A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

“To

be entrusted with the teaching of the young is a great gift and grace of God ” - St John Baptist de La Salle

Dear Families:

Welcome to the 2025-26 school year! My name is Cecilia Powers and for the past 30-plus years, it has been a true “gift and grace of God” to be a part of the Christian Brothers High School community. In that time, I have worn a few hats including teaching social studies and religion, serving as Student Activities Director, Assistant Principal, Dean of Students, administrator in our Lasallian Student Life Office, and most importantly, being a CB mom

My husband, Tony, and I are the proud parents of four graduates, and we have seen firsthand the incredible, transformative impact this school has on its students Our sons are very different people, and each found connections with teachers, coaches, and mentors who helped find and foster unique gifts and talents. Each left CB a better man for having been a part of this community.

It amazes me to think that we are beginning our 150th year in Sacramento, and I believe that is a credit to our Lasallian Catholic mission and its emphasis on reaching the hearts and minds of students It is a credit to the Brothers and lay partners who, for the past 149 years, have worked tirelessly to provide young people with a faith-filled, academically challenging, and inclusive environment in which to prepare for college and life I am grateful for the legacy and for the promise of all that lies ahead

It is a privilege to live my vocation as a colleague in this sacred work and I am honored to serve as Principal this year as Dr. Perry embarks on his new role as President. We are delighted to welcome five new teachers: Mr. Alonzo Aguillio’20 (Engineering), Isabel Aquino (Science), Erin Gallawa (World Language), Monique Judge (English), and Gretchen Tornabene (English). Please join me in welcoming them to the Christian Brothers High School family.

We have some exciting plans for the year ahead, and I am hopeful that you all experienced that firsthand at Back-to-School Night Your students are in excellent hands with outstanding teachers, staff, and administrators who are all committed to making this our best year yet Thank you for your partnership at this important time in the lives of our students and for the gift and grace that is the blessing of your sons and daughters.

ever!

COUNSELING DEPARTMENT

Welcome to Christian Brothers, all new and returning families! Counselors are busy assisting students with resolving personal issues, helping them plan strategies for academic success and distributing a substantial amount of college planning information. Each grade-level counselor is scheduling individual and/or small group conferences with each of his/her students, so all students will be seen by their counselor this semester.

On Thursday, September 11th (6 p.m. in the George Cunningham ’40 Performing Arts Center) the Counselors will be hosting mandatory “Frosh Parent Counseling and Athletics Info Night”. We will give parents a preview of what to expect from the Counseling Department over the next four years and we will discuss important issues concerning Academic, Personal and College Counseling.
