Hello readers and welcome to Issue 3!

If you follow Crowns and Sashes Magazine on social media, then you are aware that we have expanded the team! We have two new

members to help with social media and we are now doing video interviews, which will not only go on social media but our YouTube Channel too!

Hello everyone! My name is Faith-Louise - UK's National Junior Miss Staffordshire. I am Crowns & Sashes Magazines Social Media Queen.

It is an absolute honour to be working alongside our amazing team. We are working so hard together and creating you all incredible issues every month. We are so grateful for all of your support and helping to raise an incredible amount of money for Samaritans

My Pageant journey began in January 2020.

I have made so many new friends and I have grown so much in confidence. I love making new friends and being on stage as I am a dancer, singer and actor. I have been in six professional productions and also on Britain’s got Talent. During lockdown, I have really enjoyed being able to help support others by getting involved in their campaigns and charity events. We all work so very hard supporting each other and raising awareness that I wanted to be able to celebrate

everyone's achievements. This is where I created Queens of Awareness. Everyone has been so supportive of my platform and I am so proud of everyone. We all work incredibly hard.

Hi, I'm one of the new Crowns & Sashes Social Media Queens. My name is Taylor and I’m your Miss South Yorkshire Galaxy. I am so excited to work with the other amazing girls involved in making this brilliant magazine, for such an important charity, come to fruition.

My Pageant journey

My pageant journey started in the first lockdown. I had realised my confidence and motivation to do anything had dropped and I wanted to do something about it. I had been browsing social media and saw an advertisement for the

Galaxy Pageant system and I thought this would be exactly what I needed to grow my confidence, and to push myself out of my comfort zone. That was the start of a stunning experience that I will never forget. Through my journey as a

finalist, I have accomplished amazing things that I am beyond proud of, from volunteering in my local community, raising money for charity and taking part in campaigns with paramount causes. I have been given some opportunities that I am beyond grateful for: being interviewed by the wonderful Hannah Golding from Sparkles and Rhinestones, to raising awareness for my platform - and so much more!!

Firstly, thank you to Crowns & Sashes Magazine for asking me to join the team as the Hostess with the Mostess! I have had a busy nine months, since I got accepted into Atlantic, raising money and awareness for Alzheimer’s and Mind.,

while preparing for my first virtual pageant. If 2020 has taught us something, it’s how to adapt to change and that goes for virtual pageants now too! I am incredibly excited and looking forward to filming my walks and having my interview.

The final takes place on 24th April and the butterflies and excited nerves have already started to kick in, but I can’t wait to watch with everyone else!

I have spent most of my life working in a nursing home. I have also worked as an activity coordinator & home administrator.

My name is Melissa Gibbons I am 14 years old My title is Miss Wigan and Northwest Beauty Finalist 2019/2021

What made you enter pageants in the first place and have you competed before?

My friend started and I loved it but also my sister who is your Junior Miss Crown and Glory UK 2019/2021. I haven’t competed before - this is my first ever titled pageant system.

What made you decide to compete in your current system?

I decided to compete in Miss Wigan and Northwest because it is a compact system and I feel like it is all inclusive to everyone and we all try to help each other any way we can.

What the best thing that pageants have taught you?

Pageants have taught me that you can be any type of person and everyone will support you.

What’s your pageant platform and why?

I don’t have a pageant platform, but I am raising money for the Wigan and Leigh hospice and the UK Sepsis Trust.

What’s your dream title?

My dream title is to be Miss International or Miss Teen Wigan or Northwest.

If you were to win what would it mean to you?

It would mean the world to me if I won.

What’s the best advice you have for fellow pageant queens/finalists?

Always be yourself.

What have you been doing in the run up to your pageant final?

I have been preparing my fashion and evening gowns and I have also been working on my walk.

What is your favourite ever appearance?

My favourite appearance would either be Pure UK, or the Colour Run I did in 2019.

How has the lockdown, due to Covid-19, affected your pageant journey?

Lockdown has pushed back my finals, but I feel like it has helped me build some confidence.

What makes a good pageant role model?

A good pageant role model always helps another pageant queen, or finalist.

What’s your favourite pageant round?

My favourite pageant round is Fashion, because I feel like it brings me out as a person.

How do you deal with pageant nerves?

I deal with my pageant nerves by playing games

with my sister, or singing, as it gets my mind of it.

I got into competing when I was seventeen. I was crowned Miss Teen Dublin and

competed in Miss Teen Ireland. My mum spent weeks driving me around Ireland,

going to different events. I won Best Interview, which was quite surprising to me. I

really enjoyed the competition and didn't want to stop there. I went on to win Miss

Wexford and compete in Miss Ireland.

Acting is my career but competing gives me a different rush. It is a completely

different challenge, as I’m not playing a character but being myself on stage. When I was a child, we moved back to Dublin from London. I had a different accent to

everyone else in my new school and I stopped talking for about a year. I eventually snapped out of it when I started doing drama classes. It was then that I realised how important it is to push yourself and set yourself goals.

Miss Ireland opened so many doors for me. I gained a lot of experience and went

on to win Ms Worldwide 2017/18. I understand everyone has their own interests

and goals but competing has helped me focus on my health and fitness, giving back and reaching out.

Being crowned Miss Elegance of the World, I went on to compete internationally at Miss Global United States. The competition rounds were Opening Number,

Swimwear, Evening and Interview. It was so much fun competing internationally, and I loved meeting Queens from around the world. Miss Global focuses on empowering women, embracing cultures and their inner beauty.

My platform is raising autism awareness. I have been busy fundraising and

supporting the National Autistic Society. I did 7k for 700k. These are extremely challenging times for teachers and parents. There are, sadly, systemic failures in

providing help for children with special educational needs. I have also written some articles on autism awareness during the pandemic. I support The Irish Heart Foundation and The Mater Foundation.

I truly can’t get over the amount of support I have. When I receive messages, texts or calls, my heart jumps to think I have such incredible people in my life who

believe in me. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I want to give this my all to make everyone proud.

Interview with Megen-Rose England - Miss Teen Pageant Girl York

Can you introduce yourself?

My name is Megen-Rose England. I am 15 years old, and my title is Miss Teen Pageant Girl York.

What made me enter pageants in the first place?

Before entering my first pageant, I was bullied throughout secondary school. I was at my lowest point in life and my confidence was at an all-time low. I entered pageants with the hope of making new friends and having something to take my mind off everything. Little did I know, 2 years later, how much love and happiness pageants have brought me!

Tell us about your journey?

My first time being a pageant finalist, I had the honour of being Miss Junior Teen North Yorkshire. This was the

first time we had ever entered a pageant and at the time I was very naive to the whole experience! I knew very little

about the whole process, but I would constantly seek opportunities to expand my knowledge and try and get to know the girls, and the system, so I was prepared! I created an Instagram dedicated to pageants so that I could keep

focused and reach out to other pageant girls to ask questions and hear their experiences. The weekend of the pageant was incredible. Being there for the first time is a feeling and experience I wish to live over again a thousand times!

My first pageant taught me so much. I met so many new and lifelong friends and my passion and desire to compete in pageants just grew and developed from the first second I arrived!

What made you decide to compete in your current system?

