an afternoon tea.

Ever more it is important to keep in touch; a phone call, a text, a zoom call or fb or social media platforms. Loneliness kills and so does apathy.

It is interesting that during childhood we are encouraged to play with tea sets and even in well-known fairy tales, like Beauty and the Beast, we have Mrs Chip the friendly China companion. A nursery rhyme is repeated by children ”Polly put the kettle on, we shall all have tea.”

Furthermore, during crisis, tea urns come out and, during World War II, came the street parties giving further evidence that the good oldfashioned cuppa has no society barriers or barriers of communication.

Even in the desert friendships are formed over tea.

A hundred Million cups of tea are drunk in the UK daily, meaning a total of 36 billion cups a year. Studies by Dr. Malcolm Cross and Dr. Rita Michaels (Psychologists at the City University of London) have proven that tea has medicinal effects. They proved that it has effects on mood and relaxation, making the brain more alert and helping those with stress to recover. It also brings cardiovascular benefits and releases endorphins, which help to ease pain.

The gesture to invite others to tea is to provide an escape, feed the mind and allow connection with likeminded people.

The ability to listen can come in so many forms.

The term silence is golden is not always true. For those who are reaching out it is, to be able to talk to another, whilst they give you their full attention, is so valuable.

A connection where someone is reaching in, is met with someone reaching out - a chain. What makes a good listener? A person who listens, doesn’t judge and is there and has the ability to listen with ears and eyes.

Often a smile is all that is required. It can say so much be the sunshine in the rain, the positive sign that things will be ok again.

In my opinion, often a listener will talk more than they listen. That closes a door. My advice is to engage, show you are there, be consistent.

Again, in my opinion, the most valuable thing to say is this: “What do you want to change?”. This matters - it shows you are connected, you are engaging, you care. It gives back to the person talking. It brings forward a chance to talk and to bring about positive steps in that person’s life. It says I am with you and we can do this. The word ‘change’ brings forward positives that there is a way forward from this.

In Pageantland we become a Sisterhood; a family. We lift each other.

We put the world to rights. We are human. We make acquaintances that become friends and never more so than during these times of pandemic. In uncertainty, have we bought forward adaptability.

This year the invite went out to come to tea, raising awareness of the Samaritans and raising funds too. For the price of a cuppa, we submitted photos and came together, forging new friendships; inviting others not related to pageants to take part too.

We had the CEO of a company that embraces uniqueness across the genders (Lady Hawk) and we had Stigmawear involved too who bring an awareness that men matter too.

Then there was the family of mums - three generations of them; an Octogenarian (82yr old) who has been the face of a very well-known shampoo brand and their hair products for many years; her daughter and her granddaughter. And, of course, I couldn’t forget the ladies from Pageantland.

The objective to bring all together and brush away the blues over a cuppa, a time to talk, a time to listen. Raise awareness and funds.

What made you decide to compete in your current system?

Actually, it was our fabulous Editor that spotted this one and encouraged me to enter! Being a professional mermaid performer and free diver, with a passion for ocean conservation, it was a no brainer! It was exciting to be part of a new pageant and the first UK Queen to represent and try to pave way and inspire the future competitions. It also meant I took on the role as National Director once my journey had finished and I’m so excited to be able to organise a competition! I immediately started writing down so many ideas and chose the crown so it would be one a future contestant would be thrilled to win.

I really want to push for change, to be able to make a difference in the world and actually see our oceans becoming cleaner and healthier in my lifetime.

For the first year of Miss Ocean, it was held virtually. What was that like for you?

I was really sceptical about a virtual competition and I was going to wait until the pageant could go ahead as a real event before taking part. Then I changed my mind and thought ‘this is the very first one’ and that was quite special and rare to be part of, as there are so many very well-established pageants out there. I am very fortunate that my support bubble, formed in the first lockdown, has one heck of a talented photographer and videographer who came to my rescue when I was told all our submissions needed to be in within 2 weeks - I didn't need to worry AT ALL! Adam is incredible and had so much creative vision!

Although, when I arrived in Sheffield ready to curl my hair and put my make up on, I was told we were filming EVERYTHING that night......I thought we were just going for the evening gown! A cup of tea soon stopped the nerves!

We started filming at 8.30pm on a very cold night in November. We started off with the evening gown round, so I could stay fairly warm in a dress, and made use of the fabulous columns of Sheffield's City Hall, decorated in Christmas Lights and I felt like I was on my own stage, my own catwalk and I 100% threw myself into that strut!

With some hot food and drink inside of me and a warm up in my dry robe, we carried on with some warmth and I donned my handmade National Costume - a replica of the Queen's coronation gown and robe, complete with a mini replica of the crown I had just finished the night before (I seem to work better under pressure!). I requested some of the photos were taken by the war memorial, which was still adorned with poppy wreaths from Remembrance Day and felt really poignant, as well as the Women of Steel statue close by too.

There was only one way the shoot was heading and that was the Bikini Round sometime gone 11pm! We saved it until last to make sure we had little/no people wandering around (dry robe on standby!). Heels on, bikini on, Earring Envy gems in.........engaged "work mode"......it's not 3 and a half degrees, right?!

My bubble were dressed in layers, with hats and scarves on.......I was stood in a bikini and heels walking around a fountain and using it's raised edge as my catwalk. I couldn't smile because it made me shiver uncontrollably, so it was a "moody model" look to help me focus instead!

By the end I couldn't feel my hands at all! It was a relief that my gorgeous girls Laura and Yaz helped me to pack up all my costumes and shoes and had my clothes ready to change back into. By the time we got back to a house to warm up, it was around half midnight and another cup of tea was on the cards.

The Talent shoot was rescheduled for the next day as it was just too dangerous and too late at night for it to happen.

I went to bed in my make up (which I vowed I would NEVER do!) and took care to tie my hair back so it would bounce back in the morning and I didn't have to do anything!

We carried/dragged/hauled my portable pole dancing stage up to the top of a hill with an incredible view, and we set up ready for Day 2 of the shoot. Rather than film a routine to a song, we filmed several chunks of me doing as much as I could in one take, before needing to cover up and warm up. It meant I could churn out as many great tricks and spins as I could in the cold weather, without needing to worry about linking anything into a routine as it would be edited together, with different angles throughout. About an hour later, we were packing up again and I was once again buying warm food for us all!

I also ventured to the beach the following weekend and filmed my entire campaigning video on the beach on my own, arms with my laptop, a camera, and a ring light covered in blankets from the car as a microphone protector, I most certainly got some interesting looks from dog walkers, but I had to talk to myself about all the issues surrounding pollution and what we can do to help.

I felt like a news reporter and was really chuffed with how it came out in the end. At home, I filmed my introduction and a final speech in full make up, hair done, dress on, jewellery and crown glistening away.......in my bedroom! It felt very bizarre, but it was all I had. I even recorded my voice overs for my introduction video in my car to get a crystal-clear sound,

before editing the video. That took about 16 hours to finish, complete with photoshop pages I used to create a slideshow......I even took the plunge when talking about Wales and said that famously long village name!

When the edited videos started coming through from Adam, I was blown away. I cried when I watched the evening gown, as my final speech kicks in halfway through. I have never felt so powerful in all my life. It will stick with me for a long time.

Being virtual, it was hard of course not having the same vibe as being at a real event with contestants (making friends, making those memories in another country, having amazing adventures), but it was a new way of working and it almost took more work to get to that point with all the photos and videos being created and speeches and introductions being planned. It helped to have those rounds thought out and planned with write ups sent over to the judges, as it helped enhance my interview round answers when I could back it up with figures I had previously spoken about and powerful words I had created in my speech.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, and have some fabulous footage to keep watching!

What’s your dream title?

Oh gosh, that's a toughie as I feel I have only just started out on my pageant journey and I already thought I had my one and only dream title with Miss Mermaid UK. I would love to have an International title of course, that is a dream to have all the hard work and dedication awarded globally. My current dreams are Miss Scuba UK and I would love to be part of Galaxy Pageants in the future too. So many incredible and inspirational Queens and their hard work during their reign have come from both systems What was it like when you won?

I was so overjoyed to be awarded a new title of Miss Ocean World Europe, which allows me to continue with my ocean journey and continue my work and campaigning/awareness. This is just the beginning for me.

What have you been doing since you won?

In the lead up to the final, I was posting EVERY single day through December on all my social media platforms! It was exhausting, but so worthwhile. It meant that I cared.

Two of the Top 7 were going to be chosen by the public through voting, with each round being live for points scoring for 5 days each, so it was important I kept people interested and excited for each video and photo

set we had to release. The support from everyone here in the UK was sensational, and I have saved every single comment on every single post to read again and again.

Since being awarded the subtitle of Miss Ocean World Talented and the new title of Miss Ocean World Europe, I have thrown myself into creating eco-friendly and reusable face wipes for my small business on Etsy, all made with a great deal of care and attention. They're made from bamboo fleece and towelling, hemp fleece and cotton and will break down and decompose easily when they are at the end of their life. It’s a great change to make from single use, often plastic filled, and deadly to our planet as pollution. This is a way to get a greener alternative into people's lives.

I've also made hair scrunchies from leftover and waste fabric from previously making masks through the first lockdown, so putting every last little bit to good use.

I have so many other products planned to roll out this year, and I’m collaborating with another small eco-friendly business to get our lovely products out there, as well as liaising with some local newspapers to publish my story, and even planning some exciting moments with one of my jobs.... can’t wait to reveal more this year!

Favourite appearance?

I made a short documentary in the summer with Channel 4 talking about "My Other Life" as a mermaid. Check it out online.

What’s your favourite pageant round? (If applicable) I'm really falling in love with the talent round! I seem to do pretty well! I won Miss Mermaid International Best Talent with the UK girls, and was awarded the Miss Ocean World Talented subtitle sash this time, so I must be doing something right!

Will you be the UK director next year?

Yes! Although I am hoping to continue my journey to the real event this year, which will obviously depend on the pandemic and travel restrictions. I cannot wait to then host my own competition and let our ocean girls absolutely shine on stage! I've already planned sash colours, UK judged rounds, I have a list of potential judges I'd like to invite, photographers, prizes, and sponsors I’d love to approach to help kick start the competition with an eco-friendly, sparkly bang!

If so what type of queen are you looking for?

Someone who embodies, embraces, and breaths the ocean conservation message. I don't want to just be handing over a title, I want someone who is dedicated and passionate for the cause and has big dreams for the future. Even when their reign is over, I would love to see them flourish and fulfil their eco ambitions and projects. Me and my Personality Disorder Lyndsay Mizen: Miss Voluptuous UK Finalist At the age of 36, I learned that I live with Borderline Personality Disorder, and have done since I was very young. Now everything in my life made sense! The feeling different, the anger, the confusing and violent mood swings and emotions. I broke down in that office after realizing that I could now put a name to my erratic behaviour. I could start to heal and rebuild my life around my condition. It was like a re-birth and I felt liberated by it.

