PR T OJEC ANNOUNCEMENT Cardozo Key Club has recently won the Youth Opportunities Grant (YOF), providing us with $1,615 to use for a community fridge project we have been planning for since the beginning of the year. In attempt to address food insecurity in the local community of flushing, we plan to partner with the MinKwon Center for Youth Activism and Bayside Kiwanis to establish this fridge in the heart of downtown flushing. As COVID-19 and hurricane Ida has caused catastrophic damage economically to the area, it is our mission to relieve the stress of tens of thousands of residents as Flushing has now become the third poorest area in Queens.

First of all the weather was freezing as usual. I loved how fun, uplifting and cheerful this event was. My favorite parts was cheering as people ran past the finish line and handing out medals to everyone. I was so impressive to see this mother run with a stroller and one entire family even ran together. I also got a free Monster drink so that was cool. - Sammi Chen "It was an extremely cold day, much like most events during the winter. I was freezing in the cold. The people there didn't really have much for us to do at the beginning, so I was just there for almost 2 hours doing basically nothing. But as the runners came in, we were given more jobs. Sammi and I, were in charge of holding up the finishing line. That was really fun since we got to see the runners up close. Afterwards, I helped give out the medals to all the runners and then later helped give the trophies to the winners. Overall, it was a fun event." - Puja Debi "At this event we as a small group were able to sign runners in, cheer people on as they ran, and deliver medals and water towards the end. It was cold but seeing all the smiles on everyone’s face was worth it. I loved this event especially since it was for a good cause." -Maggie Lin

Second Saturdays Highbridge Bike Park SS-@-HBP.jpg

"This day was super fun. We helped pick up some trash in the park. *it was so dirty*. I was able to make and talk to some friends. After that we also road our bikes on the trail :)" - Manamehn Kromah "This event was fun and dangerous. There were so much trash in the hill/ mountain area, and even this place full of syringes and it was very explorable. I chose this event because I heard the word bike and thought we spent majority of the time biking, but at the end we did get to bike for around an hour and picked up trash for 2 hours. It was very interesting, I would go again - Michelle Chen

Second Saturdays Highbridge Bike Park "This event surely was fun (but tiring) as I got to rake leaves for a seemingly endless loop of time. The weather was brilliant that day, but I still sweated so much. At the end of the raking, some members even got to get biking lessons from a teacher for free for the service we have done in the hours prior. Since I didn’t have much biking experience, and the lesson was meant for ones who had experience, I decided to sit down and enjoy the fresh air and take a break from the raking I’ve done for hours. I would definitely attend another event like this, mainly because of the relaxation after I rake, but also that I get to enjoy raking while hiking." - Zacahry Wong "In this event we had to clean and pick up trash and after that we got to ride the mountain bikes. We all went to the Highbridge park from Flushing together and the commute was fun as well. I chose this event as the event itself sounded fun as it involved riding a bike. I biked after many years and it felt nice to bike around with friends and key club members. I was glad that this event took place as the the bike riding event was canceled during January. I would be interested in such events in the future too because it allows us to serve the community as well as have fun experiences." - Sidratul Muntaha

Second Saturdays Highbridge Bike Park "The Second Saturdays @ Highbridge Bike Park event was split into two parts, one part cleaning up the trail and one part riding on mountain bikes. I chose this event because I haven't biked in a long time and I wanted to hang out with my friends as well as riding a bike. What made this event interesting was the how much fun I had with my friends, helping rake the leaves at the trail and playing at the park." -Amber Sun "This event gave me the opportunity to make new friends and bike ride along the trail. We had to clear the path which gave me more experience with cleaning up litter. After clearing up the path, we got the opportunity to bike along the path which gave me a bit of trouble biking through tree branches and bumps. Overall a very fun experience!" - Brandon Moy "This event was really fun! I was able to make new friends and make closer bonds. I chose this event because I really like to bike so choosing this event was a no brainer." - Brayden Pan

Chinese Lunar New Year Parade and Festival 2022 CLNYPaF-2022.jpg

This event was such a nice experience! Although it was so cold but it was fun. I chose this event as the name sounded appealing, and I always enjoyed watching Chinese lunar new year parades, I held a banner for the whole thing, i also got to explore around Chinatown and they provided a small lunch of fried noodles, rice, and I chose noodles, it was very delicious. I would go again! - Michelle Chen

"This was my first time being involved in a parade like this one. My friends and I had the opportunity to walk in this parade while holding a banner. This was an experience I’d never forget since I got to share laughs with my friends but also the free food they gave all the volunteers at the end were so good." - Maggie Lin

