DISTRACTED DRIVING know the facts

Distracted driving has become a deadly epidemic on our roads. By driving distracted, you’re robbing yourself of seconds that you may need to avoid a close call or deadly crash.

Texting

April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. This is a good time to regroup and take responsibility for the choices we make when we’re on the road. During a portion of Distracted Driving Awareness Month, from April 3 through 10, you may have seen increased law enforcement on the roadways as part of the national paid media campaign U Drive. U Text. U Pay. This campaign reminds drivers of the deadly dangers and the legal consequences – including fines – of texting behind the wheel.

Take Action

-Remind your friends and family: If you’re in the driver’s seat, it’s the only thing you should be doing. No distractions.

-If your driver is texting or otherwise distracted, tell them to stop and focus on the road.

-Ask your friends to join you in pledging not to drive distracted. You could save a life. Share your pledge on social media to spread the word — #JustDrive.

-Need to send a text? Pull over and park your car in a safe location.

-Designate your passenger as your “designated texter” to respond to calls or messages.

-Do not scroll through apps while driving.

-Struggling not to text and drive? Put the cell phone in the trunk, glove box, or back seat of the vehicle until you arrive at your destination.

DAVID ROBY SIGNAL MAINTAINER

The job in itself is unique in many ways. Experiencing the different equipment both up to date and also historic in some situations is something he enjoys witnessing. He also enjoys the variety of unique tools needed to complete tasks.

We are thrilled to introduce you to one of our valued team members, David Roby, a Signal Maintainer who covers the Savannah Old Fort Rail-line in Savannah, GA and Jaxport Rail-line in Jacksonville, FL. Every day, David starts his day by clocking into a morning conference call at 6:45 am, which serves as a kickoff to the beginning of the day for the entire team. With an 8-hour workday that occasionally requires overtime, David is committed to ensuring that all crossings and equipment meet FRA and CDL requirements.

David’s work takes him on the road, driving a total of 2000 miles per month to inspect crossings and maintain equipment. Despite the long hours and driving, David still manages to spend quality time with his family, pursuing his passion for the outdoors through activities like hunting, fishing, and landscaping. As a former property superintendent and general contractor, David has a keen eye for detail, and he’s able to perform any household repairs, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical work.
