Spring always brings new activity, but this year, the market is moving at its own pace. While things aren’t moving quickly, the demand for well-positioned, high-quality homes in Oakville and Mississauga is still there—it’s just more selective. Buyers are looking closely, and sellers who understand the long-term value of their property aren’t in a rush to negotiate.
This season, I’ve chosen to feature properties and experiences that reflect a clear standard— homes and experiences that are limited in number and high in demand. Angelstone Events is more than a world-class sport it’s about detail and discipline, something we value in every part of this business.
The Waterfront Standard takes a closer look at the homes that define Oakville and Mississauga’s
This issue focuses on what defines today’s luxury homes and experiences. In How Luxury Homes Are Built Is Changing, we explore what clients expect now: homes that are efficient, well-designed, and built to last. The focus has shifted from excess to smart choices—energy systems, wellness features, and layouts that work for how people live.
The Oakville Festivals of Film and Art continues to bring powerful stories to the community— films that start conversations and connect people. It’s an important part of what makes this area more than just a place to live.
The Daughter brings something fresh to Toronto—a spot where natural wine, great food, and easy conversation come together without overcomplicating it. Whether you're there for
shoreline—true lakefront properties, many with riparian rights, that offer more than views. These homes are private, few in number, and held for good reason.
In Inside The Coventry, we present a full-floor residence designed for those who want space, privacy, and something that isn’t easily found. This is not just another listing; it’s a one-ofone home in one of Oakville’s most discreet addresses. Properties like this move quietly and only to the right buyer.
The season’s just getting started, and there’s plenty still to unfold. Thanks for taking the time with us—I’m looking forward to the months ahead, and to seeing many of you along the way.
the wine, the menu, or just the atmosphere, it’s the kind of place that feels just right. I loved how this feature highlights not just what they serve, but the story and passion behind it.
And then there’s Verona and the Veneto—a place that feels like a second home every time I visit. Italy is where I go to slow down, enjoy great food, and take in the kind of beauty that never gets old. This piece captures exactly why I keep going back—there’s history, charm, and something special around every corner. If you haven’t been, it might just inspire your next trip.
This season is about living with purpose— choosing what adds real value, and enjoying the things that make life feel a little more meaningful.

There are homes that speak to a lifestyle—and then there are residences that speak for themselves. The Coventry in Downtown Oakville is one of them: understated, iconic, and in no need of an introduction.
The entire third floor of this ultra-private, four-storey building is now listed for sale. Spanning 5,750 square feet, this full-floor residence offers a rare combination of scale, clarity, and architectural intent—built for permanence. Represented by Donna Gray, Broker and Managing Partner at Cayman Marshall International Realty Inc., this is a listing that exists outside the noise of the market. It belongs in a category of its own.
“The Coventry was built with long-term residents in mind,” says Gray. “Every detail—from the semi-private elevator access to the flow of the floor plan—was designed for those looking to stay, to settle, and to enjoy a quieter form of luxury—one that doesn’t seek attention, but quietly earns respect.”
Completed in 2009 by Legend Homes, The Coventry is located at 261 Church Street, in the heart of Oakville’s historic downtown. The building contains just 12 residences across four levels, with most suites ranging between 2,435 and 3,189 square feet. The third floor—now available—is the exception: a custom, full-floor residence measuring 5,750 square feet, purpose-built for a homeowner seeking both scale and seclusion.
The building offers underground parking, a secured entry system, visitor parking, and pet restrictions, with maintenance fees covering essentials such as heat, air conditioning, building insurance, water, and common area upkeep. There’s no concierge, no gym—just a clear commitment to peace, permanence, and privacy, free from the distractions of unnecessary extras.
“This residence stands apart, not just for its size but for how deliberately it was planned,” says Gray. “The original owners worked directly with the builder to combine units and create a floor plate that’s never been repeated in the building.”
The third-floor layout is organized, not open-concept. Rooms are defined, transitions are seamless, and circulation follows the architecture. Ten-foot ceilings add volume without excess, while four exposures provide natural light throughout the day. There are no shared corridors and no adjacent residences.
The primary suite is positioned in its own quiet quarter of the residence. A lounge opens to a 285-square-foot covered terrace, while a two-sided fireplace offers subtle separation from the sleeping quarters. The suite includes a walk-around dressing room and a five-piece en-suite bath with soaker tub, large-format shower, and dual vanities—all arranged with daily use in mind.
In addition to the primary, the home includes two additional bedroom suites, each with walk-in closets and private baths. A third suite, fully independent with its own entrance, kitchenette, and full bath, functions as a self-contained guest residence, caregiver quarters, or multi-use private zone.
“That level of flexibility is something many of our clients specifically ask for,” says Gray. “Whether it’s a caregiver, a long-stay guest, or adult family members living independently, this space was built to support that need without disruption.”
Finishes throughout the residence reflect long-term thinking: integrated cabinetry, consistent millwork, solid-core doors, layered lighting, and hardwood flooring. There is no visual noise. Sightlines remain uninterrupted across main living zones.
The laundry room is a full walk-in, outfitted with a large-format sink, folding surface, custom cabinetry, and cedar-lined storage for off-season garments. The residence includes four dedicated underground parking spaces and a double-entry storage locker, along with access to a rooftop terrace exclusive to building residents.
The Coventry is located in the Old Oakville neighbourhood, just north of Lakeshore Road and a short walk to the lake. This part of town is already built out—stable, walkable, and deeply established. Independent shops, fine dining, cafes, fitness studios, galleries, and the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts are all steps away. The Oakville Club, harbourfront, and lakefront parks are within easy walking distance.
“People choose this location for its stability,” says Gray. “You’re not waiting for change. The neighbourhood is fully formed, and its value is rooted in that consistency.”
