The weather cooperated. Many thanks to Member Bill Harkey as well, who generously contributed 4 foursomes. Plenty of photos will be available soon in our website.

Club News President Juan’s Corner •

At this coming Thursday’s Club Meeting on Oct. 28, the Club will be voting on a new location for our Club Meetings: Rillo’s Restaurant. This possible change has been announced at several past meetings.. The Board unanimously voted for the change. Altogether, between emails and other communication with members, I have heard over 50 yes’s; no no’s. I ask Club Secretary Dave to take minutes of the discussion that may take place, just for the record. No comment from Elks’ management on the issue. Welcome back from the Carlisle Hospital, Member Zane. You looked well last week. We wish you continuous improvement. It’s a shame you’ll be moving to the Carolina’s; you will be missed!. Congratulations to Member Sherrie Davis, new United Way Director, on the grant received from the Stewart Foundation. We understand you will be going through a kidney cancer operation soon; we all wish you a very prompt recovery.

District 7390 has added a “4-Way Test Speech Contest” for 10, 11, 12th graders, over and above the “Essay Contest” for 9th graders. The prizes for the speech contest will be $1,500 to first place, etc, with monetary prizes going to first 5 places. Please see Bonnie Berk and/or Jim De Gaetano, Jr; we need some member helpers in the effort to coordinate the project.

Next week Secretary Dave Twining will begin passing a list for possible items for our Kenya Dental/Water Mission to Africa Dinner, which will take place De. 16 at Dickinson College. Save the date on your calendar.

November 17 is our Dist. 7390 Foundation Dinner at the Country Club of York. It would be nice to have a couple of tables with our members/guests, as we have the last few years.

Many thanks to all of you for our great Club and your support! Yours in Rotary, Juan

BRING A GOOD FRIEND/ PROSPECTIVE MEMBER TO OUR CLUB LUNCHEONS! It's the easiest way to expose our Club to possible new members! We must stay focused on this mission. This is key to the projects we undertake, and in keeping our District 7390 banner where we feel it should be!

in recent years! The New Orleans convention will officially start on Saturday – not on Sunday as it has for the past few years. The House of Friendship, the showplace of our annual conventions, will open on Saturday morning, and all preconvention meetings will end at noon on Saturday, to allow Rotarians and their guests to spend more time there before the plenary sessions start on Sunday.

Rotary International News “Way Down Yonder in New Orleans”

There have been many songs written about New Orleans due to its history and heritage as one of the music capitals of the world. I particularly like the happy sound of “Way Down Yonder in New Orleans,” whose lyrics now beckon us as we think about the 2011 RI Convention in that city, 21-25 May – a full month earlier than the RI conventions November 2010

Additional good news is that the House of Friendship will be located right next door to the plenary session hall in the convention center, and the hours of operation will be extended to permit more fellowship and networking time for our visitors from around the Rotary world. It will be the place to be for Rotarians and their families! How does one adequately describe the magic, the vibrancy, and the inspiration of a Rotary convention? Our conventions almost defy description because they are so diverse in their appeal. Rotary fellowship and networking are at their best as we meet our fellow Rotarians from around the globe, and international service is truly enhanced as Rotarians make new friends from faraway places. So the best way to understand and Page 4

appreciate a Rotary convention is to attend the outstanding event being planned for New Orleans. It will be one of the best RI conventions ever! I guarantee it! Come join us in New Orleans as we work together to make the world a better place. And Let the Good Times Roll ‌ Again! Laissez les bon temps rouler ‌ encore!