So, what is a personality disorder? As the name suggests, it’s a pattern of disorderly behaviour that is intertwined with your personality. It’s a long-standing pattern of thoughts, feelings and behaviours that have a significant impact on your ability to function.

My personality disorder means that I have severe abandonment issues, wild mood swings and intense feelings that are difficult to manage and cause me problems in my interpersonal relationships. I have no filter, which can get me into trouble, I can often be standoffish because I’m trying to protect myself from the pain of abandonment and my moods are wildly unpredictable (and intense!). That sometimes makes it difficult for people to be around me. All of that is coupled with the Depression, Anxiety and PTSD that came out of my relationship breakdown makes it extremely hard to keep my life on an even keel when I’m having a hard time.

All of the behaviours that a ‘typical’ Borderline would direct outwards towards other people, I direct inwards towards myself. This means that I find it very difficult to talk about how I’m feeling and articulate what I feel into words.

I immediately went into Psychotherapy to start dealing with my issues, though the NHS waiting list was so long that I ended up paying for my therapy privately at the price of £40 per hour. My medication deals with my comorbid conditions (the ones associated to my Borderline Personality Disorder, but not caused by it), so my mental health has become much easier to deal with, but I still struggle on at least a weekly basis with typical ‘Borderline’ feelings of inadequacy, worthlessness and crazy emotions but, through therapy, I’ve learned to deal with these in a healthier way.

However, I do know that, without BPD, I wouldn’t be the person I am today, so I wouldn’t change it for the world. I am me and that’s more than enough.

To add difficulty to this already complex condition, I live with an uncommon variant of Borderline Personality Disorder. I am known as a ‘Quiet Borderline’.

I’m still on a journey to ‘remission’. I’ll never be cured of my personality disorder because they can’t be cured, so I’m on this journey for the rest of my life.

They are interwoven into my personality and the only way to do that is to unscramble it from my life and put in place better behaviours that I have to learn from scratch.

Hello, my name is Lydia Rigden and I am 15 years old. I am currently a Pure International UK Finalist & also charity pageant Miss Glamour UK & Warrior Princess finalist.

I entered the pageant way in May 2020 with my parent’s encouragement and the support of CJB pageantry. I wanted to get involved as a way of helping myself, as I have a lack of confidence in myself and hope to develop personally along with helping others too and get stronger as a person.

My current system is Pure UK, I was lucky enough to win a half price entry following a current Queen’s online pageant ‘Runway Next Top Model’ and Ms Jayne awarded me this as she saw potential in me and thought I would represent the system perfectly.

I think my dream title would be Pure International Heritage National Queen. If I was to win a title, I would be beyond proud and would love to help the promotion of my newly formed platform: Lydia’s ‘Bully Buddy’ It is a subject very close to my own heart, creating awareness of the affect bullying has on people, offering help and giving friendly support to people who need it.

In the run up to my pageant finals, as well as starting to develop my platform, I have been fundraising and I’ve also been getting involved in online pageants, supporting others in the community and (when possible) doing appearances in person.

One of my favourite appearances I have done is the Pure Online Photo Competition, which I was lucky enough to win in the Junior Teen category.

Pure UK Finals have currently been delayed due to COVID restrictions, but I am not letting it stop me and get in my way of achieving my goal and competing in the finals. I think that things that make a good pageant role model are someone who is supportive to others in both the pageant community and their own neighbourhood, while also being active on social media platforms to help raise awareness on a chosen topic in addition to fundraising for the connected charities.

What made you enter pageants?

I needed to push myself out of my comfort zone to help build back my confidence post-surgery. It's something I had always thought about when I was younger, so I felt it was a great opportunity to start after my life experiences. I wanted to also use it as a platform to help raise awareness of invisible illnesses and disabilities whilst showing that all bodies are beautiful.

Can you tell us about your journey?

My first pageant was Mrs Galaxy 2019. I hadn’t put much effort into the competition as I wanted to test the water first. I fell completely in love and signed up for Crown and Glory 2019, just after. I won best in interview, publicity and the charity crown. This gave me the confidence to enter a system that could take me to international level. I loved the ethos of Royal International Miss UK and I had already met some of the queen's and director, so I felt at ease. Each day it became more and more like a family, but I also loved that my total focus could go into my own causes important to me. I came 2nd runner up in my division and 1st runner up for Role Model. I will be competing again in July this year, assuming it goes ahead as planned.

What the best thing that pageants have taught you?

That there is a community that is happy to accept people as they are.

It's one of the most diverse industries and that's what I love.

Since being diagnosed with IBD and having my surgery, I have continued to receive discrimination so it’s nice to feel accepted.

What’s your pageant platform and why?

Raising awareness of invisible illnesses and disabilities, to help empower those living with one and to one day end the discrimination we receive. I have three main forms of invisible illness and I struggled to accept the changes they made in my life. It's hard enough adapting, without others judging you and making you feel ashamed.

What’s your dream title?

To win Royal International Ms. UK 2021. I know I have done my best, so I hope it’s enough to achieve this dream.

If you were to win what would it mean to you?

My life has changed massively since 2017, so I feel I'd likely burst into tears. It would mean the absolute world to me, knowing I've achieved a dream of mine despite the challenges I've faced. I would continue working hard on my projects and aim to achieve success at international level.

What’s the best advice you have for fellow pageant queens?

To relax and have fun. Don't put too much pressure on yourself.

What have you been doing in the run up to your pageant final?

I've worked on numerous projects to help grow my awareness and to give back to charity. I've took on board constrictive feedback and have focused on being the best version of me. A lot of things have been put on hold due to Covid and my health but, where it’s possible, I always try to think of new ideas.

Favourite ever appearance?

Oh, wow, there are so many. I would have to say it was seeing my pageant bestie, Abby Louise, achieve her dream title at Pure UK last year. I had been helping her on the running to her finals and you could see the passion inside her. Hearing her name called filled me with so much pride. Mrs World would come 2nd. It was a phenomenal experience.

How has the lockdown due to Covid19 affected your pageant journey? .

Due to my health I've had to shield, so I've probably been out of the house on five occasions since March last year. I would be lying if I said it hadn't impacted my mental wellbeing and because of that I've struggled to find my motivation. Despite this, I've always tried to find ways to adapt and just do my best. I've achieved lots of success so I'm proud of myself. I have to laugh about the Warrior Charity Pageant. It will go ahead at some point in the future. (it's currently on the 3rd date change) Has your reign been extended due to COVID-19?

Finals for Royal were due to be in January 2021, but it’s been postponed to July 2021.

What makes a good pageant role model?

Someone who is passionate, hardworking and caring.

What’s your favourite pageant round?

I love them all, however I always say swimwear because it gives me the chance to show my stomach, scarring and embrace the skin I'm in.

I know this sounds a little odd, as Royal doesn't have a swimwear round, but it's not a necessity.

How do you deal with pageant nerves?

I actually had a bad panic attack at Royal finals last year, but I think I was probably a little tired. I do put a lot of pressure on myself and that's why I say to focus on having fun. Enjoy the moment and what will be, will be. I will do my best and that's what matters. Weirdly, I never get nervous for interviews. It's always something I've been comfortable with and it's grown with my career background.

They advocate fair practices in the fashion industry, as well as educating the public, and people in the industry, about circular fashion. I am a part of the Greek team and, inside my journey with them, I learned more about fashion. I have also started changing my own practises to more sustainable ones. I care a lot for my profession and the innovation that takes place in my industry, that it comes as second nature to have such a platform.

What’s your dream title?

Of course, getting the chance to be the International queen of my system is big enough. But actually, I am the first curvy woman in my country that is heading to an international pageant. Isn't that a dream too?

If you were to win your dream title what would it mean to you?

What made you enter Pageants?

To be honest, I entered my first pageant out of curiosity and, as a fashion designer, I wanted to know what girls, who are considered curvier, think about evening gowns. Then, I got bitten by what we all call the 'pageant bug'.

What made you decide to enter your current system?

I started at Miss Voluptuous and remained there to compete the next two years in the UK. Now, on the third year, I got awarded the national title of Miss Voluptuous Greece to head to Internationals at the end of the year.

My system is one of amazing women that, by all beauty standards, for years were not considered the norm, as they are all curvy ladies. The fact that the layout of the system does not restrict you on your platform, or your charitable actions, are a big plus for choosing my current system.

What’s the best thing that pageants have taught you?

Becoming the International queen would be one of the best chances you can get in pageantry. It is not just a title - it is a responsibility to encourage, educate and also to grow yourself into better person.

That no matter who you are, passion would always be something that ignites greatness in you. I got the opportunity to come into contact with women from many systems and the most passionate ones for their causes are the ones who shine brighter.

What’s the best advice you have for fellow pageant queens?

What’s your pageant platform and why?

I have until October, thankfully, to organise myself for internationals. And, as a designer, I am actually super excited to create my National costume and my evening gown for the competition. But the most exciting thing in the coming months is our digital festival, called ‘Raise Your Voice' for Fashion Revolution Greece. I have many little projects ahead that I hope I can complete.

Well, all I can say is trust a fashion designer to have a fashion platform. My platform is Fashion Revolution. Fashion Revolution is an NGO that was created after the Rana Plaza building collapsed in Bangladesh.

To follow their dreams, no matter if they think they are crazy. My most amazing dreams became true after crazy thoughts sparked into life.

What have you been doing in the run up to Internationals?

What’s your favourite appearance so far?

Recently, one of my favourite appearances was a digital one. I got the chance to film myself reading 'The Little Mermaid' book to children in hospitals for an organisation called 'Reading with Royalty' in the USA. How has the pandemic affected your pageant journey?

The way that Covid has affected me is that all my events have turned digital, so at least I have the opportunity to still work on a few of my projects.

Has your reign been extended due to the pandemic?

At the moment, yes, for just few months. We had to change the international dates due to the worldwide restrictions.

What makes a good pageant role model?

Grace, kindness and a will to help and uplift others.

Becoming a pageant queen, you automatically become a role model, so I believe we have the responsibility to be all of the above.

What’s your favourite pageant round?

I must say for Nationals, the evening gown round but, for Internationals, it is definitely the National Costume round.

How do you deal with pageant nerves?

By breathing deep and by being grateful for having the opportunity to be among other amazing women. So, breath, smile, breath.

