How do I achieve this?

What is the time frame?

There is no specific time frame for this as I can always improve my skills. However, I hope to have the basics enhanced before heading into Year 3.

Constraints/obstacles

Enhance my skills digitally including AutoCAD, Photoshop, etc.

I plan to work on my skills daily or whenever I have an opportunity.

YouTube videos will really help with this as it will help enhance my basis skills and this will benefit me in the future.

To achieve this, I plan to get the books that my tutors recommend and any other necessary ones to help with this degree.

There is no specific time frame for this although by reading more, it can help with Year 3 and with graduating.

In studio, we make models regularly for the projects that we do. By doing this, it gives me more practice on my skills.

Opportunities for improvement During studio classes, my tutors are a big help.

Whenever I am stuck, they always have time to help me improve by showing me new skills and functions.

Support needed

I have never been a person who reads a lot so I can find it hard to get into any book, so in order to achieve my goal I must be determined and have a correct mindset to do this.

Going to the library regularly can help improve this goal.

I haven’t properly taken out a book from the university’s library yet. In my opinion, I find it quite confusing. I would personally want to take out the book physically.

An obstacle that can come in the way of this goal is the time frame, for example, only having 2 weeks could result in a rushed model.

In studio, getting help from the older students will give me the opportunity to improve my skills.

By having lessons in modelling to show the best way to cut the card, glue them and what the best materials are to use.

There are no specific constraints/ obstacles in achieving this goal.

It is up to me to achieve this and enhance these skills.

To achieve this, classes such as the AutoCAD class will really help.

However, a class in Photoshop would be beneficial.

Heading into Year 3, I hope to further enhance my knowledge about architecture.

For example, learn more about foundation types and materials used.

In order to achieve this goal, it is up to myself to memorise the different foundation types so that I will know which is being used / which is the best to use.

A way I can learn the different materials is to create a sketchbook.

From now until the end of year 3, I will want to be prepared going into placement with the knowledge that is needed.

The main obstacle is me. This is by not having the time during studio work and modules. It is up to myself to do it in my spare time.

By going to the library, this will give me the opportunity to improve on this goal.

By tutors providing links to good websites and books, I would be given the support needed to achieve this.

I hope to travel whether it’s with this degree or not.

In my placement years, I hope to travel and experience different cultures. For my first placement, I would like to travel to England (not too far) and become more independent with myself. For my second placement, I then hope to travel further to America or Europe.

In Year 3, I will compile more information about placements and traveling.

A main constraints / obstacle that will come in the way of this goal is being home sick.

Although I have a house in Belfast and live up each week, I do enjoy heading home at the weekend to see my family. Travelling to a different country I would not be able to do this.

By researching the different opportunities that can be offered.

I hope that the university will provide me with the information I need about travelling and living away from home.

Improve hand drawing skills

I will do this by sketching drawings in my sketchbooks whenever I have the opportunity.

Not taking the time to do this is an obstacle therefore it is up me to find the time to improve.

Every chance I get to draw is an opportunity to improve on this skill.

By using YouTube videos, I can learn different drawing techniques.

Work in an architect’s firm.

I will investigate different architect firms near me and reach out to them.

I have no time frame for this as I can chose a perfect time for doing this when I’m ready.

One main obstacle would be the firms not having space for a student to work on placement.

Knowing the needed knowledge will hopefully give me the opportunity to work in a firm.

By using the internet, I will be able to search different firms and get their contact details.
