DEDICATION:

Prior to 2008, Camp Avoda was run by the everlasting Paul G. Davis. Year after year, Mr. Davis worked with the rest of the administration to ensure Avoda reached its fullest potential; however, he never had a true director to work with.

When Ken Shifman arrived on the scene, that changed in an instant. Ken and Mr. Davis immediately became a power duo who were able to tackle the biggest issues at camp. Following Mr. Davis’ retirement after the 2015 summer, Ken was ready to immediately ll his shoes as the executive director for Camp Avoda — not an easy feat.

Serving as executive director is often a thankless job — handling paperwork, recruiting and making sure camp remains a well-oiled machine. That said, Ken ful lls this role to perfection, and we want to thank him for making Avoda what it is today; that is why the 2021 Avodian is directed to him.

Thank you, Ken.

2

After missing out on last summer and all the memories that could have been made, we knew this year’s Avodian would have to be special. We aim to capture the brotherhood, leadership, spirit, and tradition of camp in these 140 or so pages. Senior Counselors Matt Peljovich, Paul Samberg, Max Scribner, and Ben Jacoby took the helm and steered 14 sta ers Jason Karas, Harry Davidson, Brett Itchkow, Ben “Plotty” Burdetsky, and Ryan Wilkov plus custodian Nathaniel Ilfeld to a successful nal product. Yearbook extraordinaire Sharon Sock put it all together to make the nished piece.

We present to you: the 2021 Avodian!

BUNK 14 OVERNIGHT

The 14ers woke up early on a Thursday morning eager to get their overnight started. They ate a delicious camp breakfast and loaded up the bus. The eight hour trip included stops for lunch, a much needed Target run, and many bathroom breaks. After the long drive, the campers arrived at their nal destination, Camp Moxie in Maine. Despite the rainy weather, the counselors cooked up an incredible outdoor barbeque. The following morning, Bunk 14 woke up and got ready to go white water rafting. The campers split into 3 groups and hit the water. The rapids were exhilarating, with 14ers Max Leavitt and Max Jacoby both falling into the water. Quick to use the newly taught technique, aggressive

self-rescue, they swiftly returned to their positions in the rafts. After multiple hours on the rapids, the 14ers returned to Moxie where they were met with a sumptuous meal of grilled chicken and steak. The bunk rested during the afternoon and had a great dinner out at a local restaurant. At night, the campers were met with an amazing rework display over the lake. The next day, Bunk 14 packed their bags and got ready for the long ride home. They stopped at an amazing diner in Maine for lunch and were served the biggest pancakes on the East Coast. Leon was unable to nish his full meal, making him that night’s biggest loser. Once the meal was over, a select few went to the Maine Antique Tractor Club’s

Alzheimer’s fundraiser. With the Tractor Show in the past, they hit the road. Many hours later, the bus pulled into a movie theater for a matinee showing of Black Widow. Then, the overnight wrapped up with a great dinner at Bu alo Wild Wings, and Bunk 14 returned to camp with great memories of a

OPENING DAY

70 SPECIAL ACTIVITIES

4TH OF JULY

The Fourth of July is an annual holiday celebrated by Americans nationally. As campers at Avoda can’t make it out to the reworks over the Charles, we bring the celebration to camp. After daily practices like breakfast and bunk clean-up, the festivities began when campers faced-o against the evil counselor gladiators in various competitions. Next, it was time for the classic American hotdog eating contest. While it was a tough competition between the likes of Brett Litner, Will Cooper, and Jake Romanow, it was ultimately one of our very own Kitchen Boys, Jonathan, that took the win. Now that everyone’s stomachs were full, the mud wrestling began. With various match-ups, such as our director Ken “AAA” Shi man versus all of Bunk 1, it was a sight to behold. After some showers and a barbeque lunch, it was time for the annual carnival.

71 SPECIAL ACTIVITIES

FLAGRUSH

After a two year hiatus, campers and counselors alike were ecstatic to hit the eld for Avoda’s main event, agrush. At the end of dinner, teams and captains were announced: Drew and Cole Busny for the white team versus Matthew Friedman and Jason Karas for blue. Flagrush started o with a freshman-sophomore quarter, featuring scores from both David Hicks and Hillel Goldberg. After an intense battle between the younger campers, the quarter ended with Blue in the lead. The whole camp then stepped on the eld ready to play. Captain Friedman was quick to score with his ag coming in at the four minute mark. White quickly retaliated with a Sam MacGilpin throw to Max Leavitt at the line. After halftime and a much needed water break, the teams were anxious to get back on the eld. White dominated the third quarter with incredible defense from Ben Burdetsky, however the defense came too little too late, and in the end, blue rushed to second base, chanting “We’re number one!” to celebrate their win.

72 SPECIAL ACTIVITIES

As per tradition, the evening activity on the second night of camp was the other popular Avoda sport: zooball. The teams were read along with the four captains: Harry Davidson and Max Jacoby for blue against Sam MacGilpin and Sammy Schreiber for white. Throughout the rst half of the game, blue assumed the upper hand lead by Captain Davidson and Jonny Peters goals. At the half, blue extended their lead with Avner Israeli’s penalty goal.

After the half, the white team decided to focus on defense, moving some of their o enders to defense. While Jason Karas provided a small spark for the white team, blue remained the powerhouse throughout the second half. Cole Busny and Harry Davidson took many shots on net, trying to score on white’s goalies, Sam Peljovich and Nathaniel Ilfeld. After Jason Karas missed the nal penalty shot for white, blue ran to second base to celebrate, screaming “We’re number one!”

73 SPACIAL ACTIVITIES
ZOOBALL

The announcement after breakfast of Avoda Tourney Day was met with cheers and then silence…well, Avoda-style silence as campers and sta waited to hear how the day would work. While there were no visiting alumni or camps, we had a pretty full day of competition on our own!

