Dear Residents,

The calendar turns over to a new month and we inch closer to spring. I believe I am not alone when I say spring and warmer weather cannot come too soon.Daylight Saving Time begins at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 12 this year. Time to move your clock forward one hour before going to bed Saturday night.

Here are a few important dates to look forward to in March:

· March 8 is International Women’s Day, which is a day that not only celebrates the achievements of women and the progress made toward women’s rights, but also brings attention to ongoing struggles for equality around the world.

· March 17 is St. Patrick’s Day, the day commemorates Saint Patrick and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland and celebrates the heritage and culture of the Irish in general. Celebrations generally involve public parades and festivals, céilithe, and the wearing of green attire or shamrocks.

· March 20 brings about the March equinox—also called the vernal or spring equinox in the Northern Hemisphere—marking the beginning of spring. In the Southern Hemisphere, this date marks the autumnal equinox and the beginning of fall. On this day, the Sun stands directly over Earth’s equator.

· March 22 marks the start of Ramadan, which begins at sundown on that day. In Islam, Ramadan is considered a holy month when a month-long, sunrise-to-sunset fast is observed.

This month is when the flowers start blooming and the spring officially begins. It is typically a month full of surprises. Some days are warm and sunny while few days can still send a chill down your spines; however, make the most out of this and enjoy the lovely weather outside.
