GANGBOX GAZETTE

We are pleased to announce that Robert Fuller has been promoted to Director of Environmental Health and Safety! A valued member of the Cannistraro Safety Team for nine years, Bob has shown incredible dedication and leadership, especially over the past four months as interim leader. His ability to build strong connections across the office, shops, and field has been key to his success, and we’re confident that our safety culture and performance will only get stronger with him at the helm. Check out the Q&A with Bob below, where he shares insights about his role, key skills, and favorite sport.
1. Can you tell me about your position? What type of work do you do? What teams do you work with?
The role involves supporting the Cannistraro core value of “Safety” and continuously improving how we execute work by eliminating hazards and implementing engineering or administrative controls to limit risk. What I do day to day can be somewhat unpredictable—I wear a few hats—but to sum it up, the work I do is identifying and mitigating risk, whether it’s through planning, reviewing work plans, training, or bringing unsafe conditions to the attention of building partners or field leaders. I’m fortunate enough to work in some capacity with many people throughout Cannistraro, along with many of our building partners.
2. What is your favorite thing about safety?
My favorite thing about safety is the people I get to work with and overcoming challenges to complete work in a safe and efficient manner while sharing a few laughs and learning from our peers along the way. I also enjoy collaborating with Safety Professionals who work with Building Partners (and even competitors at times). We’re fortunate that the approach toward safety across the industry in Boston is pretty consistently, “we’re in this together—let’s get everyone home safe and get this job done.”
3. What skills or qualities do you think are essential for success in your position?
To be successful in Safety, you need to genuinely care about the people you work with and the overall success of the project—as the saying goes, “nobody cares about what you have to say until they know you care.” Another essential quality is being comfortable with conflict and handling external pressure from individuals or organizations that may not prioritize safety or could be introducing additional risks into the operation.
4. Do you have a favorite sports team? Any hobbies?
The Boston Bruins are my favorite sports team, and in my free time I enjoy golfing (even though I’m a hack) and traveling.
Collaboration is a core value at Cannistraro and continues to be a driving force behind our ongoing and future success in keeping our people safe. It’s thanks to the many great individuals here that we’ve created an environment positioning us to take the next step on our “Safety Journey,” becoming an industry leader in Planning and Executing work safely.
The prefix “Pre-” has been instrumental in helping us control what we can (eliminating hazards) while preparing for variables (planning for potential hazards) — from Pre-bid walks and Pre-Construction Planning (and coordination) to Pre-Mobilization walks and Pre-Task Plans. As a result, we’re seeing more “Good Catches” than “Near Misses” or “Incidents.”
Together, we’ve been approaching our day-to-day tasks with a stronger safety lens, which ultimately puts the end user in a better position for success. With an increase in planning at 201 Jones Rd, 25 FID, and various jobsites around the city, we’re primed for continuous improvement — learning from the past while fostering open and honest collaboration during retrospective meetings and craft council discussions.
I’m excited about what the rest of 2025 holds for us. Thanks to your hard work, we’re in a great position to execute upcoming projects even more safely and efficiently.
Keep Planning. Keep Collaborating. Keep Safe.

The Specials Hazards Group has been awarded a project consisting of two aircraft hangers for United Airlines at Newark Liberty International Airport. The project entails a complete replacement of the existing foam system, converting it to a PFAS-free system. The project scope includes a custom 3-pump, high-pressure foam skid delivering foam concentrate to each hanger via large stainless-steel piping. Over 33,000 feet of new piping will be installed in the hangers to deliver the foam/water solution to the hazards, discharging through sprinklers, hose stations, monitors and a structural column protection system. The team is currently in the planning stages working through some challenges that include complex hydraulic calculations,
custom equipment, maintaining the existing system online while paralleling a new one and preparing for installation at heights up to 95 feet. With foam concentrate volumes approaching 12,000 gallons and system flows exceeding 17,000 gallons per minute, this system is the largest Cannistraro has seen to date. Upon completion of construction, in addition to extensive foam testing, the system will be activated for a full-flow dump test of water.

