Until We Meet Again from AGP For me, it has been a wonderful 15 years of shooting sports at Westlake High School! It all started for me many years ago when I started shooting my son’s football games as a “mom,” and then gradually turned this into a business for myself since I fell in love with both the photography and the design elements of making this business! Several years into shooting on the sidelines, I met Jerry Saulman and we became very fast and good friends and decided to create a photography business together... and Action Gallery Pros (AGP) was born! This partnership changed forever how we shot on the sidelines as we went from ‘shooting the game’ to shooting individual players, creating those individual photo galleries and specializing on shooting the player not the game. Over the years, we got better and better at this concept and fell in love with being able to provide our clients with precious memories from on the field and on the sidelines! By coming in and shooting media day, we were able to create our now signature BUDDY POSTERS! Jerry and I have so enjoyed being able to create one of a kind design projects for our clients! We also provided the school media departments with the edited head shots to use on the jumbotron during the season and in the football program sold by the band. One of my proudest accomplishments with AGP has been the creation of our digital magazine CHAPS ILLUSTRATED! (This allowed us to stretch our design skills even further!) This all began because we felt that Westlake was not getting enough ‘press’ coverage in the local paper and we wanted to provide our parents with a one of a kind digital magazine which was weekly during football season and monthly afterwards! As far as we know, we were the ONLY high school in the nation doing this! Several years ago, we found other schools trying to jump on the bandwagon of doing a digital magazine like ours.....it has been very flattering for us! Although creating and editing CI has been a real labor of love (ALOT OF WORK), we have both thouroughly enjoyed it and are sad to see it end. Over the years, alot of parents have asked me why I was still shooting on the sidelines....first, it was a business for me.......secondly, I have so enjoyed getting the
know the folks on the sidelines each season...many of the refs have become my very good friends! AND, it has been a blast to get to know the Westlake student photographers over the years as well...many of those kids have become my friends too! I have also really enjoyed getting the know the coaches and trainers! I still brag about the coaches at our school as they are just some of the very best around! We make ourselves invisible on the sidelines so as not to get in the way of the players and coaches, but both Jerry and I have been very impressed at how these coaches treat and talk to these players.....Coach Todd Dodge is amazing and his staff is just excellent! I will miss them all. Also, being a sports photographer allowed me to be invited to join the local Austin Chapter of the National Football Foundation! I have loved that! I will continue to serve on that NFF Board of Directors. Jerry and I are taking AGP in a new and slightly different direction.....you may see us out in Austin shooting events, or doing business websites.....you may even see us out at other schools doing their MEDIA DAY events. We are also very expert in creating memory books! We are mulling over the idea of creating a new digital magazine..... the sky is the limit for us. Please know that our hearts will always be with Westlake and all the student athletes and coaches! Occassionally, you might even see us on the sidelines at Westlake! GO CHAPS! Most warmly,
Michelle Tucker
Thoughts from the Editors... I find myself a little emotional about this being our last issue of Chaps Illustrated as I feel like we have been doing this for a LONG time now! It has been one of my greatest priveleges capturing the sporting events of our Westlake Sporting Universe and delivering up cool action shots all these years! I will be persuing other photographic and design adventures in the near future but plan to keep my ear to the ground following the happenings at WHS! I am not certain where my business future lies but I know it will be exciting!
Michelle
Jerry and I will be available to do a comprehensive MEDIA DAY for any sport who chooses to use our company, AGP. Please check out our website at www.actiongallerypros.com for more details! We can also make ourselves available to do custom design work, memory books, etc! As always, GO CHAPS! I think for me, this chapter of our lives with Chaps Illustrated is on hold. It’s a dream to be able to do a magazine and who knows when we may resume with Issue 72. Probably not this year. Maybe not this same way. Maybe nothing like this. But, never say never. There’s a time, a place, a price for most everything and should the stars align again, maybe we’ll be back here again. Until then, we will see what the new season holds.
Jerry

