AT ASTORIA PARK GOLDEN POND CLEANUP EVENTThe Cleanup Event wasn't as successful as planned as the rain ruined the fun of the cleanup. We went from picking up trash and beautifying the parks to soon hiding under a bridge trying to avoid getting drenched. Regardless, the bus ride there was fun and the ride back was even greater as we were able to gather many members despite the weather and have a nice, relaxing day.
- Daniel ChoThis was our first event as the new board took over. The weather was not it but it was nice being able to work with our members as president. The rain added a bit of spice and chaos to the event that day but at least by the end of the day we finished our jobs and got the members home safety.
- Sherry LinIn this event, we had to clean up trash but there was no trash to really pick up. We ended up just picking up all the little cigarette buds and we were surprised to see so many of them. It started raining, midway through the event. We had to leave early because of that.
- Puja DebiThis was the first event during my board position that I attended. We cleaned up Astoria park: picking up trash, cigarettes etc. before it rained. We spent an hour cleaning up the park till it rained but it gave me the opportunity to make new friends and members.
- Brandon MoyThis event was really fun! I helped picked up trash in hopes of perfecting the park. Not only did I clean the park, I also met some new people and made some amazing friends!
- Brayden PanThe volunteer clean-up at Astoria Park was a fun and rewarding event. I enjoyed the time as we took care after our community and disposed all of the litter I got to find!
- Adriana SolariThis event was very fun, we got to see ducks and geese, as well as helping with tasks we got assigned with. Members helped clean up the park, pick up trash, put mulch around trees, and more. For my group, we got to put mulch around trees, it was pretty tiring but fun at the same time. Afterwards we ate pizza and overall the experience was very nice.
- Roddic ChenChose this event because it was so close to my house. Learned a lot at this event with it telling me the reasoning in why the people in the park work so hard there. Doing hard work that requires my physical energy as I'm a lazy person isn't my favorite thing especially on a hot day but I say it was a fun journey.
- Kaylin TanThe Golden Park cleanup event was relatively relaxing except for the end when we had to shovel the fertilizers for the trees. Picking the weed was quite time-consuming yet the progress made it all worth it. Interacting with friends was great but getting to eat pizza with all my friends was even greater!!!
- Daniel ChoThis event with Dr Salwa was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. It was pretty hot but it was worth it. We picked up garbage and pulled out any accessible things we saw in the dirt. At the end Dr Salwa bought everyone pizza and there was even enough for people to take boxes home
- Maggie LinEvents with Dr. Salwa is always amazing. She made a friendly environment for us and helped us get comfortable. We all had different jobs and it worked out really well. At the end of the event, Dr. Salwa bought us pizza like normal. Overall, this was a great chill event.
- Puja DebiThis event was really fun since I got to meet Dr. Salwa and I got a lot more experience with garden work. We poured mulch around multiple trees and I got to meet new members. Dr. Salwa bought us pizza during the end of the event which was very nice of her.
- Brandon MoyI got to meet 3 members from Stuyvesant key club and we interacted throughout the entire event. During this event, we picked up trash around the housing complex and garden. Meeting new people from Stuyvesant high school key club was the best part about the event.
- Brandon MoyAn interesting event but I was able to meet Stuy KC and their president! A lovely experience picking up garbage and talking with others. The weather that day was very hot but it was nice being able to help out out community.
- Sherry LinThis event was one of the more messy events. When we went there, we had to wait for so long because the workers didn't have anything planned for us. After he gave us our jobs, we were confused because the event states that we would be gardening but instead, we were picking up trash from the soil. We were all very confused. We also saw a rat and half of the group was dying and it was very funny to see. I wish we would actually plant next time and have a more organized scheduke.
- Puja DebiThis event was so fun and unexpected. I thought we would be farming and planting but instead, we had to pick up trash. We used hand grippers to pick up the garbage, which I appreciated as it saved my back.
- Brayden PanThis was a really fun fundraiser and an opportunity for me to finally try playing 8ball. I loved going with so many people and I was so surprised to find that many others also didn't know how to play. In the back of the place, there was this punching machine which was also so fun to try. Daniel and his friend went broke by spending all their money on the people who wanted to use it. This event made me want to go play 8ball with my friends, too.
- Puja DebiI chose this event because I didn’t know how to play pool, so I thought it’ll be fun to learn something new. My friends taught me how to play and we had a lot of fun, it was also very intense too. I also bought a cookie from the bake sale; it was very good. Overall, the event was extremely fun, and I had a great time with my friends, I would definitely go again.
- Roddic ChenOne of my most favorite fundraiser we started the new term off with. Although I may of not won a single game when playing with Erica and Brayden. I was able to make close friends with them and bonded our keyclub! Super fun event and it was really nice being able to see out keyclubbers enjoy themselves and trying something new. We definitely have to have this type of event again!
- Sherry LinI loved this fundraiser so far, 8ball was something I got to learn and enjoy. Sherry's cookies and brownies were the best. We raised a lot of money for field day and it was a success. The punching machine seemed to attract everyone's attention since we tried getting up to 900. This fundraiser will be something that I'll remember for a while.