What makes Pageant Girl special to me is that it was the first ever pageant I had competed in. It’s where I started my journey and the reason I fell in love with pageants, as well as the values it holds, ‘beautifully inspiring’, which really sums up every Queen and Finalist to ever compete in this empowering system. I adore the sisterhood and family atmosphere you experience from the moment you enter the system as a Finalist and how the bond just

grows and develops over time! There are so many different people supporting you out there whether they know you or not, it is one of the most amazing things about pageantry and this system.

What is the best thing that pageants have taught you?

Pageants have taught me it’s okay to be me! It’s okay to love my flaws, because that’s what makes me, me! It’s

taught me to see the beauty in everything and to always push myself to be the best person I can be! I’m so lucky to be surrounded by such amazing women, who have taught me so much and continue to help me grow and develop my knowledge. I still have lots to learn, but I couldn’t be more thankful for what I’ve learnt already. They are things I’m going to take with me for the rest of my life! .

What is your pageant platform and why?

My pageant platform is raising awareness for adolescent ADHD. I want to bring awareness to this disorder as I suffer from it myself. ADHD is stereotyped on a daily basis and I want to use my platform and following to be able to help educate people about ADHD and help break these stereotypes and stigma around it.

What is your dream title?

Ultimately my dream title is Miss Teen Pageant Girl UK. It is something I am willing to work 110% for and hopefully one day achieve that goal!

If you were to win what would it mean to you?

For me to win Miss Teen Pageant Girl UK would mean the world to me. It would show me that I am good enough and I shouldn’t have to put up a front or pretend to be someone I’m not. It would also mean that I can carry on promoting my platform and fundraising for some charities which are close to my heart.

What is the best advice you have for fellow pageant queens/ finalists?

I would say, throw yourself into the whole experience wholeheartedly. Have as much fun as you can and think of

taking home the crown as a bonus! If you start to take yourself too seriously, you can sometimes get stuck in your own head and that’s what stops you from reaching your goals! In conclusion, be yourself, have fun, don’t take anything too seriously. Enjoy every minute .

What have you been doing in the run up to your pageant final?

On the run up to the finals, which will hopefully go ahead in July, I have been trying my

best to keep presence on social media and do as many things as I can with my sash! I have also been preparing what I’m going to wear for each round, practicing walking in my heels and have been having some coaching sessions with the beautiful Harriotte Lane!

What is your favourite ever appearance?

Unfortunately due to Covid-19, I have been unable to participate in any appearances yet!

I do, however, have lots of exciting ideas for when I am able to start doing appearances

again! In lockdown I have been participating in online pageants and supporting many different charities across the country! I have also started a few of my own campaigns/

challenges, which I hope to get many more people involved with as my pageant journey goes on.

How has lockdown affected your pageant journey?

Lockdown has massively affected my pageant journey! Lots of events and appearances I

had planned to do were unfortunately cancelled, meaning I have had to find other ways to help out and try do things whilst sticking to lockdown rules. I have had to do many things

independently, such as keep my social media presence up and work on making myself more

prepared for when we are able to go back to pageants! There’s been a lot of walking in heels down the hall was and getting family to test me on interview questions!

What makes a good pageant role model?

A good pageant role model is someone who is a friend to everybody and someone who many can look up to as a friend, or sister like figure. A good pageant role model should be

motivated and hard-working and willing to put 100% into everything they do - big or small.

What your favourite pageant round?

My favourite pageant round is, by far, Fashion Wear or, in Miss Teen Pageant Girl UK’s case, the Bea-YOU-tiful round! This is a round where we go on stage in a pageant girl t-

shirt (that is given to us) and our favourite pair of jeans! I love this round, as you are able be comfy and still feel absolutely amazing! It also gets you hyped up ready for the other rounds!

How do you deal with pageant nerves?

To deal with my pageant nerves, I like to chat to all the girls about how I’m feeling and any worries or concerns I have, so we can discuss them together and help one another! I also try writing them down if I’m feeling anxious, to let it all out!

Interview with Marcie Reid: Miss

Intercontinental UK 2021 Finalist

I first entered pageants after discovering them through a friend who competed. It took me a couple of years to convince myself that I was worthy of competing and now I’m fully immersed within pageant land. My only regret is not entering sooner! My main aim, when I entered my first pageant, was to create friendships with like-minded, strong young women, which I definitely achieved, and they are girls I now consider as best friends, dotted all over the UK!

My first ever pageant was Miss Galaxy UK 2020, where I was lucky enough to place top 12! It’s crazy, as I had never even seen or attended a real pageant in my life before stepping on the Galaxy stage. I was so sure I wasn’t going to place! I went straight to the back when we returned to the stage for the results, but then my name was called, and I had to climb across three rows of gorgeous girls and their beautiful dresses! Competing in the Miss Galaxy system really helped me develop as a person and realise where my true passions lie in life. I don’t even recognise the girl I was pre-pageantry, and I am so proud of that.

What’s your dream title?

Miss Intercontinental England 2021, or Miss Intercontinental Wales 2021

What made you decide to compete in your current system?

Miss Intercontinental UK really resonated with me for various reasons. It was the first pageant I looked into way back in 2017 when it was part of the UKPP, and I’ve followed its progress ever since, with the Miss Intercontinental title being a big dream of mine. The Miss Intercontinental UK system also supports Women’s Aid, a charity that provides assistance for domestic abuse victims in the UK, which is a cause extremely close to my heart and something I advocate for. My director Lilly is an absolute dream, and I am so proud to represent her and her system as a Grand Finalist.

What’s the best thing that pageants have taught you?

That being different is worthy of celebration. In a world where it is easier to fit in, it is so difficult to be an individual and embrace your differences. Pageantry has taught me that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes and a beautiful heart is what is most important – cliché I know! You don’t need be a supermodel’s height, with a matching dress size - you have to be yourself. You need to love yourself and be confident in what you can bring to the table. Pageants are one of the best ways to build self-confidence and develop as a person.

What’s your pageant platform and why?

My platform is to provide support and help for children from domestic abuse backgrounds. I’m currently working on a charity idea that will hopefully, in turn, provide meaningful help for those children. I currently fundraise a lot for charities that work with these children, as well as collecting donations etc. My platform is so important to me, as I used to be one of those children and I cannot stand the fact that people are still experiencing the same awful things that I had to, so I will always continue to work to eradicate the issue, as no child deserves such a life.

If you were to win what would it mean to you? (Or, what was it like when you won?)

The absolute world! Winning my dream title and joining the Miss Intercontinental sisterhood would be a massive goal of mine achieved. Representing my country would be one of my proudest moments in life, and I would hope that I would make Lilly and my sister finalists proud! I actually have my entire year planned out if I were lucky enough to win, although I won’t give away any secrets just yet.

What’s the best advice you have for fellow pageant queens?

Get involved in absolutely everything. Try to attend as many of your sister Finalists’ events and charity appearances – really get stuck in. Pageantry breeds strong, resilient, amazing women and I can guarantee you will leave each and every pageant appearance with amazing memories and at least one new friend. Memories, self-development, good deeds and friendships are what pageants are about. The crown and title are just a bonus! Say yes as much as possible - you won’t regret it!

What have you been doing in the run up to your pageant final?