Buildings like The Coventry are rare by definition. With only twelve residences across four floors, and only one full-floor custom home, the scale and structure are fixed. There will not be more like it. And unlike larger developments, listings in buildings of this type are typically secured through private relationships.
The third floor is available now. Its square footage, layout, and long-term potential set it apart in both the local market and the broader landscape of high-end condominium living.
This is not a typical downtown condo. It is a one-of-one—a full-floor residence in a building designed for privacy, surrounded by a neighbourhood that holds its value. It offers direct elevator access, four exposures, three terraces, and no shared walls. There are no units beside. It occupies its own space—literally and structurally.
This residence was formed by combining multiple suites at the time of development—a layout unique to this floor alone. No other level in the building offers this scale, flow, or degree of separation. There is no comparable unit in The Coventry. And there never will be.
The thunder of hooves against the earth. The fluid, effortless connection between horse and rider. It’s a dance of strength and elegance—a sport where precision and passion create unforgettable moments. And nowhere is this experience more electrifying than at Angelstone Events.
Every season, the world’s most accomplished riders and remarkable horses gather at two of Ontario’s premier equestrian venues: Caledon Equestrian Park in Palgrave and Angelstone Equestrian Park in Erin. Caledon Equestrian Park, the chosen venue for the 2015 Pan American Games, offers a pristine stage for competitors and enthusiasts alike. Meanwhile, Angelstone Equestrian Park, nestled just outside the town of Erin, provides a picturesque backdrop where skill, artistry, and excitement converge.
Founded in 2011 by acclaimed Canadian show jumping rider Keean White, Angelstone Events quickly established itself as a destination where excellence in the sport is celebrated. White saw an opportunity to elevate Canadian equestrian sport to international standards. “The equestrian industry in Eastern Canada had very weak venues, and was not up to par with the rest of the world,” he explains. “We saw an opportunity to raise the bar for the sport in Eastern Canada.”
White’s own journey—from riding at age ten to competing on the global stage—infuses Angelstone with an athlete’s passion and vision. “I’ve always loved sports,” he shares. “I wanted to make a career in pro sports. I played basketball, hockey, and rode horses as a kid. My best chance to be a pro athlete was equestrian, so I stuck with that.” That decision led him to international success, including a gold medal at the 2003 North American Young Riders Championships and recognition as Equine Canada’s Athlete of the Year. He trained under Olympic champion Eric Lamaze and represented Canada at the 2009 FEI World Cup Finals in Las Vegas.
Arriving at Angelstone Events feels like stepping into a world crafted to captivate. The energy is palpable from the moment you approach the grounds. Rows of cars glide into neatly organized parking areas, with cheerful attendants ensuring the arrival experience is seamless. As you make your way toward the main rings, the sound of applause and the occasional thundering hooves signal that something remarkable is happening.
Every visit to Angelstone is a chance to create your perfect day. The options are endless. For those seeking the most exclusive experience, the VIP Pavilion offers premier seating, gourmet dining, and handcrafted cocktails. Overlooking the ring from the best vantage points, guests are treated to an atmosphere of sophistication and comfort. Here, the social energy is as engaging as the competition itself.
Equally inviting is the hillside picnic area—a relaxed, picturesque spot where families and friends gather to enjoy the day’s events. The view is spectacular, allowing guests to enjoy world-class show jumping in a welcoming, easygoing setting. Bring a blanket, settle in with your favourite snacks, and let the brilliance of the sport unfold before your eyes.
Keean emphasizes how the event has evolved into more than a sporting competition—it’s a night out, an experience. “The atmosphere at our events is a great night out. There is great music, food, entertainment, and the best equestrian horses and riders in the world. It’s become an incredible night out for a family, or even a great date night event.”
Angelstone’s Stewart’s Super Saturdays takes this inclusivity even further, offering complimentary parking and admission to make world-class show jumping accessible to everyone. Families can enjoy live music, special performances, and activities designed to entertain and inspire. “We always have free options to attend our events. It’s very important the community has access to our parks, and to have a great experience,” says White. It’s not uncommon to see children excitedly pointing out their favourite horses, or friends gathering for a casual yet exhilarating day out.
The experience doesn’t end when the event does. Many guests choose to extend
their visit by exploring the charming town of Erin. With boutique accommodations ranging from luxurious bed-and-breakfasts to contemporary hotels, visitors can unwind after a thrilling day. Whether it’s a glass of wine enjoyed on a sun-drenched patio or a leisurely stroll through the town’s picturesque streets, the local hospitality enhances the overall experience.
The 2024 season at Angelstone promises an exceptional lineup of show jumping, family-friendly gatherings, and exclusive experiences. From the adrenaline of the Grand Prix to the inviting energy of relaxed weekends, every occasion offers a unique way to enjoy the sport. The beauty of Angelstone is its ability to cater to every visitor’s idea of a remarkable day.
For those who cherish the sport itself, the schedule of high-profile tournaments leaves nothing to be desired. From amateur classes to the pinnacle of competition at the Grand Prix level, every event is crafted to showcase the incredible skill and dedication of horse and rider. As evening descends, the elegance of show jumping under the lights adds yet another layer to the spectacle.
But Angelstone is about more than the competition. It’s about the experience. It’s the shared excitement of a crowd captivated by a flawless performance. It’s the conversations that flow over cocktails in the VIP Pavilion. It’s the sound of children’s laughter mingling with applause on a perfect Saturday afternoon. It’s the memory of an unforgettable day that lingers long after you’ve left.
Don’t miss your chance to experience Angelstone Events at its finest. Plan your visit, secure your VIP experience, or bring the family for an unforgettable day.

