RETURN TO FORM After a dip in form in February, Charlton Athletic Women have bounced back with strong performances in March. The month began with a visit from local rival’s Millwall Lionesses. The game was staged at Charlton Athletics’ stadium, The Valley, with over 600 fans cheering on a 3-0 victory for the Addicks. The supporters were in fine spirit with an excellent turnout especially, when considering that it was the third match played at The Valley in a space of just five days. The game marked an emotional occasion for the club as it celebrated the life of former keeper Jordan Dawes who lost her life to cancer aged just 18. A range of tributes took place including both sets of teams walking out the tunnel in commemorative shirts to celebrate the life of the brave keeper. Goals from Kit Graham, Charlotte Gurr and Liz Ejupi secured maximum points for the reds under the floodlights. League leaders Manchester United were the next visitors. Despite a 2-1 defeat the players can be proud of their performance as they showed why they are competing for the top positions in the league. The Premier League giants have invested a lot of money into the women’s team being the only full-time side in the FA Women’s Championship. Initiatives like this will be great for sport long-term as more fans try out Women’s football for the first time. March ended with another three points gained on the road. 12
