Belle crowned best Great Dane at Crufts show A GREAT Dane from Hesketh Bank put its best paw forward to scoop two top canine awards at Crufts. Nia Pendleton-Watkins’ dog Belle, won not one, but two categories at the world famous show. Belle, whose show name is ‘Zefather What It Takes’ won Best Bitch (in breed) and Best of Breed at the four-day international canine event held annually in Birmingham. The Great Dane was also featured in the working group category which was televised on Channel 4. The dog’s success is a dream come true for Nia after Bella won Best Puppy Bitch, Best Puppy in Breed and Reserve Champion Bitch at last year’s Crufts contest, when she was just 10 month old.

A delighted Nia told the Champion: “Belle won Best of Breed for Great Dane - beating competition from all over the world! It’s a dream out of all proportions to win this! “Her breeder showed her for me on the day - but I show her some of the time as well. “This year we went as a family with my mother, sister and daughter and her partner and had a very long but exhilarating day! “We are all on cloud nine and received congratulations from all over the world. We regularly take Belle for walks at Hesketh Park and she has even just been signed up to a dog modelling agency. “We’re also hoping she’ll become an ambassador for a dog food company.”

He was discovered on one of Lord Street’s wooden benches shortly before 8am by passers-by. A Post Mortem was taking place as the Champion went to press but police refused to reveal any more details about the death pending toxicology and histology reports.
