Special thanks to

By the time you read the next “In the Zone”, a winner will have been announced. To see the entries and the winning logo, go to: www.pca-cwr.org. Good luck and thank you to all that entered! Wow! That’s the best way to describe the Whistler Weekend. I’m sure everyone who attended feels the same way. Our car, our friends and my new favorite place (next to Bend!), it just doesn’t get any better. There were over 120 Porsches entered, fifty of them lined the upper village on Saturday for the Concours and show, much to the enjoyment and delight of many a visitor. The walking rally was a great way to explore the village and the Sunday Auto-x was a great way to explore the limits of your car. I’m not sure what limits were explored on the wine tour! Maybe I shouldn’t know. Congratulations to the Olympic Peninsula Region for winning the Mark Donahue Trophy, presented to the region that had the most participants, excluding the hosting regions, based on miles driven and membership size. Glad I didn’t have to do the math, only present the Trophy. A “well done” goes to the weekend’s overall winner, and Zone 6 Webmaster, Dennis Coplen. The overall winner is determined by points earned in the three competitive events, the better you do, the more points you earn. The person at the end of the weekend with the most points wins the overall. I’ll be looking forward to next year’s version. Canada West and Pacific North West regions combined forces to host a very well done event. Great job everyone!

Dave Johnson, Robert Forest

Speaking of next year, the “Zone 6 Grand Tour” is still going forward. We’re working on a tentative date so you can start your planning. As soon as it becomes available we’ll pass it on.

Thank you to the Absaroka Region for being a great host to me and to their President, Stephanie Haider, for the after meeting tour. What a great drive! Graham, I found your car, but not you at Skamania. I think the rain was the factor.

A Day of Cars, BBQ and Fun

by David Duarte Medford Chapter

On the sunny Saturday afternoon of August 23rd, nine Porsches and their members assembled at Carrera Motors in Medford. At 1:00 p.m. we left on a leisurely drive through the Applegate Valley lead by Pres. Ross Rampy. We stopped at Red Lily winery for a rest break and a glass

of wine to get our pumps primed for our early dinner BBQ in Grants Pass. From Red Lily we took a scenic drive through the Applegate, arriving in Grants Pass at 3 p.m. Bill and Carolyn welcomed us graciously into their beautiful home beckoning us to remove our shoes as we entered. We assembled onto their spacious deck overlooking the Rogue River and commenced libations of beer, wine, bottled water, and soft drinks for those who wanted it. Beverages were provided by the Club. The salmon and halibut for the BBQ as well as the rice, salad, and desserts were generously donated by Mike and Robin Vandeford, who 6

brought the fish (under refrigeration, of course :-)) from their home in Alaska. After some socializing and some announcements from Ross, Bill brought out the salmon for grilling on planks. The salmon was then transported to the kitchen and served buffet style along side the halibut which had been baked in a delicious white sauce. The delicious fish was accompanied with mixed green salad, rice, and cole slaw. For desert brownies and a wonderful lemon cake made from a family recipe were served. With tummies pleasantly satiated, Carolyn offered a house tour of their beautiful home. We were impressed with all of the thought and attention to detail that were implemented in the construction of this home, with a view toward retirement and senior living access. Thank you to all members who participated and especially to the Vanderfords for their generous food donation and to the Kohn’s for their generous hospitality . We have a wonderful Club. We enjoy the cars that we drive and so appreciate the camaraderie that we all share.

An Update from the Central Chapter... by John Thompson So there I was today, trying to bring life to the dead battery in my work truck when I heard the rustle of leaves and felt the gentle warm breeze at my back. It was very peaceful out though. The trees have started their show of color signaling the end of summer and the quick descent into days of more darkness than light.

I will admit, this summer has not exactly turned out how I had imagined upon the start of the year. I knew I was going to have a busy spring and summer, but I thought I was going to have time and motivation carry out all my plans. Today’s warm breeze was also like a gentle kick in the rear awakening the realization, I have not done what I set out to do.

There is a certain amount guilt that the club has taken a back seat to all else that I had (have) going on. We have managed to continue our monthly social gatherings, but we have not ventured out on the road as an organized club for some months. To be honest, I am not fully certain that this guilt is more than self imposed. I am sure some of the members are wanting more, but our group has had periods of varying participation. I get the feeling we are on the downward slope of another one of those periods. Unfortunately, I am also on that personal downward slope also.

I have heard it referred to as “Porsche Mojo”, and I think I have lost it. OK, pretty much certain I have lost it. This has happened before, once, and I figure it is a cycle. I haven’t fallen out of love for the cars and the friends I’ve met through the club, but I just need to be a follower for a period of time. I am hoping that someone will step forward to take over the reigns of the Central Chapter and give it the love it and it’s members deserve. I have a new personal venture that may help me realize how much my life has been impacted by these silly little cars through sharing the passion with someone who is in need of positive dreams.

I still hope to see you on the road.

Dinner at Miguels It’s always a great time getting together for dinner with our fellow club members, and there’s no shortage of memorable moments thanks to the crazy antics we Porsche owners seem to all inherently have. This month we met at Miguels on the Rogue River in Shady Cove for drinks, food and good atmosphere. Thanks to everyone who joined us, and be sure to keep a look out on the website for details about next month’s dinner!