Luxury living is evolving at an unprecedented pace. The homes of 2025 are no longer defined by size or spectacle—they are deliberate reflections of intelligence, innovation, and sustainability. For those building or renovating, the mandate is clear: design a home that leads the future, or risk being left behind.
Whether you’re crafting a lakeside retreat or a contemporary estate in the city, this is your opportunity to create something extraordinary. A home should perform at the highest level while captivating and inspiring. Here’s how to ensure your property stands apart and remains exceptional for years to come.
Every exceptional home begins with its architecture. The finest designs create a natural harmony between the home and its environment, shaping how people live and interact.
Glass walls erase the boundary between indoors and outdoors, inviting panoramic views and fresh air into the home. Courtyards and terraces bring light and greenery into the heart of the living space, while materials like stone and timber provide a sense of permanence.
“The architecture of today’s homes isn’t just about aesthetics— it’s about creating spaces that endure,” says Joel Atkinson, owner of Profile Custom Homes. “Our clients want homes that perform efficiently and will remain relevant for the next 15+ years.”
As architecture establishes the framework of the home, its sustainability determines its longevity and impact on the future.
Sustainability is no longer optional—it’s the foundation of every modern luxury home. Thoughtful design ensures homes conserve energy, preserve resources, and maintain comfort without compromise.
Geothermal heating and solar energy systems regulate temperature efficiently while minimizing environmental impact. Water recycling technologies and reclaimed materials such as wood and carbon-neutral concrete add durability and sophistication.
“Every custom home we build today incorporates energy efficiency and sustainability,” Atkinson shares. “By 2030, net-zero homes will be the standard. We’re already designing homes that meet these goals, ensuring they’ll remain relevant well into the future.”
With sustainability as a guiding principle, technology steps in to transform the home into a seamless, intelligent system.
The smartest homes today don’t just respond to commands—they anticipate needs. Technology has evolved into an intuitive ecosystem, adapting effortlessly to the lives of its owners. Imagine waking to shades rising with the sunrise, floors warming as you step out of bed, and lighting that adjusts to your natural rhythms.
Kitchens equipped with AI-driven systems suggest recipes, manage inventory, and optimize cooking times. These innovations create homes that elevate daily living to an art.
“Clients aren’t focused on flashy features anymore—they want homes that are comfortable, efficient, and built to last,” Atkinson explains. “It’s about investing in systems that enhance their lifestyle while supporting long-term comfort.”
As technology simplifies and enhances living, wellness features ensure the home becomes a sanctuary for health and vitality.
Wellness has become the centerpiece of luxury living. Homes today are built to nurture the body and mind, offering spaces that restore and rejuvenate.
Air purification systems filter allergens and pollutants, creating pristine indoor environments. Circadian lighting enhances focus during the day and supports restful sleep at night. Dedicated wellness suites, featuring infrared saunas, hydrotherapy pools, and meditation rooms, offer serene escapes within the home.
A wellness-first approach creates balance, enabling the home to serve not just as a place to live but as a place to thrive. This philosophy extends to every corner of the home, including the kitchen—a space where connection and creativity come together.
Kitchens
The kitchen has evolved into the heart of every home. It’s a space for connection, creativity, and performance.
Multi-zone layouts provide spaces for both entertaining and professional-grade cooking. Smart refrigeration systems keep ingredients fresh, while intuitive appliances ensure flawless results. Every detail, from technology to design, inspires a seamless blend of functionality and artistry.
Beyond the kitchen, other essential spaces—such as closets and garages—are also being elevated to new levels of sophistication.
Storage in luxury homes is no longer just practical—it’s personal and refined. These spaces are designed to showcase and protect what matters most.
Closets are curated like galleries, featuring museum-grade lighting and climate control to preserve fine fabrics and collections. Garages become polished showrooms for collectible vehicles, complete with hydraulic lifts and custom displays.
“Clients are focusing on better structures and long-term investment,” says Atkinson. “Finishes can come later, but the foundation, systems, and storage must be exceptional from the start.”
As interiors are perfected, outdoor spaces are designed to mirror their elegance and functionality, creating harmony across the property.
Outdoor spaces are no longer secondary; they are vital extensions of the home. Thoughtful design ensures these areas are usable year-round, from summer gatherings to cozy winter evenings.
Heated terraces, retractable pergolas, and infinity-edge pools with fire features create environments that balance style and practicality. Professional-grade outdoor kitchens make hosting effortless, while landscaping enhances privacy and visual appeal.
With the property fully integrated, the final layer of luxury comes from security systems that offer both discretion and peace of mind.
In today’s world, luxury homes demand advanced security solutions. These systems combine innovation with seamless integration to protect without disrupting aesthetics.
“We’re seeing clients invest $25,000 to $30,000 in security systems,” Atkinson notes. “From biometric access points to reinforced glass and smart surveillance, these features are becoming standard in high-end homes.”
Biometric access systems, AI-enhanced surveillance, and concealed safe rooms ensure privacy and protection, giving homeowners complete peace of mind.
This commitment to security reflects the importance of building homes that adapt to future needs while remaining timeless.
The most exceptional homes are those designed to evolve. Spaces must remain functional and inspiring as lifestyles change, ensuring the home grows with its owners.
Guest suites can transform into wellness retreats or creative workspaces. Modular layouts ensure flexibility, making the home as relevant in 15 years as it is today.
“Homeowners are thinking long-term,” says Atkinson. “They’re investing in homes that grow with their families and adapt to future demands.”
The homes of 2025 set the bar for what modern luxury demands: intention, innovation, and the ability to endure. Building a home today is an opportunity to lead, to push boundaries, and to create something truly extraordinary.