I’ve been using the extra time to really make the most of my run up to the final. I’ve spent time prepping for stage, I’ve been training with Rachael from the Pageant Coaching Academy and clocking up appearances! So far, in the lead up to Miss Intercontinental UK 2021, I have organised a fundraiser climbing Ben Nevis, collected donations for my local children centre, participated in various interviews and podcasts, as well as raised over £2000 for charity! I've also managed to launch the Pageant Prep Programme, a fitness programme designed specifically for stepping on stage! I have so much more planned before I take to the stage, so watch this space.

Favourite ever appearance?

It has to be Ben Nevis! I managed to organise a group of 12 from all corners of the UK to climb Ben Nevis to fundraise for Women’s Aid. It took us 9 hours, filled with lots of laughter and some tears and we collectively raised over £2300, which was mindblowing! So, although the climb itself was arduous, the cause was more than worth it, and I honestly don’t think I’ve ever been so proud of anyone in my life! Everyone that participated went above and beyond with their efforts and I will be eternally grateful for the hard work the team put in.

How has the lockdown due to Covid19 affected your pageant journey?

I originally had a ‘Pageant Plan’ in my head that spanned the next couple of years, however Covid-19 put a spanner in the works.

I’m approaching aging out of the Miss category in most pageants and I really didn’t want to lose my opportunity to compete as a Miss – I still have one more chance! Covid-19 definitely affected my plan and pageant journey, however, I am big believer in everything happens for a reason, so we’ll see what the future holds.

Has your reign been extended due to COVID19?

Yes! I was originally due to step on stage in September 2020, but obviously Covid-19 put a stop to that! We don’t currently have a date set for the Miss Intercontinental UK 2021 pageant, but I do know that I get to represent Hertfordshire in the 2021 finals and have therefore been blessed with so much more time in the lead up – I plan to make the most of it!

What makes a good pageant role model?

Someone who conducts themselves in such a way that inspires others. A good role model is consistent, friendly, yet professional and passionate about what they do. If someone inspires you to do or be better, then they’re a successful role model. Luckily in pageantry there is no shortage of role models, as most women that enter are already of some calibre.

What’s your favourite pageant round?

It has to be the Evening Round! As a body builder, I am no stranger to strutting my stuff on stage in just a bikini, so it’s really nice to feel so elegant and sophisticated in a ball gown. The Evening Round is truly a princess moment and, let’s face it, we all deserve one! The different cuts and colours are all so beautiful to see - you can’t help but fall in love with everyone’s gown!

How do you deal with pageant nerves? (If applicable) I have a few tips and tricks that I find really work for me. Firstly, get yourself some amazing friends to hype you up, whether they’re also competing or just spectating. It really helps to have your support team with you! Another trick I have is to take my glasses off, sounds silly I know, but hear me out! I’m so busy trying to concentrate on not walking straight off the stage, that I forget that all of the audience and judges are staring at me! Lastly, just have fun, which is much easier said than done, but no less true! When you’re so busy laughing and making new friends, 10 seconds of strutting your stuff on stage is such a small part of your day!

Hey!! I’m Soraya and I am your UK’s National Ms Cambridge

I’m originally from Spain (and my dad is from Colombia) but have been living in UK for the last seven

years 😊. I lived in five different countries total, Hong Kong being my favourite so far. I work managing a

team of 55 people across six countries at a medical translation company and I also work as a makeup artist on the weekends for bodybuilding shows. What made you enter pageants?

My mum used to do pageants and always wanted to give me a shot to see if I liked it also.

What made you decide to compete in your current system?

I was the Crown and Glory charity queen in 2019. I’ve also won various charity pageants over the last couple of years, which has given me the confidence and practice to take things further.

What made you decide to compete in your current system?

It looked a great supportive system for the little ones and after following the previous queen’s journey, it seemed perfect. It’s brought Sophia’s confidence out more so and also gave her more opportunities too.

What the best thing that pageants have taught you?

Pageants have taught me that it’s okay not to always win, as the charities get money. I make friends and I get to dress up in big dresses.

What do your school friends and teachers think of you competing in pageants?

A lot of the teachers where a bit wary at first, as they had the stereotype of a pushy parent and child made to go on stage. When they were informed and educated about the pageants and the glitz, where a lot of the misunderstanding comes from, then they have been supportive and even putting up my awards in school. My friends love my crowns.

What’s your pageant platform and why?

My pageant platform is the National Autistic Society. This charity has helped my mum’s cousin personally and even reading about the work and support they offer during lockdown; it really is something to be commended.

What’s your dream title now and I’m the future?

I’m going to stay in Galaxy for now and see how far I can take things, as have made some dear friends.

What made you get into pageantry?

For me, pageants were something I had always dreamed off. When I was a little girl I would rewatch Miss Congeniality so many times, but I didn’t know if there was anything like that here in the UK. In 2010, I entered my very first pageant - a heat for Miss England where I placed first runner up for Miss Wiltshire - I was hooked! I entered to rebuild my confidence after an abusive relationship, so finding pageants at that time really helped me grow into the sassy, confident women that I am now. I’ve been very lucky to represent my town, county and country at different levels of pageantry, so I am very blessed to have been in this industry for eleven years!

Can you tell us about your pageant journey so far?

Being in pageantry for as long as I have, it’s been an incredible journey, surrounded by some incredible people! I’ve competed in pageants such as Miss Galaxy, Miss England, Miss Earth, Europe’s Perfect as well as, of course, my forever system - Young European International. I’ve competed as a slim figure and as a plus size Queen, experiencing the highs and lows of pageantry, but of course it’s a ride I don’t want to leave! I’ve been lucky to travel to Texas twice to compete, winning the international title of Young Miss International Spokesmodel, which was the highest placing contestant out of the whole pageant, as well as being the first girl from the UK to win! I have even competed in Disneyland Paris twice, as part of the Face of the Globe pageant finals, which no longer run, but I’ve made some friends for life - all over the globe! With pageants, I’ve been able to fundraise for so many charities, become ambassadors and patrons, got to be on the judging panels, alongside being a big support as a pageant coach for Sparkles and Rhinestones. I even wrote the very first UK Pageant Manual, which was a manual and is now a Handbook!

What made you chose the system you are currently competing in now?

After handing my title over virtually, as America still held the international finals, I was awarded the YMI Lifetime Queen Crown. This meant I could still compete in other systems, but whenever I wasn’t in the pageant game, as such, I was forever a Queen!

There are still a few systems I want to check off my list and, as a pageant coach, I want to be able to gain more knowledge and experience and practice what I preach! When Pageant Girl UK announced the UK’s National Miss Pageant, I just knew I wanted to be a part of history. Being a Pageant Girl UK girl would be a dream come true, and on the original date of the finals, it would have been ten years since I sat in that interview chair being interviewed for Miss Galaxy England - ten years since my first Pageant Girl UK finals! Being the very first UKs National Ms would be an incredible achievement and I would love to show others that a curvy, single mum with tattoos and a heart of gold could snatch that Crown, even if she’s pushing past 30!

How has the transition been, going from Queen to Finalist?

Of course, there are so many emotions when you put yourself back out there to compete!

Even though, technically, the last time I competed was 2019, because I went to Internationals, I have been a Queen since 2017, so it was a big step. I haven’t changed my approach though and still treat my sash as if I have a Crown with it, achieving lots of amazing things like PageantCon and my podcast of Queen Chats! I am nervous, but excited to step back on stage in a different system and hopefully make a lot of people proud!

