DEDICATION Camp Avoda has been in existence since 1927. For over 89 years, thousands have come and gone down Gibbs Road, swam in Lake Tispaquin, and aged with the Avodian way of life. Only one, however, can call himself the fifty-year veteran, Paul Gordon Davis. One could say that Davis is the most influential Avodian that has ever existed, even more so than the founder Judge Samuel Barnett, and they wouldn’t be wrong. Without the big man on campus, Avoda would be a completely unrecognizable place to its campers, counselors, and alumni. No explanation is needed for why this year’s Avodian is dedicated to this great man. Almost singlehandedly, this one man has kept things running at Avoda with no break. He has been

the man in charge whether it comes to keeping track of finances, putting together the best staffs, or cracking down on beanie thieves and table bangers. One must remember that his greatest feat is not being here for fifty years, but is how he’s treated his job and shaped it into something no one else would be able to replicate. He knows when it’s the right time to be stern, when it’s the right time to be benovelent, and when it’s the right time to tell a story. Davis has a story telling ability that will pull even the most dazed camper in. He brought a spark to this year’s bonfire by telling the story of the Tispaquinn loony, which sent chills down the spine of every camper around. Davis of course has never failed to show how

musically inclined he is. The first meal has always started with the welcome song, every evening activity in the rec hall ends with the camp Alma mater, and every Friday night he chants the Shabbat prayers. There is so much that can be said about the one and only PGD, but certainly not on one page. The mac n’ cheese hating, spelling bee leading, beanie patrolling, head honcho truly knows what it means to be an Avodian. He has had a great effect on more lives than any typical person could say they’ve ever had. One can only imagine a summer without the chants of “P…G…D…” This 2015 Avodian is dedicated to Paul G. Davis and the fifty years of service he has spent at the greatest place in the world.

Paul G. Davis

Executive Director’s Final Message The end of an amazing run is right around the corner. I thought this time would never come. I look back over the past 50 years and I think about the wonderful times spent here on the shores of Lake Tispaquin. There are so many special moments, it would be impossible to name them all. What I do remember fondly are the thousands of great campers, their parents, the terrific staff members, administrators, and Board members. Everyone has made my time so special here at Avoda. I particularly wish to single out one person who will carry on the wonderful Camp Avoda traditions. That person is Ken Shifman. I know the camp is in good hands with Ken at the helm. It has been a pleasure working with him these past 8 years. I am always a phone call away if he needs assistance. I want to express my thanks to my immediate family, especially my lovely wife, Bobbie, the first lady of Camp Avoda for the past 47 years. She started at Avoda just after we were married and has always stood by me, giving me her encouragement and support and candid observations. My daughter, Deborah, and my son, Jeffrey, have also been there for me when I needed them. Both were newborns when they arrived at camp and they grew up there. Once Deb was old enough, she attended Camp Pembroke as a camper and later became a counselor. Jeff was a camper and staff member at Avoda for many, many years. Many people over the years have asked me if I attended Avoda as a camper. Unfortunately, I did not. I had never heard of Camp Avoda while I was growing up. I attended a YMCA camp in New Hampshire when I was young, first as a camper and then as the administrative assistant to the director. After that I was a counselor at our biggest rival, Camp Bauercrest, and then assistant program director there.

I first heard about Camp Avoda via my cousin, who had been reading the Jewish Advocate and she came across an advertisement for a Program Director at Avoda. She shared the ad with me, and I said what the heck, I think I will apply. Nothing to lose. Subsequently, on a very snowy Sunday in December of 1965, I traveled out to Natick for an interview with the then Director, Mark Federman, who had been on the job for 2 years. I almost did not keep the appointment because of the snowstorm. Though I was hoping that Mark would postpone our meeting, he did not, and I drove to his home during a blizzard. After many hours of questioning, Mark tentatively offered me the position pending a review of my references and a meeting with Judge Samuel Barnet, the Treasurer and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the camp. Nothing was done without the approval of the Judge. A week so later, in better weather, I traveled to New Bedford for that interview. Again, after many hours of questioning, I was finally offered the position of Program Director/Head Counselor. And as they say, the rest is history. Though I had never heard of Camp Avoda prior to arriving 50 years ago, I have made sure that everyone throughout New England and throughout the country has become familiar with the camp and our wonderful traditions. I have seen thousands of campers and hundreds of staff members sitting under our tall Avoda pines, playing ball on our field, and swimming in the placid waters of Lake Tispaquin. Thanks to our active Alumni Association, many of our former campers and staff have returned here year after year to relive the fond memories of their youth. Remarkable things happen to kids when they live for two, four, six, or eight weeks at Avoda, a beautiful place that is staffed by first-rate counselors and superb

administrators who run an amazing program. We are so fortunate to have found an outstanding replacement for me in Ken Shifman, a person who started as a camper at Avoda, then became a counselor, took many years off, and then returned as our Director in 2008. I am confident that the camp is in good hands under Ken’s direction. At Avoda, boys form new friendships--deep friendships that last years after our campers stop going to camp. As a matter of fact, that last a lifetime. Our alumni tell us that these friendships are the most significant and enduring part of their Avoda experience. Many alumni have since repeated a quotation from a former camper,“You don’t join Avoda for just a summer. You join for a lifetime!” I have worked with some wonderful people over the past 50 years, too numerous to mention, but one name sticks out above all others: Stanley Miller. Stan was a camper, counselor, head counselor, and finally Director of the camp in 1953. Stan eventually joined the Board of Directors in 1968 and became President of the Board in the 70s, a position he held for 20 years. With his guidance and friendship I was able to succeed in this position, where most of the previous directors were not. As a matter of fact, no Director before me lasted more than 4 years under the Judge. I am glad to say that I broke that mold. AVODA means SERVICE, and I have tried to be of service to the many, many campers and staff I have known and loved over the past 50 years. I will not be a stranger. In my newly appointed position as a member of the Avoda Board of Directors, I will be making numerous visits to the place I call my second home. So long and farewell my friends.

JILL SHIFMAN

Ken Shifman Director’s Message

Thank you all – campers, staff, CIT’s, specialty staff, nurses, kitchen staff, maintenance crew, administrators, and Jill – for making the summer of 2015 so successful! At Camp Avoda food is very important. We like our Greek yogurt, our bagels, our grilled cheese sandwiches, pasta, falafel, and buffalo wings! Since we have done away with allowing food in the bunks, we have aimed higher to get healthy and keep camp clean. With this initiative came the advent of the Night-time Snack Time. What started out as a means to end has turned into something special. Snack time at night is a model of most Camp Avoda activities: starts small, gathers momentum, becomes infused with Avoda spirit and Avoda details, builds, becomes tradition, and is embraced. The “bugle” to signal snack time is not really a bugle, it’s the “Ice Cream Truck Music.” When we play it you can hear campers all over camp yell “Snack time!” and drop what they are doing to see how we will distribute the snack. There are three ways it can happen: The first is that we meet in the Mess Hall. People

meander in with their PJ’s on (usually around 8:45 – 9:00 PM, after showers), hang out, play ping pong, sit at the head table and chat, play cards. It’s social! Camp Avoda promotes social skills, comfort, and community. Campers like to help. A handful come into the kitchen and help with the milk, fruit, snacks, serving. It’s fun – at Avoda people like to get involved. That’s half the fun! The second way to hand out snack is via the White Truck – which morphs into the snack truck. Campers wait patiently as the truck drives around the field. We deliver right to the bunk in under 30 minutes or the snack is free! Again – helping out on the truck is a fun way to get involved. The third way to distribute the snack is to have the actual ice cream truck come to camp! Everyone loves when that happens. Keeping traditions going and starting new ones is a balancing act. We can thank Paul G. Davis for his 50 years of maintaining, fostering, creating, and managing traditions. Paul Davis is responsible for the majority of the program and traditions you see today. Bagels for breakfast Saturday AM? Mr. Davis. Flag Rush? Mr. Davis. Color War Songfest? Mr. Davis. These are just a few.

So as Director, I will start with Snack Time. The new day camp initiative. Freshman Night out during Color War.And a few more initiatives that we have started in the last few years that have stuck. The goal is to improve camp by building on traditions, changing with the demands of the world around us to ensure a safe, fun, enriching, character building, and friendship-fostering experience. I have big shoes to fill! Following someone who has been at the helm of an organization for 50 years is daunting. I have already learned a lot from Paul these last eight years and thankfully he will be on the board of directors starting this fall. He is hopefully only a phone call away. And I expect to see him visit camp often next summer! Paul - Congratulations on a wonderful milestone. Thank you for a lifetime of fun memories that everyone still talks about: Color War highlights, our unique programs, pranks, and more. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication that has brought us all together not just during the summer, but permanently in each other’s lives. Thank you for an amazing Camp Avoda experience and community. Thank you for largely making me who I am today – and my friends around me.

Gary Rabinowitz Assistant Director’s Message

I’m amazed at a quiet ocean I’m amazed at your warm devotion I’m amazed at what the people sayin’ My Morning Jacket I’m amazed at the sunrise over Tispaquin. I’m amazed at the full moon over camp. I’m amazed at the legion of people connected to and dedicated to 23 Gibbs Road. I’m amazed at the creativity, sensitivity, productivity and empathy of our staff. I’m amazed by Camp Avoda every day and feel honored to be part of this family.

There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t feel privileged to work at Camp Avoda. Being immersed in a loving, caring, supportive, loyal and fun environment is something that doesn’t come along all that often. Generally, we rush through our days, weeks, months and years and don’t take time to appreciate what and who is around us. That is not the case here at 23 Gibbs Road. Everyone loves Camp Avoda and does their best to help it succeed and grow. The friendships that are cemented here are lifelong bonds that hold true through zenithal joys and through unfathomable hardships. We have witnessed both this past year in the world of Camp Avoda. Feeling infinitely proud to be an Avodian this summer was compounded because of both elements at either end of the emotional spectrum.

First, we paid tribute to Adam “Bubba” Miller, who passed away in February of this year. The immeasurable sadness that swept across the Avoda community could only be balanced by the incalculable positive impact that Adam had on campers, staff and Camp Avoda as a whole. To be able to witness the outpouring of love that has been cascaded towards Bubba is quite simply life altering. Bubba bled blue and white and in doing so, exhibited every ideal we hope to instill in each member of our community. When July 25 rolled around and Avoda was honoring Adam by bringing together family and friends to see the Bubba’s Backstop dedication, all I could do was feel blessed that I had the good fortune to know Bubba and have the opportunity to see the chain reaction of love and appreciation. As with any successful relationship, Bubba made Avoda a better place and Avoda helped Bubba become a better man. Thank you 1000 times Bubbs! The other half of the emotional spectrum and the reason I feel even more blessed than on a regular day is the fact that I have been present for the PGD50 summer. Prior to returning to Avoda in 2013, the last time I stepped foot on Avoda soil or saw PGD was in 1979. The brilliant illumination of the moon on Tispaquin remained, the shower house remained, bunk 14 remained, the love remained, the spirit, brotherhood, honor, and tradition remained and the driving force behind all of it remained.

Paul G. Davis - He is Camp Avoda and his leadership and direction has impacted every facet of how we conduct ourselves. His presence helps guide us during the good times and helps us persevere through the challenging moments. His voice echoes through generations of Avodians and he will forever be the face of our community. Thank you PGD for your guidance, leadership, understanding, friendship and forgiveness. Thank you Ken for carrying the torch. You make the difficult seem manageable, and you display what a leader is and how one should act at every turn. Thanks for showing us the way, being patient, kind, nurturing, allowing all of us to learn and feel comfortable in our own skin. You are a true friend and mentor. Foxy and Leon. You are the absolute best brood I have ever worked with. Hands down, you guys are the glue that keeps Avoda heading in the right direction. Your collaboration and friendship are invaluable. I am grateful for every moment that we get to work together. To the 2K15 staff and CIT’s. You rock. You killed it this year and each and every one of you should feel proud of how you impacted the camper’s lives in a positive manner. Keep on rockin’ guys. Thanks to Camp Avoda for another memorable summer filled with laughter, learning, growth, friendships, love and even a few bumps and bruises. How many days until we start the 2K16 summer?

