breeding farm came in 1995 with the birth of Gazal Al Shaqab, which became one of the greatest procreators in the Middle East. Five years after its offspring Marwan Al Shaqab was born, considered today one of the greatest feats in the race’s worldwide breeding. Gazal Al Shaqab is the offspring of the US-born stud Anaza El Farid, of Egyptian descent. Gazal’s mother is the American National Champion Kajora, of Polish descent. Gazal was the National Stud Champion of Qatar, Stud Champion of the Middle East, Reserved National American Stud Champion and World Champion at the Salon du Cheval (France). It was briefly leased to the world famous Janow Podlask, one of Poland’s state-owned stud farms, where it produced the World Champions Pianíssima and Emandora. Marwan Al Shaqab was born from the matrix of Little Liza Fame, grand daughter of the glorious Bey Shah and from the American National Champion Fames VF, and therefore of typically American descent. It was bought by Sheikh Hamad in 1993. Marwan soon distinguished itself in the tracks. It was the Qatari National Young Champion, Young Champion of Europe, Young Champion of the Nations’ Cup (Germany) and twice Young World Champion (France). When it grew up, Marwan went back to the tracks to win the Horse Championship of the Middle East, the Young Horse American National Championship in 2003 and the Senior Horse American National Championship in 2005 (the two latter by unanimous vote of the 10 judges), and the World Horse Championship at the Salon du Cheval. But the most important aspect of Marwan is not only its extraordinary career in the tracks but also the importance it has as an Arabian Horse procreator in the world. This condition was possible only due to Sheikh Hamad’s generosity and vision, by renouncing to have close to him that which he calls the “crown jewel of the Al Shaqab horse breeding farm”, allow-

ing Marwan to go to the USA and to Europe to compete in the great shows and to make reproduction available to breeders worldwide. The beauty and correctness of Marwan’s biotype impressed others so much that the available reproductions ended quickly, and the result was confirmed with the birth of an offspring of tens of National Champions in the race’s main breeding grounds. Just imagine that today it is only possible to purchase Marwan’s semen for the 2009 season, and even so for no less than $ 20,000 by reproduction. In Brazil, the biggest highlight of Marwan’s offspring is no doubt *FA El Shawan, Brazilian National Male Junior Champion and Brazilian National Cole Champion, both achievements decided unanimously by 10 judges. El Shawan was born in the United States, bred by Marlene Ann Rider. It was brought to Brazil by a group of breeders, Casa Branca among them, when it was only 1 year and 2 months old. Its mother is Foxbriar Shakita, which has in its pedigree the greatest names in the Arabian Horse breeding in the world, such as the German El Shaklan, American Bey Shah, Polish Bask, Egyptian naturalized Russian Aswan and the Egyptian Ansata Ibn Halima. The racial beauty, harmony of forms and athletic disposition of El Shawan, which marked it as a rare specimen of great qualities for the exhibition tracks, begin to turn it, as it happened to its noble ascendency, into a procreator that will certainly go into history. El Shawan, which turned three years old in May, had three newborn offspring until the closing of this edition. And those who saw them say they have an extraordinary potential for the tracks and for procreation. Paulo Marques, from Casa Branca Agropastoril , expresses the expectation towards El Shawan’s procreation in this way: “Mine weren’t born yet, should be soon, but what I heard from those who already had its offspring is that El Shawan is really as extraordinary as father as it is as a Champion. I am anxious to see the ones that will be born at home”.