Tina De-Bear I am one of the Directors of Miss Diamond U.K. and Diamond Couture. In my spare time, I’m a live-in carer, trying to help people stay in their own homes whilst having the best quality of life. After being a pageant mum for five years, we had the opportunity to run our own pageant. We felt we could bring together the best from our experiences - Danni as a competitor and myself as a mum and spectator.

Georgia Nickerson Georgia is the current Miss Intercontinental England 2019/20. She advocates for women’s health, focussing on period poverty whilst supporting the charity “Bloody Good Period”. Georgia has held three national beauty pageant titles and represented England internationally twice placing both times! Alongside this she works as a model and an aesthetic beauty therapist.

Becky Mary Becky started her pageant journey in 2019 when she competed in Ms. Galaxy UK, where she placed top 10.

Becky is now competing in Miss Atlantic UK as Ms. Lancashire Atlantic 2020/2021.

Becky has a passion for charity work and is a volunteer ambassador for Dementia UK, as well as a Street Angel for the homeless organization, based in Blackpool.

Victoria George-Veale, from Wales (former Miss International w.o.a.) has made history as the very first Face of Women of Heart Awards 2020/21! She is also the CEO of the International online pageant Miss Regal World, founded last year during the first pandemic. This special foundation, founded by Desziree Richardson, supports and celebrates the diversity of women around the World by empowering women and young girls who are fighting for a positive change. This includes humanitarian work, charity work etc. Desziree says “Face of WOHA aims to become the support system women need for a better and more empowered future”. Victoria undertook an in-depth application followed by interview phone calls in the hope of becoming the Face of WOHA. Victoria says: "I am incredibly blessed to receive this privileged position, which enables me to spread my message of positivity further, alongside raising awareness for mental health. I will strive to give people courage and strength through kindness and creating a sense of unity in diversity.”

As the Face, Victoria is working hard to bring people together who may be mentally suffering in silence. She strongly feels that one kind word, a smile or a simple message asking if someone is ok can really affect someone's day or alter their mindset in a positive way. Victoria states: "There are so many new cases of mental health suffering every day and I personally know people who have suffered and are continuing to suffer. It is not at all easy for anyone to experience such mental exhaustion on a daily basis and now, more than ever, I strive to spread happiness and kindness to all, hopefully turning someone's day or even life around eventually."

Prior to becoming the Face of WOHA, Victoria has already achieved in bringing females together online and empowering young girls and women from across the globe through running Miss Regal World, which attracted 125 contestants Worldwide!

“The Good News Show”, on YouTube, is a new show created by Victoria which is 100% dedicated to positive and fun news from the general public! During what is still a trying time for us all, Victoria believes it is vital for everyone’s mental health to watch something which announces positive news, rather than negative. If ever you receive some good news, big or small, Victoria would love to hear from you and possibly feature your news on the show! Shows are released on her YouTube channel (above!) weekly every Sunday evening.

'The Happy Hub' - a creation of Victoria's - is a public Facebook page which welcomes all from around the World to be involved in the positive posts, motivational messages, quotes, joyful photographs and inspirational videos. These are posted daily by Victoria and the private messages through The Happy Hub are always open to anyone who feels they need a friendly chat, word of encouragement or to simply offload. Aryana has been involved in pageants for over 10 years! From competing, judging, and hosting. Aryana has walked many National and international stages.

Previously competing in Miss Universe Great Britain, Miss Supranational, Miss British Empire and Galaxy, to name a few, in 2018 Aryana won the recent title of Ms Diamond United Kingdom, sending her to internationals in Las Vegas!

A BBC radio presenter, television presenter, podcaster, and voice over for many brands. Aryana has over 10 years experience in the media industry, including the south’s only Asian and ethnic radio station Unity 101, made up of amazing volunteers, which Aryana has devoted her time to for over 10 years.

Aryana prides herself on female empowerment, celebrating diversity and bringing diverse voices and communities to air. Aryana was shortlisted for a National Diversity award in both 2016 and 2017 and is passionate about helping and guiding younger ethnic females, in the pageant world and in her career.

Currently Mrs Hampshire Galaxy and combining her radio presenting and love of pageantry, to create her platform and her project Pageant Community Radio, to celebrate diversity and give people a voice. Aryana was the host for the first IJM UK pageant, and the host for TEDx Southampton.

Aryana is so excited to compete in Mrs Galaxy UK in November, and cannot wait to take to the Galaxy stage once again, with her dream of becoming the next Mrs Galaxy UK!

What made you enter pageants?

My mum used to do pageants and always wanted to give me a shot to see if I liked it also.

What made you decide to compete in your current system?

I was the Crown and Glory charity queen in 2019. I’ve also won various charity pageants over the last couple of years, which has given me the confidence and practice to take things further.

What made you decide to compete in your current system?

It looked a great supportive system for the little ones and after following the previous queen’s journey, it seemed perfect. It’s brought Sophia’s confidence out more so and also gave her more opportunities too.

What the best thing that pageants have taught you?

Pageants have taught me that it’s okay not to always win, as the charities get money. I make friends and I get to dress up in big dresses.

What do your school friends and teachers think of you competing in pageants?

A lot of the teachers where a bit wary at first, as they had the stereotype of a pushy parent and child made to go on stage. When they were informed and educated about the pageants and the glitz, where a lot of the misunderstanding comes from, then they have been supportive and even putting up my awards in school. My friends love my crowns.

What’s your pageant platform and why?

My pageant platform is the National Autistic Society. This charity has helped my mum’s cousin personally and even reading about the work and support they offer during lockdown; it really is something to be commended.

What’s your dream title now and I’m the future?

I’m going to stay in Galaxy for now and see how far I can take things, as have made some dear friends.

What was it like when Sophia won?

When Sophia won, we had nipped out for a coffee and where slightly late back so walked in and had the news. She just burst into tears as was really overwhelmed.

What have you been doing since you won?

Sophia has been helping a homeless charity - Help Keep the Homeless Warm in Renfrewshire - every week. Doing drop offs and collecting food/clothing to give to these people. We have also been doing some raffles and fundraising where we can.

Favourite ever appearance?

Galaxy UK was my fave appearance, as everyone was cuddling and picking me up. I also got a shot of the big girl’s stage.

How has the lockdown affected your pageant journey?

It really has affected Sophia, as we usually travel twice a month (minimum) for charity pageants and take part in events where possible. We were organising a walk and another nursing home visit, but that’s out the window as well!

Who is your pageant role model?

Sophia really looks up to Jessica Mary Logan, as she was one of the first ladies to give Sophia her time by taking her for popcorn. She always cheers for her, as she works very hard for charities.

What’s your favourite pageant round?

I love the evening round, as I like the big dresses like a princess.

What do you love the most about pageants?

I like to see friends and the big ladies’ dresses.

What made you enter pageants?

Two things made me want to enter into pageantry. The first was that I’ve loved watching runway videos and Victoria’s Secret since I started modelling at 19 years old. I used them both for inspiration and practice. Then one day while watching a VS show on YouTube, the next video loaded and played, and I remember thinking ‘wait this isn’t VS! Who are these girls?’. They looked amazing; tall, from all over the world - it’s then that I realised, as I read the description, that I was watching a Miss Universe competition. Walking with such confidence, their bodies perfect, legs long, hair on point, make up flawless... it made me long to also walk and show such confidence. So, my research into the pageant began. Many people who know me and my story have often said that they found inspiration from it, been helped or encouraged by it and had suggested that I enter pageants or start a YouTube Channel to spread the word of how I overcame my predicaments. However, I was always nervous and concerned about pageants and the stigma surrounding them and YouTube was only just starting out. I didn’t have the skills at the time to start a channel and no confidence to go to the press and tell my story, as other times I had tried to contact them had ended in failure, or no response. As I did more research and looked at more stories of women succeeding and being heard, I became so inspired I had to try. I had to give it a go and enter!

Can you tell us about your journey so far?

My first experiences in pageantry began with Miss Supranational in 2015, followed by Miss Motors in 2016. These nearly made me give up on the idea of pageants and never wanting to enter, or be involved with it, largely due to how they were run and what I saw there. Then, talking to Tina Da Bear and Bryony Brewin and learning about Miss Diamond UK, I could easily say this is when my true, real and wonderful pageant journey actually began.

What made you want to compete in your current system?

After my chance encounter with Miss Universe through the wonders of the YouTube algorithm, I quickly learned of Miss Supranational and then the Galaxy system was next to pop up. I’ve made no secret of wanting to do Galaxy and walk the Galaxy stage! However, at the time I was new to pageants not knowing the first thing about it. Plus, I felt they all looked so perfect.

Was that me? My faults and failings have made me the person I am today. Could an alternative, dyslexic and autistic person like myself stand with them and hold the crown to the standard it so deserves? Four years ago, I would have said no but today, in 2021, I hope to. Galaxy has such a buzz around it. The team seem to really care and look after their girls and treat them like family. It’s so energising to see that togetherness, that up building & community feeling I am looking for. I want encouragement and inspiration and the Galaxy platform just has it all.

Just because you are good enough to win one system or charity pageant does not mean you could win another. Keep learning, keep walking, keep studying and refine yourself. Sharpen yourself to be better than you were.

What is your pageantry platform? Why? My pageant platforms are working and supporting the Buddy Bag Foundation and The National Society for Autism. As a person who is autistic, I have experienced a lot, and learned a lot from life experiences, that I wish to pass on to others. Autism is sometimes subtle, misunderstood and almost invisible, without a trained eye to spot the signs and characteristics of someone who is on the spectrum. As an adult, many have said to me that they never realised I was autistic, but this is thanks to me learning, for many years, a technique called 'Masking'. It’s something that girls tend to learn to do at a young age, which can lead to them not being diagnosed, or misdiagnosed, until a lot older. it’s exhausting to mask and try and control your movement, thought and stand still just so you don't stand out, feel like you’re being watched, or worry that you fit in and this is another reason I try to work with the National society of Autism to tell those who are constantly masking their condition that it’s ok to be yourself. You are good enough!

The Buddy Bag Foundation is important. Imagine your whole world crumbling apart due to violence and abuse suffered every day; now imagine that all this is happening and you’re only 5 years old. Beaten, threatened, hungry, bullied - even raped - by the ones who should be protecting you - your parents. Then one day you have to leave everything you own and everything you've come to know behind. Your toys, your clothing, your friends, pets.

48,000 children go through this and require emergency accommodation in the UK each year! Children normally are fleeing violent situations and domestic abuse and often have to leave the home quickly, without the chance to collect basic necessary items like a toothbrush, soap or clothing. These children arrive at emergency accommodation with just the clothes they are wearing and nothing more.