Just like any typical breakfast for Bunk 2, counselour Will Holtz was too lazy to get himself milk. Instead, he asked camper Max Scribner to toss him the milk from the drink window. Scribner, of course, was too afraid to throw the milk, so Cameron Sherman, known for his bad arm, stepped up to the plate and attempted the throw. He whipped the milk at Will, however his throw was off by a good three feet, sending Benny Hassenberg’s glass of chocolate milk flying off of the table. To the campers’ a m u s e m e n t , chocolate milk soaked the table as the campers of bunk 2 praised Cam for his bad throw. On a typical day in bunk 4, you might see a friendly card game, Ryder Goldshlag telling people to get off his bed, and sometimes, Brett Itchkow and Noah Kranowitz will have a very intense scientific conversation. Bottom line is, bunk 4 is always fun. Dot-dots… the basket… crispy m&m’s are back… Ryder’s bed… Philbert…5:00 AM…Urinal mystery…

One bunk night during the first month, Bunks 3 and 4 decided to play Beach Flagrush. As we all had fun playing on the sand, Noah Ross of Bunk 4 decided to try something new. After going on offense and taking a flag, he turned the rules around as he pulled a defenders sock. At the end of the day, we all laughed and enjoyed the rest of the night in the bunks.

For the first bunk night in Bunk 5, we all voted on playing a game of manhunt. Eventually, it turned into a game of football and everyone had lots of fun. When we finished playing, we all went back into the bunks and enjoyed some pizza and cartoons to end a great night.

The crazy bunk 6, where do I even start? Never have I met a wilder, crazier, louder or more fun group of kids. Day one, it already seemed like every one of you guys was bonding and becoming great friends. For those of you who didn’t know bunk 6 while it lasted, here goes nothing: Max started off quiet and grew to love being loud; Adin was always loud and outgoing; Zack and Cheese, I was beyond amazed it took you only 2 weeks to finish around 2,500 pages of reading (just a guess); David’s maturity was the only thing keeping everyone else from tearing the bunk apart; And Jake… I hope you haven’t gone insane yet roughing it out in Paris. Jacob Winn wanted to help cleanup so he went to the closet to get a broom. When he opened the door, a chipmunk flew out at him. Everyone started yelling as the chipmunk fled into the bathroom. We all stopped cleaning and we shut the door. Caden Puccio, Max Scribner, and Stelly were trapped inside the bathroom, but Caden used a fire extinguisher and chased it outside the bunk.

The summer of 2015 was one to remember for Bunk 14. With 31 campers and four counselors in the cabin, you might think there would be a lot of arguing and unhappy campers; as it turned out, our bunk came together very well. One thing that stuck out was building the 4th of July bonfire together. We stayed up late the night before collecting wood and constructing the fire, which was a great time even though it was hard work. Also, a Karaoke session led by Jake Romanow was key in helping us pass the time. After the fire was finally finished, we all ran into the lake and swam and messed around to wash off all the sweat and dirt. It was one of the best nights of the summer. 2015 BUNK 14

BUNK 14 OVERNIGHT

A few weeks into camp, Bunk 14 woke up early and boarded the vans, excited for one of the best trips of the summer. After a quick stop for breakfast, all 31 campers and 5 counselors prepared for what they thought would be a grueling 2 hour drive to Hampton Beach, New Hampshire. As it turned out, the van ride was one of the best parts of the overnight. Thanks to Max Waltzman’s auxiliary cord, Leon’s van bumped tune after tune, singing (yelling) and pounding the roof nearly the whole time. When 14 arrived at the beach, everyone piled out of the vans and prepared for the traditional scavenger hunt. After waiting for Jake Romanow to soak himself in sunscreen, the

36

bunk broke into groups for the hunt. 14ers scattered across the beach and boardwalk, taking pictures of themselves as they completed the tasks on the list. Eli, Max, Ty, Jake, and Drew were the victors, finishing almost all of the assignments including kissing a random baby on the forehead (with the parents’ consent of course) and getting their nails painted. After the scavenger hunt, 14 hopped back into the vans and headed for Camp Moxie, Maine. The drive was long, but the campers were sustained by a fruitless search for moose. Lefty and Noddell were very upset that no one had seen any moose during the drive, so when the bunk arrived at the campsite,

the two ventured out on a late night moose hunt. Again, they were unsuccessful. The next day, the bunk enjoyed a wild day of white water rafting. All of the campers braved the rapids and had a great time getting splashed and tossed around. After leaving the river, 14 went out to eat and then hit the hay. The following morning, the campers got back in the vans for a long ride back to camp. Before getting back to Avoda, the bunk tucked into an amazing dinner at Maggiano’s in Boston. 14 feasted on Calamari, Chicken Parmesan, and Fettuccini Alfredo. Overall, the 14 Overnight was a very successful trip and a great way to spice up the first month of camp.

After a long week consisting of the Avoda tournament, a social, and the Red Sox trip, the majority of Bunk 14 departed for the waters of the Delaware River. The first stop was Action Park, a waterpark filled with exhilarating rides and activities. After that, we headed to the campsite for a relaxing night by the fire. The next day, we woke up and headed straight to the frigid waters of the Delaware. As bunk 14 embarked on their 7-mile journey, all had success besides Jake Romanow and Tyler Goldstein, capsizing on numerous occasions. Later that day, the campers on the trip had the option to zip line or

42

play paintball. Paintball was the popular choice and top performers were Ben Simmons and Brett Litner. On the final day, we enjoyed time in New York City before returning back to Avoda.

50 YEARS T R I B U T E S E C T I O N OF

PAUL G. DAVIS

ETERNALAWESOME WISE AUTHENTIC LEGEND COMMITTED HELPING MUSICAL KIND FASCINATING NICE FUNNY CAMPY CREATIVE PASSIONATE COOL DEDICATED INSPRING 50 Words for 50 Years of PGD

50 YEARS OF Year

after year, summer after summer, Paul Gordon Davis (the infamous PGD) has committed his time, heart, and essentially his life to ensuring Camp Avoda’s future. Paul began his time at Avoda in 1966 after working as an assistant director for Camp Bauercrest. Right off the bat, he began taking on many roles, starting as a Program Director/ Head Counselor/ Assistant Director. Although evidently, his title never dictated what he was willing to do, it wasn’t until 1972 that he officially became Camp Director. From then on, Mr. Davis went back and forth between administrative positions before finally teaming up with our very own Ken Shifman as the Executive Director in 2008. While there are endless stories and attributes of PGD to be told, after asking around, there were a few constants that stuck out - one of which

PAUL G. DAVIS

being his famously inconceivable memory. Specifically, people seem to love that Davis is able to remember nearly every campers’ (new or old) name, his parents’ names, and even their addresses. “He’s a walking encyclopedia” was often used to describe how knowledgeable Mr. Davis really is. While reaching out to a few Alumni, I came across a very unique memoir from our board member and long-time alumnus Tom Leavitt. The story is one that depicts a side of PGD some may have never heard. In the summer of 1971, there was a brutal demonstration of anti-Semitism spraypainted onto Avoda’s courts. In spite of this, Mr. Davis proceeded to walk the entire camp out to the defacement, allowing for every camper to see what had been written. Rather than shying away from the issue or trying to shelter his campers from an ugly reality,

Mr. Davis was able to take advantage of the situation, turning the event around and providing an important lesson to an important group of kids. PGD is a figure that Avoda has thrived off of for 50 years now, and it’s hard to imagine this place without him. Whether it’s saying the prayers correctly, beanie patrol, or squashing extraneous announcements, Mr. Davis is always on his game despite his innumerous responsibilities. It’s hard to believe that one man has been the heart and soul of Camp Avoda for 50 years now, but it’s even harder to believe that he could ever leave. Committing his life to the Avodian way, PGD embraces (if not created) every aspect of camp one can imagine. There is no one in this world that has had such an immense impact on Avoda.

DEPARTMENT SECTION

What a year it’s been for the 2014 Bunk 14! While this summer brought many new challenges to the CITs, they were almost always up to the task of making this summer run smoothly. Being a CIT is an interesting “job” to have for the summer, as they aren’t campers anymore, but they aren’t counselors either. Even though at times the 2015 CITs were not the most efficient or patient bunch of kids, each one of them brought their own personality to the table that made dealing with us (and our shenanigans) a little easier. Under the careful watch of Jake Dennis, Aaron Rubin, Josh Cohen

54

(first month), and AJ Felberbaum (second month), this year’s group of CITs now has what it takes to make great Avoda counselors in the future.

Leading services with Wes this past summer has been an absolute pleasure due to the incredible participation and passion of the campers and staff members. After a long week of competitive sports and excitement, going to services provided a much-needed break to relax and reflect. Bunk 14 was always there to help set up and did a great job of setting an example at the chapel site throughout the summer. Brett Itchcow was a standout, and was always ready to lend a helping hand. Thanks to all for a great summer of judaica.

AVODA TOURNAMENT As usual, tensions were high as the Avoda Tournament slowly crept up on all of us. Between field trips, overnights, socials, and all the above, it was pretty difficult to fit practices in this summer. However, in spite of it all, Avoda gave it their all in the one and only 2015 Avoda Tournament. There are generally four major athletic events that stick out here at Avoda: Color War, Desert War, League, and the Avoda Tournament. That being said, the tournament is the only event in which Avoda competes against other camps, making it a highlight of every summer. After an eventful afternoon, Avoda made it to three championship games, but was not victorious in any. It had been the first time in over ten years since we had not won at least one of three events. In spite of this, our sportsmanship outweighed the losses as we shook hands with the enemy to end the day.

OPENING DAY

After ten long months enduring the hardships of school, Avoda welcomed all of its campers. As incomers greeted staff and fellow bunkmates one after another, they began saying their good-byes to their parents. The campers started the year with the annual first lunch, grilled cheese. After filling their stomachs, campers

76

were introduced to the waterfront, as well as going to athletics, the infirmary, and elective sign-ups. Despite there being no evening activity since it was a Friday, the traditional opening-day flag rush made its way into the afternoon. The day then concluded with a musical service on the beach and a Friday night discussion.

4th of JULY

As Camp Avoda awoke to the sound of patriotic music, everyone knew they where in for a great day of festivities and fun. After finally waking up, the majority of camp was headed for services while bunk 11 and 12 set up for the morning’s activities. Traditionally, bunk 11 and 12 set up mud wrestling, but this year, there was something new in store for all of camp… Avoda Tough Mudder. Each age group took their turns going through a course which started at the field and ended on the beach. The course went through the hockey courts, ropes course and many other places throughout camp along the way. After everyone showered up and ate a good meal, the afternoon carnival began. This year’s carnival included a dunk tank, bouncy house, concessions, and much

more. As the carnival winded down, the camp was called to the flagpole. Once everybody was in attendance, it was announced that Avoda’s first ever egg toss would be starting in 5 minutes. All the campers quickly found partners and split up by division. The Freshman were first, then sophomores and so on. By the end of the staff toss, everyone had a smile on their face and an egg on their shirt. As the sun began to set, the camp was called to the flagpole once again. This time, it was for the traditional 4th of July bonfire. This year’s bonfire was extra special because bunk 14 decided to build two additional smaller fires. One was dedicated to Paul G. Davis, who has spent 50 summers at Avoda, and the other was in remembrance of Adam “Bubba”

Miller, a true Avoda protagonist who spent 21 great summers at Avoda. As 14 lit the main fire they titled “echad” (meaning one or unified in Hebrew) the speeches started. To begin, one representative spoke from each younger bunk, responding to the question of what Avoda means to them. Finally, as the bonfire began to burn out, bunk 14 came up to talk, arm and arm, 31 strong. There was a plethora of great speeches made by the 14ers wih varying topics, but the message was clear; cherish your time at Avoda. After the last speeches were made, the camps attention shifted to the sky as the annual Avoda firework show began. While fireworks shot into the sky, and kids ate their firepops, it was clear that it had been another very, very successful 4th of July at Camp Avoda.

77

FLAGRUSH

Despite the late start this summer, the inaugural Flagrush brought things back to normal. After the campers settled into their new bunks, ate grilled cheese, and signed up for electives, Flagrush was finally announced over the loud anticipation of the Mess Hall. As the White and Blue teams were read off, the opening day tradition was ready to commence. Blue captains Ty Goldstein and Max Waltzman were to face Eli Sabin and Jake Romanow of White. During the first quarter, the freshman sophomores took the field. This quarter was a defensive battle with some great tackles made by Owen Sherman

78

for Blue and Sebastian Vidal for White. Once the whole camp took the field, the offensive presence of Max Waltzman and Jake Romanow was certainly felt by both defenses. Other standouts included Spencer Kligman and David Bacdayan for Blue, and Brett Litner and Zac Roth for White. In the end, White prevailed, winning the first flagrush of the 2015 season.

