It amazes us how the Greater Portland area continues to evolve As members of Breakwater Seminars, we will enjoy and support these local businesses as part of our live series We decided to introduce the 2022/23 curriculum with a blend of virtual and in person learning emphasizing “the basics'' While digital dentistry can take good dentists to the next level, a strong foundation in occlusion, basic surgical and restorative principles, and the different dental specialties will truly elevate your craft and the care you provide your patients

Our Philosophy on Continuing Education

Breakwater Seminars is an extension of the Casco Bay Study Club for aspiring young dentists focused on delivering excellence in comprehensive treatment planning. Drawing on resources from Spear, Seattle, and the International Team for Implantology Study Clubs, the group is steeply focused on interdisciplinary care from diagnosis to delivery. This series is dedicated to the personal and professional growth of Maine dentists. We share the same philosophy on continuing education:

Membership

Members of the Breakwater Seminars recognize that team oriented treatment planning and total case management are the drivers for optimal patient care. We meet monthly to review the latest technological advances and treatments and share new techniques and styles of serving patients We also collaborate on challenging cases, so that our patients continually benefit from an interdisciplinary approach of like minded dentists and specialists.

Tuition

Tuition includes a blend of virtual meetings and half day lectures from speakers around the world. Interactive, hands on workshops are also available for the entire dental team.

Why Occlusion Matters

The understanding of occlusion allows you to practice dentistry in a more conservative fashion Our patients have much longer lifespans than the elderly patients of 30 years ago As practitioners we have to think in terms of dentistry that lasts a lifetime and not just today. There will also be an open discussion about issues affecting younger dentists in practice.

Decision Making in Mucogingival Therapy Live Surgical Demonstration

Soft tissue deformities present unique challenges for the dental team. Techniques to thicken phenotypes, cover exposed roots, and/or increased the band of attached, keratinized tissue have evolved with the introduction of different graft materials. In more compromised situations, a combined perio restorative approach can achieve both functional and esthetic outcomes. Learning to readily diagnose and treat mucogingival defects will set reasonable clinical expectations and improve long term health and marginal stability

Upon completion of this session, attendees should be able to:

Diagnose mucogingival conditions using the new classification using the new classification system

Identify site, patient, and esthetic related risk factors for mucogingival therapy

Avoid and manage a variety of problems in mucogingival surgery

Determine need for adjunctive restorative treatment around soft tissue defects

Translating Periodontal Diagnoses into Clinical Practice

Patients with advanced periodontal destruction pose a unique challenge to the restorative dentist Tooth loss, increased mobility, and severe attachment loss complicate ways to restore a patient's function and esthetics Systemic health plays an increasingly important role in the periodontal restorative interface. Arriving at the proper diagnosis and prognosis for patients with poor oral and overall health will improve the way we rehabilitate an otherwise hopeless dentition.

Participant feedback and interchange with instructors will be facilitated through e mail and live Q&A for all sessions hosted by Seattle Study Club. For recorded sessions, directors will have a live Q&A with the instructor available to help them prepare and facilitate group discussion for the session. All sessions will be recorded and available for use up to three times to accommodate varying schedules or missed sessions. Seattle Study Club will provide CE Credits for only those sessions hosted live by Seattle Study Club. For all in person speakers and video facilitated sessions your local study club is responsible for providing the CE Credits. These are virtual and live lecture, demo, and peer discussion programs suitable for all dentists, dental students, and business professionals regardless of prior experience who are members of this study club.
