Benevolence Ministry

Stephen Ministers are prepared with a breadth of skills to help in times of difficulty and crisis. Stephen Ministers care, while Christ heals. Stephen Ministers meet with a Care Receiver for an hour per week to extend help and care. Care Receivers have experienced dramatic changes in their lives as a result of the consistent, caring concern of the Stephen Ministers. Con#dentiality is always observed within this ministry.

The Benevolence Team assists with immediate and emergency needs, distributing designated funds as an expression of God’s love. The team provides spiritual support and next steps for positive life change. Oil Change volunteers and pantry staples are welcome. To learn more, contact donig@cccomaha.org.

Contact: Eric Carpenter / ericc@cccomaha.org Step into Village One 2014 CCC thanks the 500 volunteers and leaders that took the initiative to get out of their seats and into the streets to serve the Village One Neighborhood. God blessed us with a perfect day and opportunity to practically share the gospel of Jesus Christ. When the spiritual meets the practical, it becomes radical. This happened when the Village One neighborhood saw over 500 volunteers practically show them the love of Christ. To #nish the day, we hosted a neighborhood block party where 1200 people attended.

Thank you for serving this year, it was a huge success!

Help coach youth basketball in Village One Do you enjoy basketball and working with kids? SCORE Basketball needs volunteer coaches and assistants for this season's basketball league. SCORE presents an extraordinary opportunity to encourage, challenge, and provide a safe environment for kids to grow and learn about God's love. 1 weekday practice per week and one weekend game per week.

Global Missions Contact: Craig Walter / craigw@cccomaha.org Update from Lance & Karina Grush Lance and Karina have been CCC international workers serving in El Salvador but have most recently taken a sabbatical to work at a church in California. Here is a portion of a recent update from them.

Dear Friends and faithful supporters, I have to admit that this year’s furlough working at Journey Community Church in San Diego was a very difficult year for a number of reasons. One difficult thing was just adjusting to life in the USA. A pastor friend of mine warned me that the degree of “reverse culture shock” that I would experience after living in another country and culture for so long, would be a lot greater for me since I’d lived in El Salvador for 16 ½ years before returning. Boy, was he right! In many ways life is so much simpler and less complicated in El Salvador than it is here. California living is also a big change from life in the Midwest.

You probably remember that even before we left El Salvador last Spring, we were feeling that the Lord was leading us to a change in our missionary calling. I remember my 2nd year living in E.S., in 1998, talking to the Lord about my calling. I had always felt like Jeremiah 1:4-5, was a very personal passage for me. In verse 5 it says, “I have appointed you a prophet TO THE NATIONS.” For years, whenever I read that, I felt like it was the Lord’s words to me. I remember asking him during that year on a couple of occasions, “why have you given me a heart to serve and minister to numerous nations, and yet You placed me only in El Salvador?” I didn’t really hear an answer from Him then, but over the years I have felt Him leading me to a place where I could do just that --- serve Him in numerous nations.

Even having shared all of that, after having served here at Journey and helping out on staff for almost a year, we felt strongly that the Lord was leading us to a change in our calling as missionaries. Since the leadership team at Journey lso felt the same leading by the Lord, we feel excited about how God will use us to have a bigger impact, both in a local church and “to the uttermost parts of the earth.” In the ministries that I have been given to oversee at Journey (Global Missions, Men’s, and Spanish Ministry), I have the continual opportunity to disciple men, pastor a group of people on a smaller scale in both English and Spanish (we LOVE this) and help Journey as they continue to grow in the area of world missions. This is de#nitely something that ONLY God could have worked out.

We will continue to live completely on our own #nancial support through the end of 2014. Then, starting on January 1, 2015, we will start receiving a 50% salary at Journey.

We will still need to raise the other 50% of our support as we continue ministering in El Salvador schools and the Youth Center, and as God continues to open up doors in other nations.

We do not have sufficient words to express our gratitude for how you have faithfully supported us (many of you during my single years) and my family for so many years. It has been and continues to be a great honor to have you on our ministry team to El Salvador, and now to the nations.
