What brought you to Canyon Creek? Where did you live before you came here?
The Schultz Family
H
ey neighbors! Meet the Schultz family! They’re from Wisconsin but got to Canyon Creek as fast as they could.
After leaving our home town and going to college together at the University of Wisconsin, Brent began working for Boeing at Johnson Space Center while Colleen attended law school at the University of Virginia and then moved to Houston. In 2010, we relocated to Dallas and initially lived in Lake Highlands. We decided to move to Canyon Creek for the natural beauty, great schools, and shorter commutes. What do you love most (so far) about living in Canyon Creek?
We love the big, beautiful trees, friendly neighbors, and the fun Halloween decorations on Ridge Crest Drive. Tells us a favorite story about your family (funny, sentimental, etc.).
We are Brent and Colleen Schultz. Our kids are Grant (7) and Cole (4). We also have a dog named Bella (11 in non-dog years).
We sabered a bottle of champagne with a sword while celebrating our first wedding anniversary in Whistler and ended up getting a saber of our own to help make celebrations with family and friends more festive. We hope to break it out at a future Canyon Creek Wine Society event!
Where do your kids attend school?
What do you do for hobbies or for fun?
Grant is a first grader at Prairie Creek Elementary, and Cole is in Pre-K at First United Methodist Church of Richardson.
We like to travel, cook together, cheer for the Wisconsin Badgers, attend theater and symphony shows, and watch bad reality television. Brent formerly blogged about television for The Houston Chronicle.
Share with us the names and ages of everyone living in your house, including your pets.
Tell us about your pets: Where did you get them? Do they have any unique tricks or quirks?
We adopted Bella from a rescue in Pearland. She is a sweet and shy Finnish Lapphund mix with a very crooked nose who loves the rare Texas snowfall and hates thunderstorms. What do you do for a living?
Brent is the chief of staff for Boeing in Richardson. Colleen is an in-house employment lawyer for Texas Instruments.
What do your kids do outside of school? Sports teams, etc. How do they like the neighborhood so far?
Grant plays baseball and tennis, and does gymnastics. He will be starting basketball soon and loves doing science experiments and making art. Cole does basketball, soccer, and dance, and loves “bad guys,” especially Darth Vader. Both boys love their new neighborhood and having lots of kids around. Anything else you would love for your new neighbors to know about you?
How did the two of you meet?
We are high school sweethearts from Watertown, Wisconsin. We met on a school trip to a Six Flags park near Chicago and started dating shortly after going to a Prince concert together in 1997 with mutual friends.
We look forward to meeting more of our neighbors out and about and participating in this fun community.
When did you move to Canyon Creek?
Thanksgiving morning means monkey bread and the Macy’s parade in our house. In the afternoon, we buy our Christmas tree at Sandone’s while the turkey roasts and decorate it.
We built a house with 3rd Street Custom Homes and moved in on December 28, 2017. 28