Building a home today is about more than meeting expectations—it’s about setting the standard.
ANYTHING LESS SIMPLY ISN’T WORTH BUILDING.

Beyond Juliet’s Balcony—A Romantic Journey Through Verona, Lake Garda, and the Timeless Town of Soave
Ah, Verona. Nicknamed the “City of Love,” it is perhaps the most romantic city in all of Italy. Often overlooked by tourists in favour of larger venues such as Venice and Florence, Verona is a destination unto itself vibrant, alluring, rich with history and great shopping. It will keep visitors occupied for as many action-packed days as they have to spare.
When you visit, you’ll also want to tour the fabulous surrounding countryside, stopping to take in nearby Lake Garda, or have a glass of vino classico in Soave, an enchanting walled medieval city renowned for its fine wines.
Located on the Adige River in the Veneto province of northeastern Italy, Verona was founded in the 1st century B.C. The city is surrounded by ancient walls and fortifications, built over a 2000-year period, earning it the honour of being a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is home to the world-famous Arena di Verona, a Roman amphitheater seating 30,000 that is still in use today, as well as the Piazza del Erbe, once the town’s forum during the time of the Roman Empire, and the Basilica di San Zeno, an exquisite church dating back to the 5th century and renowned for its exquisite Romanesque architecture. It is said that its crypt was where Romeo and Juliet were married, but more on that later.
But there is so much more to be discovered. Come along as we take you to some of our favorite spots in Verona and beyond.
The first stop is the Casa di Giulietta, Juliet’s house, on the Via Capello, where, after walking down an arched passageway, you enter a private courtyard. There you will find a life-sized statue of Juliet and the famous balcony from which she was courted by Romeo. If you were lucky enough to visit prior to 2014, you would have noticed that the statue’s right breast is shiny from being rubbed by tourists hoping to find luck in love. But alas, due to damage done by too much exposure, the original bronze statue by Nereo Costantini was replaced by a replica. Back then, you also would have been able to write on the walls of Juliet’s house, but now they are covered with panels for protection.
Just outside the walls of the old city lies Juliet’s tomb, a red marble sarcophagus located in an underground crypt of the former Capuchin monastery of San Francisco al Corso, a 13th century Franciscan monastery, which now houses the Museum of Frescoes. A monument to enduring love, it is said to be where Juliet died.
As romantic as all this sounds, you should be reminded that these two lovers are fictitious. Juliet’s house, a 14th century Gothic building, was the original home of the Cappello family, who may have been the inspiration for the Capulets of Romeo and Juliet. It was purchased by the City of Verona
in 1905 and the balcony, fashioned from a 17th century sarcophagus, was added in 1936. Maybe that’s why Juliet’s tomb has no lid and is empty!
If you have the good fortune of being in Verona between late June and early September, you can take in an unparalleled evening of open-air opera at the Arena, whose natural sound is so perfect that no amplification is required. But you can always take a tour, either guided or not. During your day out, don’t overlook the Teatro Romano across the Adige at the foot of the Hill of St. Peter. Dating back to the 1st century B.C, it was originally an active theatre, until it was
entirely buried beneath squatters’ huts. Excavated in the mid-19th century and then restored, it is a wonderful venue for jazz concerts and modern dance. While there, visit the Archaeological Museum located alongside the theatre in the convent of St. Gerolamo. Make sure to climb the ancient 200-year-old staircase behind the theater you will be rewarded with spectacular views of the old city of Verona from St. Peter’s Castle.
Before you hit the road to explore the surrounding area, treat yourself to a shopping trip on the Via Mazzini, just a few minutes’ walk from the Arena. Paved with marble, it is home to world-class stores such as Max
Mara, Gucci and Louis Vuitton. Afterwards, stop for a caffe latte at one of the charming cafés lining the street.
Lake Garda makes for a fantastic day trip from Verona, a mere 20 miles if you’re driving and just half an hour by train. Once there, you can get from one town to the next by ferry, or, if you have wheels, you can drive 100 miles around its circumference in as little as three hours. There is so much to see and do, you could devote your entire time in Italy to exploring the charming towns encircling the lake’s picturesque shores.
The largest lake in Italy, Garda has a history that goes all the way back to 300 B.C., when it became part of the Roman Empire. It features flatter land on its south shores, and more mountainous on the north, which lies at the foothills of the Alps, ideal for growing grapes and olives.
Here are the highlights of some of the 25 enchanting towns that surround the
Bardolino: A charming village, famous for its annual wine festival as well as its abundant vineyards and olive groves.
Garda: Home to Mermaid’s Bay in Punta San Vigilio, one of the lake’s most beautiful beaches, it also features the Pieve of Santa Maria Assunta, one of the oldest churches in the area, originally built in the 10th century.
Limone: Explore its lemon groves, dramatic cliffs, and gorgeous lakefront promenade.
Malcesine: After wandering through its medieval streets, take the cable car to top of Monte Baldo.
Riva: Sitting on the northern tip of Lake Garda, this town boasts ancient walls, gates and fortress remains from medieval times. You can visit the Museo Alto Garda inside the fortress Rocca, complete with moat and drawbridge, or climb the 165 wooden stairs to the top of Torre Apponale for a fabulous view of the city and the lake.
Sirmione: Set on a peninsula, this mediaeval town features a castle, Roman ruins and thermal baths.
Desenzano: Here you can explore the Scaligero Castle from the 15th century or visit one of the town’s three exceptionally beautiful beaches. Peschiera: The closest town to Verona and only 15 minutes by train, this UNESCO World Heritage Site offers well-preserved fortresses and a charming historic centre.