ZOOBALL

As the second day of the camp season was near its end and the Havdalah prayers were said, campers eagerly pounded the tables of the Mess Hall awaiting the announcement of the evening activity. A select group of campers were called up to the podium, finally announcing that the camp would be playing Zooball! Campers erupted in joy and rushed back to the bunks to put on their white and blue shirts. The captains of White were Artie Vidal and David Patkin; Ben Stigberg and Jake Noddell were the captains of Blue. In the first half, White goalies Jake Romanow and Danny Blumenstein

impeded shot after shot with very few faults, allowing only a few shots in from Jake Noddell and Eli Sabin. Meanwhile, Blue goalies Brett Litner and Ty Goldstein completely shutdown the White offense. Halftime penalty shots resulted in two points for White and zero for Blue. Going into the second half, the score was close, but Blue kept the shutout going, as the White offense could not score anything. The White defense kept things close thanks to great plays by Josh Kos, David Patkin and Ryan Simeone. Ultimately, the game came down to penalty shots, and after a score by White, a dropkick by Max

Waltzman would decide the winner. The powerful shot was just off, closing out another great game of the traditional Avoda sport as the victorious Blue team celebrated on second base. This year’s first Zooball set a standard of competitiveness, hustle, and fun for the rest of the year’s events.

79

SIX FLAGS

With Desert War on of everyone’s minds, campers took a break from the commotion to set out for Six Flags New England. After a two-hour ride in the coach buses, the trip started with a buffet in the River’s Edge picnic grove. Once campers ate as much of the delicious barbequed items as they could stomach, they entered the park for rides. A few daring individuals went on rides including Bizzaro, Goliath, and Scream, while others enjoyed the waterpark, drove bumper cars, or played games at one of the many stands. Overall, the trip proved to be a fun precursor to the event that would follow the next day.

Mount Monadnock has always been a fan favorite when it comes to the choice trips at Avoda. On the day of the trip, campers woke up early and headed to the buses with a confliction of tired, yet excited looks on their face. After the long drive was over, campers piled off the buses and started their journey. To no one’s surprise, Max Wright, Zane Reservitz, and Ross Halpern used all their stamina to win the annual race to the top. After everyone had reached the summit and enjoyed the view, they reluctantly began the climb back down. Dinner afterwards was enjoyed at Samba West, a gourmet Chinese restaurant in Framingham. This concluded another great Monadnock trip.

After a Thursday filled with baseball related events including softball games against Bauercrest and a wiffleball tournament, campers were ecstatic to here that the field trip they would be going on that night was a Red Sox game. Despite a rain delay, the duel between the four time all star Chris Sale of the White Sox and the up and comer Steven Wright of the Red Sox began. The first inning started with a two-run blast by White Sox slugger Jose Abreu. As the rain kept pouring, and the Sox remained down, fans started to lose hope. Regardless, Avoda kept cheering, starting a let’s go Red Sox chant, a Free Tom Brady chant, and even the wave. With the Avodians behind them, the Sox scored eight unanswered runs, mainly coming off the bats of David Ortiz and Xander Bogaerts. After filling their faces with all the delightful food Fenway has to offer, the drenched campers then got on the buses and celebrated another great Red Sox victory as they headed back to camp.

RED SOX

80

Summer after summer, the first field trip of the Avoda season is to Water Wizz. This summer, however, there was speculation that the annual trip would be to the dreaded Water Country, a very long, hot bus ride from camp. When the first Thursday finally arrived, it became clear that Trip Coordinator Leon Dyer had simply been pulling the campers’ legs, as he often does. Avoda would be going to Water Wizz after all. Following a short bus ride, the majority of bunks immediately went straight for lunch. D’angelo’s, KFC, and Wendy’s were popular options, but of course the always classy Jared “Judd” Fixler took his campers to the fabulous Ninety-Nine in the area. After lunch, it was time to go to the park. Campers enjoyed going in the Lazy River and wave pool, as well as plummeting down Pirates Plunge and Devil’s Peak. After a long day of having fun in the water and a few stops at the infamous Bananas army store, the campers returned to dear old A-V-O-D-A.

Freshman/Sophomore league has seen some great competition this year. The campers constantly play their hearts out for their team and the games are close and intense.Throughout the summer, teams such as Cat in the Hat, the Lorax, and the Sneeches, among others, battled through wins and losses, all trying to get the top seed when the playoffs began. Everyone involved in freshman/sophomore league played and worked very hard, whether they were a referee, a coach, or a player. The fierce competition brought out heart and emotion from the players and coaches. Although not everyone was on the team with the most wins, everyone ended up a winner.

This summer’s Junior/Senior League was extremely competitive. Players, coaches, and refs put their best effort into each and every game, contributing to a tight race. Every 6th period, teams, which were named based on a WWE theme, went to battle. Commissioners George Russo and Ben Simmons did a fantastic job of keeping league fair and competitive whenever they could. Additionally, each and every coach had had some sort of experience coaching at Avoda, keeping this summer’s teams engaged and motivated. All in all, Junior/Senior League was a huge success, and the highlight of many campers’ summer.

The morning of th Friday, July 17 2015 started the same as any other day at Camp Avoda. Revile blew, followed by waiters call, line-up, and a 20 minute period of reluctantly dragging ourselves to the flagpole. At the end of breakfast, Paul Samberg went up to the podium to make a birthday speech. After the traditional “and everyone else is number one,” one of the masked birthday crewmembers revealed his identity yelling, “It’s Desert War!” To everyone’s surprise, it was none other than the Avoda great, AJ Felberbaum, returning from a monthlong hiatus. One of the greatest days of the year had begun: Desert War, 2015. Once the teams were read off, the Legion of Blue and the White Cowboys split up on the path. Captains Jake Romanow and Eli Sabin of White, and Max Waltzman

94

and Ty Goldstein of Blue walked down the path first. Generals Jared Fixler and Sam Watman took the final walk, leading their teams to their headquarters as the strategizing began. Directly following the start of the first quarter, both teams sent offensive rushes. Just a few minutes in, Isaac Frumkin scored the field flag, opening up the scoring for the day. Near the end of the first, White was still holding on to a lead when Blue captain Max Waltzman scored the Dezzi, a nearly impossible flag to score. Following his captain’s lead, Ben Stigberg then proceeded to score the PGD flag, putting the Legion on top. The second quarter was highlighted by defensive plays on both sides of the field. A combined effort of Zac Roth, Artie Vidal, Sam Scribner, David Patkin, and captain Ty Goldstein shut down the White offense,

while Zach Goldstein and Eli Sabin hushed Blue attacks. At the beginning of the third quarter, Blue’s offense started to take over, as Ben Robinson, Spencer Kligman, and Ben Stigberg lead an offensive punch that gave Blue a nearly insurmountable lead. In the rec hall, after the third quarter, General Jared Fixler and the White 14ers rallied the Cowboys. In the fourth, their message got across. The quarter was hectic with back-to-back scoring as White had their highest scoring quarter of the day. Leading their rushes included White MVPs Drew Breton, Isaac Frumkin, and Max Wright. In the end, The Legion of Blue got the best of the Cowboys as they victoriously made their way to the lake to celebrate. Overall, it was a successful and competitive day for all of camp.

COLOR WAR A Brief History of the Shirts Awarding

a camper with a Color War shirt is a tradition Avodians truly cherish and embrace. On any given day, you are guaranteed to see a camper or two proudly wearing and representing their memories and history of past Color Wars here at Avoda. Whether they are old or recent, every team and every pink staff has a chance to live vicariously through the shirts they pass on to Avoda’s future.

100 6

The History of

COLOR WAR Color war is a competition played in summer camps, schools and some social organizations (such as sororities, fraternities, or small businesses). Participants are divided into teams, each of which is assigned a color. The teams compete against each other in challenges and events to earn points. Typical color war challenges include tug-of-war, dodgeball, archery, as well as more contemporary sports such as soccer and basketball. These challenges and events vary based upon the venue for the game. The games’ durations can range from a day to several months. The winning team is the one with the most points at the end of the game. Typically, color wars consist of several events that are worth insignificant amounts of points, and then one large final event that is worth enough points to

win or lose the entire color war. It is usually at the end of the summer. Color wars can also be useful in the school setting for pep rallies or to get students excited about learning. Points can be allotted for completion of academic activities or events. Points can be tallied and scored. Color wars usually begin with a surprise ‘color war breakout’ to begin, at which point generals and captains are announced. Booklets or flyers are given out dictating teams. Students/campers have meetings and team time periods throughout color war. Cheers are made up by members of the teams and teams come up with songs to sing and flyers to put up around the location of color war. Multiple events occur, each worth a certain number

Color War at Camp Avoda is a time where everything is on the line. Each summer, staffs prepare for weeks, if not more, putting together the best teams they possibly can in preparation for this weeklong war. Aside from the event itself being one of Avoda’s most cherished traditions, Color War manifests the brotherhood, tradition, and spirit Avoda fosters.

Seeing as this summer revolved around PGD and his 50 years of commitment, it was only fitting that Mr. Davis himself announced this year’s break. After riding in on a horse and carriage, PGD surprised the whole camp by announcing, “This is Color War!!!!” Led by Generals Sam Watman and Louis Douglas, the Blue Apes and the White Olympians battled back and forth all week long.

of points. Events include sports competitions, cheeroffs, as well as knowledge competitions. Sometimes silent lunch is an activity, where every team has to be silent. In some cases, each team gets a day where they have to decorate a lunch room and they do their best to encompass their team’s theme throughout the location. At the end of color war, there are presentations such as the teams’ banners, songs, skits, multi-media presentations, and team movies. These presentations are worth the most points, and can tip color war in favor of any team. The last day of color war also usually includes some sort of relay races or another large event which the whole team must participate in, also worth a very high number of points. -Online Resoruce

As the summer’s conclusion approached, with it came the annual anticipation of the war. Color War has been an Avoda tradition for as long as anyone can remember, and is the type of competition us Avodians thrive on. By Sam Entner

It’s hard to put into words what a last summer at Avoda feels like. I never expected to be writing my last profile but the time has come. After spending 11 summers at such a special place, I can’t imagine a summer away from here. I’ll always look back and remember all the relationships, the good times and the bad and all the great memories I’ve made. The best thing in life would to be able to spend every summer at Avoda but unfortunately that can’t happen. This place has made me into the person I am today, has given me friendships and memories that I will have for the rest of my life, and has taught me so many life lessons that I can take with me. I’m not sure where or what I’ll be doing next summer, but I’ll always have Avoda in my heart and will forever bleed blue and white. Time for some shout outs: Abe-The Watman legacy at camp is now in your hands and I know you’ll keep it going strong. It’s crazy that we’ve both been able to grow up here together and it’s going to be weird leaving you next year on your own. You know you can always come to me with anything and it’s awesome how much our relationship grows each year. The past couple summers you’ve showed everyone who you are and how you can impact this place in the future. Keep doing what you’re doing and I can’t wait to spend a week with you. Let’s go win another war. Adam and Bryce-I’m so glad I made the decision to join you two in Bunk 1 this summer and I’m really glad I got to get so much closer with both of you. Thanks for getting me into reading this summer and

110 6

being so great with the leetle wans. 2010 Bunk 14-From Israel, this summer wouldn’t have been the same without you guys and I loved us all being together so much. I wish you all the best of luck at school this year and I’m still waiting for our boycott to start… Fix and Ogley-I don’t really know what to say… I think it was pretty obvious it was going to be tough to beat our summer last year, and even though we were in different bunks I couldn’t have imagined this summer without you two. We’ve had so many great times together at this place, and even though I’m really sad to see it end I know there will be so much more in the future. Senior Hoops-You guys really came together during the Avoda tournament and it’s just unfortunate the way things ended up. I’m really proud of the way you guys competed all day and I think you should all be proud of how far the team came. No Way Out Of Texas/Texas/Longhorn Steakhouse/Longhorns-After my CIT year I knew the next time I got a league team I would just take advantage of the opportunity. Not only were we good, but it was just such a fun team to be on. Texas Forever Legion of Blue-What a team! Everytime I think back to that day it will always put a smile on my face. Everyone knew their roles and it was everything I could’ve imagined and more. White Olympians-We’re hard working, dedicated and most of all smart and I know everything will end up the way it should-win or lose. I’m so excited to spend this week with this staff and a team that I will remember for the rest of my life. Ayyy white! 2008 Bunk 14- I want to wish you all the best in your first year out of school this year working full time. I’m sure we’ll be seeing each other at Bin’s or at the Zoo and I can’t wait for more good times. Joey- I missed you :( Deuce-Thanks for looking out for me this

whole summer and in the past. It’s been weird thinking about going up against you the past couple day and just wanted to let you know we’ve still never been to mighty’s together... 2011 Bunk 14-It’s your show to run next year. Enjoy it and lead this camp the way you all know it should be done. I’m glad over the years we’ve gotten so close and the Israel trip wouldn’t have been the same without you guys. H-Still can’t really wrap my mind around not being with you for a week, but it’s pretty obvious nothing will change between us. I’m pretty pissed at you right now, but I’ve been loving the trash talk so keep it coming. Mikooo-Since the prophets we hit it off and have kept it going this whole summer. I’m pumped we’re dancing together again and I know we’ll put ourselves in a great position to win. 2015 14: Great job all summer, I can’t wait to see what you guys can do this summer. Dot Dots-Angry Men… 13 Hayarkon… Zikpah… Hook em Horns… Jamie… The second thrower… 360… Bill Holtz… The Orchid… Hey BUDDDDY… Phonegate… 10 Schekel… Summer of BARZ...Dine & Dash… Israel To everyone that comes here camp is more than just a place, it’s a second home that will be with all of us for the rest of our lives. I can’t say anything but thank you to everyone who made my years so great and I will always stay involved in this community. I never knew how much this place would mean to be when I first start but I couldn’t imagine my life without Middleboro, Village, Gibbs Rd, Tispaquin and most importantly A-V-O-D-A.

