FROM THE ACTING GENERAL MANAGER

As Acting General Manager of The Center Club, I’m thrilled to welcome you to another exciting season! Spring is in the air, and with it comes a fresh array of events and opportunities to connect, unwind, and have fun at your Club.

Our members continue to inspire with the diverse ways they enjoy The Center Club. A new member recently spent the whole day here: starting with coffee at 7 a.m., tackling work in our Business Center, attending a meeting, enjoying lunch, and finishing the day at an evening event. It’s that perfect blend of productivity and enjoyment that defines the new Center Club experience!

Looking back at the winter, we hosted unforgettable events – from our lively Brunches with Santa, Elsa and Olaf to the New Year’s Eve Extravaganza with Chef Bannan’s delicious creations.

Our IntraClubs and Interest Groups have been buzzing with activity, with everything from our largest-ever Women In Business gathering to a thrilling Murder Mystery Dinner. Honoring Black History Month, we hosted two successful events that celebrated

brotherhood and sisterhood and explored how the Divine Nine Organizations are adapting to the 21st Century.

This spring, we’re gearing up for even more fun! Get ready for our popular events like Seafood Night, Easter Brunch and our first-ever Passover Seder. Plus, we’ll be celebrating Opening Day and cheering on the O’s all season long, as well as re-igniting and launching initiatives like the Real Estate Connections Interest Group and The Art of Group. Whether it be The Art of Music, Entertaining, Cultural Events, Photography or other forms of art, I am personally very excited to see both these groups take shape.

In honor of Women’s History Month, we’re excited to welcome Katie Curran O’Malley for a powerful discussion on using our voices to create change and we’ll host a hands-on bouquet workshop to get you in the mood to plan your summer garden.

Whatever the occasion – whether it’s celebrating Mom, Easter, Passover, a graduation or a wedding – we’re here to help make it extraordinary. We cannot wait to see you this spring!

We are thrilled to continue our partnership with the talented floral designers at Flowers & Fancies. Their breathtaking arrangements always enhance the beauty and warmth of the Club and their stunning creations take center stage on the cover of this newsletter.

Spring into the season! – Join us on March 20th as we celebrate Women’s History Month with a hands-on flower arranging workshop. Gather your friends and explore the magic of flowers together. Space is limited—be sure to check the Club Calendar for registration details!

Celebrating

Who Inspire and Empower

As we honor Women’s History Month, we take a moment to recognize the incredible women who uplift, support and inspire others every day. In this special feature, we spoke with four remarkable members about the ways they champion and empower those around them. Whether through mentorship, advocacy, or drawing strength from those who came before them.

Downtown

of Baltimore Member since 2009

What woman in your life has been your greatest source of inspiration and why?

My mom has always been my greatest inspiration. Her sacrifices and the values she instilled in me shaped the person I am today. Despite significant challenges, she rose above them with courage and determination, unknowingly leading by example. Because of her perseverance, I know I can overcome any obstacle. Her strength and resilience inspired me as a child and continue to guide me now. I strive every day to honor her legacy, carrying forward the values of determination, integrity, and compassion she taught me. She will always be my guiding light.

How do you work to inspire and empower the next generation of women?

As the proud mom of a bright young woman, I believe my mission to inspire and empower the next generation of women starts at home. I’ve worked to instill in my daughter the values my mom instilled in me: hard work, education, and the belief that anything is possible with determination.

My journey began as an engineer and evolved into entrepreneurship. Though the path has been challenging, I’ve embraced each obstacle as an opportunity, hoping my actions reflect the power of perseverance. I’m passionate about education and mentorship. Providing scholarships, especially for women and minorities, helps close barriers to higher education, while mentorship allows me to learn and grow alongside the young women I guide. Supporting their success—whether through advice, connections, or encouragement— creates a cycle of empowerment that uplifts us all.

Women

Growth and Success

How do you use your platform to create opportunities for other women?

A leadership platform offers many ways for women to create opportunity for other women. I have personally focused on role modeling and mentoring.

Role modeling can be an incredibly powerful motivator for women to take a chance on themselves. The majority of my own leadership team is comprised of female vice presidents, including our chief operating officer, chief medical officer, chief nursing officer, and chief financial officer. Many women suffer from imposter syndrome and may shy away from applying for a promotion or pursuing an exciting job posting, but seeing other women succeed in top leadership positions can provide that extra needed push to take a risk. It’s the “if they can do it, so can I” mentality.

The second, mentoring, is one of the great joys that come with being in a position such as mine. Because of my role, I hear from many early and mid-career women who are looking for advice. I always schedule time to meet with them. These are gifted, brilliant women, and I am grateful for the chance to share my own path - and lessons I’ve learned along the way – and to encourage them in their career pursuits.

What legacy do you hope to leave for future generations of women?