Phishing is the act of tricking individuals into disclosing sensitive personal information through deceptive computer-based means. Cybercriminals often pose as trustworthy entities to steal usernames, passwords, or financial details. These attacks typically come in the form of suspicious emails, texts, or links that encourage the recipient to click on a link or open an attachment.
Our IT department has been conducting phishing tests to assess our vulnerability and improve our defenses. Here are the results from the recent campaigns:
In an initial test, 100 emails were sent, with 39% of users clicking on the link and 9% entering their credentials. In November 2024, a "Suspicious Account Activity" email was sent to 420 users, resulting in 11 failures (2.5%). In December 2024, an "Office 365 Password Notification" email was sent to 680 users, resulting in 55 failures (8%). In January 2025, a "Project Items Shared" email was sent to 580 users, resulting in 35 failures (6%).
To continue improving our security posture, we will proceed with regular phishing campaigns to keep our defenses sharp. Employee training through L&D will be ongoing to help employees recognize and respond to phishing attempts. We have also modified existing field devices to be trusted and are finalizing Workspace One for office employees to enhance our workspace security.
As a reminder from our recent town hall meeting, it is critical to stay vigilant when reviewing your emails. Be cautious of unexpected emails, even if they appear to come from familiar sources. Check for grammatical errors or unusual language that might indicate a
phishing attempt and avoid clicking on links or attachments unless you are confident about the sender’s identity.
If you receive anything that seems suspicious or unexpected, please report it to the IT Group immediately at itsupport@cannistraro.com. Your awareness and quick response are essential to ensuring the security of our network. Thank you for your attention to this important matter, and please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need further assistance.
Stay vigilant—scrutinize emails for unexpected requests, grammatical errors, or suspicious links.
Report any suspicious emails to the IT Group at itsupport@cannistraro.com immediately.

Cannistraro's Co-Op Program provides students with valuable, hands-on experience in a real-world work environment. Through meaningful projects and mentorship, participants gain practical skills while contributing to the company's day-to-day operations. The program serves as an opportunity for students to apply their academic knowledge, develop professional skills, and explore career paths in the construction industry.
We aim to build connections with universities and attract motivated students who are eager to learn. While the Co-Op experience is temporary, it also helps us identify potential future hires who align with our company’s needs and culture. With competitive compensation and exposure to industry professionals, our Co-Op Program offers students a solid foundation as they prepare for their careers.
We took the opportunity to sit down with our current Co-Op cohort and learn more about their experiences working at Cannistraro, the skills they’ve gained, and how working with us has influenced their career goals.
Working alongside talented professionals, I learned to navigate complex challenges, refine my technical abilities, and adopt innovative practices that have significantly influenced how I approach my work today. The exposure to various projects, along with the opportunity to collaborate in a dynamic, highpressure environment, provided me with a well-rounded foundation that continues to support my career progression.
Cedric Louis-Jean Intern, Plumbing
How has working with your team influenced your professional development?
"I’ve learned the importance of building relationships and networking. Having established connections can significantly speed up project progress, as trust is built between parties, making it easier to resolve any issues with a quick phone call."
Jeffy Le Co-Op, Service
What skills or knowledge have you gained during your Co-Op that you believe will be most valuable in your future career?
"Seeing the various sites and projects, and meeting so many people, has made each day enjoyable. The most valuable lesson I’ve learned is that it’s okay not to know everything because there is always a team or someone there to support you, no matter how small or large the problem may seem."
Connor McCaul Co-Op, Plumbing
What has been a highlight of your Co-Op experience?
"Having the opportunity to travel throughout the Boston metro area and capture videos of both active and completed job sites has been a highlight of my time here. Marketing for this industry has taught me a great deal about pushing beyond my comfort zone and embracing creativity in new ways.”
Leah Colwell Co-Op, Marketing
How do you think this Co-Op experience has prepared you for your future career?
"My Co-Op has provided me with a full-time office position where I work alongside people who are established in their careers and industries and have been working at Cannistraro for 10+ years. David Brunet
“I would like to give kudos to the plumbing foreman at the MGH CSP 4B Ragon project David Brunet Dave was an apprentice under my supervision in 2015 at the Boston Medical Center. It was easy to see that Dave was going to be a field leader some day early in his career and he sure has proven us all right. He has shown his ability to lead the ever-changing tasks inside the MGH campus for the last 7 years before he was asked to be the General Foreman at the Large MGH CSP 4B Ragon building. With little experience running large project work, Dave has shown his ability to adapt to anything thrown his way with extremely great results. It has been a rewarding experience watching him from start to finish and I am proud to say that Cannistraro has found a future leader for many years to come. I would like to thank him for making my life easy as the project manager on the current project he is on and I hope we can work on many more projects in the future together."
