Prince Edward Island

Youth in PEI will soon have access to a new diversion and educational justice program called Rethink, developed collaboratively by the Departments of Health and Wellness and Justice and Public Safety to teach youth prevention strategies and provide them with a better understanding of the risks related to cannabis use. Figr Brands, Inc., a vertically integrated legal cannabis company, announced its move into the Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia market, furthering the company’s move towards becoming available nationwide. Figr’s cannabis products are now available for purchase from online and through private retail outlets.

Newfoundland & Labrador

Almost a year after it was launched, Operation Rhino — the brainchild of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Drug Investigation Unit — resulted in the seizure of $6 million in illicit cannabis and other substances and equipment in St. John’s.

Nova Scotia

The NSLC released its year-end financial results today for April 1, 2019 to March 31, 2020, reporting a 4.2% increase in earnings. Nova Scotia produced cannabis accounted for 18.3% of cannabis sales this year at $13 million. Overall sales performance was driven by the first full fiscal year of cannabis sales, the introduction of new cannabis categories, sales growth in all local product categories and an influx of sales resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.

New Brunswick

Cannabis NB released the unaudited first quarter results for the 2020-21 fiscal. Total sales of legal recreational cannabis for the quarter ended June 28, 2020 (13 weeks) were $16.3 million, 78.7% higher than the quarter ended June 30, 2019 (13 weeks) and resulted in a $1.4 million profit for the organization. Key trends for the first quarter (March 30, 2020 – June 28, 2020) compared to the first quarter of last year (April 1, 2019 – June 30, 2019) were: dried flower sales increased 49.1%, up by $3.8 million; accessories sales increased 62.3%, up by $0.2 million; extracts sales increased 7.1%, up by $0.07 million; concentrates represented 14.4%, of sales for the quarter at $2.3 million edibles represented 4.6% of sales for the quarter at $0.8 million.

Yukon / Northwest Territories / Nunavut Indiva Limited has expanded distribution to Yukon Territory, increasing the Company’s distribution network to eight provinces and one territory. “We are thrilled to grow our distribution network to eight provinces and one territory across Canada,” Niel Marotta, Indiva’s president and Chief Executive Officer, said. / The Northwest Territories Liquor and Cannabis Commission (NTLCC) announced that it has reduced the price of all cannabis products by 10%. NTLCC’s decision to reduce prices supports the objective to eliminate illegal cannabis sales in the Northwest Territories. With close to two years of legal sales, NTLCC has a better understanding of the operating costs associated with the distribution and sale of cannabis and is confident that it can reduce the price of these products while continuing to maintain a safe and secure retail regime. / In mid-June the Government of Nunavut opened the application process for retail cannabis locations in the territory, just one contender has stepped forward according to an article in Nunavut News. Nuna Cannabis Ltd. is seeking to set up shop in Iqaluit. Public feedback on that proposal can be sent to the GN until Aug. 20.