SC Bunk 1 • 2011 Bunk 14 Equipment Manager • Go Green Avoda

10th year at Camp Avoda, 2nd year senior counselor, and owner of a senior staff jacket – it has been a wild ride. I cannot put my emotions and gratitude for this place into words. Here is an attempt to sum it up: Highlights of my Avoda Career: The boys in the 2011 bunk 14: What you’ve all done for me and what you each mean to me is unrivaled. You’re all like brothers and know I’ll always be there for each of you. My year in bunk 14: What an experience. Unlike anything I’ve ever done. Color War: From winning my first year on the animals, to losing my last on the Legends; they all were amazing and each experience gave me so much. I put my heart into each of those wars and had a great time with every member of each team. The summer of 2014: The best period of time in my life. For the whole summer I counted the number of days that I considered “bad”. I have never had so many amazing days and such few “bad” days in any other span of time. Thank you to everyone who has ever put anything into making that summer what it was. Mr. Davis: What you have done for Avoda cannot be summarized. You truly dedicated yourself to this place.Your heart, spirit, dedication, and every other indescribable character trait of yours is imprinted throughout Avoda. I want to thank you for everything you have done,

and furthermore bless that you receive your rewarded for the incredible impact you permitted for so many people over all your 50 years here. The Staff of bunk 1 and 2 this summer: What a stacked crew! From the first day I got to camp I was pumped to be a part of this. We gave these kids an incredible experience and I want to thank each of you for doing what you’ve done. You each made this summer easier and better for me. Bunk 1 – Couldn’t have asked for a better group to receive bunk 1 alumni with; Extremely happy I received all three alumni’s. Each member of the bunk positively added to the summer in one way or another. I hope I get to see the amazing Avodians and individuals you become. Will Holtz: Will, the person you’re becoming is unbelievable. You’re such an independent, capable, wise, and creative person that I know with all my heart that you can be successful in whatever you do. I am incredibly happy we ran a cabin together and can’t wait reminisce these days when we’re older. I love you so much. Know that no matter what comes your way in life and whatever you do, I will always be at your side. I hope our friendship grows every year of our lives. Michael Shale: What a great kid with an amazing heart. You are just a good person destined to do good things. I hope we stay friends for life and everything past that. I bless that you are able to reach your potential in life.

Leon Dyer: I just attached this document to an email addressed to you when I realized one thing, along with most other things you do, it went unrecognized. What you do for this place is unbelievable. Thank you so much for all of the hard work and the countless hours you’ve put into this place. I hope we keep in touch. The brotherhood of Avoda: I’d say this is the thing that separates Avoda and makes it a bubble from the rest of the world. The brotherhood of Avoda is astounding. The credit for much of the person I am today comes from Avoda and the people here. Desert war/flagrush: From day one at Avoda until today, I can guarantee that if you gave me the opportunity to participate in any event – I’d pick flagrush. I love every part of that game. Then once a year you get to desert war - all day flagrush, all the hype! All the enjoyment, but nayt. It is so strategized that it is just a completely different game. Even so, I’ve loved it since my first year participating. These two activities are part of the greatness of Avoda; I hope they stay part of Avoda forever. 4th period hoops in 2015: My favorite part of every day. I loved playing real intense basketball with everyone just about every day of the summer.

SC Bunk 2 • 2011 Bunk 14 1St Lt Legion of Blue • 2nd Lt White Team

Hey, remember me? I was that cool counselor sleeping in Bunk 2 and driving the boat all summer. When I wasn’t hanging out with my campers, I frequented the basketball courts, shooting threes like Steph Curry. I’m proud to say that my three point shot really improved this summer. Can you believe Jake Tischler bet me $5 at the beginning of the summer that I wouldn’t beat him once in the threepoint game. What was he thinking? He shoots the ball with two hands with no spin. Anyways, this was another great summer, but boy did it fly by. It seems like just yesterday that I was setting up the docks during precamp and now there’s two weeks left in camp, the food is at its worst, and Color War is right around the corner. All in all, this summer has surpassed my highest expectations. Looking back on this summer and my career at camp, nothing describes Avoda more than the conversation I had with visiting alum, Mark “Gooba” Goldberg. Even though almost three decades separates our times in Bunk 14, his stories of camp, Color War in particular, reflect exactly what still occurs today. Gooba retold stories about the drama behind picking staffs, taking teams, and passing down shirts to the next generation of Avodians. So much outside of camp has changed in the past 30 years, but its incredible that life at camp remains the same. Shout Outs Tish You were possibly the worst league commissioner of all time (useless),

however, you were good at reading the schedule. We were the dynamic duo for some great athletics periods and late night activities. Best of 7, best of 7, chandler for the win. Can’t wait to line it up with you in the city. Adam You are sahhhh cute. Thank you for our late night intellectual conversations about philosophy, religion, and life. You were also a great workout partner for abs. Please take my advice: Go to a normal school and find weird people. Don’t go to a weird school and try to find normal people. Day Off Crew My favorite part of the summer is going home with you guys. Adam, AJ, Jake, and Zach you guys are all always welcome at the Shale residence. I hope to see you guys in Ann Arbor at some point this year. Keep in touch and stay pointy.

Bunk 2 You guys were an awesome group of kids. I loved hanging with you guys in the bunk, at meals, and at field trips. I definitely do not regret taking a younger bunk. Will and Benji, you guys were great cos. Awesome summer. Bubba I miss you buddy. You were a great mentor, role model, softball coach, basketball coach, babysitter, counselor and more. You always knew how to pick someone up when they were down and could sing karaoke like no other.

Legion of Blue Our team chemistry was as good as it gets. Watman thank you for giving me the opportunity to be your wachad. As always, it was great working with you. Waltzman and Ty, you guys were not only amazing on the field, but also incredible leaders. I never doubted our team or strategy for a second. White Team Lets get it boys!!!! 4th Period Hoops This was by far the best period of the year and the highlight of my day. We had a lot of great games and high level of play.

Titles: Head Rabbi, Face of Rabbinics, Social Media Chair, Junior hoops coach, 4lt on White Cowboys, 4lt on the White Americans As I said during my bonfire speech, leaving camp when you aren’t ready is like being roughly woken up from a deep sleep. You’re first surprised that you are awake, then shift to anger that you aren’t asleep anymore. In a delirious haze, you begrudgingly begin the day, always thinking the bed back at home that you were so blissfully sleeping in. All day, you are functioning but not fully awake and grumpy as a result, dreaming of the time when you get home and are able just to jump back in bed. Being away from camp last summer was an experience that I wasn’t ready for nor had any idea how to handle. All summer, I would be texting friends at camp asking about the league standings, Avoda tournament, Desert War and Color War stuff, and just asking about day to day life at camp. Being back this summer, being able to experience it all again, has been such a blessing

JC Bunk 3 • 2013 Bunk 14

The Summer of 2015 is my tenth summer, and attached to it were very lofty hopes. I can honestly say that 2k15 lived up to the hype. My camp experience is a unique one. I wasn’t necessarily the best behaved, most athletic, or smartest camper, and my camper years were filled with ups and downs. After my 14 summer I wasn’t entirely sure if I wanted to come back, but then I thought of the friends I had made and decided to give it another go. CIT year completely crushed any of my camper years, and I fell in love with Avoda all over again. That summer I became closer with the 2013 bunk 14, and can honestly say they became my best friends on this earth. It was a no brainer to come back for JC year. Summer 2015 has truly flown by. All I can say is that Avoda is the best thing to ever happen to me. I intend on coming back as long as I can, and hope that a few more members of the 2013, who were not present this year, will join us next year. Bunk 3- I really had a blast with ya’ll this year. As I write this profile I think to myself how surreal this moment really is. I always read the profiles in my free time, looking back to the old Avodians, now that it is my turn, I really feel a lot older at this place. It’s been a long ride and it was a blast. This summer was awesome and I can’t wait to continue my career here. Now for some Shout outs: Bunk 3: You guys were a blast. You never ceased to surprise me and always kept me on my feet. I urge you all to come back and try to come full summer. Have a great offseason! Swartz: I didn’t know what to expect this summer, as we weren’t so close, but you’re the man and I think that we ran a great bunk this summer. Have fun at Lynn this year. Ryan: What can I say, when I found out we were going to be co’s I was pumped. We’ve been bunking together for nine years so it wasn’t so bad that we did it yet again. We’ve been buddies since that first day we came across each other in bunk 2. We had a blast this

summer as co’s. See ya in school. Gino: You’re the best. We’ve been killing it since 5B, whether it’s jamming out to some Jim Croce or chillin in the LeSabre. It was awesome for you to be across the hall this summer and we had a blast as J.Cs together. Good luck in your senior year! 2k1314: You guys are my boys, Bryce, Bill, Booñe, Eagle, Ryan, and Gino. We absolutely killed it this summer and I feel that we have gotten closer than ever. We went from 21, to 11, to 7, and couldn’t ask for a better group of guys than all of you. I hope we can continue this trend of closeness exponentially and be brothers for the rest of our lives. Good luck in senior year to all of you. 2k1414: I might give you guys are hard time, but you guys are my boys too. Scubs, Bailet, Shay, Velt and the rest of you. I’m sure you guys will be great staff members next year. Jared: It was awesome being on staff with you this year. You were a great leader his year and a great General. Good luck in the upcoming dance. Deuce: Deuce, I can’t thank you enough for everything you’ve done for me. You’ve been my counselor

twice, my general, my friend, and most importantly a mentor. You’ve shown me the ropes of not just being a counselor, but a mature adult. I can’t thank you enough for that. Good luck this year! Adam: Coming into the summer I had no idea what to expect from you. You coming here and fitting right in just shows the true uniqueness of this place and how special Avoda really is. I hope we may cross paths again after this summer. Benji: We ran great services this year and I hope to continue it in years to come. You also are a great person to talk to. I will never turn down a chance to have a banter here or there with you. Have a great time at Duke this year. With just two weeks left in the summer I can say that this summer at camp has gone by faster than any other year. This summer has been amazing just like the last 10 summers I’ve spent at camp. From big events like Desert War and the Avoda tournament, to the normal days, and especially color war, camp is always the best place to be every summer. When my friends from home ask why I keep coming back to camp they wonder how I can spend 2 months away, but the decision is easy. I know that at camp I have made friends and memories that will be with me forever. Avoda has given me countless stories and good times to look back on. Being on staff as an SC has been a great experience, and I know I’ve learned many things at camp that will help me outside of camp and have made me who I am. Although it feels weird that campers don’t know the counselors that I had, I know that that means camp is still going strong. Coming back this summer has been great time and being on staff just keeps getting better.

good time. It’s been fun being your co this year and I hope to see you back on staff next year. 2k12: Another summer in the books, and this one was definitely one of the best. Hope to see you all in the offseason and I hope we can all come back and do it again.