Chinese Lunar New Year Parade and Festival 2022 "This was such a big event. So many people came. When we were on the train, we literally hogged the one whole section. When we got there, there was so many other people and key clubs. I was given a poster to hold. It was a really fun event. We were able to walk around Chinatown and take part in the parade. We got filmed so much and got shown on the news. There were so many pretty people on cars and so much confetti everywhere. It was so beautiful and I was able to see many performances. At the end, they provided food. The only problem was that they didn't have a halal option so some people weren't able to eat. They had only beef and pork option. I ate pork since I'm not allowed to eat beef but unfortunately my Muslim friends weren't able to eat anything. Either ways, we went out to eat afterwards and all in all, this was a really fun event and experience. Hopefully, we have more events like this." - Puja Debi "This event took me by surprise. The weather was so cold but it was such an awesome experience. It was so likely and so festive. I thought we were just helping prep but i never imagined being part of the actual parade. It kind of make me nervous but it was really cool. My hands and toes were literally frozen by the end of it." - Sammi Chen

Chinese Lunar New Year Parade and Festival 2022

"This event took place in the streets of Chinatown to celebrate Chinese Lunar New Year. I chose this event because I had never seen the Lunar New Year Parade before and was excited to experience this event with many of my friends. It was very cold that day but it was worth all the fun and experience I had during this event. One interesting thing was that there were many people on the side when we were walking the parade and everyone looked extremely happy and excited for the parade which made me feel happy. We were also provided with a meal after the event was over. I would be interested in such events in the future too because I had fun during this event and I experienced new things like walking in a parade and getting to know about how people celebrate the Lunar New Year." - Sidratul Muntaha "During this event, many members from our school and other schools help set up and have fun watching the amazing Chinese Lunar New Year festival. Although this event was tiring and long, I still had tons of fun hanging out with my friends and helping out in the cold, I even got to meet our key club LTG! What made this event so interesting was definitely the super cool floaties driving pass by and colorful confetti in the sky. This event was probably one of my favorites and I would definitely want to go again, just maybe not in the cold weather." - Roddic Chen

Chinese Lunar New Year Parade and Festival 2022 "I signed up for the Chinese Lunar New Year Parade because I thought it would be fun. But to be very honest, the event was very scuffed. The weather was freezing and the parade was disorganized. Seeing my friends from school and out of school was enjoyable though." - Alice Wu "This day was fun as well. We helped and put things together like the big dragon. I was A part of the group that was the opening of the parade holding the banner. And I also made some friends I will definitely do this parade again :)." - Manamehn Kromah "I absolutely loved this event! I went to Chinatown with some of my closest friends, helped out in the parade, and also went out with friends after the event. Although, it was really cold, it was absolutely worth my time!" - Brayden Pan "This was a huge event where we helped organize the event along with holding banners and setting up equipment. NYCRuns Central Park Half Marathon CLNYPaF-2022.jpg

"I had to wake up very early for this event. I remember running out of the house at 5 am to catch the bus. I almost missed the bus but thankfully, I got to the meetup place on time. It was a fun ride on the train with all the key club members. When I got there, we were at first a bit lost but we managed to find the place. We were at the water section and we were once again freezing. I think I helped a lot for this event. I was speed filling all the cups as all the runners passed. Most of us did a lot of work. There were a few people who didn't do any work, which was a bit annoying but its fine. In the end, we had fun." - Puja Debi

NYCRuns Central Park Half Marathon "I chose this event because I wanted to help out at an event I spectated in the past. At the NYCRUNS Central Park Half Marathon, we worked together with the event park employees to oversee the water station. We poured Gatorade and water into plastic cups and set them out on tables for the racers to grab. The interesting part of the event was when we did a mini race between the key club members, that was fun despite my legs not carrying me to victory. The marathon participants were nice and we got to cheer them on. I would be definitely be interested in taking part in these events in the future." - Amber Sun "The marathon event was very fun and cool, we got to explore a little of the city while almost dying to ice falling from the sky. We also got to help by pouring drinks for the runners and complimenting the runners for running so much. I chose this event because it sounds fun, it had limited spots, and we got to help others. What made this event interesting was the many thanks we got from the runners, thanking us for volunteering to help, as well as us being able to enjoy the view of the lake there with the ducks. I would definitely go to this event again." - Roddic Chen

Valentines Cards to Children at St.Jude’s Hospital "Every single year I think about the sick kids who feel lonely especially on Valentine’s Day, or a day about spreading love. The fact that we were able to virtually send cards on this specific day made me happy since I know those kids need it a lot. I’m very happy considering that the cards sent were also made with efforts and thoughts." - Maggie Lin

It was nice providing them cards. Thinking about the thought of their smiles when they open the card was what motivated me to partake in writing these cards. Yes, I would be interested in taking part of future events. - Brayden Pan
