Welcome to 2025!

I hope everyone is enjoying the start of the new year! Do you have any New Year’s Intentions? I prefer to call them intentions rather than resolutions—what do you intend to do in the year ahead?

With the new year comes a slew of new events and activities in our neighborhood. We had some great shows to start off the new year, too! In February, we hosted a great show entitled Queenz That Rock, a tribute show to some of the greatest rockers of all time. It was an incredible night and a fantastic start to 2025!

Looking ahead, be sure to join us for a night of laughter with George Casey, the “King of Blarney,” on March 14th in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. While this will be his first visit to Cresswind at Twin Lakes, George is well known and loved in the 55+ community. We are thrilled to welcome him and expect a night full of humor and fun.

Indoor Concert Queenz That Rock!

Our first show of the year really brought the house down! In February, we were so excited to welcome Queenz That Rock! Queenz That Rock is a oneof-a-kind show that ignites the stage with a journey through rock’s golden ages. The show was created by Emily Yates – a well known performer who has visited Cresswind with her amazing talent in the past. But, even though Emily was not part of the trio that visited us this time, three powerhouse women with incredible voices still stunned the audience with their fabulous performance. The Queenz sang songs from Pat Benetar, Bon Jovi, Heart, and other rock legends.

One of the Queenz that visited us was Ruby Lewis, who has starred on Broadway, headlined in Las Vegas, and even performed live Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade twice. She has become known in the theater world for her soaring vocals and infectious charm. In addition to her impressive singing record, she has

appeared in the new Apple TV series “Sugar” as well. Along with Ruby was Rachel Dudt, whose background was just as extensive. Rachel has appeared in shows in over 75 countries (and counting!). She is a trained classical singer from Carnegie Melon University and starred in many Boradway shows, like Les Misérables and Monty Python’s Spamalot. The third Queen that we were so lucky to welcome to our community was Meghan Corbett. Meghan played Catherine of Aragon in a regional production of the very popular musical SIX and has worked closely with a Tony award nominee.

Cresswind at Twin Lakes was blown away by the performances of the three women who brought Queenz That Rock to our neighborhood. Not only were residents dancing in their seats and clapping along, but engaging with the singers to make it a truly unique experience for all in attendance. It was great to hear some of our favorite classic rock songs performed in such a refreshing way!

Concert goers dance the night away while the Queenz deliver a powerful performance.

Single & Social: Club Spotlight

CTLSingle

& Social was created specifically for those residents who are single or living as a single person in a residence. It provides a way for singles to participate in a variety of social activities with other single residents. This is NOT a dating group. There is no cost to join the club.

The club was designed to communicate and organize social activities for any singles that would like to enjoy group social gatherings and functions, or just get together in small groups to go out to eat, enjoy a movie together or even go on a short day trip.

Since our initial meeting in September of 2024 we have had several get togethers at the clubhouse. We usually include games such as Ping Pong, Corn Hole, Pool, and various

interactive games. There is no cost for any of our events at the clubhouse. We bring our own beverage and some snacks to share with the group.

We also coordinate putting together teams/groups for CTL activities such as teams for Trivia Night, a team that participated in the Halloween Family Feud game, and even a bowling team.

Through our Facebook group page we hope to facilitate various small group activities as interest arises. In the new year we are looking for members to coordinate certain activities such as exploring restaurants in the area, visiting wineries in north Georgia, getting groups together to golf, etc.

The CTL Single & Social Club had its holiday party in December. We played several interactive team games with a holiday theme.

We coordinated the Marine’s Toys For Tots campaign for CTL during the holidays by setting up a dropoff location at the Clubhouse and delivering the toys to the collection center in Gwinnett. You all filled up the boxes twice and we thank you for your generosity.

If you are single and interested in our group, please join our Facebook group page, CTL – Single & Social. You can also contact us at ctlsinglesocial@ gmail.com.

Health & Wellness Fair

As the new year began, many people set intentions to prioritize their health and well-being. To support this commitment, the Fitness & Wellness Committee partnered with local health care providers and wellness services to host a Health & Wellness Fair in January. Aligned with the committee’s mission to support Cresswind residents in maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle, the event aimed to connect attendees with valuable resources for their well-being. Despite the chilly morning, many residents made their way to the Clubhouse to explore the health benefits available to them.

The fair offered a wide range of health and wellness services. The local NGHA Braselton Hospital was well- represented, bringing staff from five different departments—just a glimpse of its many specialties. A local healing spa provided insights into holistic healing, while the Stretch Zone table offered demonstration stretch sessions and highlighted the benefits of regular stretching. Vendors also showcased products

and services ranging from nutritional supplements to fitness programs, giving residents a variety of ways to support their health goals.

In addition to the booths and demonstrations, attendees had the opportunity to engage in one-on-one conversations with health professionals. This personal interaction allowed residents to ask questions, seek advice, and gather information tailored to their specific needs. Whether it was learning about preventative care, managing chronic conditions, or finding ways to stay active, the fair empowered residents to take control of their health journey.

Wellness extended beyond physical health. Several vendors shared expertise in financial wellness, insurance options, and navigating Medicare, ensuring residents had access to comprehensive support. It was inspiring to see the community take proactive steps toward a healthy and fulfilling year!

Celebrating Veteran’s Day

Although a few months have passed, the impact of this past Veteran’s Day still resonates deeply. Thanks to the incredible efforts of the Veteran’s Club, the day featured a truly one-of-a-kind program that left an indelible impression on all who attended.

The day began with the dedication of our brand-new Honor Walk near the flagpole. Over the past few months, residents purchased commemorative bricks to honor loved ones, many of whom are fellow veterans living in our community. These bricks were thoughtfully placed near the flagpole, creating a space that serves as a lasting tribute to the service and sacrifices of our heroes.

Tom Holloman, president of the Veteran’s Club, led the heartfelt dedication ceremony. Veterans in attendance were invited to place flags on the lawn surrounding the flagpole, a touching display that revealed just how many veterans were among us—including several visitors from outside our community.

Following the Honor Walk dedication, attendees gathered inside to hear the remarkable story of Andy Negra, a vibrant 100-year-old World War II veteran whose charisma and winning smile made him an instant favorite as he recounted his incredible military journey. His service included landing on Utah Beach in Normandy on July 18, 1944, participating in pivotal battles such as Brest, the Bulge, and Bastogne, and serving with the 6th Armored Division, which helped liberate the Buchenwald concentration camp. These are just a few highlights from Andy’s extraordinary career in the United States Army.

Andy’s story resonated deeply with everyone present, serving as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices and courage of our veterans. Thanks to the dedication and hard work of the Veteran’s Club, this Veteran’s Day was more than just a celebration—it was a day of remembrance, gratitude, and connection that will be cherished for years to come.
