Catholic Women in Action, a committee of The Catholic Foundation, has launched two initiatives in conjunction with the Year of Mercy: a Women’s Giving Circle formed to facilitate philanthropic giving by women to those in need – and a Human Trafficking Advocacy effort aimed at raising awareness about human trafficking.

Giving Circle Steering Committee Co-chairs Stacy Pellerin and Darlene Robert reflect on the mission of the group: “We feel blessed that God has called a group of 140 women together to help our community. With guidance from the Holy Spirit – both individually and as a group – we hope to be instruments of God’s love and mercy in the lives of our sisters and brothers in need,” Stacy said.

“As Catholic women, we know that the problems Mary Matalin, Catholic Foundation Board member, speaks at kickoff luncheon for Catholic Women in Action Giving Circle of our community can be solved by connecting those in need to those with resources. For us, it’s a connection of heart – feeling and knowing the impact our giving will have,” Darlene said.

The Northshore Chapter hosted its sixth annual dinner at St. Paul’s School, Briggs Assembly Center, on April 22, honoring the service of the Knights of Columbus, Districts 12, 13 and 14. Presenters included Archbishop Gregory M. Aymond and Vaughn Gibson, who spoke on behalf of the Knights of Columbus. Guest speaker was Dr. Brant Pitre who discussed his latest book, “The Case for Jesus: The Biblical and Historical Evidence for Christ.”

To help ensure the financial future of parishes and schools, as well as social and charitable programs, the Northshore Chapter has been actively working with The Catholic Foundation in raising awareness of Legacy (Planned) Giving within our Northshore Catholic community. What is a Donor Advised Fund?

With a Donor Advised Fund (DAF), a donor creates a centralized, efficient, and accessible repository to manage charitable giving. Gifts of cash, securities, or other appreciated assets may be gifted into a designated DAF. The donor then recommends distributions from the fund at any time. Distributions can be made to any 501(c)(3) organization provided their mission does not conflict with Catholic teachings.

How It Works?

GIVE Complete a Donor Advised Fund Agreement and make a tax-deductible contribution of $10,000 or more to The Catholic Foundation. Gifts may include cash,

securities, or other assets. You may select any name for your fund, which can honor family, friends, or deceased loved ones.

SUPPORT Recommend distributions to charities you support, with the option of being recognized or remaining anonymous. Your children and grandchildren can be involved in your decisions, and you can declare a successor or successors.

GROW Additional contributions to your fund may be made at any time.