Bunk 4: You guys were a great bunk and we had a lot of good times. I’m glad I was able to be your counselor this summer, and I look forward to seeing you all as you make your way to 14. Gino: We had an awesome bunk all summer and we always had a

For 10 months of every year I look forward to coming to Avoda and as the summer comes to an end I’m always distraught to have to say goodbye to all of my best friends in the world. This summer in particular has been one of the best yet and I’m excited to see what the future of Avoda has in store for me. This was my first year on staff as a J.C. in bunk 4 and I could not have asked for a better group of kids to accompany me. My first year being on staff was a great experience and although it’s much different than being a camper, it is still great in many of its own ways. Bunk 4: You guys were awesome this entire summer. There is no bunk I would rather be with because you guys are easily the best group of kids in camp and I’m excited to see all of you return next summer Dan: You were a pretty decent co and it was a blast running the bunk with you

120 6

The fellow J.C’s: You guys are my homies and I can’t wait to spend more summers with all of you on staff. I’m really glad you guys are my friends because most of you are really cool. Ryan: you’re one of the reasons I started camp and if it wasn’t for you I probably never would have came. you’re a cool guy and I love being across the hall from you Wes: You do terrible unforgivable things to me that have scarred me probably for life. But you’re funny so it’s cool :) Eagle: My friend Jarod hates you and I’m really sorry you had to find out like this Willy: you’re a very fun and smart person and I would trust you with my life but not to drive my car. sorry ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Ben: You have good taste in music and good taste in life. To All: Although at this point in time there are still 3 weeks left in camp, I can proudly say that Summer of 2015 has been the best yet. Not only were the campers and activities at their best, but staff absolutely killed it! Eventually the time comes where we all have to say goodbye to Avoda for a final time as a camper/staff member, and although I will soon have to face the reality of it I can’t imagine saying goodbye for a final time come the Summer’s end. One message I want to convey to all reading this is really cherish your time here at Camp Avoda. This cliche topic is brought up every 4th of July Bonfire for a reason. Soon all you younger campers will be in 14 and facing your last moments as campers here at Camp Avoda. And the older campers will be facing the toughest decisions of whether to come back on staff for their last year, or not. Please stay as long as you can, because the more you mature here at Camp Avoda, the better person you will become. Throughout my 11 years here at Avoda I’ve obviously made some regrets and have experienced bad times, but the good times with staff and my brothers COMPLETLEY outweigh all the negatives. Thank you all for such an amazing summer, and for helping me progress to who I am today.

2k12 14: I can’t believe all the memories we have made this year. Although were all going to be in different parts of the country next year, we are going to have an insane time when we cross paths. I regret to say I can’t imagine we will ever have such a strong 2k12 14 group here at Avoda again, but at least we made the absolute best of it. . Drew thanks for hookin up the jerseys brothah. Dan, Swartz, and Benji we dominated our side the field. And Entner I loved your presence during 7th period Fishing, that is until you lost your driving privileges. You are all my brothers and I will never forget the amazing memories. Whatever happens next summer, we always stay in touch

Boone: I couldn’t have had a better co this summer. We were able to make light of every situation we encountered together, and we always had a good time in the bunk. I hope you come back next summer, it only gets better. n we encountered together, and we always had a good time in the bunk. I hope you come back next summer, it only gets better.

Shaggy: Yooooooooooooooooooooo. Another amazing summer man, we chilled hard and even won a lottery. I know that if one of us is unable to come back, we will still be in touch. I can’t wait to visit the 02806, 2 Heritage Road to be exact, you’ll understand why I remembered your address soon enough. I am going to miss the green monstahs, 7th period fishing, and all the other things we’ve done together this summer. I love you man. P.S I’ll never forget you throwing up on me.

Leading up to writing this, my plan was to go into old Avodians and take quotes from Bubba’s profiles over the years because I knew he always had something good to say. So as I began reading through some of the Avodians from the past 5-10 years, each year Bubba always wrote something very positive and meaningful. One thing he always did was thank all the campers, counselors, and admin who made this place as amazing as it is. At first, I wanted to just quote him on what camp meant to him and the uniqueness of Avoda. However, as I read on it just made me realize on my own how special this oasis is and how much this place meant to him, myself and everyone else who has had the privilege to find out about this place. If you are reading this, you are one of the lucky ones who happened to hear about Avoda, because I know without this place I’d be a much different person. Don’t take this place for granted, enjoy every day, every minute you spend here.

Jc’s: Boys, we’ve had a great summer so far and I look forward to everyday in our next two weeks. Geno/reno, there’s little out there that makes me happier than to chill in the bunk with the yuk and guitar, listening to music and look up to see a grinning Geno with the best chops in the game (and in amazement, my look of awe back at his chops). Pyun, you always make me laugh and constantly surprise me with a more ridiculous joke than the last. I know you’ll do great this year in soccer with all the practice you do here, Good luck. Bebe Pesley, you give the best hugs ever. No questions asked. Eagle, EEAAGGUUULLLLLEE!!! Your a great guy and a true hard worker. Keep coming back my friend. Brrruce, after this summer it made me realize there’s a pretty good chance we’ll become family... however, it may or may not be suz’s first choice. You also better visit Newton or else you owe me a punch. Bill Chaney, your my good friend, if not a great friend. I’ve enjoyed each and every day with you this summer and know we’ll be seeing each other plenty this year. Boys, great times were had and I got a good feeling we’re gonna grow next summer.

Bunk 6/ 8 united: It was a hectic summer boys, but it was one I’ll never forget. I hope to see you all soon! Senior Soccer: This summer was tough. Practice times were scarce, numbers were high, and the competition was real, but we made the most of it. I can’t tell you guys enough how proud I was to be a part of Team Avoda, especially with a group like yourselves. Keep your heads up, learn from the mistakes, and keep moving forward. This is my 7th year at Avoda… I love it very much… Bunk 14… 2k13 14… Waterfront staff… Ropes staff… The White Prophets… The Office… 50 years of PGD… And everyone else is number one It’s weird to think how fast times gone by since 2008, somehow getting from that quiet confused kid I was in bunk 3 to being on staff. I started the summer in bunk 6 with Sam Entner and then we moved to the other side of the field to be in bunk 8 left. I’ve had the time of my life being on staff and this summer has been filled with so many different moments. From great nights with campers and funny stories, to needing 3 stitches from hitting my eye on the bed frame. There have been so many great memories that made my JC summer easily the most enjoyable one yet. After being here since 2008, it’s still hard to try to explain to my friends why I spend almost all my summer at camp. This place became such an important part of my life and all of my best memories are from Avoda.

2k13 14 Can’t believe we are down to 7 members already as JCs. Time has gone so fast and you are all some of the funniest people I know. We’ve gotten this far and I hope we can get even further as a group. I hope to see you all on the off season as much as possible! Bunk 6 I am so happy I got to be your counselor. Max, what would we do without you man, thank you for staying sane and always laughing and making everything fun, I hope to see you back next year! Adin, thank you for all the laughs this summer. Zach, Cheese, you were hands down the easiest camper to talk to and have around, and always set a good example. You need to slow down the reading though, you finished 6 huge books in 2 weeks! Ben and David, I completely regret making you 2 bunkmates, you were opposites. And of course Jake… Have fun in Paris and try not to be too crazy!! Thank you for a great summer. Bunk 8 I had such a great time in this bunk. I loved being all your counselors and I hope you all had fun. Alex, I think I’m a diabetes expert now and thank you for always being so fun in the bunk. Eli, you were great and stop sleepwalking. Sawyer, you’re crazy but were always able to make me laugh and annoy the crap out of everyone. Jonah, you were good… sometimes. Caleb you were crazy, loud, and exciting and I was so glad to be your first counselor. Can’t wait to see ALL of you back next year!

Yikes. That was fast. I can still remember sitting down last year writing my profile describing my love for camp, my love for my bunk, and my respect for everything Avoda stands for. None of that has changed. I loved this summer. I had great kids, I was rewarded with great opportunities, and I got to embrace everything that Avoda has to offer. It was a summer to remember. Now before I get to shout outs, I want to say this: There is only so much that I know in life, but I am certain of this, I am in love with this camp. I love everything about this place. It is my escape, my safe haven, and my oasis, and I wouldn’t have traded the experience I had these past 11 summers for anything in the world. I can’t say for certain whether or not I will be back next year, but if I am not, I know for that camp will thrive, and I am comfortable hanging up the cleats. I’ve done a lot at this place, and even though letting it go will be a difficult task, it is not depressing. It is rewarding in the sense that I get to pass off the ropes to the next generation and instill the trust in my fellow counselors that they will continue the greatness that is demanded of this place. I know this introduction is short, but there is really not much to say. I love Camp Avoda, and I know that it will always hold a special place in my heart. Now it’s time for some important shout outs. Bunk 7: You guys were amazing. Hands down the best bunk in camp. I loved getting to know you guys this summer and I wouldn’t have traded it for anything. You have a strong

core and I hope you fellas continue to come back for many summers to come. This camp needs you guys. Much love, and I hope you all have a great school year. 2k11: I’m getting chills writing this, because I know many of us won’t be back next year and that frightens me because it means we’re losing out on a lot of laughs, and a lot of good times. But it’s all good because I know that we will continue to stay in touch in the off season. I love you guys. You are all the most real friends I have ever had, and most likely will ever have. I will definitely be making it up to visit you boys in school, and you know you are always welcome. It is crazy to believe that we have made it this far, and maybe there’s a chance we can get a core group back next year…only time will tell. Tish: You are neurotic, anxious, stressed out, and nervous, but I love you brotha. You are the man, and I wouldn’t have done this summer without you. Our kids loved us, and the majority of that has to do with you. I know we will stay in touch, but you deserve a shout out. You made this summer as good as it could be. I love you homie, lets get it this week! Mike Shale: There is a high chance you will absolutely not be expecting this shout out but it’s nescesarry considering I have yet to give you one in past years. You were the reason I came to camp, and for that I am forever grateful. You absolutely killed it this summer winning DW, and it’s unfortunate we aren’t together in the dance, but I’m sure you are going to do great. I

hope that we can stay in touch and I will be making it up to Michigan this year for certain. Much love guy. Leon: I love you. You get a lot of shit, but you are the reason Camp runs the way it does. I hope that we didn’t make your life to hard, and I am expecting a brunch this off season. Don’t be a stranger. Blue Apes: I love this team. Working with 4 of my best friends at this place is going to be an experience I will never forget. Deuce, I am grateful for your trust in me, I will not let you down. Harrison, Judd, Tish you are the best of the best this camp has to offer as far as lieutenants come, and I know that our knowledge will pay dividends by the end of the week. Let’s get it done boys, I can’t wait for the week to start. Adam Miller: I don’t know if you realize the impact that you had on countless individuals in both Newton, and the Avoda community. I will never forget you, and not a day goes by where I don’t miss you. I love you Bubbs, and I know you will always be protecting this place from above. Rest easy Jolly Green, we are all thinking about you. This could be it, and if it is, I just want to preach: I love you Avoda, stay Golden forever.

Jake Tischler here to tell you about another great summer at Camp Avoda. From a great second period athletics ran by myself with some assistance from Michael Shale to the power 4,5 of hoops and hockey, everyday at camp was filled with enjoyment for me. As a counselor, I was able to get to know a group of kids that I had not been a counselor of in the past. Bunk 7 was a great, funny, and energetic group of kids. On top of having a great bunk, I really enjoyed having my fellow 14er Jake Alexander as my co. Additionally, I really enjoyed being a freshman sophomore league commissioner alongside my colleague Michael Shale. We worked evenly and well together in order to ensure that league ran smoothly and that everyone involved enjoyed it. The league this year was very intense, as the decision for who made the playoffs came down to the wire. Beyond that, I would just like to say that I had an amazing summer and couldn’t imagine spending it anywhere else. Regardless of where I am in the offseason,

This summer, being cos with someone in my 14 was very special. It was fun to be back in the bunk with one of my brothers and to give our campers the same experiences that we had when we were campers together in the same bunk. 2k11:Boys, we killed it. Down a few numbers this summer, but that didn’t stop us at all. It was amazing spending my summer with my best friends in the world. Great times were had and great jokes were made. From Israel to Middleboro Massachusetts, I wouldn’t ever choose a different group of guys to spend my time with. Hey Mikko: Thank you for letting my continuously own you in basketball. It really gave me the confidence that I needed to thrive during 4th hoops. In addition, thank you and your family for always letting me stay at your house on day off, I really appreciate it. It certainly brought Zack and I a lot closer.

Kahan: What can I say here that won’t offend you. I had a great time becoming very close with you this summer. Despite our ups and downs, we always had a nice flailing hug at the end of the day. Aj: I couldn’t have asked for a better surprise than hearing that you were coming back to camp. I have truly enjoyed spending time with you and cant wait to hang with you this year when we visit each other. Summer wouldn’t have been the same without you. Back in 2012, towards the end of my CIT summer, I came to the conclusion that my time at Camp Avoda was coming to an end, and that I was prepared to move on. After loving every day of my summers as a camper, I was less enthusiastic about being a counselor-in-training, unable to participate in all the activities I loved and spend as much time with friends in my 14. To some extent, I lost my appreciation for camp. During the summer of 2013, I went on an incredible five-week language and cultural immersion trip to Spain, and last summer, without much thought of returning to Avoda, I worked as a tennis instructor at a country club. While I enjoyed my time on the tennis courts and on various vacations I had the time to take last summer, the highlight was when I visited camp for the first time since 2012. The combination of seeing old friends, walking around camp, and swimming in Lake Tispaquin made me realize how much I missed Avoda. As my freshman year of college began, this remained in the back of my head, and I grew to appreciate more the way Avoda helped shape me, ranging from teaching me how to live independently to how to work as part of a team.As the year went on, it became abundantly clear to me that I wanted to return to camp this summer both

to have a good time and, more importantly, to help teach current campers those same lessons. Now, three quarters of the way through the summer, I am very grateful that I have returned. This year has far exceeded my expectations in terms of both fulfillment and fun. I can write with complete sincerity that I have savored every single day. I feel that I have fully embraced my role at camp, and this summer will be one to remember for years to come. Bunk 8: You guys are a big part of what has made my summer so awesome! I hope that I was able to help you all have a top-notch summer as well. We had a lot of fun times together as a bunk. Stay great.