‘There are over 68,000 children in care in England currently and almost 400,000 children received support from children’s services in England during 2015’ (Source: NSPCC and the Department of Education, 2014) The Buddy Bag Foundation charity was founded by Karen Williamson. Due to the ever-increasing number of children being rushed into care, the Buddy Bag Foundation was created in response to the rising number of vulnerable children fleeing violent and domestic situations at home. Their aim is to restore a sense of safety, security and stability into that child’s life during this traumatic time. This is one of the first steps to recovery. By providing these children with a few essential items, the Buddy Bag Foundation help make the transition into emergency care a little easier for them. Remember, some of these children are as young as 1 and go through to the delicate age of 16 years of age. A ‘Buddy Bag’ is a backpack that contains all the essential items that a child needs. They include all of the toiletries they need, like soap and toothbrushes etc. pyjamas, socks and underwear. They also include comfort items, such as books to read, a photo frame, colouring pad, crayons and a teddy bear. A ‘Buddy Bag’ is something a child can call their own, no matter where they go. ‘Buddy Bags’ are tailored to suit babies and children, according to age groups and gender, and cater specifically for children aged 0-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12 and 13-16 years old.

Since my crowning I have been volunteering my time and energy (before lockdown) to this important charity and making up Buddy Bags for these children. At each event, 180 bags are packed and arranged ready to send out to these children all across the UK. I've also attended their awards ceremony evening and had the honour to give awards out to volunteers who have gone above and beyond to help these children. I’ve also had the chance to stand and speak at events.

What is your dream title?

My dream title is Miss Universe, but I quickly learned you cannot enter select pageants when married, which was heart breaking as my journey into pageants was so young and I didn't know this at the time. Being told this was bit of a kick in the stomach when I realised, but then I found out you can enter other pageants like Galaxy that don't penalise you for saying your marriage vows. So, as I am a Mrs, my Dream title would be 'Mrs Galaxy International 2022'. If I won the International Mrs Galaxy title, it would be a dream come true. In fact, a six-year training, learning, developing, growing and practising journey of development to become the best I can be, to hold and represent that title to its best. It is why I entered Diamond United Kingdom and pursued Regency International with all my strength and determination, to get ready to compete in Galaxy United Kingdom in November 2021 and understand the work needed to do it justice if I'm lucky enough to succeed and win, then maybe go to internationals and show the world how hard I've worked for the crown.

What’s the best advice you have for fellow pageant queens?

Pageants are no longer just about looking for a beautiful face, or a person who can score the biggest amount of charity money. It’s not about just having a great body for bikini round, or a stunning Leo Almodal dress. Sure, some of that helps you on your journey and pushes you ahead of other girls also competing, but it is about the heart you enter the pageant with, the practice you have put in and the value you place on it. The judges and audience, who have a trained eye, will be able to see the difference and you really can see the difference on stage when you see a contestant who has worked and practices so hard for the crown rather than the girl who just entered for `a crown`.

What have you been doing on the run up to the finals?

The Galaxy United Kingdom finals are in November, which seems so far away, but that has not stopped me planning, studying and practicing. I won’t allow lockdown to stop me or slow me down. For me, I work like the pageant finals are a month away, keeping it fresh in my head and keeping me on my toes. Above all, when the big day comes, I want to be ready. Better yet, being ready means I can relax and enjoy the Galaxy experience, because I put the work in in-advance and did not hope for a last-minute miracle.

Favourite ever appearance?

All appearances have been my favourite. Each brought me joy, new encounters and friends. I don’t seek appearances for the sake of it. The cause needs to appeal to me and mean something; even online campaigns must mean something to me. If I had to pick just one, being involved in handing out awards at the Buddy Bag Foundation gala was the best. It was amazing to be so involved with such an occasion.

How has the lockdown due to COVID-19 affected you and your pageant journey?

Due to Covid, I was unable to enjoy the experience of the Queens Cruise, won with the Regency International title, or go to America to see and become further involved with the Recency system which was saddening. I wanted to travel to different states and, if I could judge some of the state pageants, meeting the potential future queens. Since I have longed to enjoy, embrace and fully commit to my new, six years in the planning, Galaxy journey, but I couldn’t due to the restrictions imposed by the lockdown. I really wanted to put my heart and soul into this, but I’ve had to find new ways to do this.

Has your reign been extended due to COVID-19?

Yes, both the Regency International and Diamond systems have cancelled their final and advised us that we were all going to reign a 'little longer'. A further year on and I am still a Queen to both systems, but I have strongly considered stepping down if handover cannot happen, is delayed or won’t happen till mid-year, mainly because I don't wish for those who don't know me, or what's happening, to feel they can judge me and a person’s intentions, to think I am doing this for ill intent or to disrespect the systems I'm currently in. Make no mistakes I LOVE the Diamond and Regency International systems, my sister Queens and the Directors. They have done so much for me, helped me over the years and taught me so much but I wish to, after a year now, move on to the system I have been training for and longing to finally do, but I will have to see what happens over the next coming months, if the borders will open and flights into the US happen and if, in the UK, they have a tier system that allows us to have the finals on the new date of June. The pandemic has affected many system’s plans and communication over what is happening, what will happen if the lockdown continues past a certain point and has affected a lot of businesses around the globe. We are all in a state of limbo. All Queens long to be able to handover to the next incoming Queen but, safety must come first!

What makes a good pageant role model?

A good pageant role model is one who lives by her word, practices what she believes and is not there to defeat or complete with the others but build up and stand with them on stage. When I walk on stage, I walk with these women, I stand with them, look up to them and wish to encourage them. I do not come to drag down, defeat or overcome. I see pageantry as a way to demonstrate who you are and then the judges pick the contestant they think is ready to hold that crown to the standard it should be held at.

A good role model does not see the other contestants as obstacles to overcome and compete with, but as women who have their own stories, journeys and platforms to learn from and grow from. They see friends and families, sisters and mothers strengthening each other together on stage, or at events and, so, a true role model (I feel) is one that has realised this and learned to focus on their heart and their own strengths, their abilities, their goals and their dreams. Instead of finding the weaknesses and flaws in others and comparing or trying to stand over, they look to the beauty of inside. That’s when you have a good role model.

What is your favourite pageant round?

I love all of them! For me, each round has meaning and reasons for why I love them. The fashion round shows off your creativity, personality and energy with such a fun vibe, and enjoyment. It allows you to think outside the box and I feel it lets you show just how much research you did into the preparation of the competition. Swimwear shows dedication and confidence. It’s not easy to stick to a diet or training plan. If you decide to work out on your pageant journey, that takes dedication, resolve and a solution to train your body and I feel this shows commitment. Yes, you need confidence to be able to walk out and say ‘This is me’ but, hand in hand, I love this round as it’s a way of showing the judges and system the commitment, dedication and energy you’re willing to put into achieving and winning the crown. The evening gown round – a favourite among many - allows you to stand and show the judges and audience the Queen you are, the Queen you can be and that, if they pick you, the Queen you are going to be. I love the grace, elegance and beauty of the garments here too, the design and the fit, the colours and the wow factor that comes with this round. Hence why I can never just pick one round that I love.

Interview with Mrs. Suffolk Atlantic: Natasha Streatfield What made you enter pageants?

I have always taken an interest in pageants and wanted to enter, but thought I wasn’t tall enough, pretty enough or had much to offer. But my Grandad passed away in 2019 and something clicked in my head and said, ‘go for it! what have you got to lose?’, so I took part in my first pageant in 2020, at the age of 34, and haven’t looked back - only to say I wish I had entered earlier.

Can you tell us about your pageant journey so far?

My first pageant was in 2020, where I was Mrs Suffolk Galaxy. I totally fell in love with everything around pageants from the moment I walked into the room and met everyone, to the moment I woke up in the car when we pulled up the drive home two days later. It was a totally unforgettable experience. My journey has been so enjoyable this last nearly a year. Since I applied to become Mrs Suffolk Atlantic, I feel I have learnt so many things, met (on Zoom mainly ha-ha!) so many lovely new friends and even though we have been in lockdown the entire time, I have managed to join in with fundraisers to raise money safely for Mind and Alzheimer’s and doing things I maybe wouldn’t have chosen to do if we weren’t in lockdown. The last year has certainly made me think outside the box and become more confident.

What made you decide to compete in your current system?

I saw Atlantic Beauty Pageant pop up on social media. I did my research and realised this system is the best one for me. Most of my entire working life has centred around mental health in one way or another and reading that Atlantic is raising awareness and money for Mind, and the amount of work Romy (the Director) does for Mind is incredible and that just made me want to jump at applying and I was delighted to get accepted.

What’s the best thing that pageants have taught you?

Everyone is a winner! So many things; how to better myself, grow as a person, how pageantry is for absolutely anyone - there is no strict size, shape, hair colour etc. - just being you is perfect. Also, that you’re never too old to follow your dream.

What’s your pageant platform and why?

I have been raising money for Mind, as I totally support this charity and can’t praise them enough, but my platform is Alzheimer’s.

The hardest job I have ever had was when I decided I wanted to work in the care sector. I got myself a job as a career on a dementia ward at the age of 20 and it was tough! It was the hardest job mentally and physically that I have had. The 12-hour shifts were an eye opener! I was offered to do a Diploma while I was working there and centred it all around Dementia which I passed. Sadly, my

grandad then got diagnosed with Dementia. He had a long 10-year hard battle with the disease. I helped out where I could and, once he was taken into a care home, I would sit for hours with him singing to his favourite songs and taking him out for a walk around the garden of the home. My dog, Teddy, used to visit regularly, which always brought out a smile. Unfortunately, he lost his battle in 2019 and I will always be grateful for the Alzheimer’s charity for all they do; from the coffee morning groups that are set up around the local areas, that my grandad could attend at the start of his diagnosis, to the end-of-life care support you can be given.

What’s your dream title and if you were to win what would it mean to you?

Mrs Atlantic UK! I would love to compete internationally one day, representing the UK as Mrs. I would love to be crowned as Mrs Atlantic UK - I would be bursting with happiness and feel so proud of myself! It would mean a lot to me knowing that I’m not too old or being married doesn’t stand in your way. I would continue to support and raise awareness for Mind and Alzheimer’s. I have applied to become a volunteer for Alzheimer’s, but due to Covid there is a hold on joining. However, once we are past some of this pandemic (fingers crossed its soon!), I would be able to volunteer where I can, proudly wearing a new sash and crown, and continuing my pageant journey.

What’s the best advice you have for pageant queens?

Enjoy every single moment of the experience from the start of applying to the end. It’s an amazing journey and don’t be shy. Be proud of who you are and do your best - everyone does amazingly well.

What have you been doing in the run up to your pageant final?

