JUST THE FACTS: BIGGEST CITY NEWS, IN BRIEF City Receives $620,925 Community Crossings Grant for Infrastructure Work A Community Crossings Grant recently provided the city with funding for needed infrastructure improvements in Charlestown's Industrial Park and Pleasant Ridge areas. The award will allow for road repairs and paving on Pike Street, Industrial Way and a total of 14 streets in the vicinity. City's COVID-19 Relief Program Supports 34 Charlestown Small Businesses Through funding awarded by the Indiana Office of Community & Rural Affairs, the city's Small Business Economic Relief Program has awarded grants to a total of 34 Charlestown businesses in an effort to offset the economic impacts of COVID-19 closures and help retain 136 local jobs impacted by the pandemic, for a total funding amount of $250,000. The city has applied for a second round of funding to continue the program in 2021.
New Facade Improvement Grant Program Aimed at Downtown Revitalization In an effort to serve as a catalyst for economic development and support private investment in Charlestown's downtown and surrounding areas, the city has established a new program to match private investment in facade improvements dollar for dollar, providing up to $10,000 for a $20,000 project. Projects should enhance the visual, historic aesthetic, or economic value to the area. Interested commercial businesses and property owners should email Mayor Hodges at Mayor@CityofCharlestown.com for more information on the program.
Indiana American Water Announces Plans for Water Treatment Facility Planning is underway for a new Water Treatment Facility in Charlestown, with construction to begin this summer and completion slated for mid 2022. Since purchasing the utility in 2019, Indiana American Water has invested more than $4 million in the community's troubled water infrastructure, including overdue maintenance projects, system process improvements, and hydrant replacements throughout Charlestown. The new treatment facility will help to address long-standing high manganese levels and water discoloration.
