This Autumn the Lyric is host to some fantastic performances such as The Vagina Monologues, Blake, An Evening of Burlesque and many more. Theatr Elli features the brilliant Mike Doyle, the charismatic and inventive Craig Campbell plus a host of local amateur and school performances. And look out for some great performances at The Miners’ including the singing sensation Stacy Kent and John Godbers’ Beef.

‘Can You Sing’ International Summer Opera Course 2011 presents
OPERA GALA EVENING The gala evening showcases your favourite staged opera scenes, sung by young singers from all over UK, Europe and South America. This time it’s August 2011 and Maldwyn (Siôn Probert) has had an epiphany: he believes he must travel to New Zealand to help Wales reach the final of the Rugby World Cup. On this two month Kiwi tour we will see lifelong friendships made, relationship make-ups and break-ups, all under the watchful eye of tour leader Maldwyn. ROBESON A life, with songs Written and Performed by Tayo Aluko With Michael Conliffe, Piano Directed by Olusola Oyeleye; Designed by Phil Newman Paul Robeson was a great and famous actor, singer and civil rights campaigner. When he got too radical and outspoken for the establishment's liking, he was branded a traitor to his country, harassed, and denied opportunities to perform or travel. This rollercoaster journey through Robeson’s remarkable life highlights how his activism caused him to be disowned and disremembered, even by leaders and descendants of the civil rights movement. The show features some famous songs and speeches, including a dramatic rendition of Ol’ Man River, and a spectacularly defiant testimony to the Senate House Un-American Activities Committee.

Noisy neighbours, speeding cars, kids hanging about on the street corners… you name it, he’ll moan about it; it’s the one thing he’s good at. He makes Victor Meldrew look like an amateur.
Social unrest and protests against injustice have long since inspired the creation of some of our best known songs and anthems.
And doesn’t his wife Lucy know it? Stuck at home with him rabbiting on every day since his early retirement, and nowhere to escape to… she’s housebound. And every day is starting to blend into every other… until one Halloween, when a rash act changes everything.

MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING Shakespeare’s popular comedy tells of two pairs of lovers. Headstrong Beatrice and proud Benedick live in staunch denial of their true feelings for each other, whilst lovesick Claudio and sweet, naive Hero are head over heels with devotion. But the path of true love never runs smooth, and with foul play and mischief afoot at the hands of devious villain Don John, this classic play promises plenty of scope for Mappa Mundi’s unmistakable style. Accompanist: Katalin Falvai Born in 1985 virtuoso violinist 26 year old Davinder Singh from Llandybie won a scholarship to study at the Chetham School of Music in 1994. At the age of 16 he won a scholarship to study with Professor Geza Kapas in Budapest and latterly has attended the Royal Northern College of Music. In 2002 he won the Blue Ribbon at the National Eisteddfod and in the same year was soloist with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. The programme will include: Partita in D Minor - Bach; Rhapsody for Violin - Bartok; Tzigane - Ravel; Violin Sonata in A Major - Franck. Jacob Marley is dead and condemned to an eternity of carrying a heavy chain, forged in life; a life to which he can no longer return except to recount the tale of his miserly business partner, Ebenezer Scrooge. Through Marley's words, we learn how three magical spirits opened Scrooge's eyes and made him realise the true value of love and forgiveness.