Sadly, due to the pandemic, a lot of things I had planned have been cancelled, but I have managed to get some charity fundraisers in, one being a very organized, time slotted, cupcake day and I raised over £100! I have also taken part in a few other fundraisers. I have participated in a lot of online campaigns and I recently contacted the local food bank which, to my surprise, was closed because of Covid, so they are holding collections in the organizers garden. That is lovely, so I have had a few trips down with some extras I have brought with my shopping, I have been trying to get out and about as safely and as best I can within the current rules and guidelines.

What’s your favourite appearance so far?

I was lucky enough, when we had the break a few months back, to be able to get out when I was asked if I would mind doing a quick shoot for a local bike shop. I jumped at the chance! I have always wanted to have a go on a motorbike! We didn’t move, but I got to sit on about four different ones, which actually was enough - they are bigger up close! Ha-ha! Everyone was so interested in my title and wanted to hear all about the pageant I was taking part in. It turned out to be a great couple of hours. Everyone wanted a picture with me and my sash.

Covid has changed the finals from physical to virtually how do you feel about that?

I am so excited to say that Atlantic will still be going ahead this year, on the 24th April 2021, virtually. I can’t wait to do my hair and make-up and get filming each round. Don’t forget to watch us! It will be live streamed. I cannot wait.

What makes a good pageant role model?

I think everyone is a good role model for all different reasons. Personally, I am just proud of myself and hope I portray myself in a nice manner so that people think ‘she’s doing fab!’. I don’t let anything hold me back - from my short height, to my health. If I want something, I will work hard and do my best to achieve it.

What’s your favourite pageant round?

I love each round for different reasons, but swimwear stands out for me. It’s showing the world you are proud of who you are and rocking the stage with confidence.

How do you deal with pageant nerves?

A few slow, deep breaths but, honestly, you’re having such an amazing time and making new friends that you don’t have time to be nervous for long!

Miss Regal World

The Regal World pageant system and its inaugural queens of 20/21 have taken the pageant world by storm! The CEO of Regal World (Victoria George-Veale) created this international system back in April 2020, during lockdown to keep spirits up, spread happiness and to create a place for all women and young girls around the world to make new friendships and to empower one another through a sense of global unity. Regal World strives to empower females through kindness, encouragement, strength and positivity, alongside priding itself on being an extremely diverse pageant. The pageant was so successful last year (attracting 125 contestants from all continents of the world), that it is continuing this year!

The pageant is open to girls and women from around the world; whether they are of single or marital status, have given birth or not.

Interview with Savannah Hall: Miss England Wildcard and Miss Eco UK Finalist

My name is Savannah Hall, I am 20 and currently a Miss England Wildcard and a Miss Eco UK Finalist What made you enter pageants in the first place?

I have always admired how each individual system has its own incredible ethos and how supportive it all seems to be. I dreamt of being a part of it but never thought I was good enough. After getting into acting and modelling, I finally thought that it didn’t matter what others thought - I needed to have the confidence in myself. Plus, my boyfriend saw how much I wanted to apply and really pushed me to go for it, which was wonderful! I’m glad he did!

Can you tell us about your pageant journey so far?

I have never competed in pageants before. I entered Miss England around September time and was invited to compete as a wildcard, which felt incredible. I’ve recently been selected to compete as a finalist in Miss Eco UK and I’ve had an email, literally yesterday, confirming a place in the Miss International UK this year as well! I am so excited to start my pageant journey and I cannot wait to see where it leads!

What made you decide to compete in your current systems?

I decided to compete in Miss England because I’m quite patriotic and wanted to support my country. I also really support their ethos and charity of beauty with a purpose. It’s a wonderful system to get involved in. I entered Miss Eco because I am an avid supporter of eco rights and getting this planet back on track! My mum is a vet, so I have always grown up with animals around me and I have a huge soft spot for nature and all it can provide to us. We need to nurture and look after this planet, because it is so beautiful and it’s our home. It looks after us, so we should look after it. If I can raise awareness towards eco rights, they I’ve done one thing right.

What the best thing that pageants have taught you?

That the people you meet, even in a short space of time, can become some of the most important people in your life and it shows you just how wonderful it is to use your voice to raise awareness and support of others and worthy causes.

What’s your pageant platform and why?

I have recently become an ambassador for Connection UK, which I am so excited about. I want to raise awareness for mental health and how debilitating it can be. So many systems have one particular method they follow and if you don’t conform to their diagnosis process or therapy process you are often deemed ‘fine’ which, for many, is not the case. I want to help raise awareness of the fact that we are all individual and beautiful in our own way, so should be treated that way and not forced to conform.

What’s your dream title?

I couldn’t pick one… I’d honestly be happy with any, but of course I’ll say either Miss England or Miss Eco. If you were to win what would it mean to you?

If I were to win it would be such an honour. I would be able to show others that no matter what you have been through, or how you feel about yourself; you are good enough and you are beautiful. Plus, I would finally be able to use my voice to promote some incredible causes and hopefully make a change in the world.

What’s the best advice you have for fellow pageant Queens/finalists?

Be confident, be happy and love yourself, because you are unique, and no one can take that away from you. Have confidence in your abilities - you were picked to compete for a reason… now show your worth.

What have you been doing in the run up to your pageant final?

In the run up to the final I have been getting myself fit with a wonderful online subscription called Savvy4Life that promotes not only fitness, but a healthy mind, body and soul. I’ve just completed Jog on Dementia to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society, as I lost my grandmother to dementia In September 2020. Now I’m looking for a new eco charity to get my hands stuck in to!

What is your favourite ever appearance?

As a pageant girl, I haven’t made one so far, as lockdown has meant many limitations. So, I’d have to say Jog on Dementia, as It meant I could get out the house for a wonderful charity and raise awareness through social media. I’m looking forward to lockdown ending so I can get out and help!

How has the lockdown due to Covid-19 affected your pageant journey?

Lockdown has meant I haven’t been able to make as many connections as I would hope. I’m loving meeting fellow pageant girls, but it’s all through social media and I’m a sucker for a hug! I want to meet these incredible girls that I’ve become so close with, but I also want to get out and volunteer with charities and get my hands dirty! There’s an animal rescue centre just up the road from me that I can’t help because of the restrictions. Helping over social media is not as therapeutic as reality. However, it has meant I can research the pageants, so I really understand my role and what they stand for. I spend my evenings watching past crownings and all the gorgeous dresses!

What makes a good pageant role model?

A good pageant role model is someone who truly belies in their cause and will use their voice for good. Pageant Queens and contestants can truly change the world and that shouldn’t be taken advantage of. They should be kind, courageous but down to earth. Someone willing to help others and try to make this world a better place.

What’s your favourite pageant round?

I will always love the evening gown round. Ever since I was little, I loved getting dressed up, even if there wasn’t an occasion! All the glitz and glamour gives me star eyes and makes me feel like I could take on anything.

How do you deal with pageant nerves?

I have yet to work this out!! Hopefully, by using my Pilates and yoga work to centre myself, getting whisked up in the glamour of it all and by comforting myself with the friends and family around me.

Interview with Miss United Kingdom Rose Woman - Clare Hurst

What made me enter pageants?

I had always had dreams of doing pageants. It had been a dream and passion of mine for a long time and was always something I had long to do. I was ready in myself to go out there and follow my dreams and ambitions in the beauty pageant industry.

When did you start competing in pageants and can you tell us about your journey?

I competed in my first pageant in 2017. That was Miss North West Wigan Beauty, and I was so nervous.

It been my first one, but I knew in myself this is was my dream and I had been practising so much, so I went on that stage and did my walk and - can you believe it - I had won my first title as Miss Wigan Beauty! What an amazing moment it was, I couldn't believe it.

From there I took part in charity pageants like Miss Enchanted Christmas and Photogenic Miss Sparkle Beauty, then, in 2018, I won Miss UK Rose United Kingdom Role Model. Then I went back to compete in my final in 2019 and won the title of Miss United Kingdom Rose Woman, which I am so proud of.

What made you decide to compete in your current system?

When I researched it and read about it, I thought ‘Wow! This sounds like an amazing system that welcomes anyone!’. It sounded family-orientated and I thought to myself than I am going to enter this one, as it really stood out to me.

What’s the best thing that pageants have taught you?

The best thing that pageants have taught me is to always be myself and, if you don't win the first time, just keep on climbing that ladder as it will happen when the time is right.

What’s your pageant platform and why?

It is Mind UK, because a lot of people are suffering with mental health problems and don't have anyone to reach to. That's why I am raising awareness and money, to show how it can affect people. This is a very important issue that people should be made aware of. So far, I have raised £100 and hoping to raise more.

What’s your dream title and what would it mean to you to win?

My dream title would be to win Miss European Rose as it would be such an honour. I have worked so hard to promote my title and system and to have an amazing title like that would be a dream come true. If I were to win that title, it would be such an honour and I would be so proud. I would continue to keep on doing what I am doing, promoting my title, wearing it out and about and doing everything that can to promote it.

What advice would you give to other pageant queens?

Just be yourself and let your personally shine. If doesn’t happen for you, never give up, just keep on going and it will happen. Just remember that's it not about winning – it’s taking part and making friends.

What have you been doing in the run up to the final?

I have been keeping busy by donating my clothes to my local clothing bank, writing to magazines and newspapers (I have already been featured in two of my local newspapers), supporting my Sister Queens and helping raise money for my charity. I am very determined person and proud of how much I have achieved and how much I have done.

What’s your favourite appearance so far?

When I got to meet my local MP, Tracy Brabin. What an honour it was! I just couldn’t believe it. She was lovely and when I told her what I had done for charity she was very impressed with me and we had a photo together. That was the best day ever and will never forget it.

How has the pandemic affected your pageant journey?

My final being postponed. It hasn't been easy at all. My final was meant to be last year but got postponed until June this year. But I have kept on going and stayed strong through it all by helping my loved ones get through, by spreading positivity with my videos and supporting everyone. I am doing as much as I can with appearances which, in total, has been 31. It’s an amazing achievement to say that when we have been in lockdown. I am just so proud that I kept on going and never gave up.

What makes a good pageant role model?

Someone who is very supportive of their Sister Queens, who will be dedicated to their system and will promote it and the charity and someone who will always be themselves, as I believe that's what makes a good pageant role model.

What’s your favourite pageant round?

It would be fashion round as it’s so upbeat and it really boosts my confidence. I feel amazing inside of me.

How do you deal with pageant nerves?

I just try to stay calm and positive and to go out there and enjoy myself. That's what it's all about.

