A business crossroads: here is the right habitat to export
Varese shortens the distances Varese has a record: it is the cradle of Italian industry. At the beginning of the Nineteenth century the first productive concerns were founded in our Province. These factories represented the genius of farseeing entrepreneurs and boasted a favorable geographic position: Varese is in the middle of Europe, near Alps and along the line towards the North of Europe. Thanks to this strategic regional project, Varese could offer new infrastructures. In a few years relevant roadways allowed to reach rapidly Como, Lecco and Bergamo and to improve traffic toward Malpensa and Milan. In the meantime the project AlpTransit Gottardo allowed to develop the railway transport of goods through a stronger connection from the North Sea to the Mediterranean countries with intermodal calls in the Southern part of our Province. Nowadays the airports of Malpensa and Linate offer numerous international flights and assure daily flights and connections with the main European cities. Besides Varese boasts an innovative telecommunication system, which is based on a network of effective frequency bands: this territorial system allows companies and citizens to simply their communication.

Diversification and entrepreneurial spirit are the key words used to describe the productive reality of the Province of Varese. In this land there are 64,000 businesses, with 268,000 workers. The manufacturing and the tertiary sectors involve several realities and offer a wide range of products and services. There are relevant businesses, with a high international prestige. These subjects include small and medium concerns, as well as workshops. 54 companies a square kilometer (the average is 35 companies in Lombardy and 18 companies in all the country). The so-called Varese System also includes 36% of artisan businesses (32% in Lombardy and 28% in all Italy). The productive network of our Province is based on strong supplying and sub-supplying connections. In this network the bigger companies depend on the professionalism, the specialization and the flexibility of the smaller concerns. This connection among companies makes our Province be unique and offers a favorable basis for new businesses. In other words this is a land including modernity and tradition, which has been able to keep strong historical sectors (textile industry, metal structural works, aerospace field, household industry), but also to diversify its own productions and to take advantage from any opportunity (fashion, new materials as concern textile and plastic field, home automation, biotechnologies, medical technologies, eco-friendly technologies).
