BUILDING A BETTER COMMUNITY
A NEWSLETTER FOR MEMBERS, DONORS, VOLUNTEERS AND FRIENDS OF THE Y

The Capital Area YMCA Seniors celebrated Valentines Day with a I My Y custom made shirt.
The Capital Area YMCA held a Senior Valentine Month FREE event for our wonderful seniors.
From 10:00am until 1:00am, our seniors enjoyed good food, good music and great companionship.
Assemblywoman Verlina ReynoldsJackson dropped in to say hello to our amazing seniors and shared in the good time.
Even our youngest tested out how it would be to grow older gracefully by dressing up as if they were 100 years old. Why celebrating 100 days of school. They sang to their new senior and made sure they went over and spoke to everyone. It was an exceptionally beautiful day for staff, members and volunteers to be able to serve our senior population and to honor them with this luncheon.
Nurturing young minds and preparing them for the challenges of the future.

The YMCA aftercare program at the Capital Area YMCA continues to provide our families with a convenient, safe, fun, loving, and costeffective alternative to typical before and after school care for the children of our community.
Thanks to our friends at Lockheed Martin, our afterschool kids were able to benefit from their experience. Lockheed offered a stem experiment that was hands-on and fostered curiosity and creativity. These programs empower children to become lifelong learners and leaders in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. As we look ahead to an increasingly complex and interconnected world, the importance of after-school STEM programs in shaping the next generation of innovators and problem solvers cannot be overstated.

With so many demands on today’s families, parents need all the support s why child care at the Y is about more than looking after kids. It’s about nurturing their development, by providing a safe place to learn foundational skills, develop healthy, trusting relationships, and building self-reliance through the Y core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

As stewards of the Y’s mission, we know that we are “FOR ALL.” That means we work to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential with dignity. This work requires a commitment from all of us and, at times, can seem like a daunting task.
BUT This is how progress will be made – Here at the Y, with you by our side.
As we look to the future, let us remember that the challenges we face – whether they be social, economic, or environmental – are challenges that we can overcome, but only if we do so together. Let us reach out to one another with open hearts and open minds, and let us build a better world for ourselves and for future generations. We Believe we will be part of the solution.

YOU HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED! This is the letter that so many students hope for after they apply to college and wait for from weeks to months to get an answer.
The Capital Area YMCA is so proud of this young adult. When you are at the Capital Area YMCA, stop in and see his director, Renee RiddleDavison and she will tell you all about the wonderful and exciting things that are going on in the Dance Academy!
Summer is the time of year when children make new memories, have positive development experiences and build lifelong skills and friendships.
Day campers are able to explore creativity, teamwork and leadership in a wide range of active programs that influence lifelong healthy living. They have the opportunity to learn and have fun in an environment where they develop an appreciation of learning, all while having fun and under the direction of trained and certified staff.