Interview with Sarah Kana-ah: Ms Somerset Atlantic Ms Somerset Atlantic, Sarah Kana-ah, 33, is a radio presenter, producer, journalist and a mental health ambassador. She currently holds the title of Ms Somerset Atlantic as part of the Atlantic Beauty Pageant. Having graduated from Southampton Solent University with a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, she is now the founder of Somerset Anxiety Support, a non-profit organisation supporting those living with a mental health condition. As well as this, Sarah is the founder of Empower - Protecting Women’s Safety, a platform which aims to empower domestic violence survivors by teaching them basic self-defence techniques. Empowering abuse victims and supporting those suffering from mental illness is Sarah’s lifelong mission. Being a survivor of domestic violence herself, she knows how difficult it can be living with the mental trauma which is left behind after leaving an abusive situation. Her mission is to empower other victims by helping them gain back their confidence and inner strength, through teaching and enforcing boundaries and helping them realise their own worth. She says ‘’Creating a network of fellow survivors who are focused on empowerment and healing is so powerful.” Sarah is a mother of one, who suffers from anxiety herself so she knows just how isolating and lonely it can get.

This is why she created Somerset Anxiety Support, a safe, confidential space for mental health sufferers to come together to share their experiences and help each other along the way. As part of the organisation, she organises monthly guest speakers who come along and support those in need, as well as organising social events to help encourage people to socialise, build friendships, have fun and challenge their anxieties by doing something they wouldn’t usually do. She says “Laughter, socialising, exercise, and networking are all proven techniques that increase endorphins that are known to help reduce anxiety and improve mental wellbeing.” In her own time, she volunteers for MIND, the mental health charity. This involves working on the emotional support crisis line, offering that vital support and assistance to those in urgent need. Sarah loves working for the BBC, as it’s all about empowering others through giving them a voice and a chance to be heard by giving them the opportunity to share their story far and wide.

One of Sarah’s biggest highlights of 2020 was walking the catwalk at the Paris Oriental Fashion Week, at the Carrousel Du Louvre, showcasing the incredible designs of Gina Frias. Her community efforts and fundraising efforts in 2020 alone include: raising nearly £1,000 for various charities (SIDAS, MIND and Meningitis Research UK). Throughout the first lockdown, she delivered and collected over 80 Easter eggs for NHS staff working in her local hospital. She did a toy collection for the children’s ward at Musgrove Park Hospital, which saw nearly 1,000 presents handed out, thanks to donations from a number of local businesses, schools, nurseries and people within the local community. During lockdown Sarah launched an appeal for SIDAS (Somerset Integrated Domestic Abuse Service) which saw a huge amount of donations all shared out between women’s aid shelters and safe houses across Somerset. Due to COVID-19, Sarah’s reign as Ms Somerset Atlantic has been extended by an extra three months, but this allows her more time to work on her platforms and continue doing the incredible work she is doing within her local community. As a mental health ambassador, the Atlantic Beauty Pageant seemed such a perfect fit for Sarah, as the pageant’s chosen charity is MIND - the same mental health charity that Sarah gives up her free time to volunteer for. It’s also a system that helps empower, encourage and inspire all women no matter what age, race or shape, focusing on each finalist as an all-rounder rather than just a charity figure. Sarah is really looking forward to competing in the Atlantic Beauty Pageant finals virtually this April. She hopes to take home the title of Ms Atlantic UK, with the ultimate goal of inspiring and helping more people on a national level and continuing to be a symbol of strength to others.

What made you decide to compete in your current system?

I entered Miss Eco due to this pageant being entirely dedicated to being eco-friendly and the environment. I was so excited to enter once I saw about it supporting our environment and animals, as I am a firm believer in saving our environment and our animals. This pageant was so enticing and I was deeply impressed by their support to save our planet. I am a supporter of our eco rights; we need to care for our planet, as our planet is our home.

What has being a Miss Eco Finalist taught you so far?

This pageant has taught me how wonderful it is to use your voice and raise awareness to support an amazing cause! This pageant has also taught me true sisterhood and what it feels like to have genuine friends support your every move.

What have you being doing in the run up to the final and what are your future plans?

I’ve been raising awareness for Cancer research. I am also working alongside my local rescue to host events and sponsored rides to gain donations. I have also been supporting my Queens in their causes and awareness. I am taking part in messy4mind to support mental health and I will be working with my local food bank to secure donations. I am also excited to be litter picking on the 14th with my fiancée! My local rescue and I are working hand in hand by designing a Facebook book page to host our events. We will be hosting a fun ride to save our bridle ways and raise donations with a BBQ later on (once Covid restrictions allow) however, in meantime, I will be doing a sponsored ride of 40 miles and all donations will be given to my local community. I will be hosting a live auction in a few weeks, as well, for everyone to get involved in! On top of that, I will also be working to support my local food bank and dedicate as much of my time as I can to helping them bring in food and donations.

Do you have a dream title?

I don’t really have one, as I would love to one day represent my country, the UK! What would it mean to you if you won?

I would be honoured to win, and it would mean the world to me. I would be left speechless and over the moon to have won. I would hold so much pride to know I was selected to hold the Miss Eco title.

What’s the best advice you have for fellow pageant queens?

The best advice I can offer is always be yourself. Never change who you are just to fit something you are not. You are beautiful and amazing as you are and I highly recommend allowing others to know you for who you are.

Favourite ever appearance?

As a pageant girl I have not made one yet, due to lockdown. However, I would think designing the Facebook page with my local rescue and getting ready for our events. I am excited for lockdown to end.

How has the lockdown due to Covid-19 affected your pageant journey?

It has affected my pageant journey by postponing our pageants, however, it has allowed us more time to prepare.

What makes a good pageant role model?

A role model for me would be our very own Mollie, Miss Eco Director, as she shows true passion and support for our every goal. She is a true definition of a good role model in my eyes. She has supported me and become my own pageant role model.

Mother and daughter pageant duo Lily & Marigold Pageant Bio Lily Ahonen: Age 43 Ms. Western Provinces North America 2020-21 Ms. Galaxy Calgary 2020-21 Marigold Mioc: Age 11 Miss Junior Regal World 2020-21

What made you both enter pageants and who was the first one to compete?

Marigold entered her first pageant at the age of six. She won the title of Little Miss Calgary 2016. My mother used to babysit a young girl who had won Little Miss Calgary many, many years ago, so Marigold was aware of the pageant and had planned to enter as soon as she was old enough. I was in awe of how Marigold had the confidence to be on stage and speak in front of so many people. I was terrified of public speaking for most of my life. I told this to Marigold, and she then dared me to enter a pageant! I summoned up the courage and entered the next year, at age 40!

Can you tell us about your pageant journey’s so far?

Marigold held the title of Little Miss Calgary 2016 and National Canadian Young Calgary 2019. She also competed in Little Miss Calgary in 2019 and won the Friendship Award.

I competed in the Ms. Calgary pageant in both 2017 and 2020, and Miss Regal World in 2020. I held the title of National Canadian Ms. Calgary 2019 and Miss Angel Queen 2020. I won the Director’s Choice award and first runner-up in the Ms. Virtual Universe pageant in January 2021.

What made you both decide to compete in your current systems?

I really loved the Regal World system, as it is an international pageant, and we were able to meet women and girls from all over the world. Both of us competed online in 2020, and Marigold won the title of Miss Junior Regal World. I have signed up again as a contestant for 2021. Pageant Director, Victoria George-Veale, is just an incredible person and we adore her!

I am also in the Miss Galaxy Canada pageant system. I really admire the Director, Sindy Withans, and her initiatives to raise money for the ‘Give Kids the World’ organisation. She also has created a lot of special merchandise to make the experience more magical.

We are both also competing in the Canada North America pageant. I love the stunning rhinestone sashes and crowns, which all of the delegates receive - they are just outstanding and breath-taking! Pageant Director, Marc Gagnon, is just lovely and takes care of all of us ladies.

Now that I think about it, the Pageant Director really makes the difference when deciding which system to compete in.

Do you watch each other compete? If yes ....What’s it like seeing each other compete?

Yes! I felt so nervous the first time I watched Marigold on stage! I couldn’t believe how much confidence she had. It was very inspiring to me to watch her, at such a young age, just being fearless. She has been to my pageants and is always there cheering for me, which really helps me to have the courage to do it. We are always encouraging each other.

Are you planning on competing together in the same system in the future?

Yes, Marigold has just registered to compete in the Canada North America pageant for February 2021. I have the title of Ms. Western Provinces North America. I’m hoping she will win a Provincial title and be able to join me to compete in Florida! It would truly be an incredible mom/daughter trip of a lifetime!

What the best thing that pageants have taught you both?

We have learned how far we can all come with support and encouragement from our Sister Queens. Pageants have taught both of us how to become better at public speaking and given us both more confidence. We have even learned things about what style of clothing and colours would best suit us. I have also learned to be much more comfortable on stage and in photoshoots.

What’s are your pageant platforms and why?

Both of us volunteer with Love with Humanity Association, which operates outdoor food banks in Calgary. We also have been delivering food hampers. Food security is a critical issue, especially during the pandemic with job losses and people stuck in quarantine. I also volunteer with Gems for Gems, an organization that helps survivors of domestic violence.

I am also an advocate for blood and organ donation. I am a Living Organ Donor, having donated one of my kidneys to a childhood friend in 2019.

Marigold and I are both involved with APAR Initiative, which helps youth to develop STEM and leadership capabilities. We volunteer with many other organizations locally and globally. We often give speeches at global summits online.

Marigold is a Youth Ambassador for HundrED, an educational organization based in Helsinki, and for 1Girl, a global empowerment group for youth. We both volunteer with Engineers without Borders as well.

What’s are your dream titles?

I would love to compete in an International Ms. Universe pageant one day and it would be incredible to win the title!

Marigold’s dream title would be to first win Miss Universe Canada, and then Miss Universe!

What was it like when you won?

I was a bit shocked (okay-very shocked!!) when I found out that I won! I am still pretty new to pageantry and started at age 40. I had never done anything like this before and was so scared of drawing attention to myself in any way. I was very honoured and humbled to have been selected from such an incredibly talented group of women. It did give me more confidence, especially seeing how much my public speaking and interviews skills had improved from where I started.

What’s the best advice you have for fellow pageant queens/finalists?

I would say just be yourself. Be authentic. Try your best, but don’t be discouraged if you don’t win.

There are so many rewards just from the experience. Enjoy the whole journey and the lifelong friendships you will make.

Marigold’s advice is to be yourself, be confident and have fun!

What have you both been doing since you won?

We have been volunteering a lot, mainly with the food banks. We have also been collecting laptops, tablets, phones and printers for donation to people in need. We have been giving speeches at global summits online and trying to serve our community however we can.

What is your favourite ever appearance together and apart?