Mr. Davis: It is hard to imagine camp without you. Thank you for everything. Bubba: When I think of what I want to be for the campers, I think of you. Thank you for being a role model. Rest in peace

Shaggy: Thanks for being a great co-counselor. 2011 Bunk 14: I missed you guys a lot the past couple years. Thank you for welcoming me back to camp. It has been great being back together. I hope to keep in much better touch going forward than I have in the past. Leon:We have not spent as much time together this summer as I would have liked, but I still really enjoy hanging out. Thanks for helping me with a bunch of small things and making camp run.

Being on staff with you this year has been a pleasure and I know you are going to write a great play and kill freshman year at Duke. 2011- Great Israel trip, please come back as long as possible. Fogel- As my best friend at camp and a really good friend at home I couldn’t

have asked for a better 11 summers by my side. You have done a great job this year in 14 and it was great to see you in that leadership role. Thank you for everything in DW that was one hell of a ride first month. Although we didn’t win I will never forget that day, thanks for putting up with me. It was too bad that our second month team couldn’t be put together but I know you will kill it in CW, I wish you the best of luck and see you on the other side. Sitting next to you right now it’s very sad that our time together is over in less than 2 weeks. I will never forget the past 11 years we have been together. Watman- I was so happy that you were able to come back this summer. Although things didn’t work out the way they did at the start of the summer I was glad I had you by my side. You are a great competitor and a great person to have a conversation with. I wish you luck this week in CW. It’s been a great 11 years with you and it’s going to be sad when we depart. See you on the other side. Blue Apes-I cannot wait for this week; I have the full confidence in this staff that we will be in the lake. Deuce, Harrison, Tish, Jake, Shay, Frank, Max Lets go! Deuce- Other than my 14 you are and have been my best friend at camp through the years. Our friendship at camp will culminate this week in CW where together we will take this team to the lake. You have always guided me at this camp during the good and especially the bad times. The impact you have had on thv bis place is tremendous; I cannot wait to jump in the lake with you next Thursday.

During the school year I wasn’t sure if I would make it back to the shores of lake Tispaquin for another summer at camp. There were many other option I could’ve chosen but I figured I would apply and make a last minute decision. After speaking to some of the guys my mind was made up. How could I pass up the opportunity to come back for another summer. Although it flew by just as every other summer does, I can safely say that as the years go on camp gets better. Bunk 9: There was never a dull moment in the bunk this year. You guys were a bunch of characters, and although we had our ups and downs this summer, I enjoyed being your counselor. Hopefully you guys can mature and unify as an age group. The 2K12: Spending this summer with you guys has been a blast! Max and shagg you guys are insane I can’t believe you guys won the lottery, guess that’s what happens when you’re committed. Benji it

It’s crazy to think this is my last profile. To be honest, I don’t even know what to write. To think of a summer without Avoda is unimaginable. I grew up at camp. Ever since I was 10 years old, Avoda has been my home. One thing I learned over the years is that even if you are not at Avoda, Avoda is always with you. It’s the brotherhood, the memories, and the lessons learned that make Avoda. Bunk 10- you guys were by far the best bunk I’ve had since I’ve been at camp. You guys made me feel young again and brought back a lot of good memories for me from when I was a camper. You guys are true Avodians and I know you guys will continue to grow into the leaders I know you all are. I can’t wait to come back in 2 years and see you guys in the mighty bunk 14. You guys are the best. Fixie- you’re my buddy. I’m sorry DW’s didn’t turn out the way you would’ve have liked, but you’re an awesome general and you did great that day regardless of the outcome. Through thick and thin you have always had my back and there’s no one I’d rather have as my first lieutenant than my best buddy. I hope that you come back one more year and take all the opportunities that are there for you. Fogel-Awesome job in DW’s and in bunk 14. You led the camp the way it was supposed to be and I’m glad we we’re able to hang out one last summer. I still think about how sick it was that we lived in the back of 12 when we were co-counselors last

year. It’s like we had our own cabin. Watty- I’m really happy you came back for one more summer. Pre-camp in the back of 12 with Judd was hilarious. We both knew that when it came down to it, that we would be going against each other in CW. You’re a great competitor. We’ve been great friends for a long time and regardless of what happens this week, we’ll be even better friends after. Leon- Thank You. You’ve been a positive influence in my life and I can’t thank you enough for all you have done for me. You truly are the M.V.P. of Avoda. Gary- it was awesome working with you this sumner. I learned a lot about the job, but also about myself and how to handle difficult situations. Thank you for this positive experience which I know will help me down the road.

for a better staff. The way this team just gels together feels right. This team has the most important quality and that’s heart. I’m so excited for the week ahead of us. Waltzman- you’re going to be awesome this week. I’m so happy to have you as a captain. You stepped up to the plate this year and lead 14 the way it was supposed to be lead. Jd, miklos, strachman, joco- what more can I say: you guys are my brothers for life. Always having my back through good and bad. Love you guys.

Ken- You’ve been a very positive influence and I can’t thank you enough for not only what you’ve done for me, but what you do for Avoda. Thank you for believing in me. PGD- you told me 13 years ago when I first got dropped off that I would love this place and you were right. The amount of lives that you have impacted is unmeasurable. I am a better person for knowing you. Blue Apes- Fixie, H-Dogg, Tish, Yake, Shay & Frank, thank you for believing in me as a leader. I couldn’t have asked

Bunk 10- thanks for being my buds this summer. You guys were great. Keep coming back. As a 14 you’ll be fine as long as you realize you need to behave more like true avodians. Matt Friedman: Bunk 11 Counselor, 3rd Year Senior Counselor, Head of Ropes, Head of Rainy Day Activities, Desert War HJ This year at camp Avoda has flown by just as fast as the other 9 years before it. To think that I have spent half of my life an Avodian sounds crazy but 10 summers later I can confidently say I’ve been an Avodian all my life I just hadn’t realized it yet. 23 Gibbs Road has sustained itself in being my favorite place on Earth from the ropes course to the third area. The only regret I have in my tenure at Avoda is that I didn’t start sooner. Seeing all of the people that have become like brothers to me each summer is always the highlight of my year; where the best memories are made. I will never forget this place to matter how long after I’m gone or how far away from this place I may be. Bunk 11: Being a counselor for all you awesome guys has made for a great summer. To get to hang out so many kids that I’ve been alongside with as campers has been a privilege. From reffing your bunk knee hockey league and tournament to getting Apazidis in the morning, your attitude towards camp and its traditions makes me glad to have been your counselor this year. I hope all of you come back next year and I’m sure you’ll make for a great bunk 14. 2k10 14: I can’t believe how fast this summer flew by and can’t imagine a better group of guys to share it with. For the last 10 years every one of you has been part of my second family at

Avoda. I know we have all changed since 2006 when I first came to Avoda but I’m glad that our loyalty to each other has only grown. Israel was an unreal experience and wouldn’t have wanted to go with anyone else. I love all you guys and look forward to continuing to kill it whenever we get together. Staff: This year could have gone two ways but from the beginning you fellas stayed optimistic and it turned out to be one of my favorite years on staff. I’m not sure whether I’ll be back next year as a counselor but it relieves me to know I can always stop by to visit. Kahan & Simmons: Being a Cocounselor with you two has been a fun ride. When I found out we were gonna be Co’s I knew we would have an exciting summer. Locking down bunk 11 could never be as enjoyable as it was this summer. I can’t wait to visit both of you in the off season. PGD: Mr. Davis it truly has been an honor and privilege to work for you the last four years. The dedication you have for camp is insurmountable and the amount of work you’ve over the last half a century is priceless. I think I speak for everyone when I say camp would not be around anymore if it wasn’t for you. You’ve changed the lives of countless young men and I wish you the best of luck on your retirement and hope to see you soon.

I am so happy that Avoda has become such a large part of my life. I have spent the last 11 summers at Avoda and I believe that this is my final summer. While it is very sad to think about a summer not at camp, I have had such an unbelievable experience and wouldn’t have it no other way. My only advice to anyone reading this is to come back long as possible. Avoda is a special place. For me every summer is better than the last. Bunk 11/12: It has been such a pleasure being you’re counselor these last two summers. All of you have really grown up a lot since last year and have become great Avodians. I know that all of you will do an amazing job leading the camp next summer. I am so proud of Bunk 11 in particlualr, you guys are a bunch of characters and really have stepped up this summer in all senses. Bunk 14: you guys have been awesome this summer. It has been so amazing to watch all of you grow

134 6

from when I was you’re counselor in 2012 to now. You have lead by example and I know that you will make color war an amazing week. I have had such a great time chilling with you guys during ropes and the canoe. Speical shout outs to Bagel boy, Crack, Seagull, Romo and the future ropes winner, you all better be back next year. Friedman and Kahuna: It has been a blast being co’s with both of you. Friedman you are my boy and I am so happy that you were my first 2k10 co. Kahan you are one of the most stubborn people I have ever met and while sometimes it can be infuriating it also why you’re so great. Hell of a summer boys. Aj and H: I most likely won’t be with you guys in 14 next summer but I know that you will lead 2k16 to greatness. George: you are Mr. nice guy but you are also the reckless operator and thats why I love you. I am so happy how much we got to chill so much this summer. Knishing was emotional abuse but we got through it together. There is no one I would rather be a head Judge with, its gonna be a crazy week. There is a 90 to 10 chance I will be visiting the zoo this year.

2k10: This is not at all how I thought this summer would play out but at least we were in it together. I had had an amazig past 11 summers and it is because of all of you. Not being with all of you next summer will be the toughest part. I love all of you and we need to keep in touch this year.

As the summer winds down I have begun to reflect on my years at good ‘ol Camp Avoda. I’m not sure if this is my last time working at camp but I hope I will be back next year. I want to thank the people that made this summer the best summer yet. First, my bunk. Bunk 11 you guys have been awesome all summer. You all went through some rough patches together but at the end of the day the struggles only make you guys closer. Never forget the fact that if you want to be the best bunk in camp then you can be, all you have to do is try. Second, my Co’s. Simmons and Friedman, our journey started in israel this summer even though we had no idea we were gonna be Co’s. It’s been an awesome summer and we killed it as counselors. (Despite my coasting) Third and most important, the entitled 2k11 14. You guys are the reason I never want to leave. Hopefully next summer everything works out and we can return for another summer and run camp for real. I’ll miss all of you throughout this school year and I hope to visit a bunch of you at college. Aj, I can’t believe your back at camp but I’m so glad you are. You make everyone laugh and are just a character to have around. I’m happy you didn’t die in the navy and I know that whatever twists and turns life throws at you, you will be just fine. Mike, I love your house and Newton so thanks for the hospitality and letting Tish and I have an experience of a lifetime. Hi Tish. You are ridiculous and mean sometimes but our relationship is unseperable. Come visit me at wisco this year so we can make more stories. Love ya

Tish and never forget the chocolate bar. Last but not least, h-dogg. H you’re a great friend and we had some awesome times this summer. I love our conversations and Mook on my friend. Thanks to the rest of staff and the campers for making this summer enjoyable, entertaining and most importantly memorable.

