My main advice for beginner tattoo artists is to truly love what you do and be ready to give yourself fully to the process. Draw more, study art, invest in your skills, and keep exploring who you are as an artist. Don't be afraid to try new things and create original designs, that's how your own style is born. And remember, tattooing today isn't just a craft anymore, it's a real art form. Treat it with respect and with a desire to grow, and you'll have a real chance to make your mark on the modern art scene

My desire to become a tattoo artist has grown in childhood, in a small russian city, where art was the only way to express what I could not express in words. I was fascinated by drawing from early childhood and graduated from art school, but the real turning point came later when I first saw the works of tattoo artist whose works looked like a real magic

At that moment I realized that the tattoo was more than just an image on the skin, it's a powerful visual language that allows you to create whole worlds and tell stories. Since that day I realized I wanted to become part of this culture and find my own artistic voice I worked hard, participated in the conventions, won in competitions and gradually went out to the international arena Each project, each trip and every new acquaintance opened new doors.

Over time it became clear that Los Angeles is the place where my creative potential can really be opened The city is full of creative energy and talented people who motivate you to grow and continue to move forward. That's how I was in Monna Lisa shop, who was watching many years among artists who deeply respected. Becoming part of this team was honesty and an important step in my development

Every day, spent here reminds me why I chose this path. For me, tattoo is a combination of artistic vision, personal stories and emotional integrity. Monna Lisa became a real home for me Here I found a team that shares my passion for bright, illustrative New School style, as well as customers open for bold ideas and experiments Today I continue to work with the same passion in the heart, create new projects, develop my skills and bring my contribution to the world tattoo culture

My artistic style developed at the crossroads of illustration and digital art. When I was just starting out, my early designs were inspired by the classic New School style vibrant, dynamic, and expressive, which immediately resonated with me. Over time, I began to dive deeper into digital art, exploring form, light, volume, and more complex color combinations. This had a significant impact on how I see composition and build my work. Today, it's difficult to place my style into a single category, it has evolved into something more multifaceted and free It's still rooted in graphic illustration, but now it's blended with a digital approach that allows me to create more complex shapes, richer color palettes, and vivid, expressive characters Pop culture also plays a major role in shaping my work, video games, animation, comics, and iconic characters all inspire me I enjoy reimagining familiar images and transforming them into bright, unique tattoos with their own personality In the end, my style is a fusion of illustrative techniques, digital artistry, and popculture influences, which I express through dynamic compositions, bold colors, and emotional storytelling

Each tattoo I create holds meaning for my client, everyone has their own story, and every story is unique. For some people, a tattoo is a way to honor an important moment or a loved one. For others, it's a character from a favorite game or animation that shaped their personality and became part of who they are. I love seeing how a tattoo becomes an extension of someone's inner world. When it comes to my most memorable projects, I recently worked on two collaborations that became especially important to me as an artist The first was a collaboration with Sergey Shanko, whose work inspired me at the very beginning of my journey The second was a collaboration with Jesse Smith, one of the brightest and most recognizable artists in the New School world

These two tattoos are completely different and truly unique, and each one has been a profound creative experience for me Projects like these remind me why I love tattooing, it not only connects people and their stories, but also gives me the chance to grow, experiment, and discover new sides of my own style

Working as an artist in Los Angeles is both inspiring and challenging. The competition here is high, and success depends not only on the quality of your work but also on how well you can multitask. Being just a tattoo artist isn't enough anymore, you have to balance creating designs, staying active on social media, filming content, communicating with clients, and preparing workshops. You really have to be strong in every direction, the artistic side, marketing, communication, and time management The biggest challenge is dividing your attention without letting the quality slip in any area It takes discipline, a structured approach, and the ability to set priorities Over time, I learned to plan my days more clearly and dedicate my time to what truly matters, without getting distracted by things that don't move me forward But there's another side to Los Angeles, it's also a place full of opportunities There are so many talented artists around, and that level of competition pushes you to grow faster, experiment more, and constantly improve your technique and visual thinking I try to see challenges not as obstacles but as motivation