So your child has a concussion. Now what? A concussion causes serious brain damage. Even if it doesn’t feel like you hit your head very hard, there is almost certainly an area of the brain that has been bruised, losing blood flow and therefore oxygen, without which it cannot heal. There is a growing consensus among concussion researchers that the only effective way to proactively treat a concussion is with Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), which has been proven to rebuild damaged tissue as well as stimulate actual brain cell regeneration. HBOT is the administration of higher concentrations of oxygen under higher atmospheric pressure to force oxygen to dissolve directly into tissue, even without blood flow. This extra oxygen allows tissues to heal that otherwise would have remained damaged, like the brain after a concussion. Treatments last about an hour and a typical concussion protocol will call for 2 to 20 hours of treatment depending on the time between injury and treatment initiation. Paid advertisement

Sports Histoyr
>>> Notable for this week
SPORTS TRIVIA YOU PROBABLY HAD NO IDEA ABOUT...
May 25, 1922 On this day in sports history, BABE RUTH was suspended for a single day and fined $200 for throwing dirt on an umpire. I know the feeling of adrenaline when you’re really into something and the tide goes against you and while you feel like you’re losing, you lose your cool. I get it. I’d just like to send some encouragement to all Westlake athletes and parents to please, please, please in this day and age where everybody has a video camera in their pocket, please think before you do or say anything to anyone at any sporting event--or anywhere for that matter. Say every word like it will be on the front page of the Statesman. Sincere, cool, sportsmanlike conduct is never out of style. The events of the past few months all across the United States have shown that we all need to work a little harder at being better people and it will doubtlessly rub off on everyone else. You can hold a door for someone else to walk through. You can hold your tongue. But never, ever be responsible for holding someone back from just living their life. We are not here to limit each other, but to amplify our successes so that our community is full of great and wonderous kindness, bravery, and humility. Set the best example you can, and I will too. Peace.

“...the practice of mindful eating can enhance your experience with food...”
Nutrition
byMonica BY MONICA KANE, RD, LMT, NCTMB
thebalancedbeing@hotmail.com
CREATE LASTING CHANGE Healthy eating is the cornerstone for looking and feeling your physical best! Trends come and go, but the essentials of healthy eating will stand the test of time. Never before has so much focus been placed on the power of food to create positive and lasting change in our lives. With such a wellness forward movement in eating, making healthy food choices is easier than you might think. Magazine covers in grocery store aisles boast healthy and abundant recipes and eating tips. Mainstream grocery stores are expanding inventories to create entire sections dedicated to health and wellness.
LASTING CHANGES
Several restaurants are following suit with deliciously healthy spins on many of their offerings. Calories and fat contents are prominently labeled on menus in cafes and restaurants to make smarter choices a no brainer. The stage is set, now it is up to you to create the most vibrant and healthy storyline for you!
Using a MORE approach can make lasting healthy eating behaviors simple:
Mindful: Try a little practice called mindfulness. It
may sound silly or just a touch too far out. However, the practice of mindful eating can enhance your experience with food and the resulting activities you pursue as a result of the energy provided to you by the foods you choose to eat. Practicing mindful eating is something that is easy to do and can quickly become integrated into your daily practice.
Being mindful means “to be aware or pay attention.” Very simply put, you can practice mindful eating by taking a moment to think before you eat. Why on earth would you want to take a moment to think? That is an excellent question. Thinking before you eat offers both mental and physical health advantages to your food choices.
Open: When your cup is full, there is no room to
add to that cup. Take a moment each and every day to empty your cup of one unhealthy eating habit or food choice. This helps you open yourself to new or otherwise previously refused healthy foods or practices. Open yourself to new food choices and experiences, even if they are out of your comfort zone. When looking at healthy food, don’t knock it until you try it.
Realistic: Any change that you implement to create
healthier living, especially when it comes to eating, should be realistic. Rome was not built in a day. You cannot dramatically change your life in one day either. Make small and realistic changes each and every day that move you closer to your wellness goals.
Enjoyable: Find joy in all that you do. Even the most
basic of things can be fun when approached with a spirit of joy. Eating with a mindset of enjoyment can cement lasting positive eating changes. Look to find the joy in the sights, smells, and tastes in the foods that you choose to eat. Savor the taste and texture of fresh and healthy food flavors. A state of happiness is linked to a state of good health. The happier we are the less stressed we tend to be. We know basics of healthy foods. We live in a society that makes healthy eating accessible. We all want to look and feel our best. There is no better time to BE the change that you want! Use the MORE approach and cement those changes for a vital, strong, and healthy you for now and years to come!