Now it’s time to move on to Soave, just a 25-minute, 20-mile drive from Verona on A4. It’s also accessible by train, bus and car-sharing services. This hilly terrain is, of course, where the famous Soave wine comes from. If you happen to be in town on the third Sunday of September, you can attend its Grape Festival, the oldest in the region dedicated to wine it will turn 100 in 2029!
Soave is completely enclosed by medieval walls. Once you step inside, you will feel as if time has stopped in the Middle Ages. Its single main street is lined with lovely wine bars and cafes where you might want to stop and take in the rarified atmosphere. Be sure to try some local Soave ham or Sopressa di Brenton, a popular cured sausage.
Soave’s main draw is the Scaligero castle, built in the Middle Ages, which can easily be reached on foot. Open to visitors year-round, it dates back to the start of the 10th century and remains one of the best surviving examples in the Veneto region. And if you still have time, you can visit the Cathedral of San Lorenzo from the 1700s or go further back in time by visiting the 1200s Church of San Giorgio.
Whether you’re drawn by the legend of star-crossed lovers, the allure of open-air opera, or the simple pleasure of sipping wine inside the walls of a medieval village, Verona is a place that will linger in your the heart long after you leave. This city and its surroundings offer a perfect blend of history, beauty, and romance—a dream Italian holiday come true!
Light glints off rows of bottles, each alive with energy—raw, expressive, and deeply connected to the land that shaped them. The air hums with conversation, punctuated by the quiet pop of a cork. There’s an unspoken rhythm to it all—the way the wine is poured, the way flavours unfold, the way everything feels intentional—like an open invitation to indulge.

Welcome to The Daughter. A wine bar, restaurant, and shop unlike anything else in Toronto, The Daughter is a destination for those who crave something exceptional. Nestled in the Davisville neighbourhood at 1560A Bayview Ave, it’s where natural wine takes center stage—available not just by the glass, but by the bottle, mix pack, or case so you can bring the experience home, up to the cottage, or to the table with friends. Every bottle is hand-selected for character, purity, and a story worth sharing. Whether you’re looking for something bold and structured, crisp and mineral-driven, or light and effervescent, the team will guide you toward your perfect match— no guesswork required.
The Daughter is built on the philosophy that the best wines are those made with integrity and intention. Every bottle on its shelves comes from vineyards that embrace organic farming, minimal intervention, and a deep respect for the land, allowing the wine’s true character to shine. The same
attention to detail extends to the menu—elegant yet effortless, designed to complement without overshadowing. From a thoughtfully curated bottle shop to an ever-evolving by-the-glass selection, The Daughter offers a wine experience that lingers long after the last sip.
At the heart of The Daughter is Marissa Goldstein, whose approach to wine and hospitality is rooted in experience, instinct, and an appreciation for craftsmanship.
Goldstein’s path to hospitality was anything but conventional. Raised in a home where the kitchen was central to daily life, she developed an early respect for food and the way it brings people together. A degree in marketing and communications led her to law school, where she passed the BAR in New York before building a career in property management and commercial real estate. Yet, through every shift, her connection to food, sustainability, and hospitality remained.
Encouraged by her husband, she pursued culinary training at The International Culinary Center, choosing a farm-to-table-focused program in partnership with Blue Hill Stone Barns in Upstate New York. After graduating, she worked at Blue Hill Stone Barns, where she studied organic agriculture and developed a deep appreciation for ingredient integrity—lessons that would later shape The Daughter.
It was in New York’s dining scene that her understanding of wine changed. The wines she was drawn to had a common thread—organic farming, minimal interference, and a clarity of expression that felt both alive and deeply tied to place. The more she explored, the clearer her vision became.
Toronto needed a space where natural wine could be experienced in a setting that was both polished and welcoming. When the time came to create something of her own, she knew exactly what it should be.
Every element of The Daughter has been carefully considered. Goldstein worked with architect Andria Fong of YY Architecture and designer Raelan Trevis to create a space that allows the wine to take center stage. The lighting highlights subtle variations in colour, textures add warmth without distraction, and the entire setting is designed to enhance—not compete with—the experience of drinking and dining.
The by-the-glass selection changes often, with 15 to 20 bottles open at any time, offering an ever-evolving range of styles. The menu follows the same philosophy: seasonal, balanced, and intentional, crafted to pair harmoniously with the wines. The all-day menu includes cheese and charcuterie, smoked salmon, beef tartare, sausage rolls, salads, sandwiches, and sharing plates. In the evening, guests can enjoy dinner specials such as black cod, lobster, and a standout beef cheek dish—each designed to highlight the purity of its ingredients, allowing both the food and the wine to be appreciated at their best.
“There’s a moment when you taste natural wine for the first time and realize—this is how it’s supposed to be. It’s not manipulated, not stripped of its character. It’s alive, layered, and deeply connected to where it comes from. At The Daughter, we create a space for people to experience that difference, to slow down, to taste something real,” says Marissa Goldstein.
Beyond its daily service, The Daughter is also a place for gathering. The private lounge offers a setting unlike any other, perfect for birthdays, corporate events, and curated wine tastings. Outfitted with one-of-a-kind vintage chairs and couches, mirrored coffee tables, mid-century modern credenzas, and a record player, it offers an atmosphere that feels more like an intimate living room than a traditional event space.
For those who want to bring The Daughter home, the in-house retail shop offers a carefully curated selection of natural wines, with online ordering available at www. thedaughter.ca. Whether you’re picking up a bottle for a quiet evening, a case to stock your cottage, or a mix pack to explore new styles, The Daughter makes natural wine more accessible than ever.
Settle in, explore, and enjoy wine without pretense. Each bottle has been chosen with purpose, every glass offering something distinct—whether familiar or unexpected. It’s not just about what’s being poured, but the experience of slowing down, tasting something real, and sharing it in good company.