For me, the main source of creative inspiration is people. When a client comes in with excitement, trust, and genuine interest in what I do, it immediately sparks my creative energy. Their energy resonates with mine, and that's when the real magic begins, something truly unique and exciting is born. This exchange of energy and emotion is one of the biggest things that keeps me inspired. Over time, I've become a reference point for many tattoo artists because of my very meticulous approach to work. I'm constantly striving for my "perfect tattoo " With every piece, I fully dive into the process, focus on the smallest details, and look for balance in composition, color, and movement I never treat a tattoo as "just another session", it's always an important creative task for me The tattoo industry is growing fast, and you can't afford to stand still I continue studying digital art, following strong illustrators and tattoo artists, attending conventions, connecting with other artists, and trying new approaches to color and composition Personal projects, experimental designs, and collaborations also help me stay fresh and keep evolving In the end, it's the combination of discipline, curiosity, and real human connection that keeps me inspired and constantly pushes me to improve my craft

What inspired you to specialize in the unique style you call "Dragon Flow," and how do you describe it to someone unfamiliar with your work?

Since childhood, l’ve always been inspired by dragons and mythical creatures. I remember collecting dinosaur figures and being completely fascinated by them. Later on, a lot of medieval-themed games pushed me even further in that direction. When it comes to tattooing, flow allows me to connect the artwork to the body so it feels like a natural extension - not just something placed on a “canvas.”

Can you walk us through your creative process—from initial concept to the finished tattoo? How do you “trust the process” in your daily work?

For me, tattooing is a ritual. I see myself as a connector a bridge between me and my client. That’s why trust plays such an important role in the session, especially because my process is fully improvised. I love observing the body’s shapes and movements to create the design and “unleash” the inner dragon

How has tattooing in Berlin influenced your artistic style or approach compared to other cities you’ve worked in?

I think Berlin has a very unique character a mix of freedom and intensity. It pushes you to be yourself, to stay authentic, and to express who you are as clearly as possible. The city is incredibly inspiring, and the studio where I work, Der Grimm, is a true treasure. I’m grateful to have the opportunity to be part of it.

What’s the most challenging tattoo you’ve ever done, and what did you learn from that experience?

For me, every tattoo is a challenge — an opportunity to grow beyond my previous self, to explore further, and to create something truly unique. I usually work on large-scale projects, so the trust my clients place in me is already a challenge in itself, and one I value deeply.

As part of pro teams like @vicecolors_official and @killerinktattoo, how do collaborations with brands and other artists impact your craft?

I think collaborating with brands like Vice, EZ, and Killer Ink helps you gain more visibility in the scene and gives you a great opportunity to show your work to a wider audience on top of having access to amazing tools and supplies.

What advice would you give to aspiring tattoo artists who want to develop their own signature style and build a loyal following?

To Have a vision, be patient, enjoy the workflow and be yourself, express yourself and try to little bit “package” your deliveryEverything else will come by itself !

What inspired you to specialize in anime and manga themes in your tattoo art?

From a very young age, anime was always on TV- shows like Dragon Ball, Naruto, and Sailor Moon were a constant part of my childhood I was immediately drawn to the visuals, and I've been drawing inspired by anime ever since I was a kid

As I grew older, anime and manga became more popular, and little by little I found myself diving deeper into that world Since I've been involved in art from such a young age, I've always been fascinated by the way anime and manga express facial emotions and feelings in a way that looks so simple, yet is incredibly precise and deeply emotional.

From a technical perspective, I also fell in love with the strong contrasts found in manga, the grainy-looking shading, the fine lines, and the tiny details. I truly fell in love with that visual language. So when I started tattooing, it was already clear to me from the very beginning that I wanted to specialize in anime and manga tattoos, and to try to translate the emotions that anime and manga make me feel into tattoo art

. How does living and working in Tokyo influence your creative process and artistic style?

Living in Tokyo gives me an incredible amount of inspiration On a daily basis, I'm constantly exposed to new anime and manga releases There are so many pop-up events, exhibitions, and collaborations related to anime and mangaalmost every new series that comes out is accompanied by some kind of event you can visit It's a natural and inseparable part of the culture here, so it truly exists everywhere

So many people in Tokyo read manga and watch anime, which means that when I talk to people, they often introduce me to new works and pull me even deeper into that world On top of that, there are countless collaborations with shops and even convenience stores It's everywhere - and beyond being inspiring, it's simply fun and comforting to be surrounded by it

In many other places I've lived, anime and manga felt more niche, and not many people shared my interests. I never felt strange or different - there are anime communities all over the world - but there is no doubt that in Japan there is absolutely no sense that this passion is unusual. Almost every person I speak to either watches anime or has watched it, and people who read manga and watch anime are incredibly common. It is deeply rooted in the culture, and you can truly feel that.