We have both been working with 24-hour outdoor community food banks in our city, and also doing deliveries of food hampers. We have attended many grand opening events for the new locations of the food banks.

How has the lockdown due to Covid-19 affected your pageant journey? & Has your reign been extended?

Yes, I had planned to attend the Nationals in Toronto for Miss Galaxy, but it was postponed until 2021, which extended the titles for one more year. I entered a few online pageants last year. It was much easier for me, being online, than in person, on a stage. I feel like this greatly helped me to gain experience and improve my skills in a less intimidating way.

What makes a good pageant role model?

A good role model to me is someone who exhibits kindness to everyone. Someone who is down to earth, and willing to help. Someone who volunteers and uses their title to make a positive difference in the world. This can be through charity work, fundraising or even bringing attention to causes.

What’s your favourite pageant round?

Interview is my favourite round for sure! I have worked hard to improve my public speaking skills and look forward to sharing my experiences, opinions and ideas.

Marigold’s favourite pageant round is evening gown. She loves to dress up in a fancy gown, with her hair and makeup done.

How do you deal with pageant nerves?

I just tell myself ‘Be yourself. Don’t try to be something that you’re not. Just be genuine.’ I also think of my daughter and how fearless she is, and that inspires me.

Marigold likes to focus on herself and not compare herself to others. Comparison can cause you to become more anxious.

Crowns and sashes does Eco

For the longest time, I always felt there was something missing in my life. Something that made me unique. I had just left my third secondary school and finished my GCSEs, ready to face my new challenge of A-Levels at yet another new school.

Up until now I had been ‘the girl that was good at drama’ and was now having to carve a completely new identity, which for most people is a great opportunity. For me it was a death sentence. I had done this far too many times and once again, I didn’t have a niche.

A little while later, I was trying to figure myself out the annual ‘Clothes Show Live’ event. It attracts thousands of wannabe models, perfectly crafted fashionistas and those who just want a bit of escapism that the fashion world provides; anyone can be glamourous. That was where I was scouted to be a part of Miss England. Me? Yes me. I wasn’t ready to accept it then, being and over eyelinered teenager with probably no sense of flair. But yes, I was selected and never looked back.

Eight years later and I look back every so often thinking how lost I must’ve been, but I’m not now. I found my niche: an eco-queen with a purpose.

Now, the purpose of this article may be me and my journey, for sure, but it is also about the pageants that give women, who love the environment, a specific platform for their causes, be it plastic pollution, saving the bees, or my cause ‘Conservation Education’. It is these particular pageants that give girls the devoted time to promoting the environmental issues that face our world today.

“There is no better feeling than competing onstage, no bar of chocolate, no teddy bear, AND NO event finish that compares to it. It’s a pageant girl’s addiction” There are three pageants that serve this exact purpose, one of them being a part of the ‘Big Four’ pageants. Miss Earth, Miss Eco International and Miss Environment. I have competed, or am due to compete, in all three of these pageants, all with a unique process but a combined effort to raise environmental awareness.

So, time for a little bit of background: Miss Earth is one of the most coveted titles in the world. The reigning titleholders dedicate their year to promoting specific projects and often address issues concerning the environment and other global challenges through school tours, tree planting activities, street campaigns, coastal clean ups, speaking engagements, shopping mall tours, media guesting, environmental fairs, storytelling programs to children, eco-fashion shows, and other environmental activities. Miss Environment and Miss Eco International share the same activities. What brings Miss Eco International to the table is their unique take on environmental issues with their tagline ‘Courage, Beauty and Sustainability’.

These three qualities a girl must have a plethora of knowledge about if they were to take the crown. A crown that its founder Dr Amaal Rizk is very proud to behold. This is what I try to champion. Environmental issues are often plagued with doom and gloom and have become a subject that no one wants to talk about. Me, I like to consider myself the positive influence and voice of environmental issues that will actually motivate people to make a difference.

So, you want to compete in an eco–centric pageant… great! This is where I step in.

The progression is simple. Just like any other pageant, you complete a form about all your vitals, however, this is where crunch time begins. The most important part is to develop your message, this is where you need to be a genuine eco-aware woman. This is the foundation of your journey and all the appearances you will do in the run up to the crown. This is where you need to love it. I’ve seen girls have a message where they don’t follow up or have the knowledge to back it up; research is key! There’s no point in saying ‘I love animals’ and then not know the facts on animal fur, or even yet still wear leather.

You must live and breathe your message.

If you were to ever compete in one of these pageants it is, of course, highly recommended! Any fellow eco warrior is a friend of mine! The typical pageant question of ‘why did you enter this pageant?’ is more important than ever, as you are to be seen as the powerhouse of environmental issues. How are you going to answer that question? How do I? I enter because this isn’t even second nature to me. I love the world I live in and if there’s an opportunity to make it better then I will, and the best part? Everyone can! There, that’s the first question sorted. Now I can build on that, what do I care about most in the world? Education. It’s my day job, it’s what I believe is the key to solving most problems. So, education is my starting word, now what about it? Education could cover so much, from forest schools to just having more knowledge about the National Trust. What is important is that it applies to YOU. Then it’s time to work on your appearances, preferably related to your advocacy. So, education being mine, yes - I could go into a primary school but, hey, that’s my job! Funnily, it would make appearances a lot easier for me as I’m living my advocacy, that’s why you need to choose one that is relevant to you.

How do I even begin with wrapping this article up? Well, I think the best way is to give you all some quick-fire tips to be successful in an eco-pageant and eco loving in life!

ECO TIPS 1. Get to know your area. Yes, you may know the shops and attractions, but do you know your local history? What is your town famous for? Have you been on a walk or used the National Trust app to locate picturesque landscapes near you?

2. Do you still use plastic water bottles? If you do, try to find a water bottle that will last you. I recommend Turtle Can as they keep your cold drinks cold and your tea hot… all day.

3. Try vegan. It has been proved that water consumption is at its peak when feeding livestock, if you missed Veganuary, set your own goal.

4. Go outside. Recently, lockdown put me in a position that I never wanted to be in and that was away from the gym, forcing me to use makeshift gym equipment. My body. I run, use my bike and complete yoga exercises every day. Great for the body, great for my mind… and purse!

5. Donate to a charity that you love. I am an ambassador for WWF. I started giving £3 a month to them, which contributes to the protection of animals that I love safe from poachers.

Interview with Parminder Kaur

“The purpose of the beauty pageant is to find one's personality, one’s own strengths and weaknesses as a person gain confidence, raise self-esteem and prove to people that it is not impossible to have beauty and brain”

I started my journey in 2017 by entering in Ms. Face of the World in Birmingham. After that I was selected for Ms. British Isles, Ms. Galaxy United Kingdom and Ms. Rose International. I am the titleholder of Ms Crown and Glory 2019. Now I'll join Ms. Diamond Australia, Ms. Curvaceous UK, Top Model UK and Britain’s Got Talent. I am the winner of the Judge’s Choice award of the 3iii International Indian Icon competition. I want to make my name at an international level. It’s my childhood dream. I want my dreams to come true and pageantry gave me the golden opportunity. My dream title is Ms. Universe. I hope I can win this as winning, for me, means I can guide the next girls who wish to choose this place. After I won Ms. Crown and Glory 2019, I sent my resume for next level of competition. In that run I was chosen for 3iii International Indian Icon.

This show was held in Chicago, in the US. I won the Judge’s Choice award. Now I have been selected as the Executive Partner of same show for Season 5, being held in London.

The best thing about pageants is learning about each other’s culture, making new friends and the hard work you do to shine. My best advice to others in pageantry is to focus on your goal, never give up. Practice more and more and win it. A good pageant role model should influence you in a positive way and lead you down the right path. A true role model will never judge you by your past.

My pageant platform is awareness of the Asian culture, so people can give proper education to their girls, trust them and make them strong, but Covid and this lockdown has totally stopped me. All of my social life, my pageant lifestyle, everything is finished. It’s horrible. But now, a little bit is possible online. My American show was online through Zoom. When we can compete again, I can’t wait to compete in the evening round as it’s my favourite. I love English culture the same way I do Indian culture. To get stage ready and deal with my pageant nerves I do practice in my class. I walk in front of the mirror. Practice more and more.

I am also trained in classical dance, which is the art of expressing feelings, ideas and thoughts through your hands, legs, and especially your eyes. Dance is a form of worship; a type of yoga which purifies the mind and body and provides peace and moksha. Through the art of dance, life becomes graceful, disciplined and it can help us learn more artistic methods of expressing one's emotions and feelings. It was a big achievement for me to win the Judge’s Choice award at Indian Icon. Jury's from Hollywood and Bollywood watched me and gave me feedback. It’s a very big dream come true. After watching my performance, Mr. Loungues Farndis said “Parminder - you love yourself!". It was a big reward. I also sent my dance video for Ms. Diamond Australia for the talent round.

Can you tell us about your Pageant Journey so far?

My lovely daughter, Daisy Whetlor, had won the Miss Teen Great Britain title in 2013 and as part of the pageant family she was invited to watch Galaxy. I can remember watching the Mrs. competition and thinking ‘Wow! Those women are SO brave getting up on that stage! I’d NEVER have the nerve!’

After a prosecco or two at the Queenies Christmas Party that Holly, the Director, used to hold, I found myself agreeing to take part! Seeing those brave Mrs. contestants had ignited something inside of me... I thought it would be great to do something for ME!! As a wife and mum, you often come at the bottom of the list. Raising a family is all-consuming and self-care wasn’t what it is today! Plus, I’d seen first-hand just what a positive effect competing was having on Daisy.

I was so scared to even tell anyone I’d entered, and I only had eight weeks to prepare! My goal was just to get on that stage and not make a fool of myself. Placing hadn’t even entered my mind, especially as I realised at 43, I was the oldest by far in the Mrs. category!

I can’t begin to describe how I felt when I was crowned Mrs Galaxy UK 2013 that night! Daisy and I shared such special times, both being titleholders at the same time, and flying out to compete at the 2014 Galaxy Internationals in America as part of Team UK with her by my side was an experience I’ll never forget. I was so proud of us both when we placed First Runner Up in our categories. Galaxy will always hold a special place in my heart, as it’s where it all began for me. I returned as Mrs. Galaxy Europe 2014 to compete again at the internationals the following year, and placed FRU again!

In 2016 I entered the UK heat for the prestigious Mrs. World pageant – the largest pageant in the world for married ladies – and won! As Mrs. World UK, I travelled to South Korea to compete at the international finals and WOW! What an experience! It was huge!!! We had a tour bus emblazoned with Mrs World that drove us around and everywhere we went we were followed

by TV cameras! It really was on another level! I was very happy to make Top Eight.