Visit in person at 1560A Bayview Ave, Toronto, in the Davisville neighbourhood, call (647) 348-9928, or explore the selection online at www.thedaughter.ca.
There is a reason why some of the wealthiest families in Canada choose to live along the shores of Lake Ontario—not merely for the view, but for the rarefied lifestyle only this unique stretch of waterfront can offer. This is a place where stillness and vitality coexist, where the pulse of the city and the quiet hum of nature are woven seamlessly together. In Southern Ontario’s most coveted communities, waterfront living is more than a privilege—it is a declaration.
Imagine your mornings beginning with the gentle sounds of lapping waves, and the crisp air mingling with cedar and stone. Sunlight pours across glass-walled estates, warming terraces where coffee is savoured alongside the graceful passage of sailboats. As night falls, the lake transforms into a mirror, capturing the glow of exquisite architecture against the backdrop of a distant city skyline.
For those who demand more than just luxury, riparian rights offer the ultimate privilege. These rights grant homeowners unfettered access to the water, whether it’s docking a yacht, constructing a boathouse, or preserving an uninterrupted connection between land and lake. With the rise of
high-net-worth individuals seeking exceptional residences, these waterfront estates remain in a class of their own.
118 in Oakville. 98 in Mississauga. That’s it. Riparian lots with true lakefront access— where the land meets water without interruption. This isn’t just real estate. It’s status. It’s privacy, permanence, and presence— reserved for the few who move quickly enough to claim it.
What truly sets this lifestyle apart is the synergy between serenity and accessibility. Residents of these neighbourhoods enjoy a seamless connection to the best of the Greater Toronto Area—world-class dining, luxury shopping, private clubs, top-tier schools, International Airports, and major business hubs. Whether it’s a swift drive to the Financial District or a leisurely day at a nearby private golf club, every experience is within reach yet perfectly distanced.
Opportunities to own one of these estates are few and far between, and when one becomes available, hesitation is not an option. The true luxury here isn’t just the waterfront location; it’s the rare chance to claim such a property before someone else does.
Among these prized communities, Oakville stands out as the crown jewel of waterfront living. Its presence and exclusivity have long attracted Canada’s most prosperous households, drawn to a lifestyle where privacy, comfort, and accessibility are seamlessly integrated. Streets like Bayview Road, Wolfdale Avenue, Westdale Avenue, Holyrood, Rymar Place, Argyle, and Bel Air Drive offer a lifestyle built around privacy, the waterfront’s natural beauty, and impeccable taste.
Oakville’s history also plays a role in the appeal of its waterfront properties. As a town originally settled in the 19th century, Oakville was once a bustling port town, trading goods along Lake Ontario. Today, that maritime heritage blends with modern luxury. Many of Oakville’s most prestigious estates are located on land that has been passed down through generations, adding a layer of historical significance to the property. For residents, owning a piece of Oakville’s history is just as important as enjoying its breathtaking views.
Homes in Oakville are as diverse as they are impressive, ranging from stately Georgian and Colonial designs to contemporary architectural masterpieces. Each property is intentionally designed to maximize lake views, providing a living experience that feels timeless and fresh. Homes in this area start at around $2 million for lot value while custom built estates can exceed $30 million. Whether it’s seclusion, panoramic lake views, or a rare connection to nature, each property offers a distinct appeal.
Living along Oakville’s waterfront goes beyond owning a remarkable home. It’s about belonging to a select community where privacy and prestige come standard, and the address alone speaks volumes. From private gatherings at the Oakville Club to exceptional dining and cultural events, Oakville offers a world where privacy, comfort, and accessibility come together in everyday life.
Mississauga’s waterfront communities, particularly in neighbourhoods like Port Credit and Lorne Park, have also become a major destination for luxury real estate. Streets like Ben Machree, Bob-Link, Waters Edge, Whittier, and Cumberland boast some of the most impressive properties along Lake Ontario. Only some of these homes come with riparian rights, offering residents exclusive, direct access to the water—a key feature for those seeking a truly exceptional waterfront lifestyle. With only 98 properties in Mississauga holding these coveted rights, these homes represent a rare and secure investment opportunity.
While Oakville boasts a rich, historical legacy, Mississauga has become a dynamic hub for modern living. The city’s growth into a thriving center for business, culture, and luxury is reflected in its waterfront properties, where innovative architectural designs meet cutting-edge amenities. From elegant, traditional homes to striking, minimalist modern estates, the diversity in style ensures that each property takes full advantage of the sweeping lake views. This modern approach to waterfront living combines the benefits of natural beauty with a sense of openness, while still maintaining the privacy and tranquility that makes the area so sought-after. Whether you’re drawn to the quiet of the water or the easy access to city conveniences, Mississauga’s waterfront communities offer a lifestyle that blends serenity with modern living.
Similar to Oakville, homes in Mississauga’s waterfront communities start at around $2 million for properties that are ready for redevelopment, and they can easily surpass $10 million for custom-built, turnkey homes. Mississauga’s waterfront offers some of Ontario’s best private schools and is conveniently located near major amenities, making it an ideal place for those who value both privacy and proximity to the GTA’s best offerings.
The luxury waterfront market along Lake Ontario has seen significant growth in recent years, with more buyers drawn to the area’s natural beauty, privacy, and exceptional living. Donna Gray and Natalie Costello, Managing Partners at Cayman Marshall, who each bring decades of experience in the high-end estate market, note that the demand for these properties reflects a desire for both peaceful surroundings and access to the best the region has to offer. Over the years, Donna and Natalie have played a key role in securing some of the most desirable and iconic properties in Oakville and Mississauga, building strong relationships based on their deep knowledge of the market and their commitment to meeting the needs of their clients.