I also feel that being here gives me the opportunity to learn much more about this world and its history In the future, I'd love to learn more about how manga is actually created as well, because that's something I'm genuinely very interested in

What challenges do you face when translating vibrant anime and manga visuals into tattoo designs?

From a technical perspective, there are many challenges

A lot of manga artwork uses an etching style, where many fine lines are placed very close together to create light, shadow, and texture. When translating this into tattooing, it becomes tricky because over timeespecially with sun exposure- lines on the skin can expand slightly. If I tattoo the lines exactly as they appear in the manga, there's a risk that the area will heal too dark or lose its intended texture after a few years. So it's important to adapt that style in a way that works long-term on skin, because skin is not paper

Another challenge is shading. Manga often has many subtle shades and gradients, but paper is white- skin isn't. Depending on the client's skin tone, not every shade will be visible in the same way. Darker skin tones, for example, can't hold the same number of microshades as lighter ones, so the design has to be adjusted carefully.

When I start a tattoo, I always examine how many tones the skin can hold, and what technique will work best for that specific person. I adapt the shading, contrast, and number of values according to their skin tone and skin type, so the tattoo will look clear, readable, and beautiful for many years.

How do you approach customizing tattoos to reflect each client's personal connection to anime or manga?

When clients consult with me about their design, I usually start by asking what is personally important to them- which characters they love, and which specific scene or moment in the manga or story was meaningful to them. Then we talk about placement on the body, and together we choose a panel or composition that fits both the emotion they want to express and the location they selected. After that, I design the tattoo based on all of this, and I ask for a photo of the placement area on their body so I can tailor the design precisely.

On the day of the tattoo, we go over the design together again and make any final changes or additions if needed. I really like to keep the process collaborative, so the final piece truly reflects the client's personal connection to the story

What advice would you give to aspiring tattoo artists who want to develop a unique style in such a popular genre?

What advice would you give to aspiring tattoo artists who want to a unique style a popular genre?

I think artists who are starting out today and want to become tattoo artists need to think about a few important things. The first is passion- to honestly ask themselves if they truly love the style they are choosing. Of course, it's always possible to change styles, but once you start building an audience and a client base, changing direction can be difficult and sometimes feels like starting over. That's why it's so important to choose a style you genuinely love, because you need to be able to work in it every single day, for many years. Loving your style is what keeps your motivation strong in the long run.

The second thing is to think about what makes you unique- what you personally bring to the table. That can be your technique, your designs, the way you present your work, or something else entirely. Finding your own voice is essential.

The third is to consider whether the style has an audience and the potential to succeed. But for me, passion and artistry are always the most important. I truly believe there is an audience for every style- whether it's niche or more popular- even if it takes time to find it. If you stay consistent, work hard, and bring something special to the table, your audience will find you.

And of course, working hard to improve technically, to grow and evolve, is essential. Consistency is extremely important- and enjoying the process along the way is just as important too.

What drew you to realism tattooing, and how did you develop your skills in both black & grey and color styles?

In realism I feel the most at ease and free. I explored different styles at the beginning, but realism was the one that felt truly natural to me. For years I focused only on black & grey, which gave me a strong foundation in contrast, tone, and depth. Color came later, with a completely different technique, and it pushed me to grow even more. In the future, I want to take on more color projects, though black & grey will always stay close to my heart.

Can you describe your creative process when designing a tattoo that captures lifelike details?

Everything begins with choosing the right placement on the body I already start visualizing in my mind how I want the tattoo to look once it’s finished Then I search for the perfect reference when paying close attention to lighting, contrast, and resolution During the design process, I remove elements that aren’t important and try to keep the focus exactly where it needs to be This is how the tattoo comes to life and appears far more realistic than if every single area were packed with detail One of the most crucial aspects of a realistic tattoo is contrast. I love when a tattoo can be “read” clearly even from a distance.

How do you balance technical precision with artistic expression in your hyper-realistic tattoos?

Hyperrealism demands precision, but the magic happens when you allow yourself artistic decisions I never copy a reference one-to-one I adjust contrast, shift textures, and control light so the tattoo looks more alive on skin Technique gives the structure, but expression gives the soul

How does your Slovenian background influence your art, and what differences have you noticed working internationally, such as in Essen?

Growing up in Slovenia taught me discipline, precision, and respect for craft. The scene is small, so you learn to let your work speak for you Working abroad definitely exposed me to faster pace and clients who embrace bold ideas.