What is your pageant platform?

I have had my pageant platform for many years now and my platform is all about mental health. Mental health is such a common problem within today’s world, and especially with COVID and social distancing! One in four adults will get depression at any given point in the year, which means that we need to normalise talking about it more, especially with men, as suicide is the biggest killer for men under the age of 45.

With my platform, I share my experience. I have created several campaigns, but one thing I am very proud of is my podcast called Queen Chat’s, in which I interview different pageant girls about their mental health experiences to show the different side to pageantry, behind all the glitter and glam. We talk about taboo subjects - we normalise therapy and taking medication. In November, I shared 16 different stories of pageant Queens and the effects of domestic violence on their mental health as part of the UN 16 Days against Gender Based Violence awareness campaign. I have fundraised £844 in the lockdown period for MIND and if I were to win UK’s National Ms, this would be the charity I would keep on supporting throughout my year.

as I got further into pageantry, I was asked to coach, but it wasn’t until 2019 that I offered coaching to everyone,

rather than just my local girls. ‘Sparkles’ started sharing lots of advice - we did inspiring interviews - and it grew to confidence training days within pageantry. From there, we wrote a UK’s first pageant manual. This was a 90-page guide to UK Pageants, explaining everything. We sold over 125 copies, but stopped selling when we released our new book, ‘The Ultimate Pageant Handbook’, which is a whopping 372-page book, really going into every subject you can think of within pageantry. There is nothing else out there in the UK like this book and that makes me very proud! We have the handbook, we offer coaching and have had great success with National and European titles but, for me, it’s knowing that our advice and our products are really helping pageant land that delights me!

What is your dream title?

For me, I have already won my dream title. I always said that I wanted to win an International Crown and be crowned in America and, in 2019, that dream came true. To have the honour of being an International Queen was crazy! I took that crown everywhere and it’s broken because of it! But I am so proud because, for that international (I won my European title five months pregnant!!), I flew to Texas eight weeks after the C- Section. For the 2019 finals, I was still breastfeeding, getting used to a toddler on a different sleeping pattern whilst competing in a high-pressure International final and I still pulled it off! Of course, I now have my sights set elsewhere but every pageant journey now is a new dream for me and that is exciting!

If you were to win, what would it mean to you?

I feel if I were to win UK’s National Ms, it would prove to a lot of people that I still have it, that I am not a ‘HasQueen’ as they say, but also prove it to myself. To know that I finally achieved that goal of winning a Pageant Girl UK system and the timing being right. I know now, looking back on my journey, that I wouldn’t have been able to give the Crown as much justice as the winners did, whereas now, I know I have what it takes and MORE! I want to achieve so much as the very first winner. I want to make PageantCon a real-life event rather than virtual. I want to keep on being a Project Code Red Ambassador and collect an even bigger donation drive (for the 6th year) for homeless females, as well as advocating for body positivity and better mental health. It would mean so much but, also, Penelope is older and understanding more, so I just know it would be a very special moment of her seeing her mum being crowned and really understanding it, rather than crying because I’m not with her!

What have you been doing in the lead up?

Of course, entering UK’s National Ms in a pandemic never really helped, but you have to learn to adapt and overcome!

Throughout having this sash, I’ve still been very busy, even though I’ve only left the house a couple of times! I have judged lots of charity pageants and even judged a virtual heat of Natural Beauty. I’ve joined and donated to various awareness campaigns that my pageant sisters have created, as well as creating my own with the 16 Days Project. We did our fifth homeless drive, where we collected sanitary items for homeless women. I created the challenge #coderedchallenge in 2018, which is where you buy as many items as you can for a fiver, but one must be a women’s sanitary product and this challenge was brought back as it’s something you can do on your weekly shop! I’ve done fitness challenges with the 3000 squats for Refuge in November, raising £45, and also doing a 40k bike ride for Solace, another women’s refuge.

Having suffered domestic violence as a child and an adult, I always make sure I can give back, hence the awareness interviews, the challenges and also donating over 150 books at present to a shelter. Lastly, I got to hold PageantCon, the UK’s first virtual pageant event, where experts came to discuss all different subjects of UK pageantry! We raised £400 for MIND UK, and it’s back again this year with three days of pageant amazingness!!

What is the best pageant advice you could give to someone else?

Giving advice is the whole reason Sparkles and Rhinestones is here today and I say so many times that the best advice is to prepare, plan, practice and do your research! Whether it’s researching your system, coach, supplier, you need to make sure it’s right for you! The same with preparing for the pageant; make those lists, prepare everything so you know there are no nasty surprises, as well as practice! I practice my interview skills whenever I can, by myself, with friends, when I’m coaching (showing the different answers, etc.) as well as doing the pageant pose everywhere I walk! It becomes second nature after a while!

What has been your all-time pageant favourite appearance?

It’s very hard to scale 11 years of pageantry down to just one moment, as I have so many highlights! Being called Ariel by the Disney staff as I was waiting to compete in Disneyland, releasing my own pageant handbook and having people actually read and enjoy it! Holding PageantCon and seeing all the amazing feedback of what people had learnt was amazing and I’m just wishing Covid-19 was over so we can hold a massive event for it! I think I have been very lucky to make some amazing appearances in my local community. I’m still on the front of one the gyms here in Swindon, holding a blackberry phone - that’s how old it is! I’ve managed to hold the FA Cup, be on Sky Sports, talk to National press… overall, it’s just been incredible!

How has lockdown affected your pageant journey?

I feel, before Covid-19 hit, there was a lot of stuff I did that didn’t require me to leave the house. I conduct a lot of Sparkles and Rhinestones interviews at home and it’s the same with the Queen Chat videos, which I later turned into a podcast show from home. I overcame a lot of different things to still be able to fundraise and make appearances, like my different collections. Of course, I cannot wait to get back out there and attend people’s events!

I’ve had to postpone my Big Pageant Confidence event twice now because of the quick change in rules, but I am confident that we will be holding it in 2021!

What do you feel makes a good pageant role model?

I believe, in order to be a good role model, you should be passionate about your causes and your platform. There is no point having a platform that doesn’t spark that passion and make you want to talk and share about it and, when you wear that sash and crown, that’s what you want to be doing! A role model is friendly, approachable and relatable. You need to be able to empathise with others and I feel a lot of UK Pageant Queens already do this, which is why there is such a strong bond of sisterhood with sisters from all different systems. I have a saying I tell my clients a lot: that you should already be acting like a queen, thinking like a queen and dressing like a queen so when you do win that crown and sash - nothing changes but the upgraded sash. If you’ve worked hard to get it, work hard to show it off and that is what will inspire others!

Being a pageant mum, and competing before and after having a child, which do you think is easier?