This is my ninth summer at Camp Avoda and once again has been the best summer yet. After a successful and great first year of college, I was lucky enough to go on the Birthright trip to Israel with a large group of Avodians. It was a trip of a lifetime and I highly recommend it. It was the perfect trip leading up to the summer. Although some of the Avodians were not able to return back to camp with the rest of us, it was great spending the time together in the Holy land. It just goes to show that when you are with Avodians, even if you’re not at Avoda, it will always be a blast. I really have enjoyed every moment this summer and can say that this summer has been one of the best yet. I hope it works out for me to be back for one more. Jonah and Strachouse: We had quite the dynamic this summer. It was great kickin’ it in the back 12 pad and we definitely did it right. Jonah, I’m glad we got a lot closer this summer, whether it was gas runs, trips to Derek’s, forgetting receipts, or just hanging out on the waterfront... we always made sure to have a goodtime. House, it was awesome having you around this summer. You were great at conserving the old Avoda ways around the bunk and I enjoyed having your laid back personality and ya pomade around as well. Good luck finishing up school and have an awesome year you two. Bunk 12 (and 11): I’m so glad I got to be your counselor this summer. Bunk 11, don’t think I forgot about you guys, it was great having the opportunity to have both sides in the span of two

You guys have truly united and I am excited to see what next summer holds in store for you guys. I am confident that you guys will be able to lead this camp very well. Hopefully I can be back to have you all for one last hoorah. AJ: I can’t believe everything that has happened this year. You are incredibly determined and I am proud of everything that you have done. First month was hard not having you back, but I am so glad that you ended up back at Avoda. You know how much I love you, Boar. YEARS! I have vivid memories of my first summer back in 2003. I shared a cabin with Ryan Hopkinson in the current bunk one. Now this is my Barmitzvah year. I have truly enjoyed every bit of it. This summer, like all the rest, has truly been a busy one. It all started back in February with Admin getting together, February seems like years ago. Avoda has a way of slowing down time as if your stuck in a time warp. The summer always seems when camp is in session. As this summer comes to an end, I look forward to what the summer of 2016 may bring. Before I get there, I want to thank a few people for the summer of 2015. Bunk 14 - You guys were AWESOME! I was glad to have you guys as campers. Hard to believe it all started last summer in bunk 11/12. Well before that, I knew you guys were a special group. I hope you enjoyed all the great times together. We certainly had our ups and downs. I know I pushed you guys at times. I wanted you all to realize your true potential and push yourself. Its amazing

138 6

to see the growth over the course of two months. You guys certainly bonded together and became an official 14. I wish I had more time to truly get to know each and everyone one of you.You guys are all like little brothers to me. Always here for you guys. I look forward to having you around as CIT’s next summer. Keep in touch! Miklos, George, and Jared You guys were great Co’s to have in the bunk. I know we had our ups and downs but we made it. Thank you for all your help. Keep in touch and I’ll see you around. Eli/Waltzman - Congrats on being captains this past week. You both truly earned it and more. Always hear for you guys. Keep in touch. JC’s - You guys were very impressive this summer.. Hard to believe I was just your 14 counselor in 2013. Staff - All in all, another great summer. This was a different type of summer for some reason or another. Just a few bumps in the road. Over all, good work. Keep coming back as long as you can. Bubba - We all miss you! Glad you were apart of my life for so many years.Your memory and legacy will live on forever. Your spot at camp (the backstop) will serve

as a memory for all future Avodians. Rest in Peace. PGD - Thank you for 50 years of service! I can’t imagine this place without you. You’ll be missed but certainly not forgotten. I wish you all the best on your next adventure. Admin - We did it! Another one for the books. I’ll pat myself on the back. Take one for yourself. Gary - It’s been great working with you over the past few summers. Thanks for all the support. Josh - What a run! It will be hard to imagine you not at Avoda next summer. You were my connection to past memories. I know I’ll see you around. I wish you all the best in your next summers adventure. There will always be a spot for you when you’re ready to return. Ken - Thanks again for another great summer. I look forward to transformational summer of 2016. To all the campers at AVODA, thank you for being you. No matter how many changes our made to this place, the campers of AVODA make this place very special. I realize I didn’t thank everyone individual or mention everyone’s name,Thank You for another great summer. See ya next year!

I hope you are reading my profile in the highest of health. Coming back this summer I didn’t know what to expect. Actually, wait that’s a complete lie. Coming into this summer I was pretty sure I was going to be a bunk 14 counselors and was 100% positive that I would be teaching LGT. This was my 13th summer at camp and I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else during the summer. I have to thank Sir Michael Summergrad for introducing me to camp Avoda. If mike hadn’t put an Avoda brochure in my hand after Hebrew school I would have never fallen in love with this place and had a 2nd home. This may be my last summer at camp Avoda but I will try my hardest in the off season to return for a 14th summer. Just to put things in perspective for some of you new campers. I was a 6 year camper and have now completed my 6th year on staff. I have given back the 6 years I enjoyed so much as a child. With that said ALL of you should come back to camp as long as you can and pay it forward to the next generation. Think about it, how cool would it be as a first year camper to make it to bunk 14 and have the kids who were in 14 your first year be your counselors. Its freakin nuts. Bunk 14- You were a bunk of 31 children. That is all. Sabin here is your shout out you asked for. Leon, George and Fogel- I really enjoyed being Co’s with all of you. Leon it was

nice to go full circle and have you as my bunk 14 counselors and now being Co’s for these kids. George and Fogel I had a really good time on the overnight with you two and I hope you can both come back next year (if not I understand but pleases for the love of mike try and come for alumni weekend. Elder Gentleman- Hey guys it’s been a helluva summer. Running things from the top of the pyramid just like the prophecy foretold (prophecy- 5 dope dudes will return to camp and be in charge of every single entity, also they gonna keep it TRILL). Thank you for going in the water all the times I wanted to stay dry. Jake congrats on getting a job laying pipe for Furguson. After 4 years at umass and one case of mono you should be sailing fine laying pipe all over the state. Joco I am so glad you came back to camp this summer. I had a great time hanging out with you in the goat house. You are the hardest working member on staff. Louis it’s been a great school year at UMB with you. You and me were like mountain rams during pre pre. Like the ram we would but heads at times but then continue on like nothing happened. Best of luck during CW. WATERFRONT STAFF- Thanks guys for all your hard work this summer. You are the hardest working staff at Avoda. Thank you for showing up to waterfront clean up. Aaron Thanks for taking care of swim testing kids and dealing with my impatience. Jonah and Harrison, you guys did a kick ass job at small crafts. There was always gas and Starbrite ready to go.

Nine summers at Camp Avoda. Nine summers of the best times of my life. It feels like I’ve been here so long and yet I’m still not ready to leave. Sadly, I think my time here is winding down, and when I finally do leave this place… well I’m not sure, but I know it’s not going to be fun. Camp Avoda is a part of who I am, and I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to attend this camp and experience almost everything it has to offer. The best thing I can do now is give back to this place that has given so much to me. Bunk 14: I want to thank each and every one of you (yes, all 31) for giving me the summer of a lifetime. I remember earlier this year seeing some of you at Bubba’s Funeral when you asked me if I was going to be your counselor, and at the time I really didn’t think I would be. But, a few months later, I got a call from Leon about the upcoming summer, and when I found out I’d get to be your counselor again, I was pumped. You guys are all such a cast of characters and have

140 6

contributed so much to camp this summer, whether it’s been leading all the campers through Desert War, or commanding Indian Relay teams. You guys all deserve to be back next summer, and for those of you on the fence about returning, listen up. If you don’t come back you will regret it so much and miss out on so many good times with your boys. Overall, great job this summer boys, I’m proud to have been a counselor of the mighty 2K15 Bunk 14. Fogel, Miklos & Leon: Fogel, it was so awesome to have been a 14 counselor with one of my boys from 2K10. We’ve been killing it so far this year, and sadly there’s not much time left to go. I feel like I’ve somehow gotten to know you even better through this experience and want you to know that I consider you to be one of my best friends. You know I always love to visit Sharon so I’m sure I’ll be up sometime soon. Miklos, you’ve been doing exceptionally well as a Bunk 14 counselor, especially when it comes to keeping the kids entertained. Thank you for being such an awesome person, and really taking the time to go over big decisions with all of us, even though you

are older than both me and Fogel. Leon, thank you for always being on your game, whether it was making decisions about the 14 overnight, or something as simple as staff shirts. You always know what to do in any situation with the bunk and I could not imagine the summer without you as a co. 2K10: Well boys, we thought it was going to be our summer, and sadly it wasn’t. I can’t say I’ve had a bad time, though, and having all of you here made the summer so much better. You guys will always be my brothers no matter what, and if any of you are ever in need you know you can always call me. Maybe some of us will be back, maybe some of us won’t. Regardless of what happens, we’ve always got each other and I plan on seeing all of you this upcoming year. AWOOT AWOOT AWOOT. “Ay yo A-Rubes!”: I have to keep this short because Leon won’t allow that many words in here, but I can’t believe we’ve already spent so much time here at camp. It’s been crazy to say the least and I couldn’t imagine Avoda without you. Simmons: Taking on League Commissioner is no easy task, and we have been dealing with mental abuse all summer long. Like pretty bad, actually, but we’ll be fine. I better see you at UMass this year man… I suggest Blarney.

SC Bunk 14 • 2010 Bunk 14 • 1st Lt White Olympians • 1st Lt White Cowboys • Tri-Asst Athletic Dir • Head of Evening Activities Sr Hoops Coach This is it. My last staff profile. My last color war. My last days as a counselor. It’s surreal to say the least. I’m going to miss this place. Shoutouts: Brett - I wasn’t coming back this summer without you. I know it’s been a tough summer this year as a CIT. It’s been a lot of work and you can’t always roam and enjoy camp as you may otherwise have. But I know that in the end, your love of this place trumps all else. Over the years you have become more of an Avodian than I could have ever imagined. Though I may not always be by your side, I hope you know that I’m always looking out for you. You have and always will be my brother, and though I may be gone at college, I want to hear from you a lot more. Love ya bro. 2k10 - I love all you guys. Things were a little different this summer but we stuck together and made the best of it. I hope some of you guys come back because we need some more of 2k10 to run camp next year. I better see you all in the offseason. Fix – It’s been a great run. From giving me my first tour in ’04 to walking down the path as 3rd year SCs, it’s crazy that we’re where we are. You live and breath Avoda and it shows all year round. You’re my best friend and we’re always going to stick together and talk about Avoda, whether we’re here or not. It’s going to be tough going up against you for my last color war, but I made sure we had our time for Ddubs and on the Vikings. At the end of the day, we’ll be back in Sharon, the two Super Bowl Champions. Watman – I’m flattered but I can’t. We’ve moved passed the first month fiasco and started working together like we always have. From aides on the Barbarians to

Lieutenants on the Prophets and Vikings, we’ve been waiting and talking about this color war for too long. It’s our time and let’s take it. Everyone in camp wants to be on our team and let’s show them why. I’ll see you in the offseason. Tish – You’re a nerd. Come visit me at Virginia and maybe I’ll consider coming to NYC. Hopefully we can live it up in NYC next summer if you find an internship. Although I couldn’t get you on my team, we got really close this year and Israel and I hope we keep in touch because you’re one of my best friends here. Deuce – Best of luck this week. We’ve both come a long way since the back of Bunk 12 and I can’t wait to go up against you again. Let’s kick it in the offseason. George, Leon, and Miklos – Been a pleasure running 14 with you guys. We locked it down and gave these kids an amazing year that they’ll never forget. George – You’re my boy and you’ll always be a Fogel. We locked it down in the back right. I’m visiting at UMass and let’s live it up because I’m gonna miss ya. 2k15 14 – It was truly an amazing summer. 14 year was one of the best summers of my life and I hope you guys felt the same way. Recruit each other to come back. CIT year brings your 14 closer together than ever before. It is more than worth the work to be on staff It was a privilege to be your counselor and I wish you guys the best in your sophomore year of high school. Finally, don’t forget to keep in touch with your brothers, as these guys should be some of your best friends. Eli and Waltzman - You two will be leading camp for the next week. Enjoy every moment, because there’s nothing better than 14 color war. Come back as long as you guys can, because Avoda needs you guys more than you two know.

Eli - You remind me a lot of myself, maybe not as great of an athlete, but sure as hell a better leader and speaker. Lead the camp like I know you can, with the confidence and maturity you have led with this summer. Win or lose this week, we’ll always be boyz. Keep in touch. Ty – The Avoda experience is so much more than a captian decision. Come back and you won’t regret it. Cowboys - A couple things go our way and we easily could’ve been in the lake. Fix, Tish, Aaron, Benji, Wes, it was a pleasure working with all you guys. We had a helluva time, definitely the most fun I’ve had with any desert war team. Eli and Romanow - you guys gave it everything you had, and that’s all we ever could have asked for. I hope you guys never forget the Cowboys and all the good times. We dem boyz. White Olympians – Watty, Shale, Benji, Drew, Abe, Ilan – This team is stacked and I know we’ll go out on top with this team in the lake. This week is going to be amazing, both on and off the field, and there’s no way we’re going to lose. U.S.A. Armageddon - When this team was playing to its full potential, we couldn’t lose. 14ers - Jake, Jay, Artie, Drew, Mitch - thanks for giving me the opportunity to coach you guys. Romanow - You fought through that injury like a true Sharon athlete. You may not have been as skilled or athletic as Fixler or I but you definitely killed it this summer.

