Day to day there are a few things that can be done to help ensure a longer tool life. When not in use simply keeping a tool in a systainer for example, will always go a long way to help look after the machine. If you are working outside in poor weather or when transporting, then the systainer will protect your tools. Dust extraction is also

key to keeping your tool working at its optimum. Not only do dust extractors protect your health, they also protect your machine. With less dust, parts last longer as does your overall machine. 
