Moscow is facing serious problems within its transportation systems.

Without the implementation of new policies, its overload will double by 2025 and average time per trip on private vehicles will increase by 25%, despite the population growth being around 0.8%. It is mainly caused by ineffective system of traffic control and constantly decreasing popularity of public transport.

Furthermore, the results of the

performed measures and created infrastructure failed to meet the expectations, which is primarily linked to inabilities to handle huge flows of data, worsened by absence of adaptive big data collection and processing systems.

Solutions

Integration of SAP HANA with its adaptive and flexible approach to big data analysis will not only address the problem directly, completing the ITS in the city, but ensure its economic and informational efficiency as well. In addition to this, it will provide smart solutions for various types of public and private transport, taking advantage of the abilities of the current infrastructure.

Introduction of Intelligent Transportation System will increase average speed of cars and buses, reduce number of road accidents and CO2 emissions, increase popularity of ground public transport and decrease its costs, improving overall image of Moscow.

The old and poorly automated system of trains’ coordination is still used. It is mainly based on the decision of a driver about the distance to the nearest train, being highly personalised and decentralised.

Main goal of ITS in Moscow is to optimize routes of both people and vehicles For metro, analysis of real-time location of trains will help both customers and train drivers Data collected from cameras and sensors for underground situation analysis such as congestions on stations, exact positions of trains on routes and intervals between them, is processed and translated to info-screens and the mobile app, showing the optimized way from A to B, taking the functioning capacities of stations into account. Hence, the distribution of people throughout the metro becomes more uniform. The sophisticated automation of processes of trains’ regulation based on dynamics situation analysis are inevitable. High performance and flexibility of SAP HANA in-memory technology, alongside with SAP Mobile Platform, meet given requirements of analyzing the continuously growing data stream.

Despite the increase of average speed, the number of road accidents will fall by 25% and thus, more than 210 lives annually will be saved

According to the survey conducted by sociological research centre “Romir�, some determinants of Moscow image are: Ecological state (46.9%) Congestions (14.5%)

So, the impact on image will be mainly determined by reduction of exhausting fumes. Together with the improved quality of public transport and reduction of congestions, Moscow will become more attractive city to visit and live.