Of course, being a pageant mum means you have to think about your appearances; if you have childcare that day, if the event is child-friendly, but it doesn’t stop you being the best Queen you can be. It’s no secret that in my YEMI Ms year, the reason I won the title of Queen of Queen’s was because I was so active! I made my last appearance a week before I gave birth and made my first appearance back 10 days after having Penelope. You have to pack in a lot more, but you can still achieve amazing things! It just makes you more passionate for the things you can do! Of course, there are always questions, like are some pageants outdated because they don’t accept mothers and, for me, yes, they are outdated. Once you become a mother, you are literally a new superhero. I do all

of the Sparkles and Rhinestones work, my pageant journey, coach others, am the social media manager for YEMI/ YMI and YAMI, as well as write a book, attend appearances and I’m still an amazing mum. I think the choice should be there for mums, but I do understand what the pressure of a National or International title could do to a family, especially if there is a lot of travelling involved. Pageantry is constantly adapting and providing more diverse systems - we now have a choice! So, competing after having a child is a lot harder, but so much more rewarding!

Finally, what is your favourite pageant round?

My favourite round would be off stage and in that interview room! I love the interview as it gives you that chance to let the judges know what you are about, what you have been doing and how much you want this title! It’s only three minutes but you have to make sure they fall in love with you by the time that knock on the door happens! Of course, I do love the sassiness of fashion wear and the classiness of evening wear, but interview has my heart! It is also the most pressure on me as it’s meant to be my expertise so if I don’t do well, the fear is real!

Interview with Ms Great Britain Finalist 2021: Elena Ramona

What made you enter pageants in the first place?

Growing up, I didn’t have a role model to look up to. Magazines were paved with tall, slim women and I felt a lot of pressure to look a certain way. My biggest fear was if I didn’t look like them, I wouldn’t be

happy - I would like to be that person I needed growing up and most importantly showcase that anybody, any shape or size, should feel worthy enough to join a pageant.

Have you competed before? If so, can you tell us about your journey?

In 2020 I competed in the first ever Ms Great Britain as a Finalist and what a journey it was. I felt liberated and so grateful that I was given the opportunity to compete and meet some amazing women.

The finals took place in Leicester over two nights, with a 75th Anniversary party on the first night. As it was my first pageant I had absolutely no idea what to expect. I do not regret entering and competing, it was so much fun, and I didn't want it to end.

What made you decide to compete in your current system?

I had heard really good things about Miss Great Britain from press and friends so decided to give it a go.

I was so excited when I found out I had made the finals.

What the best thing that pageants have taught you?

To not worry about what I look like, everyone is different. Everyone has unique qualities which should be celebrated.

What’s your dream title?

Ms Great Britain and Ms World.

If you were to win what would it mean to you?

It would mean the world! I know sounds corny, but it’s true. Currently I am a mental

health advocate and mentor and I would be able to reach out to so many more people and help them. I have a diagnosis of BPD/EUPD and to win such a title would also be a

way of breaking the stigma and showing the world that someone with a complex mental

What’s the best advice you have for fellow pageant queens/finalists?

Be yourself and stay true to you.

What have you been doing in the run up to your pageant final?

I have been working on my self-esteem and confidence through courses online. Last year I was not honest to myself or the judges for fear of not being good enough as it was my first pageant. This year I will give them nothing but me.

What is your favourite ever appearance?

BBC Radio 5 Live.

How has the lockdown due to Covid-19 affected your pageant journey?

I have not been able to run as many charity events as I would have wanted, because of the restrictions. However, I have been able to reset and re-evaluate what I want and recharge.

What makes a good pageant role model?

Someone who is authentic, wholesome and relatable. Someone that is doing it for a reason other than themselves.

What’s your favourite pageant round?

Evening Wear hands down!!

How do you deal with pageant nerves?

I remind myself that, whatever the outcome, I am going to enjoy the evening and the experience.

Interview with Miss Voluptuous UK Ambassador 2021 - Emma-Jayne Relf I first entered pageants after I took part in a plus size photoshoot about 5 years ago. At the shoot were

approximately a dozen ladies with sashes on. I had no idea what a pageant really was and I definitely didn’t think someone of my size and age could take part. Those ladies were, and still are, incredible! I

entered my first pageant that week and the rest is history. I’ve been a finalist of Miss Voluptuous UK since the very first year of the pageant and every year since. I was also Ms Norfolk Curve in 2017. I was unplaced until 2019 when I achieved 2nd Runner Up, as well as the Style Icon award. I decided to

compete in Miss Voluptuous because I was attracted to the fact we had to have a platform to compete and not just to look pretty in dresses and bling. I believe having a platform makes you work that bit harder

for something that you believe in. Pageants, and the Miss Voluptuous system in particular, has taught

me to actually like myself again. I slowly learned how to be confident. I also learned how much I’m worth and that is the most important thing.

My platform is animal welfare and, in particular, protecting our pets. I feel like I need to be the voice for animals, as they can’t use theirs to be understood. One of the really positive outcomes of having this

platform is that I became a Blue Cross volunteer. Last year I also became an Educational Speaker for

them to go into schools and youth groups to talk about looking after pets. I definitely believe that, if the information is given at a young age, it could stop animal abuse, maltreatment and neglect at a later stage.

There is only one title that would be my dream to win - the Miss Voluptuous International title. In fact, it still seems like a dream that I am actually going to compete at the international final in Nashville!

I was awarded my title on New Year’s Eve, as it was made public on social media. Obviously, there was

no ‘normal' final last year, so I was so very shocked to be awarded this title anyway. Me? A Queen? That was something to get my head around and it still hasn’t registered fully. I had prepared for the original date of the final, which was in October. I had some interview training and then I stepped out of my

comfort zone and had some on stage training too. I had been keeping an appearance book since I applied.

I was lucky enough to be able to get in some physical appearances before there were numerous restrictions placed upon us. My advice for fellow Queens and Finalists is this; remember who you are and what you are here for. You are a representative of your system. Oh, and also enjoy yourself and smile a lot, I find that really helps!

During my reign I will be running a new campaign to raise funds for WWF, writing a pet care book for children to raise funds for Blue Cross and also carry on delivering the pet care message to young people

The International final of Miss Voluptuous Pageants is being held in Nashville, Tennessee on the 24th to 29th October 2021. I have already been planning my National Wear outfit. This will be the first one I’ve done, and I keep changing my mind about the theme! I have booked in for more training and I will be

prepared for the stage, the interview and also the fun times too. I will also be taking better care of my skin and drinking more water in the run up to the final.

My favourite ever appearance was going to the Miss World 2019 final that was held in London. It was such a wonderful and uplifting experience that I feel very lucky to have had. I met up with other pageant ladies before and after, we were all so excited to be there. A good pageant role model is someone who

inspires people to improve, is approachable in times of need and is supportive of her fellow Queens and Finalists.

My favourite pageant round, by far, is the Evening Wear round. It’s a chance to wear a fabulous gown that you wouldn’t normally wear and feel like the Queen you are! Pageant nerves are always quite bad

for me, usually before the interview round. I tend to talk a lot and joke to burn off the nervous energy. It’s not the plan but that’s what usually happens! I have nerves just before I go on stage too, but once I’m out there it all fades away.

Interview with Ms Great Britain Finalist: Shamima Khatun

What made you enter pageants in the first place?

I always wanted to enter a pageant contest, yet I never seemed to find the right time, nor was I confident

in applying during my early 20s. However, life experiences inspire you in many ways and I thought now it is the right time to enter such a contest and have the opportunity to participate with other fellow Finalists.

What made you decide to compete in your current system?

