SAFETY AT CAMP This summer your child’s safety is our top concern.

Our camps are accredited by the American Camping Association, who independently audit requirements related to staff, supervision, programming and environment quality. In addition, we have operating guidelines in place that prevent the spread of COVID-19 during care. We meet or exceed all COVID-19 standards outlined by the California Department of Health’s camp industry guidelines.

This summer we will have implemented daily health screenings, the encouragement of social distancing, use of masks, contact free check-in, stable groups of children, and strict stay at home sick policies. In addition, we have increased our cleaning and disinfecting practices, the promotion of healthy hygiene, and staff training to minimize the spread of COVID-19. We have protocols in place should a case occur and have been operating successful youth programs since the pandemic started. While things may look different in camp this year, our commitment to a fun and engaging summer remain.

CAMP CALENDAR An exciting and memorable summer is in store for your child at our American Camp Association (ACA) accredited YMCA Summer Camp. Experienced leaders work in a small group setting designed to stimulate and challenge children entering kindergarten through sixth grade.

We have over 50 years of camp experience and will enrich your camper’s day with learning, adventure and new experiences. Your child will be an integral part of a small group of children as they learn new skills, develop lasting friendships and pursue the Y’s mission of healthy spirit, mind and body.

SPORTS CAMP WEEKS 1 - 9 Sports of all Sorts

SPORTS CAMP WEEKS 1 - 9 AGES 5 - 12 SPORTS OF ALL SORTS Get ready for some fun! Sports of All Sorts will be centered around sports, teamwork, and developing individual skills.

Campers will be participating in a variety of sports: soccer, basketball, tennis, and other field games.

Campers will share in character development and compete in a variety of fun games and competitions.

DAY CAMP AGES 5 - 12

WEEK 1: YMCA ADENTURES Campers of all levels can enjoy this active week of summer. Campers will be cultivating a sense of family and Montecito YMCA spirit as they play team sports, create their own Montecito YMCA flag, and come up with their own dance to our YMCA song!

Campers will be taught new sports and skills as we play field games and engage in friendly competition.

WEEK 2: TREASURE HUNTERS The Y is bringing action and adventure to summer camp this week! Camp will be filled with treasure hunts, exploring the outdoors, and crafting adventure tools.

Campers will learn about outdoor living skills, a bit of geography, and will learn about a few treasures we have in our very own Montecito Community!

WEEK 3: OUT OF THIS WORLD Get ready for a week of yoga, singing, dancing, and crafts using elements we find in nature all around us! This week our camp counselors will be teaching campers about our solar system, the history of summer solstice, and campers will even spend time learning about our own Santa Barbara Summer Solstice traditions!

WEEK 4: INDEPENDENCE DAY Campers can celebrate red, white, and blue all week at the Y. Gear up for patriotic sport games, Fourth of July themed crafts, and a bit of US history.

This week, counselors will infuse classic American anthems with activities and introduce campers to the 50 states that make up our country!

WEEK 5: MOOVIN’ AND GROOVIN’ This week will have campers moovin’ and groovin’ at the Montecito Y! Campers will create musical instruments, test out their lyric making skills and learn the basics of many forms of dance! Counselors will also lead outdoor games and friendly competitions incorporating music and dance.

WEEK 6: INNOVATORS This week, our campers will take on the role of being innovators! Campers will have a week full of engineering, architecture, fun group experiments, and science themed outdoor games. Counselors will lead activities that will teach campers about chemical reactions, world architecture, and more!

WEEK 7: FUN AND FITNESS This week campers can expect classic and imaginative ways to have fun and stay fit outdoors. Campers will participate in games ranging from dodgeball to table tennis, basketball to bocce ball! Counselors will be adding in sports trivia, history, and made-up ball games throughout the week!

WEEK 8: OHANA Adventures are coming to the Montecito Y as we learn Hawaiian words, traditions, and songs. Campers will craft their own decorations for a luau celebration and learn about sea creatures that live within island waters. We will have our own camp backyard beach day as we spend a day under the sun, have a sand castle building competition, and learn about the sea life right here in Montecito.

WEEK 9: CELEBRATION OF NATIONS This week we will be learning and enjoying many cultures as campers take a closer look into what makes humanity so diverse! Counselors will lead crafts, games, and friendly competitions focusing on a new continent every day. Campers can look forward to learning a few new words in different languages, learning all about the good food that is made around the world, and spending time listening to music from around the world.

WEEK 10: CHALLENGE WEEK End your summer with a week of challenges at the Montecito Y! Camp counselors will lead outdoors games, friendly competitions, and YMCA crafts to build up comradery. Campers will compete in track and field events, relay races, and kickball games. At the end of the week we will host a closing ceremony with a final camp celebration of games!

KEEPING KIDS LEARNING Summer learning loss is a worry for many parents. The facts are, the equivalent of one month of learning is lost after summer vacation and school year transitions related to the COVID-19 pandemic have put many students behind for a fall start already. While the Montecito Family YMCA’s Summer Camps are focused on recreation, the Y has a responsibility to help families promote learning over the summer. This summer we are committed to: •

Promoting our Hop the Gap program which includes 20 -30 minutes of reading after lunch. Studies show that being a bookworm is one of the best ways to sharpen spelling and grammar skills!

Having at least five S.T.E.A.M. group activities each week. Problem-solving, critical thinking, teamwork, and a creative mind are key to school success!

Promoting 60 minutes of structured physical fitness each day. Physical health is proven to increase academic performance!
