Dear Friends,
Welcome to the 16th annual Hope Solutions gala, Ruby Boots – There’s No Place Like Home! We are so thrilled you are here to celebrate with us. We have a wonderful evening ahead: silent and live auctions, dinner, line-dancing, and entertainment by Jewels Hanson & Company. Most importantly, you will hear from three of our clients – Ivy, Jetzamany, and Jae who are thriving because of the help they have received from Hope Solutions – a direct result of support from people like you. Their stories are a powerful example of how housing and customized support services set in a loving community can transform lives.
This evening would not be possible without the incredible support of so many wonderful people and organizations. We especially want to thank the amazing Ruby Boots committee and sponsors, as well as our staff, and Board of Directors for their passionate commitment. Thank you to our strong community of donors and volunteers who make our work possible, and thank YOU for making tonight magical!
Since 1997, Hope Solutions’ evidence-based model of permanent housing coupled with support services has consistently resulted in life-changing outcomes for the most vulnerable people in our community. We are also working tirelessly to expand our impact and help fill the major gap in permanent affordable housing through our Homes Heal Hearts campaign.
Tonight, you are part of the Hope Solutions family. We hope you will celebrate our collective success and help us continue to build a strong future for our community. If you are so inclined, please help us meet our operating goal by bidding on auction items or donating to our Fund-A-Need.
Most importantly, enjoy the Ruby Boots Gala, and thank you for helping end homelessness in Contra Costa County!
With gratitude,
Deanne Pearn CEO, Hope Solutions
Don O’Neal Board Chair, Hope Solutions

OPEN MONDAY TO SUNDAY, 11 AM TO 6 PM
OPEN MONDAY TO SUNDAY, 11 AM TO 6 PM
1. All bidders must have a bid number. You are responsible for purchases made with the bid number assigned to you upon arrival.
2. To enter a bid in the silent auction, bidder writes their bid number on the appropriate bid sheet, following minimum and maximum bid instructions. At the official close of the silent auction, volunteer staff will determine the purchaser based on the highest bid. You may bid on any item as often as you wish. Check back frequently to ensure your bid has not been surpassed.
3. To enter a live auction bid, bidder raises their bid card, number facing the auctioneer, signaling the bid. The highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer shall be the purchaser. In the event of any dispute between bidders, the auctioneer shall have sole and final discretion to determine the successful bidder or to re-offer and re-sell the article in dispute. Acknowledged bid constitutes a legally binding commitment by the bidder to purchase the item or service.
4. All sales are “as is” and final. All items must be paid in full before buyer’s departure using cash, personal check paid to the order of Hope Solutions or charged to Visa or Master Card. Credit cards will not be charged until Friday, April 26, 2024. If, after the event, you prefer to submit alternative payment (ie., personal check or DAF) please contact Hope Solutions by 5:00 pm Monday, April 22, 2024.
5. Please read your certificates carefully. Offers have different expiration dates. The purchaser understands that if they are unable to claim the auction item or service within the specified period, the amount of the successful bid is a taxdeductible contribution to Hope Solutions and is NOT refundable.
6. Any values quoted are estimates only. Values are not warranted for tax purposes or general value. Hope Solutions has made reasonable efforts to accurately describe all packages but is not liable for inaccuracies in the item descriptions. Amounts paid in excess of the fair market value may be deductible for federal income tax purposes. Bidders should consult their tax advisors.
7. Group purchases during the live auction: several people wishing to bid together on an item shall be represented by one bid number. Members of the group may pay for their portion individually, for tax purposes, at the time of checkout. The holder of the official bid number, however, is ultimately responsible for payment in full that night.
Over the course of the evening, there will be photographers taking photos of guests and event proceedings.
If you do not wish to have your photograph included in our post-event materials or future marketing efforts, please email Carrie Veurink at: cveurink@hopesolutions.org or text (925) 542-5068. Indicate your first and last name and mobile number.

The Hope Solutions Board of Directors has selected Jasmine Tarkoff to receive the 2024 Community Hero Award for her commitment to the most vulnerable families in Contra Costa County and to honor her leadership.
Jasmine’s unwavering dedication to increasing the supply of affordable, dignified housing in Contra Costa is without measure. This award is a testament to her remarkable efforts to innovate and inspire a whole new way of building beautiful housing in healing communities for our most vulnerable neighbors. Through her visionary leadership, we are unlocking an incredible new set of tools to address our most pressing social crisis, by creating cottage communities on faith-owned land.
Central to Jasmine’s accomplishments is her remarkable ability to forge partnerships with faith-based organizations, rallying them behind a common cause of compassion and social justice. By harnessing the moral authority and collective power of these treasured organizations, she has demonstrated that we are truly better together.
Jasmine has also shown exemplary leadership in mobilizing a broad range of partners from across the community to act and effect meaningful change. From leading our Resident Empowerment Team and the community organizing efforts in Antioch to partnering with public officials, city staff and other community-based organizations, she has demonstrated the profound impact that collaboration can have in addressing societal challenges.
Jasmine’s contributions extend far beyond advocacy. We are deeply grateful for her countless hours spent assembling a best-in-class team of architects, engineers, project managers, and builders to ensure that every aspect of our new cottage communities is meticulously planned and executed to perfection.
None of this would have been possible without Jasmine’s tenacious leadership of the Homes Heal Hearts capital campaign. Hope Solutions is well on our way to reaching our goal of $7 million, which will unlock three times as much in public funding for the next two decades. This monumental achievement will pave the way for sustainable and long-term support for our housing initiatives, ensuring that future generations will continue to benefit from her legacy of compassion and generosity.
With 25 years experience, Hope Solutions knows that permanent housing is the foundation to helping individuals, families and seniors heal from the effects of poverty and chronic homelessness. Our housing-first approach, coupled with supportive services, brings dignity to our clients, and helps them rebuildd their lives.
While our services reach over 3,500 people, our county is facing a shortfall of over 34,000 units of permanent affordable housing. Time, cost, and cumbersome approval processes create significant challenges to building traditional affordable housing. Yet, we refuse to stand idle. This is why we have launched our Homes Heal Hearts campaign committed to building new affordable housing.
Ours is an innovative strategy that partners with faith communities to build cottage communities on their unused land. Our planned developments – ranging from six to twenty-five units, consisting of studio, 1 or 2-bedroom cottages and shared common space – will provide housing and essential on-site services to ensure a holistic approach to transforming lives.
But we can’t do it alone. We’re raising $7 million in private funds, with every dollar catalyzing approximately $3 of public revenue, totaling $21 million. We’re thrilled to report that we’ve already raised almost $6 million towards our goal. Our first cottage community, Hope Village at Grace Presbyterian Church in Walnut Creek, is planned to open this summer. We have four other projects across Contra Costa County in the pipeline that will forever change the trajectory of hundreds of lives. Together, we can provide a safe place to sleep, a nurturing environment for families, and the opportunity for dreams to flourish.
We are grateful to our sponsors, donors, and friends for your amazing support of Ruby Boots - There’s No Place Like Home. Your generosity inspires and gives hope to more than 3,500 formerly homeless and low-income families and individuals in Contra Costa County.
