FALCON FAMILY NEWS A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL “Let us pray today for students, the boys and girls who study, and for their teachers, who need to find new ways to continue educating. May the Lord help them on this path and grant them courage and success.” – Pope Francis, May 2020 DEAR FAMILIES: Welcome to the 2020-21 school year! I am honored and blessed to begin my service to the students, families, faculty and staff of Christian Brothers High School; and, in the spirit of Pope Francis’s words, I invite you to join me in praying for our collective courage and success. While this new year did not begin as we had planned and prayed for, I am grateful for the faculty and staff who worked so diligently this summer to ensure that we are prepared to provide rigorous instruction online, in-person, and in a combination of the two through our HyFlex model. Faculty members spent innumerable hours this summer participating in professional development to ensure that their lesson planning and delivery is informed by best practices and designed to best meet the learning needs of our students in this new model. Their courage, creativity, and collaboration in reinventing the ways in which we educate and build community are inspiring. I want to extend a warm welcome to our new freshman and transfer families. Starting this journey under these less-than-ideal circumstances cannot have been easy and our new Falcons have shown tremendous courage in really jumping into this new experience.

Looking ahead, we know that the coming year will be unpredictable, imperfect and not without challenges. We know that we will likely see periods of school closure intermixed with periods of HyFlex Red and Blue attendance. We know that protecting the health and well-being of our community will require a resolute commitment to staying home when sick, steadfastly following safety protocols, and lovingly caring for one another during this challenging time. We also know that we are infinitely graced by the holy presence of God, grounded in our Lasallian Core Principles, and hold as sacred our partnership with students and families. As such, I do believe it will be a success! Live Jesus in our hearts!

Annemarie Bacich, Ed.M. Principal

I am grateful to the many families who joined us for Technology Information Sessions in August and to all of you for supporting our students as they continue adapting to this new way of learning. Your investment of time, and example of resilience, shows in their classroom engagement and contributes greatly toward ensuring their continued success. Thank you, also, to all of you who attended our virtual Back-to-School Night. We certainly missed seeing you in person, however, having the opportunity to say hello and share a bit of the classroom experience with you was a much-needed joy for us all. No doubt these are difficult times we are living in with the uncertainty and isolation brought on by COVID-19. We are closely watching the County of Sacramento numbers, eager for the return of our students to campus, and mindful of our sacred duty to ensure that we are as safe as possible when that time comes.
