Lisa Newlin and her children, Alyssa (16), Devin (12) and Logan (8), have many dreams…right now, the simple ones are the most important to them. Dreams like having family time on Friday nights in their living room playing a board game or watching a movie and snacking on popcorn. Preparing meals in their own kitchen and enjoying dinner together as a family. Celebrating holidays and birthdays with family members and hanging pictures on the walls to show off each child’s accomplishments. Teaching her children the responsibility of caring for a home and working together as a family. Most importantly, they all dream of the stability that a home can provide. The last five years have been difficult for everyone. After going thru a divorce and leaving their home, Lisa and her children lived in an apartment they could afford until their rent was raised beyond their means. Lisa was unable to locate an affordable rental within 50 miles of Charlotte County. On the verge of homelessness, they now share two furnished rooms thanks to the kindness of her best friend’s mother. Even though Lisa is currently able to save some money, she realizes the likelihood of securing a conventional home loan is not in her future. She is so grateful to be accepted into the Habitat homeownership program.
Lisa and her family have been selected to be our 2019 Women Build future homeowner. The Build begins in March and should be completed in early to mid-May. Both men and women are encouraged to participate in this Build by volunteering or contributing to the building fund to support this endeavor. To sign up for the build, click here or contact Jill at 941-639-3162. Thank you for your continued support. Together we can continue making a positive difference in the lives of Charlotte County families in need of a safe, decent affordable home.
God Bless You,
