In the Zone Zone 6 News from Representative Tim Hagner It’s that time of the year, for a large number of us the Porsche gets tucked away till spring, and our thoughts turn towards the Holidays or those winter “updates”! We got an early snow here in Bend and all the Porsche sports cars disappeared! But first, let’s look back a little bit, Polar region celebrated their 25th anniversary and I’m happy to say, “I was there”. There is Edmonton Canada. Thank you Polar Region for great hospitality, great food and great Porsche camaraderie. Like all the Regions, I’m looking forward to the return trip! I hope to be able to help celebrate many more anniversaries with you. We drove to the Silver Sage Region, Boise Idaho, to attend their annual charity dinner and auction. This was another great event with both a silent auction, bidding open through dinner, and a regular “bidding war” that was after dinner .The bidding provided some great after dinner entertainment and some really fun items where on the block! During the evening we did get an occasional update on the “Broncos” football score, but not one Duck update! After the bidding ended and the dust settled Silver Sage had raised approximately $10,000 for their two charities. Great job Silver Sage! Logo update, we have a winner and it has been approved by Porsche Cars as good to go! Because the logo has a likeness of a Porsche in it we needed their approval. We are in the process of a few last minute “tweaks” and will have it out to you very soon. It looks very cool! This has been a learning year for me, thanks to everyone for your support. Figuring out the travel has been the hardest part, but we mostly got through it all unscathed! For the record it was 5,600 miles driven (mostly the old 930) and approximately 11,500 flying miles, all in support of Zone 6, whew! You’re worth it!! Looking forward, have a happy and safe Holiday season with your family and Porsche friends. I plan on seeing everyone next year! Don’t forget: it really is about the people.

O

n Saturday evening, November 8th, Cascade PCA members gathered at the beautiful home of Gary and Sue Ward in East Medford. Their home impresses with the panache of Architectural Digest, complete with its own wine cellar and separate garage for their golf carts! There was more than ample space to spread out and enjoy the spaciousness and the ambiance of the indoors as well as the outdoor gardens, which were lit up by the fire pit on the front deck. We met at 6 p.m. for cocktails followed by a sumptuous potluck at 7 p.m. which included sliced ham, Chicken Divan, chicken enchiladas, barbecued short ribs, bean casserole, and tossed salad. Dessert included fudge brownies, cherry pie, a sumptuous pumpkin crisp dish that was to die for (I WANT that recipe! ), and cheesecake. There was plenty of space to display and serve up the delectables in Sue’s newly remodeled kitchen complete with granite counter tops and two tier ovens. And there were three different dining areas that members could feast themselves. Amidst lively conversation and convivial camaraderie, everyone enjoyed a dazzling evening. Members began to leave at about 9 p.m. but a few hung out together around the fire pit on the front deck as they enjoyed a night cap and fine cigars. WE extend a warm THANK YOU to Gary and Sue for opening their wonderful home to the Club and for being such gracious hosts.

Introducing Arne Berglund Our NEW Central Chapter Representative "Hi, everybody. My name is Arne, and I'm addicted to

cars." (Audience replies, "Hi, Arne.") So with that preface, I'd like to introduce myself as your new Central Chapter Representative. Yes, I'm a fairly new guy, not one of the old-timers. While I've been into cars for more than 4 decades, I finally fulfilled my dream of owning a Porsche only 3 years ago. So who and what am I? I'm a native Oregonian, grew up in Klamath Falls, and have lived in the Eugene-area since 1976. Married my wife Deanna in 1977, and she has tolerated my foibles well. A bit of a tech-geek, a casual home-brewer of dark beers, and a reasonable mechanic. After 20+ years working in tires and auto repair, I've now been a tri-platform Linux/Windows/Mac systems administrator for the past 15 years. I like working on and restoring cars as recreation, although I don't currently have any active projects. My '84 Carrera coupe is mostly stock, and in very nice shape, so despite a lack of work space I've recently been sniffing about for a more needy project to occupy me, and to save the Carrera from further tinkering. I'm not a track-rat, but thoroughly enjoy back-road weekend cruises and the like. Since I was fortunate enough to buy a later galvanized Porsche, I do drive and enjoy my car year-round. As Central Chapter Rep, my initial goal will be to continue the purely social monthly coffee gatherings (10:00 AM, first Saturday of the month, Starbucks on 7th & Washington), and to solicit input from the local members on what activities they would like to participate in. I am also going to put out a frank call for help. One of the skills in which I'm lacking is event planning. (Just ask my wife!) So for driving events in 2015, I'd really like to have some ideas from the members around here. If any of you have a favorite drive, tour, day trip or such like that you'd be interested in sharing with us, please don't hesitate to contact me. I'm thinking about things like a wine tour, day trip to the coast, etc. The one event I will likely plan myself will be a one-day trip to the Historic Races in Portland (July 10-12, 2015), probably on Saturday the 11th. In closing, I'd like to say that I'm always willing to chat with others about our cars, especially via email, so feel free to drop me a line.

Hope to see many of you on the road!

Arne