I think, for me, it’s all about being happy with where I am now in my life. Currently, I’m studying to

become a midwife, I’m a children’s author and I’m also a model, which gives me great confidence, as well as

feeling comfortable in my own skin during photo shoots. I’m a single mum to a wonderful little boy and my son inspires me in every way. He really has helped me through some tough times in my life and has given me the courage to do what I am doing now. Being in Ms Great Britain as a Finalist will enable me to do

something great and hopefully help others in need, via charity, having the opportunity to meet other people in the contest, encouraging all women from all walks of life and empowering each other too. To be in a

contest like this is not only about beauty, but it’s about being a passionate person in all you do, supporting others, accepting and being happy about who you are and being proud of the person you have become. All women come in all different shapes, colours and sizes which makes contests like this even more wonderful,

and an opportunity for all to show others what they have and what they can do. I am happy to be a part of that.

What’s the best thing that pageants have taught you?

I had the opportunity to speak to some lovely women, who have previously competed in pageants. The

advice given was to just be yourself, enjoy the moment when you’re on stage and have just fun! ‘There will be so many different women that you’ll meet, some who have competed many times. For others it will be their first time. You will learn a lot from each other, and you will make some forever friends.

What’s your pageant platform and why?

I have always been a charitable person and I do what I can to help when I can. If I’m able to make a

difference in even the slightest way, then that is all that matters to me. The charities I will be supporting this year are Cancer Research UK, who are the largest charity in the world and are dedicated to saving lives through their incredible research, Alex’s Wish, which is a Duchene Muscular Dystrophy charity,

and their mission is to eradicate this aggressive fatal muscle disease that affects 1 in every 3,500 boys who are born with it. Being a student midwife has also inspired me in many ways. SANDS is a charity for

those who have unfortunately lost their baby through miscarriage, stillbirth or through neonatal death.

This charity is personal to me and it has helped and reached out to so many women, partners and

families who have struggled through child loss. To help more towards charity, as a children’s author, I will also be providing my stories online on a platform called ‘EYFS Home’ which provides stories and daily

activities for families and schools to access. The money raised for this will also be going towards my chosen charities.

What’s your dream title?

That’s a tough one! Could I say Miss World?? In all honesty, winning Ms Great Britain would be amazing, however having the opportunity to be a part of the contest makes me happy enough.

If you were to win what would it mean to you?

I would be on Cloud Nine for a long time!!! Having the chance to represent Great Britain as a tourism ambassador would be even better!

What’s the best advice you have for fellow pageant Queens/Finalists?

Just be yourself, don’t be scared to blow your own horn. Talk about your life experiences and what you do, and just be confident in yourself. At the end of the day, we all learn different things about each other in a contest and it’s a great way of inspiring each other too.

What have you been doing in the run up to your pageant final?

I have been studying a lot for my midwifery degree, as well as training during my hospital placement.

I’m a busy mum to my little boy and I am also hoping to publish my second children’s book too. I have

been organising more modelling jobs and hopefully, when lockdown has been lifted, I’ll be able to do more

shoots! I am also organising some charity events, not only for Ms Great Britain but for a charity which is close to my heart and is personal to me.

What makes a good pageant role model?

Being a good role model can be many things. For me, it is someone who has the confidence, is

passionate, someone who can carry herself in all situations and who wants to thrive. A role model

focuses heavily on being a strong independent woman, which is something that many women and young girls need to see. As women, we should help and support each other and, no matter what

happens, the show must go on. Women get through the toughest times with composure, grace, and confidence.

What do you think will be your favourite pageant round?

I think my favourite pageant round will be the Evening Wear. I’ve have always wanted to glam up and this will be my opportunity to do just that and strut my stuff!

How are you planning on dealing with pageant nerves?

Because this will be my first pageant, I will be channelling my nerves into energy and I’m going

to make sure I have fun and give my all whilst on stage. Also, being nervous could be a good thing, as you’ll be more careful and I’m hoping that I don’t mess up!

Interview with Miss Mystic Beauty: Rebecca Kite

What made you enter pageants in the first place?

To be honest, it was five minutes of madness. I had never thought about pageants until one of my friends from school was talking part in Miss Brighton. They had a practice catwalk at a prom show and I went along to support her. As I was watching, I thought ‘that looks like fun’. Next thing I knew I was a Finalist!

Have you competed before? If so, can you tell us about your journey?

My previous titles include Miss Charity, Miss Brighton 2018 and Miss Sussex 2019. At the finals of

Miss Mystic Beauty, I also won the side award of Miss Publicity. In addition, I have competed in Miss Great Britain, Miss British Isles and Pure International.

What made you decide to compete in your current system?

I decided to compete in Miss Mystic Beauty because I loved how they inspire you to be who you are.

They support diversity and encourage women to be the best version of themselves. I love this ethos and I felt like I could be exactly who I wanted to be.

What the best thing that pageants have taught you?

The best thing pageants have taught me is to never hide who I am. Life is short and by trying to be

someone else it makes you feel awful. When I began doing pageants, I felt like I could be exactly who I wanted to be and it gave me that confidence that I needed.

What’s your pageant platform and why?

My platform is mental health. I think it’s something that still needs to be supported more. I myself have suffered in the past and I can’t thank the people that supported me enough. I had counselling and it

really helped me. I want to encourage people to feel more comfortable about asking for help and it is okay not to be okay.

What’s your dream title?

My dream title is what I have now. I love the system and being able to represent it as a Queen is the

best feeling! After I hand over, I will go into pageant ‘retirement’ as, for me, Miss Mystic is the best title, as it represents everything, I believe in.

What was it like when you won?

When I won Miss Mystic Beauty, it was the most

incredible feeling. The weekend had been very emotional, as at the time my beautiful grandmother was sadly in

the last few days of her life after battling cancer. I saw

her on the Friday and told her I would try my best and I would tell her all about it when I got back. When I

won, I felt like I did it for my Nan. I went back on the

Monday and, sadly, she had deteriorated. The first thing she said to me was “you won” and smiled. This was the

last thing she ever said to me and I will always treasure this. I did it for you nan, and I’m glad I managed to give you a final bit of happiness before you passed.

What have you been doing since you won?

Unfortunately, because of Covid, all my plans went on hold. I was lucky, however, to support a few local charities and attend some community events beforehand. I have continued to raise awareness of campaigns through social media, but I’m hoping everything will be back up and running before I hand over.

What is your favourite ever appearance?

My favourite appearance was the Give a Dog a Home Summer Show. I was invited along to be a judge at the

dog show, and what an amazing day I had. They are an incredible charity that rescue stray dogs. What could be

better than helping raise money for an amazing charity? I have supported them, since then, at a Christmas event and the following year for another show.

How has the lockdown due to Covid-19 affected your pageant journey? Has your reign been extended due to Covid-19?

I have had my reign extended, as I was crowned in October 2019, so I hadn’t had much time before the

pandemic began. I have, however, managed to take part in online campaigns. I am also doing a sponsored walk to raise money for a local hospice in honour of my Nan. What makes a good pageant role model?

To me, it’s helping others. I think a good role model helps and supports everyone and encourages people to be who they want to be, not what society says.

What’s your favourite pageant round?

My favourite round is Evening Wear. I love the idea of being able to wear a beautiful dress. The phrase I live by

is ‘you can never have too much sparkle in your life’ and that’s true. The Evening Wear round is the best for this.

How do you deal with pageant nerves?