With over $300 million in private, off-market listings, Donna Gray and Natalie Costello have built a reputation for connecting local sellers with international buyers—an expertise further enhanced by their North office in Muskoka. Their vast network and global reach ensure that exclusive waterfront properties are showcased to the right audience, offering clients access to opportunities rarely found on the open market.
“These homes represent long-term investments, often passed down through generations,” says Donna Gray. “Given the limited availability of waterfront properties, partnering with professionals who understand both the local market and international demand is essential.” Natalie Costello adds, “Our clients trust us not just because we live in these communities, but because of our ability to connect them with buyers from around the globe.”
For those interested in exploring these exceptional waterfront properties or considering selling their own, Cayman Marshall International Realty offers exceptional tailored real estate experiences, backed by access to private listings not available through traditional channels. To request access to these exclusive opportunities or to discuss selling your home, contact us today at www.caymanmarshallsouth.com.
From Foundation to Feeling: How Hue Became Home. Some houses check all the boxes—bright, open, beautifully finished. But sometimes, even when everything looks right, something feels off. That’s where Jennylyn found herself after moving into her home on Lucia Drive in Niagara Falls. Everything about the house worked on paper, but it didn’t quite feel like hers.
“I didn’t want to renovate,” Jennylyn shares. “I just wanted to feel like I had chosen this space, not just stepped into it.”
Instead of tearing down walls or replacing fixtures, Jennylyn took a different path. She turned to the most accessible, yet often underestimated design tool: paint.
Her journey started small, in the bathroom, where a soft, hand-stencilled pattern gave quiet character to the walls. Then, her children’s room came alive with bold, playful stripes—creating energy and grounding the space in personality. In the guest room, a single wall of rich, deep colour brought what was once neutral and forgettable into sharp, cozy focus. Even an old dresser, tired and overlooked, was revived with a fresh coat, becoming a meaningful part of her home’s story.
The structure didn’t change—but everything about the way the home felt did. Jennylyn knows colour. As CEO of Fusion Mineral Paint, she’s built her career around helping others see paint not as an afterthought, but as a foundation.
“ “
MOVES
she says. Fusion’s Canadian-made formula is low-prep, durable, and versatile, designed to work from walls to furniture—and even exteriors.
And it’s not just her city home that’s seen this transformation. Her Muskoka cottage was the next canvas. A classic lakehouse, heavy with wood from ceiling to floor—rich browns that, while traditional, made the space feel closed in and dated. But Jennylyn didn’t want to erase its history. She wanted to enhance it.
Through thoughtful, lighter tones, and careful refreshes of trim and cabinetry, the cottage opened up—breathable and bright, yet still deeply rooted in its rustic charm. “We didn’t need to start over,” she says. “We just needed to see what was already there, differently.”
For homeowners thinking about selling, this approach does more than beautify—it adds value. Fresh, well-chosen paint can shift how a space photographs, how it shows, and ultimately, how it’s priced.
Blair Chami, REALTOR® with Cayman Marshall International Realty Inc., sees this all the time: “Homes that feel finished, that feel lived in—they’re the ones that sell. Buyers want to walk in and feel it. Paint does that.”
Jennylyn didn’t change the bones of her home. She changed its spirit. Every room aligned. The light, the colours, the details—they all came together to reflect who she is.
Her advice? Start small. “Pick one space. Change how it feels. The rest will follow.”
Because sometimes, it’s not about changing everything. It’s about changing just enough to see your home in a whole new light. And the first brushstroke? That’s where the transformation begins.
The Oakville Festivals of Film & Art (OFFA) has emerged as a landmark celebration of creative connection, and the transformative power of storytelling. As it enters its 12th year, with 7 years of honouring National Indigenous Peoples Day and 4 years of the incredible creative energy of the EY Gala, this festival has grown Into a defining moment on the arts calendar where stories come to life inviting audiences to experience them in unforgettable ways. From June 18th to 25th, 2025, audiences are invited to immerse themselves in stories that transcend the screen and leave an indelible impact.

But the festival’s reach doesn’t end there. For the first time, it extends to Mississauga, inviting a new wave of audiences to experience the OFFA’s magic on June 22nd, 2025. This expansion highlights the festival’s commitment to accessibility and growth, all while preserving its heart at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts (OCPA). It’s within this iconic venue where the true power of storytelling is felt—where creativity, conversation, and connection thrive.
OFFA (Oakville Festivals of Film & Art) is celebrated for its focus on great storytelling and social issues that matter to the community. “OFFA has been a truly unique experience, and I can’t wait for next year!” shared an audience member from last year’s survey. “The Friday Gala, The Great Salish Heist, was such a heartfelt and funny film that shed light on some really important Indigenous issues that I knew very little about, in a way that was serious but made me laugh at the same time. This festival is a treasure for our community.”
The heart of the festival lies in its Gala films—stories that challenge perceptions, evoke emotion, and offer audiences a window into lives they might never have known. This year, two powerful films anchor the festival:
SWEET SUMMER POW WOW (Saturday Gala–National Indigenous Peoples Day): Directed by First Nations comedian, actor, and screenwriter Darrell Dennis, who hails from the Secwepemc Nation in BC, this romantic drama beautifully captures the complexities of cultural heritage and personal dreams. Tatyana Rose Baptiste, Joshua Odjick, and the legendary Graham Greene deliver performances that feel visceral and emotional, their artistry creating an unfiltered portrayal of love, resilience, and community. The film’s impact reaches beyond the screen with a ceremonial Pow Wow happening alongside the Gala—a stunning celebration of Indigenous dance, music, and storytelling that will leave audiences mesmerized. It’s an experience designed to honour Indigenous culture with grace and authenticity.
