Hello Cresswind!

I can’t believe I am sitting down to write for the final issue for 2020 and after reviewing the last several months here, how far we have come since I walked in the doors of a closed clubhouse with a mask on. As we have progressed in our cautious openings, it is so nice to see the activities resuming. Yes, they are different from before and may always be; yet to see the clubhouse and grounds come back to life is like a breath of fresh air and a little less lonely.

The Pavilion was truly instrumental in being able to resume concerts, outdoor movie nights and for me, to be able to continue to introduce myself and get to know as many of you that I can. I enjoy circulating through the pool, fireplace & grill, veranda and definitely the socially distancing groups near their golf carts. So many personalities! I also greatly appreciate the words of support and the welcome feeling I have from so many of you.

Over the past few months, I have also become more aware of the philanthropic nature of the Cresswind community. I have seen fundraisers for various causes. These include Donations to Royal Animal Refuge, the Walk to end Alzheimer’s, fundraising golf tournaments and our substantial team volunteering for Toys for Tots. I am putting together a resource guide for residents interested in participating in these wonderful causes. Look for it near our club binders with the label “Cresswind Cares”.

Moving forward into 2021...well, who knows what it will bring us? I can only continue to keep the mental wheels turning for more fun and creative events. I see the growth here every day (right out my window) and envision Cresswind as a whole and what a great community it is becoming. I look forward to growing with you.

Cresswind® Peachtree City residents, Jeff and Karla White.

Following the Heart and Giving Back J

eff White grew up in Greenville, South Carolina and graduated from Clemson University in 1983 with a degree in design. After college he joined the Marines and became a naval aviator. Jeff retired from the Marine Corps after 24 years, and began flying Boeing 737s for Air Tran.

Jeff has three children and is married to Karla. When AirTran was bought by Southwest Airlines, they sold their home in Peachtree City in 2014, and traveled the U.S. in an RV. While in Peachtree City for Karla’s Real Estate business, they discovered Cresswind PTC when it was just beginning.

They bought, designed, and built their home in 2017 in Phase One. Jeff and Karla enjoyed playing Pickleball before they moved to Cresswind, and their love for the sport blossomed into their favorite activity in Cresswind PTC. Jeff said, “When we arrived, very few neighbors knew the game, but many were interested, and we wanted people to play with. So, we helped teach the newcomers, and started the first Pickleball Club.” Jeff added, “the friendships that have blossomed from Pickleball are the best part of living here.”

About 10 years ago Jeff followed his heart and was one of the organizers of the local program for “Toys for Tots”.

Today the “Southside Toys for Tots” has grown from 1,700 kids to over 5,200. Since the program is supported by both his church and the Marine League, Jeff has gotten reengaged and has assumed a leadership role once again.

Cresswind PTC has an amazing group of givers and many have jumped on the Toys for Tots Train with him.

The neighborhood also supported a short-term project he and Karla came up with during the pandemic, “Chow for Champs”. They collected money and bought food from local restaurants and had meals delivered to hospital workers and local first responders in PTC. Jeff was amazed by the response, and said, “the ‘hood’ was incredibly generous and left checks on our front porch for weeks.”

Jeff summed it up, “Bottom line, I had a wonderful childhood and parents, live a very blessed life, and I feel it my responsibility to give it back and pay it forward. There are so many incredible opportunities all around us to get involved – to help others who could use a hand up!”
