Ticket holders must:
• Maintain safe clearance between underground facilities and mechanized equipment.
• Provide proper support and backfill to protect underground facilities.
• Take ownership of locate markings – keep them visible and remove them when the job is complete.
• Assume the cost of hand digging to expose facilities unless the facility owner specifies otherwise.
• Manage spoil piles so that shifting material does not damage underground lines.
Private Facilities
North Dakota One Call marks public utility lines only. Property owners are responsible for locating private underground lines, including:
• Lines to outbuildings, hot tubs, and pools
• Security lighting
• Propane tanks and gas grills
• Sprinkler systems
• Private locating services can be hired to identify these lines for a fee.
Don’t Forget
• Always call 811 before digging.
• Wait until all locators respond.
• Confirm responses online or with the notification center.
