VENTRE MOU est une comédie noire qui vous fera vivre les hauts et les bas de sa grossesse et de son accouchement rocambolesque, tout en provoquant les rires avec ses histoires sexuelles les plus embarrassantes à ce jour.
Mais derrière le rire se cache une ombre... Préparez-vous à une collision hilarante et tordue entre deux histoires parallèles : celle d’une femme qui devient maman pour la première fois, et celle d’un homme à sa retraite exposant les complexités de son existence et les vies qu'il a touché.

A choreography of intimate monologue, drag, dirty jokes and an electric lazy-boy. A wicked family reunion party.

It is with immense pleasure and great pride that we open the 99th season of TCM with SOFT SPOT, a bold new creation by Stéphanie Morin-Robert, an artist who constantly pushes the limits of the stage and art. After the national triumph of BLINDSIDE, she returns with the same energy, the same gentle madness, to explore even more intimate and profound territories.
In this dark comedy, SOFT SPOT takes you into a universe where humor, vulnerability, and visual innovation come together to offer you a theatrical experience as unique as it is moving. Prepare to be touched, to laugh, and to reflect, all while reconnecting with the magic of the stage.

A Word from the Creator and Performer of
VENTRE MOU was born from the need to create a space where vulnerability is not only allowed but celebrated. As an artist, I have always been drawn to narratives that reveal human intimacy in its rawest form. With this show, I wanted to break traditional stage conventions and tackle topics often deemed taboo.
VENTRE MOU explores themes such as childhood trauma and motherhood, blending humor, song, and performance. The goal is to create an authentic connection with the audience, allowing them to see themselves in those moments of fragility we all share.
The integration of karaoke, drag, and honest discussions on delicate subjects is a way to release emotions and explore the multiple facets of identity. Every element of VENTRE MOU has been designed to offer a rich and varied experience where anything can be said, sung, or danced.
The title VENTRE MOU refers to that sensitive spot we all have within us. It also evokes motherhood, a central theme in my life. Becoming a mother while facing my own past has been both a beautiful and complex process. Through this show, I give voice to that complexity without simplifying or embellishing it.
VENTRE MOU is a work that erases the boundary between the spectator and the performer. The audience becomes a partner in this adventure, sharing with me stories, songs, and dialogues that resonate with their own experiences.
I invite you to let go, to open your soft spot, and to share this moment with me. Together, we will transform these perceived weaknesses into strengths and these moments of vulnerability into a celebration of humanity.

Patrick, ancien du Black Hole Theatre Company de l’Université du Manitoba, est un technicien théâtral pluridisciplinaire avec une emphase des accessoires et l’éclairage. Il a eu le plaisir de travailler avec la majorité des théâtres winnipegois (Rainbow Stage, RMTC, PTE, WJT et autres) mais Patrick est surtout fier de travailler au Théâtre Cercle Molière depuis 2019.
Patrick Bellemare (he/him) | Lighting Design, Stage Manager
Patrick, an alumnus of the Black Hole Theatre Company at the University of Manitoba, is a multidisciplinary theatre technician with an emphasis on props and lighting. He has had the pleasure of working with most Winnipeg theatres (Rainbow Stage, RMTC, PTE, WJT and others) but Patrick is most proud of working at Théâtre Cercle Molière since 2019.

Technicien au TCM depuis 2010, il connait bien les théâtres et les festivals de la ville avec des expériences au Winnipeg Jewish Theater, RMTC Warehouse, Indigenous Day Live, IATSE, Red Rover Entertainment, Winnipeg Fringe Festival, et au Prairie Theater Exchange.
Miguel Fortier (he/him) | Lighting Design, Technical Director
Miguel has a multidisciplinary background (carpenter, stagehand, sound and lighting technician, and many others). A technician at TCM since 2010, he is no stranger to the city's theatres and festivals, with experience at the Winnipeg Jewish Theater, RMTC Warehouse, Indigenous Day Live, IATSE, Red Rover Entertainment, Winnipeg Fringe Festival, and the Prairie Theater Exchange.
James Gangl (il) | Œil externe
James Gangl est le créateur de trois excellents spectacles solos et d’un qui est terrible. Il a l'honneur de collaborer avec de nombreux artistes talentueux sur leurs projets solos et dans le cadre de ses ateliers Page to Stage. Quand James ne crée pas, il fait du bénévolat comme thérapeute stagiaire à The Gatehouse, une organisation dédiée aux survivants adultes d'abus sexuels durant l’enfance.

James Gangl is the creator of three great solo shows and one terrible one. He is honoured to work with many talented artists on their solo projects and through his Page to Stage series of workshops. When James is not creating, he volunteers as a Student Therapist at The Gatehouse, an organization dedicated to serving adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse.

He is ½ of the Canadian Comedy Award-winning duo James & Jamesy, whose performances merge physical comedy, clown, and dance to create theatrical environments where audiences feel invited and compelled to participate.

With a distinct and multidisciplinary style, jaymez has worked across visual arts, dance, theater, and music for over a decade. His designs have appeared in numerous international festivals, dance productions, and theatrical works. He has won two Winnipeg Theatre Awards for outstanding design and is a member of the board of IATSE Local ADC 659.

Robert Nicolas is a Franco-Manitoban visual artist, writer and musician from Winnipeg, Manitoba. After studying fine arts at the Université de Moncton (NB), he obtained a B.A. in literature from the Université de Saint-Boniface and an M.A. in creative writing from the University of Manitoba.
Lara Rae (elle) | Œil externe
Lara Rae est une humoriste, scénariste et productrice canadienne, mieux connue comme cofondatrice et ancienne directrice artistique du Winnipeg Comedy Festival. Nommée trois fois aux Canadian Comedy Awards et aux Gemini Awards, elle a travaillé sur des émissions comme Little Mosque on the Prairie. Elle milite pour les droits LGBTQ+ et enseigne les études de genre à l'Université de Winnipeg.
Lara Rae (she/her) | Outside Eye
Lara Rae is a Canadian comedian, writer, and producer, best known as a co-founder and longtime artistic director of the Winnipeg Comedy Festival. A three-time Canadian Comedy Award nominee and Gemini nominee, she has also worked on hit TV shows like Little Mosque on the Prairie. Lara is an advocate for LGBTQ+ issues and teaches in the Women’s and Gender Studies department at the University of Winnipeg

À propos de l'oeuvre sur la page couverture
Pour VENTRE MOU j’ai dessiné les deux protagonistes, bedonnants et agités, dos à dos dans un vaste et sombre sous-sol. Le titre de la pièce - gonflé et criant - flotte en arrière-plan. D’un côté, une femme enceinte qui s’enfarge viscéralement et qui s’exprime à grands coups de pied. De l’autre, un mon’oncle en bobettes qui performe ses blagues coquines en empoignant une longue marionnette molle. Chacun tient une prothèse oculaire dans sa main (ceci est un clin d’oeil). Ils sont collés l’un à l’autre, c’est un peu drôle et assez inconfortable !

About the Cover Artwork
For SOFT SPOT I drew the protagonists, bellied and agitated, back to back in a vast dark basement. The title of the play - swollen and encumbering - floats in the background. On one side, a pregnant woman is kicking and tripping over viscera. On the other, a hairy relative wearing tighty-whities is telling crass jokes and holding a long gloopy puppet. They are each holding an ocular prosthetic (wink wink). They are stuck together, which is a little comical and kind of uncomfortable!