To be honest, just be yourself. Who cares if you slip on stage - which yes, I have done! We are all human. The way I look at it is, go out there be who you are and don’t worry about what other people think.

messy4mind because Mind is my platform too. This means a lot to me, as I’ve been hospitalised a lot over the years with my mental health. I love the fact that raising awareness towards Mind makes me feel less ashamed.”

Miss West Lothian Great Britain: Rachel Victoria Adam My name is Rachel Victoria Adam, and I am from a small

town just outside of Edinburgh called Livingston, West Lothian.

I first got involved in pageants in 2016 when I was about to

graduate from my Criminological Studies degree at university, and was updating my CV. I thought my CV really lacked

anything which demonstrated me as a confident person (as I

wasn’t!), which I thought employers would look for. I’d noticed posts on social media for a local beauty pageant - Miss West

Lothian – and thought this would look perfect on my CV. Little did I know that I had what it took to win!

Since then, I would say I caught the pageant bug and loved the experience of competing. I then entered, and won, Miss Inked Beauty UK Pin Up Model in 2017, Miss Scotland Charity 2018, and Face of Scotland

2019. I am now Miss Great Britain West Lothian 2021 and will compete in the Miss Great Britain finals in September 2021.

Taking part in pageants has really helped me to grow as a person and has given me more confidence in

myself and who I am. They’ve helped me to develop social and working skills which I can apply to everyday

life and have taught me to love myself, as beauty radiates from within. Pageantry has really encouraged me to improve on myself every single day and really work to make a change in my life, my community, my

town, my country and the world. It may sound cliché, but I always say you might not change THE world, but you can change someone’s world.

I have met and stayed in touch with some amazing people throughout my reigns. I’ve always said that a

good Queen has no competition, only sisters, and the only person she must strive to be better than is who she was yesterday. A great Queen is forever humble in winning and gracious in defeat, as after all you’re competing against what has become your family.

I do believe that pageantry becomes a lifestyle, as so much work and commitment goes into the lead up to

your competition and throughout your reign. I don’t believe that pageants get the recognition they deserve,

as the girls who take part dedicate a lot of their time to raising money and awareness for so many charities across the world. Throughout my time as Miss West Lothian Great Britain 2021 and onwards, I am going to blog and vlog my way to the finals for the very first time! I want to show everyone outside pageants how much effort and commitment it takes to be a pageant girl and how much good us girls can achieve!

Prior to my reigns and while being a Title Holder, I have achieved so many personal charity

goals, which have truly changed my life. After winning Miss West Lothian in 2016, I completed an abseil for the charity SANDS. I thought that would be the scariest thing I would do, but I took things to a whole new level when I decided to do a skydive the following year in aid of

SANE. Although this was a little bit scary, it was one of the best experiences of my life and I

am so grateful I got to do this for such an amazing mental health charity. I’ve always been one for helping others, but I took this more seriously after being to Peru with the Vine Trust, in

2011, to help an orphanage of street boys build a school. I got to spend time with the boys that we were helping, and I not only feel accomplished in the building work we were doing but felt accomplished in that I had helped to make a difference in these boy’s lives - I came home a different person.

Since then, I have done some crazy things in the name of charity. I’ve slept outside on a cold

winters night to help raise money and awareness for Scotland’s homeless, which was a massive

eye opener for me. I also ran a half marathon for SANE, which was a total shock to my system.

I am such an adrenaline addict and always doing things for the buzz. I felt the buzz literally when I shaved off all my hair for Macmillan Cancer support in 2013. I raised a whopping

£4,000 and came in the top 2% of Just Giving fundraisers that year. I was also able to donate my hair to the Little Princess Trust, and hopefully help made a little princess smile.

My chosen platform is mental health, alongside Cancer awareness. Both of these are something I am extremely passionate about after losing my friend to suicide at a young age, and also my

family being impacted by Cancer. I hope to raise as much money and awareness as possible for mental health and Cancer charities and I absolutely love the platform and audience that

pageants give me to do this. Throughout my time as Miss Great Britain West Lothian 2021

and beyond – I will continue to make this my mission along with raising money and awareness for Miss Great Britain’s chosen charities – Cancer Research UK and Alex’s Wish.

I have kicked off this year with campaigns to raise awareness and funds for Cancer Research UK, such as #SmearForSmear, #Ovary-act, Walk all over Cancer and charity raffles. I have so many more plans and ideas to put into force to smash this year’s charity goals.

I am very honoured to have been recognised for my charity work and accomplishments, as I was presented an award for this in 2016 at ‘Pride of West Lothian Awards’. I have also received

awards for my Pageantry. After receiving the ‘Best Newcomer’ award at the Scottish Pageant Industry Awards in 2017, I was then nominated for five awards in 2020’s Scottish Pageant

Industry Awards: Most Improved, Pageant Fundraiser, Natural Beauty, Inspirational Queen and Queen of the Year. Unfortunately, the event had to be postponed due to Covid-19 restrictions, but I still feel so humbled to have even made it to the nominations.

I am so excited for what this year may bring. The modern-day Miss Great Britain competition has been

built upon an extensive history of successful pageants and has helped launch the careers of many women who entered through the years. Miss Great Britain has evolved in becoming one of ‘THE’ pageant systems to be

part of, so I am beyond honoured to have been selected as a finalist – I keep pinching myself! I am extremely

excited to compete in the Miss Great Britain 2021 finals in September and I hope to do my small town, West Lothian and Country – Scotland – so proud.

Junior Miss Royal Sapphire Alyssa, 11 What made you enter pageants in the first place?

I started carnival when I was six then my friend, Glesni, encouraged me to do pageant.

Can you tell us about your journey so far?

I won my first ever pageant, Little Miss Worldwide. Then I won Elite Little Miss Wales, followed by Little Miss Belle Wales and Junior Miss Royal Sapphire UK.

What made you decide to compete in your current system?

I decided to compete in this system because everyone in the system is so nice and friendly.

What the best thing that pageants have taught you?

Pageants have taught me that it doesn’t matter what you look like. You will still be accepted for who you are.

What’s your pageant platform and why?

I do and help anyone that needs help as much as I can. I am fundraising for The Sick Children’s Trust.

What’s your dream title?

My dream title is Miss Universe because I would love to see people from different countries.

If you were to win what would it mean to you?

It means the world to me and I am very happy.

What’s the best advice you have for fellow pageant queens/finalists?

If someone says something bad about you, it doesn’t matter because you are you and you are loved.

What have you been doing since you won?

I have been doing appearances like online pageants, fundraising, litter picks and spending time with my family.

What is your favourite ever appearance?

I don’t really have a favourite appearance; I enjoy every single one.

How has the lockdown due to Covid-19 affected your pageant journey?

It has affected it quite a lot, I miss seeing friends and doing catwalk on the stage.

Has your reign been extended due to Covid-19?

Yes, but we had online in the end.

What makes a good pageant role model?

I look at people as the same individual and it is good to be nice to everyone. My motto is be KIND. What’s your favourite pageant round?

The Fashion round is my favourite, as I can show who I am on the stage and it is fun.

How do you deal with pageant nerves?

I just think how I will do my walk and I think that my mother will be proud whether I win or lose and I have to practice a lot.

