I hope you enjoyed our Golden Anniversary celebrations which ran from July to September. We’re now planning the next fabulous fifty years for the Club!

Our next big celebration is Christmas Day. I’m delighted that all our venues will be open again on Christmas Day this year. It’s a special day for the Club where we get to host thousands of Members while they enjoy time with family and friends – without the washing up! All the details are on page 5 of your Members magazine.

Another project we’ve embarked on is providing more outdoor entertainment spaces for you to enjoy. The most anticipated has been the reopening of Snapper & Co. by the lake at the Yacht Club. Open from early October, it will be the best place to enjoy the outdoors this summer. Read all about it on pages 6 and 7.

We’re also bringing improved outdoor areas to our other venues. We welcome The Laneway at Tuggeranong and The Yard at Jamison to our hospitality offer. Both will be open ready for summer and will be great places to enjoy the warm weather.

Our health and wellness team has also been busy putting together some compelling offers to join our gyms and swim school.

To ensure the kids are ready for summer at the beach, take advantage of our Swim into Spring offer on page 14. If you’ve got a few winter layers you’d like to shed before you don the bikini or the Speedos, then page 13 of this edition of your Members magazine is lucky for you! There’s a great offer to join one of our gyms, and because we’re aligned to the Anytime Fitness network, one membership enables you to visit all 3,000 Anytime Fitness gyms worldwide.

Finally, if you haven’t downloaded our Members' app, please do so. It means no more searching your wallet or purse for your Membership card when you enter the Club or purchase food or drinks. Christmas Day at the Club

Yacht Club

Celebrate Christmas at the Yacht Club with a four course lunch and bottomless drinks from our curated beverage list. Start with our fresh Australian seafood platter, then enjoy lobster thermidor, before a traditional Christmas main course of turkey and ham. Finish the meal with a delicious Buche de Noel for dessert. Doors open at 11am for 12 noon start. Tickets are $250 per person, or $95 per child under 12 years.

MV Southern Cross

Enjoy a special Christmas lunch cruise on the MV Southern Cross. You’ll love our fresh Australian seafood platter and salads, followed by a traditional Christmas feast of ham and turkey, then finish with our Buche de Noel. A premium drinks package is included. Departs from Yacht Club jetty at 12 noon and returns at 3pm. Tickets are $250 each, or $95 per child under the age of 12.

Woden • Tuggeranong • Jamison Indulge in a festive three course menu starting with fresh Australian seafood. Enjoy a traditional main with our ham and turkey duo, then finish with a delicious dessert buffet.

Woden and Jamison will feature a buffet for main and dessert, while Tuggeranong will have a plated main. Each venue offers two sittings. Tickets are $125 each, or $60 per child under the age of 12.

You'll be living it up lakeside at Snapper & Co� with fabulous new dining areas and the fish and chips Canberra loves�

Launched in 2014, Snapper has become one of Canberra’s most loved locations to enjoy fresh fish and chips overlooking Lake Burley Griffin. Canberra's favourite fish and chippery has undergone an exciting makeover, launching in October.

The kitchen has doubled in size, giving our Chefs the opportunity to add new products to the menu. Gourmet burgers and pizzas will join the lineup, and our seafood offerings will increase. New shared options including charcuterie plates and cheese boards are sure to become favourites for lazy afternoons with friends and family.

The menu isn't the only thing changing. You'll still be able to enjoy Snapper & Co. takeaway on the lawns as usual, with the addition of plated meals to be served in the licensed courtyard, or in our new indoor dining area.

With the removal of the marquee last year, we also welcome The Deck at Snapper & Co., providing the full al fresco restaurant experience.

Enjoy full table service in this new space, designed to take in the beautiful location while providing protection from the elements.

The Yacht Club Restaurant continues to operate as usual, along with the popular upstairs balcony available to diners.

We hope you will love our new space this spring and summer as much as we do. Snapper & Co. opening hours will be 11am–8pm during the week and 8am–8pm on weekends.

Outdoors come alive!

Our venues at Tuggeranong and Jamison are getting ready for you to relax in the great outdoors with exciting new spaces�

We are thrilled to be working on some new and exciting outdoor areas for our Members and their guests to enjoy over the warmer months at Tuggeranong and Jamison.

Jamison's exciting upgrade is called The Yard, and includes a new outdoor bar, enhanced lighting and comfortable lawn seating (shown above and right) to enjoy a drink and meal while you relax and soak up the warmer weather.

Offering tap beers, selected wines, and sparkling as well as an enticing food offer, we are sure our Members will love it as much as we do. You'll be able to join us in The Yard from mid-October.

Tuggeranong will come alive with a vibrant pop-up space, The Laneway, located between the Club and the Southern Cross Stadium. This pop-up event, running from November to March, offers a completely new experience. Our large outdoor screen, live entertainment, and a relaxed and casual atmosphere will keep you entertained throughout the warmer months.

We are excited to bring this unique space to life, pictured above and right. Focussing on easy eating and quality beverage selections, The Laneway will be an excellent space for after work drinks and a great way to ease into the festive season.

