Founded in 1937 and headquartered in Fargo, Cass County Electric Cooperative (CCEC) is a not-for-profit, member-owned electric distribution system delivering power to around 60,000 accounts. CCEC employs just under 100 full-time employees at a variety of service centers in a 10-county area in southeastern North Dakota. CCEC has an all-power requirements contract with Minnkota Power Cooperative, our wholesale power supplier. Minnkota is headquartered in Grand Forks, N.D. and produces all of their power in North Dakota.

CCEC Apprentice Program
What does an electrical lineworker do?
After graduating and starting your career, you will be answering the call to power our members’ lives, operating, maintaining, and constructing a safe and reliable electrical grid. Every day is filled with new challenges and responsibilities including:
• Maintaining, operating, and constructing high-voltage lines and equipment
• Working in elevated positions using the most up-to-date safety equipment
• Being a first responder to restore power after a natural disaster and incidental outages
• Operating heavy equipment such as bucket trucks and digger derricks
• Building the smart grid and intelligent grid of the future
• Being an involved member of the community
Who is the ideal candidate?
• Problem-solver

What is it?
• United States Department of Labor Appreticeship Program
• On-the-job experience as an apprentice lineworker
• Following program completion, qualified individuals earn a Journeyman Lineworker certification to practice linework in any state that recognizes Department of Labor programs
Who is eligible?
• Anyone who has completed the Lineworker Program and earned a Lineworker certificate from a credible institution is eligible to apply.
• Area schools with qualifying programs include:
• Bismarck State College
• Minnesota State Community & Technical College, Wadena
• Dakota County Technical College, Rosemount
• Mitchell Technical Institute
What are the benefits?
• Supervised by experienced journeyman lineworkers while learning through hands-on training.
• Offers competitive wages and excellent benefits.
• On-the-job hours count directly towards completion of journeyman lineworker certificate.
How do I enroll?
• Once you have completed a qualifying Lineworker program, you can apply to CCEC’s Lineworker Apprenticeship Program by filling out an application for an open position or leaving your resume on file for future openings.
• Selected candidates are interviewed, given a written test, and assessed through climbing and driving tests.
• Upon completion of these prerequisites, applicants will be considered for the program.