I began my career as a clinician-educator on the faculty at Johns Hopkins Medicine – focused on delivering care and educating the next generation of physicians. Along the way, I discovered a new passion for healthcare delivery on a more macro level. This led to my decision to seek an M.B.A. and subsequently to a new career as a hospital administrator. I hope my example shows future generations of women that it is okay to embrace the unknown. It is okay to not have a “lifelong career plan” from day one. It is okay to change course and try a new path. Or to stretch for a promotion you did not think was possible. Hopefully, seeing other women, like me, take chances will provide encouragement for my younger colleagues.

Women in Business IntraClub from the Co-Chairs

At The Center Club’s Women In Business (WIB) IntraClub, the power of intergenerational connections is at the heart of its success. This dynamic networking group brings together women from diverse backgrounds, ages, and professional experiences, creating a unique space where personal and professional growth thrive. The group is a blend of younger women in their 20s, eager to learn and develop their careers, and seasoned professionals who have carved out successful paths as business owners and corporate leaders.

The beauty of WIB lies in its ability to bridge generational divides, fostering an environment where each woman’s unique perspective is valued. Younger members benefit immensely from the

mentorship and wisdom of more experienced professionals, gaining insights that can guide them through challenges and help accelerate their own career trajectories. For those in leadership roles, interacting with younger women brings fresh ideas, innovative approaches, and a deeper understanding of the evolving landscape of business.

This intergenerational collaboration is a powerful reminder of how women in business can grow stronger together. The group doesn’t just focus on traditional networking, but rather creates deep, lasting connections that enrich the personal and professional lives of all involved. Through shared experiences, problem-solving, and encouragement, members leave these meetings feeling not only more connected but empowered.

WIB is a place where women uplift one another, regardless of age or stage in their career. The diverse mix of business owners, corporate leaders and up-and-coming professionals leads to a vibrant community where the exchange of knowledge and experience is constant. The result is a supportive and inclusive network that celebrates every member’s contribution, paving the way for more women to thrive in all areas of business.

realms.

This IntraClub serves as a safe, supportive environment where women can engage in open dialogue. The members— representing diverse industries and backgrounds—share a common goal: to elevate one another in the oftenchallenging business landscape. By meeting regularly, the group ensures that women have ongoing opportunities to connect, build relationships, and offer one another guidance. The conversations are not only focused on business strategies but also encompass personal development, worklife balance, and the unique hurdles women face in the corporate world.

Through shared experiences, problemsolving, and encouragement, members leave these meetings feeling not only more connected but empowered.

The networking aspect of the IntraClub plays a vital role in creating new opportunities. Through these connections, members often find new clients, collaborators, mentors, and even friends. The bonds formed within the group are built on mutual respect and shared experiences, allowing women to build meaningful partnerships that extend beyond the meetings themselves.

Dog Digital Member Since 2009

The Women in Business IntraClub at The Center Club offers an empowering platform for women business owners and stakeholders to foster collaboration, education, and inspiration. Meeting monthly, the group provides a unique space where members can share experiences, challenges, and insights, creating valuable opportunities for growth and learning in both professional and personal

In addition to networking, the WIB IntraClub hosts The Trailblazer Awards. These awards allow women to be recognized for their accomplishments in their fields while providing opportunities for other women. They also serve as a source of inspiration, with successful women leaders — often sharing their stories, challenges, and triumphs, motivating others to push forward in their own endeavors.

The intrinsic value of the IntraClub lies in the sense of community it creates, where members feel heard, supported, and encouraged to reach their full potential. The WIB IntraClub is a powerful resource that fosters collaboration, education, and inspiration, ensuring that every woman who participates leaves with new knowledge, stronger connections, and the confidence to excel in her business and life.

Member Connections

Marty Lattman and Kappie Bogart

Marty Lattman tells the story:

I had the pleasure of dining with Kappie Bogart and her husband Robert Baggatts at the “soft opening” of the new kitchen back in November. We were seated at the same table and had a very enjoyable evening together getting to know each other.

During our conversation, I found out that Kappie is Board President for the House of Ruth Maryland. This is a highly respected not-for-profit dedicated to helping victims of IPV (Intimate Partner Violence), and I cannot think of a more noble mission. It has been doing tremendously valuable work for almost 50 years. Since I have a background in working with cause-based entities of this type, I expressed a lot of interest in learning more about what they do. Kappie was happy to share, and then she asked me if I’d like to somehow get involved. We landed on me applying to become a member of their Board of Directors, and I’m happy to report that I have now joined this outstanding organization in that capacity. It has already proven to be a very rewarding experience for me.

To call The Center Club “a special place” is too vague and does not do it justice, but I’m at a loss to come up with a better brief description. It is almost tangible when you first enter the 15th Floor. The level of service and the feeling of community is way above anything I’ve ever seen, which reflects the exceptional culture that the staff’s leadership has embedded in the organization. The employees go out of their way to make every Club member feel special, which is not an easy thing to do. There are not enough accolades I can think of at this point, and I look forward to enjoying my membership for a long time.