Interview with Miss Eco UK Finalist: Ellie Dalglish

Firstly, can you introduce yourself to our readers?

Hi Crowns and Sashes readers! I’d love to introduce myself! my name is Ellie Daglish; I am 18 and I currently have the amazing pleasure of being a Miss Eco UK Finalist for 2021.

What made you enter pageants in the first place?

I have always been a lover of pageants and what they offer. Their strong feminist values and passionate causes really drew me in. Eco Pageants UK will actually be my first pageant ever though… I am so excited!

Have you competed before? If so, can you tell us about your journey?

I was also a Miss England Wildcard entry for 2020/21, although I have never competed before.

What made you decide to compete in your current system?

For me, Miss Eco is more than a crown and title. It’s a mindset and a way of life whose ethos aligns with my own.

Eco Pageants UK this year are crowning both a Miss Eco UK and a Miss Environment UK which is such

amazing news and gives two girls a chance to represent the UK at Internationals. Deciding to do Miss Eco for me was an easy choice, I myself am very passionate about environmental causes and really strive to make a change in the world. Even having the title of finalist gives me a platform to speak for our Earth and make those changes which are needed. I hope by competing I can inspire others to care about the environment as well.

What’s the best thing that pageants have taught you?

So far, my pageant journey has taught me to really be myself, as that is when I shine the most and can really make a difference. I believe that a kind and genuine soul is the most important quality to have.

What’s your pageant platform and why?

My pageant platform is to encourage others to live a more sustainable life and to make eco-

conscious decisions. I really want to educate others on how easy and simple these changes can be.

What’s your dream title?

I would be extremely honoured and grateful to have the title of Miss Eco UK 2021.

If you were to win Miss Eco UK 2021 what would it mean to you?

If I was to win my title, it would really be a dream come true. I have so many ideas which I would love to do with the title and I’m loving working with charities and organisations who want to do the same thing. In my personal opinion I think winning this title would truly change my life for the better.

What’s the best advice you have for fellow pageant queens/finalists?

My best piece of advice is to always be confident in yourself and show kindness to others.

What have you been doing in the run up to your pageant final?

I am currently in full pageant prep mode; I have an amazing coach who is from The Pageant Coaching Academy. I’m also working on a campaign, which comes out in April, with an amazing

What is your favourite ever appearance?

My favourite ever appearance has been an Instagram live with a fellow Miss Eco sister, the

current Miss Eco Florida all the way across the pond! Our live is available to watch now on her YouTube and her Instagram account. I had the most fun speaking all things pageants and eco with her.

How has the lockdown due to Covid-19 affected your pageant journey?

I haven’t been able to visit my coach in person yet or see my eco sisters face to face. I am certain it will make it all the more exciting when I get to see them in person.

What makes a good pageant role model?

I believe a good pageant role model is someone who stands up for what they are passionate about, shows confidence on the stage, and kindness to everyone they meet. A good pageant role model is someone who uses their platform to fight social injustice.

What round are you most looking forward too?

I am so excited for the interview rounds, I really want the judges to get to know me, who I am and what I stand for.

Interview with Miss Supranational England – Sophie Dunning

I'm Sophie Marie Dunning, 28 years old and I am Miss Supranational England 2021.

I entered my first pageant, Miss England, when I was 24 with no indication of what was involved and made the Semi Finals at Kelham Hall, it was an incredible experience! I entered to show my niece that everyone is

beautiful. It is simply a matter of harnessing the courage to believe in yourself and grant yourself permission

to let your confidence grow. Beauty glows from within, the happier you are in yourself, the more others can see it too.

I have held the title of Miss Shropshire (Miss British Isles) and two International titles for Miss Tourism Queen UK 2017 and Miss Global Beauty Queen UK 2018. The Director of both was the lovely Hannah Batten who was so very supportive, even though we both faced disappointment when neither of these Internationals went ahead.

I walked the Miss Universe GB stage in 2019, which was an unforgettable experience. Although I still

wholeheartedly believe in the message I communicated with my niece, my purpose and ambition was accelerated by my passion for teaching women self-defence.

I am a women's self-defence instructor and the creator of Female and Fearless Projects, which is a number of seminars and campaigns to assist women (and men) in protecting themselves physically, emotionally and financially.

One of my ongoing projects is called The Red Flag Campaign, which is something very close to my heart. It is a collection of unhealthy behaviours that can be identified in the early stages of a relationship.

DAPP is something that I have been working on for the past 23 months. It is a domestic abuse protection programme which centres on equipping women with the tools they need to unlock their inner confidence and teaches them how to react to an array of physical assaults, ensuring they have the very best chance of escaping and surviving.

I entered the International Qualifier for Miss Supranational for the chance to be a part of an incredible

organisation that not only aligns with my personal values but would unite my goal of communicating with and teaching real, useful, self-protection to women all around the world. "Aspire to Inspire" is the Miss

Supranational ethos, how beautifully pure is that? I think it is truly fantastic! I don't aspire to be a role model alone, I aspire to encourage and grow a force of strong, female role models around the world.

The Supra Star Search competition was incredibly difficult, especially in full UK Lockdown. I stood alongside inspiring women from so many different countries which was an invaluable experience in itself. Throughout

the competition, the judge’s points contributed to 40% of the score and the public vote made up the other 60%.

It is so exciting to be competing in Miss Supranational this year! There are lots of things to prepare, such as a catwalk routine and rehearsal and styling, and my fitness regime is undergoing some small adjustments.

A huge part of my preparation is my new "From the Ground Up" initiative which is called Humanity.

(@humanityfromthegroundup on Instagram) which is an inclusive platform for all women to freely voice issues, events and news in their communities. Uniting to influence change, together.

It is a very challenging time to plan for upcoming events, however, I always say the essence of a women is our

ability to adapt! Therefore, I'll be constantly adapting to the restrictions and attending in-person events and seminars when I can. In the meantime, I'm speaking with some wonderful women from all over the world on Zoom. Our chats will be posted to the @humanityfromthegroundup Instagram page soon!

Pageants have taught me to never accept limitations, if you put the work in and BELIEVE in yourself, you will achieve.

My dream title is Miss Supranational, I am wholeheartedly committed to the Miss Supranational organisation and my ambition to take real, useful self-protection to women everywhere.

Winning the prestigious title of Miss Supranational means a responsibility and a duty to use my passion,

determination and skill set to have a positive influence on the world. I made a decision when I entered Supra

Star Search to make the very most of every single moment and to seize every opportunity to convey my message.

This mindset helped me to become Miss Supranational England for sure and I'm carrying this same fire to the Miss Supranational final too!

The best advice I have ever received was from my Mum - always remember that we can't control the behaviour of others, but we can control our own. This mantra has helped me through so many situations in life and helped me to focus on myself and my own personal development. Like all things in life, with pageantry comes positive and

negative 'reviews', but reminding yourself that you can't control anyone else, only how you respond, will help you to focus on the endless positives of your journey.

I have many favourite appearances, but I'd say my favourite has been a fundraiser I held at a local soft play.

It was so much fun to interact with the children and goof around and we raised a great amount for charity too, so it was a truly memorable day!

I think there are many facets to what makes a good role model; actively being a positive influence on the lives of others is a quality that every role model embodies. When your intentions are pure it shows and being authentically yourself can inspire others to accept themselves too.