Modifications to The Yard and The Laneway will commence in the coming weeks, and we look forward to sharing these spaces with you.

Our learn to swim program at Stellar Swim is based on the Royal Life Saving Society’s Swim and Survive program. Celebrating fifty years

Our venues came alive in early July with exciting installations, events and dinners to celebrate our first fifty years.

Our commemorative products, made in collaboration with local suppliers Underground Spirits, Capital Brewing Co., Lake George Winery and Lonsdale Street Roasters have been a hit, with some selling out quickly.

Our cookbook, A Recipe for Success, features an array of classic dishes from our first fifty years. Recipes were provided by our leading chefs, with the stories and memories from our Club's history spread among the pages.

We also hosted the 'Recipe for Success' dinner series at Woden, Tuggeranong and Jamison to mark this milestone anniversary. Diners at each event were treated to a four course menu comprising of dishes from our cookbook, with matched wines, live music and gift bags as we reminisced on years gone by.

Turning fifty with a bang, we hosted our gala event, One Golden Night, at Woden on Friday 26 August. It was a spectacular night featuring performances by Hayley Jensen, Opera by Disguise, and Hit Parade, alongside a delightful five course menu with matched beverages.

We have been celebrating our 50th anniversary over the last few months, with a range of commemorative events for you to enjoy�

Fifty lucky Members found a Golden Ticket and received an invitation to our exclusive cocktail party where every Golden Ticket holder won a prize. The major prize of $50,000 cash was won by lucky number 11, pictured right with Matt Walshe and Huw Bennett.

A special edition of Jazz at the Cross on Sunday 25 September was a grand finale to our 50th anniversary celebrations, presented in partnership with the Canberra Jazz Club. Guests enjoyed the very best of traditional jazz, with a performance from the State Summit Allstars.

Thank you for your support over our first fifty years, we look forward to celebrating our next milestone with you!

Sunday and Holiday Surcharge

You may know that we are experiencing an unprecedented period of increasing cost of goods, as well as wage increases.

Regrettably, we have had to introduce a 10% surcharge on Sundays and public holidays. We have not taken this decision lightly and we thank you for your ongoing support.

Joel's Great Walk

Our CFO, Joel Lieschke, will join CEOs, community leaders and senior executives, as they walk the 142km Centenary Trail in November to raise much needed funds for our Community Rewards partner, Menslink.

Stellar Swim Intensive Program

We will be taking a break from Learn to Swim lessons from Monday 19 December 2022 to Monday 23 January 2023. During this break, you can continue to develop you child's skills in the water at our School Holiday Intensive Programs.

Roundabout Canberra

Local charity

Roundabout Canberra provides safe and clean baby and children's items to families in need, through their network of community and not-for-profit organisations. They rehome pre-loved baby and children's items to local families in need, helping Canberra families with children from newborns through to teenagers.

This year, Roundabout has helped over 1,900 children in the Canberra region, using Club contributions from our Community Rewards Program to process donations of clothing, books, feeding items, baby baths, booster seats and more. They also support their workforce of over 250 volunteers and purchase new items for families as needed.

Currently, Roundabout are in particular need of school related items such as backpacks, lunchboxes, and drink bottles for children up to age 16, toiletries, and high quality prams suitable for newborns. Bosom Buddies ACT

Bosom Buddies was established over 25 years ago in Canberra by a group of women diagnosed with breast cancer. Bosom Buddies is a small local charity that provides peer support to women and men recently diagnosed with breast cancer.

Bosom Buddies volunteers conduct workplace and community presentations and distribute shower tags explaining how to check for early signs of cancer. They also provide activities such as coffee mornings where members can access peer support, information and share a relaxed, social setting.

In collaboration with other charities, Bosom Buddies provides information and helpful items, including drainage bags and cushions for use after surgery. These are packed in Buddy Bags and provided to patients by breast care nurses. To date, 600 bags have been assembled by Bosom Buddies volunteers at Calvary Hospital.

As a small home-grown charity that relies on volunteers and the generosity of donations, Bosom Buddies really appreciates the ongoing support of the Canberra Southern Cross Club, allowing them to continue making a quiet and valuable impact to the lives of many in the Canberra region.

Tuggeranong Titans

The Tuggeranong Titans ultimate frisbee team recently received one of our Community Grants, enabling them to give each player a custom shoe bag for their cleats.

The Titans will be playing the Canberra Ultimate Premier League Grand Final in October – their third Grand Final appearance since their Club was established in 2019. Best of luck, Titans!

Ten years of Covenant Care

Recently our CEO Ian Mackay and COO Matt Walshe (left to right below, with hospice clients Beverly and Barry) attended the tenth birthday celebration for Holy Covenant Care’s Day Hospice program. Our team at Jamison have provided a weekly meal to this fabulous service for many years. The free hot lunch provides Day Hospice clients with a delicious meal in good company, while giving their carers a much needed break.
