Christian Brothers High School • Enter to Learn, Leave to Serve

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

“Take even more care of the education of the young people entrusted to you than if they were the children of a king.”

– St. John Baptist de La Salle

On behalf of the Christian Brothers High School community, it is my pleasure to extend a warm and heartfelt welcome as we begin the 2014-15 school year. Our faculty and staff are energized and eager to embark on our 139th year of Catholic, Lasallian education in Sacramento and grateful for the trust you have placed in us as your partners in preparing your sons and daughters for success in college and beyond. As we prepare to welcome our largest freshman class in ten years, we are proud of the fact that the school continues to thrive. This is no accident. Since 1876, the commitment and zeal of the Brothers and Lay Partners to the young people of Sacramento has not wavered. Our Catholic, Lasallian spirit calls us to challenge the varying needs and abilities of every student, develop innovative curriculum that adapts to current times and conditions, and celebrate our community of faith in all that we do. Put simply, we must give our students the tools they need in an environment that nurtures their spirits and develops their gifts.

We are also relocating the library and recreating it as a “Learning Commons” in the centrally-located space that housed the music classrooms from 2006-2014. We believe this new facility will provide a space that is optimal for both learning and community. While facilities are an important ingredient, excellent teachers, dedicated parents and conscientious students are the most important ingredients. Catholic education is a three-way partnership between parents, students and the school. As parents, you are the primary educators. As professional educators, we are proud to work with you in this sacred role and are committed to preparing your sons and daughters with the knowledge, skills and integrity to meet the challenges ahead in college and beyond. We look forward to another great year of partnership.

God bless,

INSIDE

To that end, it has been a very busy and productive summer at CB. We are welcoming a number of excellent, new faculty members to campus. Principal Mary Hesser, our assistant principals, and department chairs have been busy interviewing candidates to ensure that the newest members of our community embrace our Catholic, Lasallian mission and are dedicated in their service to our students.

As I write this, we are nearing completion of the engineering laboratory. Science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) are critical skills greatly needed in America’s workforce and highly position our students for success. Christian Brothers has outstanding programs in science, technology and math. This year, we begin the Pathway to Engineering Program. While we could not predict the level of student interest, we are pleased that 100 freshmen and sophomores signed up for engineering classes.