What made you decide to compete in your current system?

When it was announced that the Miss Great Britain organisation were introducing a Classic category, I just knew I wanted to take part, even though I thought I’d retired! Despite having success as an older Mrs, I felt it would be really nice to compete alongside women of my age and I know I’ve still got lots to offer! I’ve actually been on the judging panel of a couple of Miss Great Britain heats, so I was confident in the fact that it’s a well-established, reputable and respected competition.

What’s the best advice you have for fellow pageant queens/finalists?

Be yourself – it’s absolutely pointless to be nothing less than your true authentic self! We are all unique and beautiful in our own special ways and should embrace our differences. Back cover winner What have you been doing in the run up to your final?

Since being announced as a finalist in November, I’ve totally thrown myself into raising awareness and funds for the two charities that the Miss Great Britain finalists are encouraged to support – Cancer Research UK and Alex’s Wish – Conquering Duchenne. I’ve raised over £500 so far and, with seven or so months until my finals, I am confident I’ll be able to tip the £1000 mark! I’ve been on BBC Radio South, appeared in local press, taken part in a ‘Confidence in Lockdown’ initiative, held Zoom bingo nights with my clients and friends, been interviewed by a local lifestyle magazine and an American pageant publication!

It’s one of my favourite parts about competing!

What is your favourite ever appearance?

Ooh, tricky! I think it would definitely have to be something Daisy and I did together when we were both reigning Galaxy Queens in 2014. It was such a special time experiencing that with my daughter by my side and travelling to America together as part of Team UK. How has the lockdown due to Covid-19 affected your pageant journey?

Despite not being able to work because my beauty business has had to close due to the pandemic, the lockdown has actually had a positive effect on my pageant journey! For someone who is VERY untechnical, I’ve been forced to learn new skills such as how to use Zoom and how to make reels on Instagram! It’s been great fun! I’ve enjoyed having actual conversations on the phone with people for interviews and going online too.

What makes a good pageant role model?

I think a good pageant role model is someone that inspires and encourages others.

What is your favourite pageant round?

I love them all! I love the interview as it gives the judges the opportunity of actually getting to know you the person, as opposed to just seeing you perform onstage. I love evening wear because who doesn’t love feeling like an elegant Queen! I even love the swimwear round because, in my opinion, it demonstrates a commitment to looking after yourself and being confident in your own skin.

How do you deal with pageant nerves?

I believe there’s a scientific idea that says it’s impossible to be scared and excited at the same time so if I feel fluttery with nerves, I tell myself that its actual excitement I’m feeling! It really works for me!

Freya Moore: Young European International Teen Miss Leicestershire

My name is Freya Moore, your Young European International Teen Miss Leicestershire, and I am 14 years old. I came across pageants when I was looking for stage opportunities on Star Now with my Mum. I love performing arts and have been lucky enough to be in four professional shows. This was when I came across Galaxy pageants and entered! I competed in Junior Miss Galaxy for two years coming 3rd Runner Up and then 2nd Runner Up. I was hooked on pageants from doing my very first one! I loved doing work in my community, fundraising and meeting so many new friends.

I chose to compete in Yemi, which is my current system, as had heard some amazing things from my friends and was really taken by the idea of being able to fundraise for your own chosen charity. This was important to me. Pageants have taught me how much you can do to help in your community and what a difference you can make. I am now so much more aware of things because of everyone’s awareness campaigns. It’s taught me so much.

My platform is DIPG which is an aggressive childhood cancer. It stands for Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma. It starts in the child’s brain stem and, with a 0% survival rate, it takes every child it touches. I chose this to be my platform as Isla Tansey, a little girl from my hometown, lost her battle to DIPG when she was only 7 years old, two years ago. It touched the whole community. Isla enjoyed painting and hiding stones for people to find when she was poorly and when she died her family set up a charity for Islas legacy to continue called ‘islastones foundation’. They encourage people to paint stones and write ‘DIPG awareness, photo, post on Facebook #islastones, REHIDE’ on the back of the stones. Stones have been hidden and found all over the world, so Isla’s legacy truly does continue. However, much needed funds are needed as there is practically no funding from the government for research and with a 0% survival rate this is not going to change without research. Funding only comes from charities such as islastones.

I would love to win at the finals next February and take the national title and then my dream is to get to Texas and win Internationals. It would mean the world to me to win, as I have so many plans and having this title would help me so much with my platform, as bringing America and the UK together would only make it stronger.

My best advice for fellow pageant queens is to just be yourself. Stand by what you believe and if you choose a platform make it personal to you. You can’t work at something unless you feel the passion for it.

I have been doing so much in the run up to the finals. I have raised over £8,500 in my pageant journey so far. I did a lockdown challenge raising awareness for DIPG and challenging people to try new things. I made my own positivity bracelets with my favourite quote ‘I have been given this day and I intend to make it a good one’. I arranged a lockdown virtual Zumbathon and made my awareness video for DIPG with the help from so many Queens. My new campaign, #Promotepageantpositive, is to promote the positives of pageantry, as there are still so many have negative views around it. Myself and Shona Harkin, who is UK’s National MS Coventry, arranged ‘Hero Day!’, in honour of all of our DIPG hero’s, on World Cancer Day and I have so much more planned!

My favourite ever appearance has to be my awareness video! It was shared over 100 times and viewed nearly 40,000!

This was more than I could ever have hoped for.

Covid has not affected my journey. If anything, it has made it so much more! I’ve planned so much to keep my mind focused and I’ve achieved so much during lockdown but, due to Covid, I will now be competing in February 2021.

I think a good role model is someone who inspires you. Someone you can learn something from, or makes you want to do something good. I aspire to work my hardest in order to inspire others.

If I had to choose my favourite round it would probably be interview, as that’s when the judges get to meet you and get to know your personality before they see you on that stage.

I deal with nerves by believing in myself, knowing I have tried my best and I am happy with my achievements. By being prepared and making sure I’m not rushed and have some ‘me time’ too.

Can you introduce yourself?

Erica Grace Parkinson. I am 7 and I am a Miss Wigan/North West Beauty Junior Finalist.

Have you competed before if so, can you tell us about your journey?

Yes. I did Miss Wigan/North West in 2019 and it was my first pageant, I got two side awards: Most Confident and Best Catwalk. I used to do dance and gymnastics, but I was shy, and pageants stopped me from being shy and made me happy, so I wanted to compete again.

What made you decide to compete in your current system?

I have lots of friends that do Miss Wigan/Northwest and I love the crowns and sashes!

What the best thing that pageants have taught you?

Not to be shy and scared.

What do your school friends and teachers think of you competing in pageants?

They always tell me well done and I like showing off my walk in class.

What’s your dream title now and in the future?

Miss Wigan Charity because I love raising money for charity! I raised lots of money for Blessings in Disguise before I started doing pageants and I love planning fun things to do to raise money. if you were to win what would it mean to you?

I would be very, very happy and excited because I’ve done lots of hard work.

Climbing Snowdon and meeting Molly Mae! How has the lockdown due to Covid-19 affected your pageant journey?

I can’t do as many events now and I miss my friends.

Interview with Dionne John: Mrs. Somerset Galaxy What made you enter pageants?

One of my friends entered Galaxy and I didn’t know anything about pageants at all. I was curious and looked into it. I loved the look of the system and realised Galaxy supported a very important charity close to my heart. At first, I didn’t have the nerve to enter. I was thinking maybe I am too old and not good enough to do this, I was really nervous. Eventually I plucked up the courage to send off the application form and never looked back.

Can you tell us about your journey?

This will be my fifth year competing in UK Galaxy as Mrs Somerset.

I have been on such an incredible journey over the last four years.

At the beginning I had lost all of my confidence, as I had put on a lot of weight during my pregnancy and felt a little bit lost being a new mum with all these new body changes. Pageants have brought back my confidence and taught me just to love my body how it is, my stretch marks my wobbly bits - the lot! I am so proud to say I have won Mrs Congeniality, Mrs Publicity and Best Interview and placed 1st Runner Up at Galaxy last year. My Galaxy journey has made me really grow as a person and I have got to do incredible things that I may never have done, such as fire walks and a 15,000-feet skydive.

I also have raised over £8,500 for charities. The most incredible thing about pageants is the community, the sisterhood and the friendships you make.

What made you decide to compete in your current system?

I love everything about it I have such an amazing time each year I cannot recommend it enough. Galaxy is also a system that has no height or size restrictions and you can be married and have children.

The Christie Cancer charity that Galaxy supports is very close to my heart as it supports the research of a rare cancer primary peritoneal cancer. I lost my biological mother Anne to this one year ago.

Because of this research she took part in a trial giving her an extra two years of life with her family.

What the best thing that pageants have taught you?

To love my body how it is and believe in myself.

What’s your pageant platform and why?

My platform is heart health awareness I have a #makemyheartstronger campaign going at the moment, as February is Heart Awareness Month. Ladies from all different systems are making a heart out of their hands and spreading the awareness. This is very important to me as my mother had five heart attacks and a quadruple heart bypass three years ago in France and I am so happy to say she survived. Heart health is so important to prevent this from happening - it can happen at any age. I have raised over £1,000 for the British Heart Foundation and supported various events for this very important charity.

What’s your dream title?

Mrs Galaxy UK and Mrs Galaxy International.

If you were to win what would it mean to you?

If I won, I would probably pass out! Ha ha! No seriously it would mean everything to me. It’s a title I have been working towards for four years. It’s the dream!

What’s the best advice you have for fellow pageant queens?

Always be kind and enjoy every moment - life is too short.

What have you been doing in the run up to your pageant final?

I have joined an amazing team at Pageant Land and I interview a lovely pageant lady every Thursday for Queens Table. I have been getting involved and supporting others online campaigns. Also, at the moment, I am doing a raffle to win a dream dress to raise money for the Christie.

Favourite ever appearance?

My biological mother always loved Peter Andre. Peter held a dinner charity night in Taunton, and I attended as Mrs Somerset. I spoke to the team previously and surprised her by taking her with me. I will never forget her face when she got to meet Peter. In fact, she burst into happy tears. It was a dream she got to do before she sadly passed. I cannot thank Peter enough for doing that.

How has the lockdown due to Covid-19 affected your pageant journey?

I have had to adapt massively and learn how to do things online. This has been a challenge for me at 42, as I didn’t do anything with computers at school - it wasn’t a thing back then.

What makes a good pageant role model?

Someone that is kind and supportive and willing to help others.

What’s your favourite pageant round?

I love fashion wear! it’s a perfect time to show a bit of your own personality. It’s certainly my favourite round to watch too! I love seeing what each contestant comes up with.