- Brandon MoyI loved this event!! I love playing 8ball regularly so to see a fundraiser with something I loved doing immediately drew my attention. I got to play with with my friends and shared a lot of laughs. I hope we have something like this again in the future along with Sherry’s bake sales because the baked goods make everything 10x better.
- Maggie LinThis event was so cool! I brought one of my closest friend along and I had a good time. We had a lot of battles, but he came up winning every time. Also, we were able to see who could hit the hardest with the boxing machine.
- Brayden PanThe 8Ball Fundraiser was a successful fundraiser which was a blast. Bringing over friends, hitting the punching machine, hitting the 8 balls, and enjoying the food at the bake sales was all memorable. Despite the wedding I had momentarily after which put me in a rush, the fundraiser itself was very fun and engaging as I was able to communicate with many great members of Key Club
- Daniel ChoThe PurpleStride walk was a little boring at first but seeing all the grateful walkers thanking us and cheering back at us once the event actually started made the wait all worth it. The view of the river was extravagant and the surrounding landscape was even more beautiful, with a lively community. I exhibited many new places like a shopping mall under construction, the World Trade Center, and the actual place itself.
- Daniel ChoThis event is one of my favorite events so far. We had a very nice view of the city and saw big and cool ships; I was in awe. Afterward, we got put into groups to direct the runners and encourage them. I and my friends were put next to some people from the Stuy key club, and we had a very fun time. Our group screamed from the top of our lungs, cheering on the runners. Overall, it was a very fun event, very thrilling.
- Roddic ChenThis event was so FUN! Although by the end of the day I did lose my voice Seeing purple everywhere and allowing our members to cheer for the survivors of Pancreatic Cancer was such a heartwarming experience. This event really helps bring the community closer and our members are able to do something that is appreciative for the community. Also, we met a few new KEYUTIES at this event!
- Sherry LinThis event was really fun since we got to cheer on the people walking for the fight to end pancreatic cancer. Me, Maggie and Puja cheered on everyone using "Purple stride" which was our chant. Seeing so much people coming to this event made me enjoy it more and I loved how I got to meet more members.
- Brandon MoyThis event was took place on the most beautiful area. My group and I had the task of cheering people on as they were running through. It got pretty cold at some point but everyone continued to run through which motivated me to continue screaming and rooting for them.
-- Maggie LinI had to wake up so early for this event but it was worth it. We had to cheer on to the runners and it was very nice to see them enjoying it. I saw many supporters and survivors. I would definitely love to go to more events like this.
- Puja DebiThis event was really nice to assist in, it was really nice cheering on the walkers. I loved encouraging them, knowing that these walks hold a real purpose for them and their team. I felt very proud and I'm glad that this club was there to add positivity to this wholesome event.
- Jasmine GermanyThis event was so fun! It was so nice advocating for Pancreatic Cancer. I held up a sign directing the walkers and runners where to go. I also made a lot of new friends in this event so it was really nice.
- Brayden PanCharity Miles has helped raise thousands of dollars for the Feeding America foundation and proved to be a healthy form of volunteering. Despite losing my first place lead, it is still enjoyable to see me quite high on the leaderboard and as someone who enjoys exercising and doing cardio, I love this event. It is harmless, inexpensive, gets the job done, and greatly encourages hundreds of members from 5 different schools.
- Daniel ChoThis event is one of my favorites! Every time this event pops up for the month, I'm so quick to sign up! I love that I can make a difference and impact others' lives through my normal commute to school.
-
This is a great event we did for many other months. This month, it was a collab with couple of other schools and it was also very fun. Most of the members like for to compete a little to try to be the top of the leaderboard. This event is so fun and I love helping to donate to organizations by just walking.
- Puja DebiWalking is such a simple task and this was an easy way to get hours! I love this event because I have my phone on me all the time and I’m also always walking so it would track my steps without me having to do anything. And although this isn’t necessarily a competition, it’s cool to see who’s on the leaderboard and see how much miles they’ve walked.
- Maggie Lin Jasmine GermanyThis event is so rewarding. Not only does it help you keep in shape, you are also getting hours and helping out charity with this event. This event has motivated me to go out and leave the house more as I do want to be on the top of the leaderboard so it was competitive.
- Brayden PanCharity Miles was a great way to exercise. I would take a walk/run or play basketball and turn on charity miles plus its for a good cause. It definitely made me more active and in collaborations with other schools, we work all together in order to feed america.
- Brandon MoyWhat made me choose this event is that it was a charity for Feeding America. What was so interesting about it is that the charity for Feeding America was earned by walking. I would be interested in taking part in these virtual events in the future too.
- Ryan ChinSupporting a fund for a great cause such as Feeding America is time well spent. Being able to raise money, while also getting some good walking (miles), comes double the benefit.
- Adriana SolariIsn't much to it. Think lot of the walking was me going out shopping or going to school. Guess it takes me outside more but honestly I'm outside quite often anyways.
- Kaylin TanWithout Key Club, I wouldn't have many opportunities to help my community. This was a way to show what Key Club and volunteering meant to me. Through acts of kindness and service, it made me feel better about myself.