I think I have said this for the last 3 years, but now I know for certain that this will be my last summer here. I have put off the real world for this beloved fantasy land for as long as I possibly could but now it is time to face the music. We all know that the end is inevitable but even when it is staring you in the face it still feels surreal. The countless memories and friends I’ve made here will remain in my heart forever. There is nothing like an Avoda bond. Nothing. I’ve had high school friends, college friends, and friends I made studying abroad, but there is no friend like an Avoda friend. These are my best buds that I can go to for anything, and whom I genuinely like spending my time with more than anybody else. Coming here for 2 months is the greatest gift and privilege that we get to enjoy. No one gets why we do what we do, but you know what, that’s ok. I’ve tried to explain it to people and all of them just do not get it. And that is ok with me. I know what this place offers, I know how special this place is and how we

get to enjoy it all together. It is something indescribable but we all know that it is just right. This place has a lot of magic in its nooks and crannies and it is now time for me to pass the torch to the next generation of great AVODIANS to run this place like it should and take care of it so that all past AVODIANS can come back and appreciate and remember all the great times we have had here. ’08 14- It’s been a helluva run guys and I love you all. Deuce, Miklos, Shed and the one month camper Joco, boy has it been a great summer. We’ve ran this place for a damn long time and I hope that some of you are able to come back next year so I got a place to crash when I come and visit. Good luck to all you boys in da future and I’m going to miss kickin it with the OG Old Men crew. Aaron Rubin

CIT Director • 2010 Bunk 14 Asst Waterfront Dir • Head of Swim Co-Head of Archives • Head of River Staff 3rd Lt White Cowboys • CW Consultant To be honest I had no idea what was in store for me this summer after finding out my position, but I’m glad I accepted the role. This is the first time in my Avoda career that I’m not sure whether I’ll be back next summer and it’s definitely a strange feeling. This summer has been full of amazing memories that I’ll never forget. 2k10: I had a very, very different idea of how this summer was gonna go back in the early offseason and was nervous about how it would all turn out as the summer got closer, but given what it was, I think we’ve made the best of it. You guys have been my brothers for the last ten years and even though this summer might not have turned out how we expected, we’ve had a great ride on staff. Camp might not have been what it used to be when we were first JCs, but it’s been a great summer nonetheless. Let’s see what happens and maybe we’ll be back for one more year to run the show. Fixler/Fogel: Thanks for giving me the opportunity to be a part of the Cowboys, it was an experience that I’ll never forget. George: We’ve had some great times together. Keep on being yourself, you’re one of the greatest guys I’ve ever met and one of my best friends. I’ll be up at Umass for sure this offseason. Do your best to come back next year and I’ll try and do the same. CITs: While at times your work

ethic was lacking and your promptness might not have been up to the expectations that Jake, Joco, and I set forth at the beginning in the summer you’re all a great group of guys. It was a pleasure being your CIT Director this summer and guiding you on your way to becoming counselors. I can already tell that some of you will make great counselors one day and hope to see most of you back here for years to come. JCs: You guys might very well have been the best group of JCs to roll through camp since the illustrious 2k10. Keep coming back, you guys are the future of this place and camp needs you more than you know. 2k11: What a summer. From Israel to Pre-camp to the rest of the summer it’s been a great time. I know it’s tough, but do your best to come back next year, we need some older guys running the show and I can guarantee that you’ll regret it if you don’t. Who needs internships anyway? 2k8: Besides my own 14, I’d say that I’m closer to you then any other age group. Ever since Pre-Pre last year we’ve become really good friends and I’m glad you all could come back for one more summer. Jake: It’s too bad we couldn’t be roommates in the goat-house, that would have been a hell of a time. We did a great job with the CITS, hopefully they’ll make good counselors one day. Joco: It was great to have you lead us

on our trip to Israel and work with Jake and I on the CITs. Hope you’re killing it out there in California. White Cowboys: Just like we told you at the end of the day, we could not have been more proud of you guys. You gave it your all till the very end and there’s nothing more that we could have asked of you. I would not have changed a single pick for anyone on there team. PGD: What can I say that hasn’t been said before? You’ve been the life-blood of AVODA for the last 50 years and that’s something that no one else can say. Your 50th anniversary party in May was a true testament to the effect that you’ve had on all of our lives since you joined the AVODA community. I hope you have a fantastic off-season and hope to see you visit in the next couple years. To everyone that I’ve come to know these past ten years, thank you for everything. If this is the end then I’m happy with all that I’ve accomplished over these last ten years, and If not then I will see you all again for another summer at Dear Old Avoda. Until we meet again, Avoda Have a great offseason

Looking forward to seeing you in Florida in December. The summer of 2015 is one that I will not soon forget. Coming back this year was unexpected for me, but I could not be happier with the way things turned out. Being able to maintain the relationships that I have formed here at Camp Avoda is truly a privilege, and I am grateful for every moment that I was able to spend on the shores of Lake Tispaquin. I came back to camp with an entirely new perspective on life. In the end, I learned that when you are faced with difficult circumstances, the most important thing you can do is to surround yourself with people who genuinely care about you. For me, those people are at Avoda. Camp Avoda is and always will be a constant in my life. I hope to be back next summer, but sometimes life gets in the way with your plans. However, I will never be willing to give up the relationships I have formed here. Avoda has taught me more than I could ever have anticipated: above all, love is the most important thing a man can have. I love Avoda, I love the people here, and I love the person that Avoda has helped me become. For that, I am forever grateful. Until next time. Good night Camp Avoda. 2K1114: Upp second year SC’s upp killin it. You guys have no idea how

much each and every one of you mean to me. We have grown up side by side and have grown into incredible people as a result. I can’t wait until next year when we are truly running staff. It’s our time, men. Good luck to all of you pleasseee come visit me in DC. Harrison: Boar, you are the best friend I could ever ask for. When I found out I was coming back this summer all I wanted to know was how you reacted to the sudden news. You are the reason I keep coming back and I hope to share countless more memories with you as we get older. Good luck in the bayou and never change mah man. Zach: What a ride we have had together. Throughout the ups and downs for me this year, you were always there for me. I look back to the day in 2009 when you told me that you were coming to Avoda with me, and I could never picture it any other way.You mean the world to me buddy. Keep it real at Wisco, and I’ll see you down south. Tish: You are ridiculous. Upp I’m coming to school with you. Shtay shalty my friend. Mike: ehhh McMigggoo. Thanks for hosting all the days off buddy. Always a great time at the Shale household.

My Roomie JD: The goat was fresh this summer. Loved roomin’ with you and working with Aaron and the CITs. Good luck to you in the real world. Team Avoda: you guys did everything I asked of you and then some. Even though we did not end up winning the tourney, you all made me so proud. Can’t wait till next year boys. PGD: Mr. Davis, thank you for all you have done for Camp Avoda throughput your 50 years here. You have had a profound impact on my life and I will never forget your warmth, kindness, and passion for Avoda. Thank you for being an inspiration to generations of Avodians and I hope to see you soon down the road. Dot dots...I mayyy or mayyyy not be coming back to camp... Leekwah-ccheed neetro-cchochageen... As my time at Camp Avoda comes to an end, I can’t believe how quickly it has passed. I remember the day before camp started I found a copy of last year’s Avodian. Reading through the counsellor’s profiles each expressed how fast time goes by at camp, but sitting here writing my own profile with only two weeks left of the summer I could never have imagined how right they would be. My summer at Avoda has been one of the best of my life and that is all down to the people I have met here. Each person has made me feel so welcome and like I’ve been part of Avoda for years. I don’t know if I’ll ever be back at Camp Avoda again, so a big thank you to everyone for making this such an incredible summer and for making me feel like a part of the Avoda family.

improving my music taste! A special shout out has to go though to Ryan Litner. Thanks for always driving me to Cumbies and for taking me to the Revolution game, but most of all being one of my closest friends at camp. I hope you become a Buckeye like you’ve always wanted buddy.

To all the counsellors, you guys are awesome! I’ve enjoyed running periods with you and getting to know you all.You guys really make Avoda what it is by keeping the traditions and spirit of this place alive. And thank you for teaching me shoulders, I’ll definitely be taking that back to Scotland!

Mr Davis: Congratulations on 50 years at Avoda! I’ll forever be amazed at how you seem to remember every kid’s name, even the former campers who may have not been at camp for over 30 years, and how you manage to find anything on that desk!

To the counsellors of Bunk 3 and 4, Greg, Wes, Swartz, Dan and Litner, you guys deserve a mention. I think I hung out in your cabin more than any other. Thank you for letting me nap in your beds and for sure

To all the campers: I suppose I better mention you guys! I hope everyone enjoyed their summer at Camp Avoda and continue to return for many years to come. It was fun getting to know every single one of you. I hope you all enjoyed making fun of my accent, although I already know that many of you did.

Kim and Geneva: Thank you for letting me hang out in the infirmary all the time using your wifi and air conditioning. I’ll miss sitting at the head table with you guys at every meal, and thank you so much for introducing me to peanut butter

and jelly sandwiches! Matt Geddes: This experience could have been very different if we had not gotten on so well, but luckily we have. I’ll always remember our road trips to Cape Cod and Boston, and the many trips to Walmart. The sing alongs in the car will also be remembered fondly! Our ping pong battles have been epic, but I think I’m winning overall, even if only slightly! I look forward to our travels after camp and good luck with everything once you return home. ...Shut it down...Ahhh summer on the Cape...Know who you want boys...Stick some JD on...Fill it, fill it...The Green Fence...Jack and Diane...Hockey...International Staff 2k15...Trying to say “six”... Watch me whip...He’s a big boy!... Liz...Sweet Caroline...Social...I’m in love with the JoCo....You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take...

The most striking thing about Avoda for me was how welcoming everyone has been. It’s the first year they have opened up to nonalum as staff and I can’t thank all the other counselors enough for making myself and Adam as integrated as possible (even with our lack of knowledge about tradition and games that were new to us like Flag Rush and Dead Zone) despite the abrupt change to your traditions. I would say that the welcoming nature of the staff has been a continuation of a surprising maturity that the majority of campers seem to have of years beyond their age, seemingly instilled throughout summer upon summer spent at Avoda. The most disappointing thing for me is probably that this is like to be my only summer at camp. In the UK we don’t have this sort of set up where kids can go away for two months and enjoy the best part of their year and so I have very much missed out on the wonderful experience that all

146 6

these kids I have had the pleasure of working with have year on year. This summer has been the best possible way I could have spent my last free summer before I have to go into real life and get a real job and start to take life seriously and so I would like to thank all campers and staff for making it truly unforgettable. It’s been a joy to see young guys from Bunks 1+2 start a friendship that, as precedent suggests, will give them infinite memories and the strongest friendships Shoutout Senior Soccer 2015, robbed of a sixth consecutive Avoda Tournament win Shoutout Ropes Staff 2015 (despite me not belaying a single kid in any period this summer) Shoutout International Staff 2015 (Adam Cowan). I was dreading being thrown into 2 months with someone I couldn’t tolerate so I’m glad that you turned out to be a cool guy I didn’t resent having to spend time with. Shoutout all of bunks 1-5 for making my job easy and being great kids to work with Shoutout Jake Swartz for being great at everything. Finally a huge thanks to Ken and Gary and all admin staff for

giving me this opportunity and congratulations to PGD for 50 years at Avoda. That’s a huge achievement and I’m glad I could be part of only 2% of it, and jealous that I didn’t have a chance to be part of more. Thanks.

Another summer winds down here at dear old A-V-O-D-A. And as always, A GOOD TIME WAS HAD BY ALL. I couldn’t be more pleased with the nurturing environment for the campers to learn and grow this year. Avoda is truly a great place for boys to spend their youth. Thank you counselors for creating this safe place for kids to discover themselves. This summer marks the end of an era. What an amazing feat PGD. You have given countless boys the times of their lives, and helped them become the great men they are today. It’s hard to imagine Avoda without PGD. It will be a transitionary period, but as always, Avoda will be okay. Thank you PGD, WE LOVE YOU, and will always remember you as MR. AVODA.

take next summer and spend it traveling around the United States. I am sad to leave, but I feel great leaving the camp in the hands of Ken, Gary, and Leon. Hopefully, I will be back someday to continue my Avoda career. Ken, Gary, and Leon- What a great team we were this year. I will miss working with you guys professionally, but look forward to our continued friendships. Michele- I know it can be difficult being one of the only women in camp. Thank you for all the time you spent down here supporting me and camp. I look forward to our future adventures. I LOVE YOU! CAMP AVODA, I WILL MISS YOU!

Bubba, it was tough being down here this summer without you. At every turn you came into my thoughts. I LOVE YOU BUDDY! I miss you! This summer is my 17th at camp. I was a camper and counselor from 1982-1993, and returned as an administrator from 20112015. It was extremely difficult to make this decision, but it’s time for me to again move on. My love Michele and I have decided to