STEALING THE SKY (Thursday Night Opening EY Gala): From the creative brilliance of iconic Canadian actor and director Megan Follows and writer/actor Marie Dame comes a comedy that masterfully intertwines humor, humanity, and complexity. Starring Marie Dame, Alex Karzis, and Megan Follows, Stealing the Sky is a vivid exploration of family, redemption, and the messiness of human connection. The sophisticated storytelling is preceded by a beautiful song from the film’s gifted composers Brent Bodrug and Bryn Scott Grimes. Brent will play a beautiful song from the film, accompanied by the silky voice of his daughter, Toronto singer Siobhan Brodrug. Like the past eleven years of OFFA Galas, the unforgettable music and heartfelt storytelling resonate long after the credits roll, setting the stage for an elegant after-party at Ce Soir Restaurant. Conversations flow as creatives and festival-goers revel in the night, sharing inspiration and celebrating the artistry they’ve just witnessed.
For Wendy Donnan, Executive Director
and Lead Programmer of OFFA, the festival is a passion project that continues to grow in meaningful ways. “OFFA is the only organization of its kind in Oakville, and people love our focus on great storytelling and social issues that matter in our community. Our slogan for this year is ‘Where Local Hearts Meet Global Stories,’ which really does encapsulate all that OFFA does—we bring the best cinema in Canada and around the world to Oakville, while offering local and emerging filmmakers an opportunity to show their work and talk to audiences about it.”
The Oakville Film Festival (OFFA) ignites dialogue, fosters collaboration, and opens minds. The four-day industry summit from June 19th to June 22nd is a meeting ground for visionaries, creators, and innovators eager to shape the future of film. This dynamic space encourages creativity to thrive and connections to flourish.
On Saturday, the OCPA becomes a stage for storytelling at its finest. Screenings designed to elevate voices often unheard and perspectives rarely shown create a pro-
found experience that crescendos with the breathtaking presentation of Sweet Summer Pow Wow. An after-party follows, alive with the energy of Indigenous music, art, and celebration.
The festival’s expansion to Mississauga this year offers audiences a fresh perspective, inviting them to join the conversation. And when the festival reaches its finale on Monday night at Film.Ca Cinemas, it leaves an indelible impression—proof that storytelling’s power to inspire, challenge, and unite remains as potent as ever.
For those who want to be fully immersed in the festival’s magic, the Red Carpet VIP Pass delivers a tailored experience designed to elevate every moment. The VIP pass grants access to all Gala screenings and celebrations, including the EY Gala and after party, the National Indigenous Peoples Day Gala, and Mocktail Party, and the Friday night International Gala, ensuring guests are part of the most anticipated events from start to finish.
The perks extend beyond the screenings. VIP guests enjoy six tickets to redeem at any live or virtual screening, a custom-designed OFFA 2025 t-shirt, and a special invitation to the OFFA 2025 Launch Event. Early-bird pricing is available at $161.49 until May 31st.
The Oakville Film Festival draws you in from the moment it begins, compelling you to engage with stories that matter, to see the world through fresh eyes, and to feel something profound. Whether captivated by the powerful storytelling of Sweet Summer Pow Wow, the witty charm of Stealing the Sky, or the cultural celebrations that leave a lasting impression, this festival offers something exceptional.
Secure your place at the Oakville Film & Arts Festival 2025 and discover stories that stay with you long after the final credits roll. Festival passes and tickets are available now at www.offa.ca.
Canadians are choosing to stay closer to home—not out of hesitation, but out of preference.
In a 2018 edition of Cayman Marshall Magazine, I shared a theory: that U.S. political dynamics—particularly under President Trump—could influence the direction of Muskoka’s real estate and tourism markets. At the time, it sparked conversation. Today, it’s unfolding in real time.
Now, four months into Trump’s second term and amid a global climate marked by volatility and uncertainty, we’re watching the ripple become a current. And once again, Muskoka is right in the middle of it.
This summer, Muskoka is seeing a significant surge in interest, particularly from U.S. travelers and investors. Shortterm rental bookings have more than doubled. Local tourism is up. American buyers—encouraged by a favourable exchange rate and a growing desire for long-term security—are re-engaging with this market. At the same time, Canadians are choosing to stay closer to home—not out of hesitation, but out of preference.
That renewed demand is already making an impact. The economic lift we’re seeing across Muskoka echoes the unexpected boom during the pandemic—only this time, it’s not reactionary. It’s intentional. And it’s building.
The Old Farmer’s Almanac is forecasting a warmer-than-average summer, with the hottest stretches arriving in June, July, and again in mid- to late August. As urban heat intensifies, so does Muskoka’s pull—cooler air, clean water, and the kind of natural escape that has become increasingly rare and highly valued.
Layered against a backdrop of trade tension, election uncertainty, and global market fluctuations, high-net-worth individuals are recalibrating their priorities. They’re looking for places that offer more than beauty—they want stability, privacy, and strategic investment potential. Muskoka delivers all of it.
With inventory already tight, this influx of interest is setting the stage for a fast-moving, competitive summer. Buyers are decisive, sellers are in control, and deals are happening at pace.
It’s the kind of acceleration we’ve seen before—each time political tension builds beyond our borders, Muskoka gains clarity. The more unpredictable the world feels, the more this place rises in value—not just financially, but personally.
And whether you love or hate Trump, one thing is clear: he always seems to be good for Muskoka.
If you already own here, your property may carry more strategic weight than you think. And if you’ve been watching from the sidelines, wondering when to enter the market—this is your moment.
If 2018 was a theory, 2025 is confirmation.
Wishing everyone a fantastic summer—see you on the lake!