The Junior Hoops team played the CIT’s. It was close for a while before the CIT’s pulled away. Ben Beader, Evan Stern, and David Satlo hit several 3-pointers and Lucas Newton was an all-star!

After that game, the Senior Soccer team played the sta . Sta won 5-0. Matthew Brayer, DJ Vetstein, Jason Karas, Uri Musheyev led the way for Team Avoda.

Then, Senior hoops beat the sta ! Zack Hyman and Ron Edry scored 3-pointers and controlled the sta . The sta cut it to a 6 point lead, but ran out of time as the campers won.

AVODA TOURNEY 74 SPECIAL ACTIVITIES

BUBBA DAY

One day a year, Avoda takes their time to honor the memory of Adam “Bubba” Miller, a former assistant director, program director, color war general, and Avoda legend. The day started with some re ecting on his legacy from the older campers and sta during services. After that, Gabe Kurland won a hot dog eating contest and the whole camp enjoyed personal pizzas. In the afternoon campers enjoyed cooking with Jill, a general swim at the waterfront, and had fun on some in atables on the eld. Then the Sarah Blacker Band came and performed some of Bubba’s favorite songs live from the Rec Hall porch, and the camp enjoyed some catering dinner from Chipotle and Chick-Fil-A.

As the rst month began wrapping up, campers were anticipating Desert War more and more each day. Unfortunately, the camp learned that Bunk 14 campers were going to be placed into quarantine due to a potential COVID-19 outbreak in the bunk. As a result, Ken had to explain the procedures that would need to take place to the whole camp at breakfast, and as he was wrapping up Bunk 14 ran into the mess hall screaming the words every camper wanted to hear: “IT’S DESERT WAR!” Campers quickly quieted down to listen to the reading of the teams, with four names left out. They proceeded to pathwalks where Choice Captains Jason Karas and Ben Burdetsky went to the White side while Cole Busny and Matt Friedman went to Blue. After the aides and lieutenants went to their respective sides, the White Stallions galloped to the lodge led by General Nate Achildiyev and the Blue Doom stormed into the rec hall led by General Paul Samberg. Campers and sta alike got ready for the start of Desert War. Within the rst 20 minutes, White sent two rushes that were immediately shut down by Blue’s powerful defense led by Captain Matt Friedman, Gaby Goldberg, and Nathaniel Ilfeld. Blue returned with a counterrush in the last minute of the rst quarter that was locked down by Captain Ben Burdetsky alongside Josh Isaacson and Evan Stern. The second quarter followed with both teams sending rushes and both defenses holding

their ground. The whistle blew to end the rst half with the score tied 0-0 and both teams ready to eat lunch. The second half started with a bang as Sammy Schreiber threw the PGD ag to Captain Jason Karas as he reached out his hand and dragged his toes to complete the incredible catch. White shut down Blue for the rest of the third. Starting the fourth quarter, the Blue Doom knew they had to score a ag to avoid defeat. With 15 minutes left in Desert War, the Doom sent all of their o enders and most of their defenders in a last ditch e ort to score. After a series of jailbreaks by Sam MacGilpin and JD Feldman leading to no ags, Gaby Goldberg distracted most of the White Stallions’ defenders allowing Nathaniel Ilfeld to get a jailbreak. This led to Matthew Brayer scoring the seesaw ag to tie things up. However, with most of the Blue Doom’s defenders in jail, the Stallions’ Marcus Levin was able to sneak by and score the beach ag untouched to secure the White’s victory. Then, Captain Karas sealed the deal with a late eld ag score. The Stallions all ran to the beach and jumped in the lake to celebrate their victorious 2021 Desert War.

To the Tune of: “Murder Incorporated” by Bruce Springsteen

The Avs are gonna win

We left the blue team on the eld

All week long your chances were at zero

Take a look around, blue It ain’t too complicated You’re messing with the White … Avalanche

You call yourself the conquerors

The opposite of heroes Walking down the path Your team looked mighty fragile

You better take a look around, blue Your team is overrated You can’t compete with us… the Avalanche

Everywhere you look now, White … Avalanche

So you got Max as your team’s G How’s that gonna help you win? Blue team on the run just like in Russia 1941 Snow is just too much for them Their conquest is surely done Your team just lost There is nothing left … to do

Avalanche in town, Alexander caught a cold Out on the eld, the blizzard took its toll When dealing with the Avs there is just no place to hide

When your team is on the path, you just want leave and cry We just conquered your team, with a margin oh so wide Getting pummeled you were just frustrated Demolished by the, White Avalanche...

Everywhere you look now, White … Avalanche White … Avalanche

To the Tune of: “Who We Are” by Lifehouse

13 years, a few days longer

I still have no regrets

One by one, brothers fall I wish time took me instead For all we’ve been through I’m just glad it was with you

Looking back to trace our steps, I know I won’t forget

Thirty-one Now we’re two Me and you

Cause we laughed Now we cry So we burn the benches down

To take it back To the start Before the rise and falling apart How could we have come this far Struggling with my thoughts I don’t know how this ends Reading between the lines of what they said and what they meant

I tried to relish the now I guess I gured that part out

Looking to the future knowing That some things never end

Thirty one Now we’re two Me and you

Cause we laughed Now we cry So we burn the benches down To take it back To the start Before the rise and falling apart How could we have come this far

All the things That we have done It all still feels Like pretend The moments we’ve lived Will always exist

Cause we laughed Now we cry So we burn the benches down To take it back To the start Before the rise and falling apart How could we have come this far (Group 1) Cause we laughed (Group 2) Cause we laughed (Group 1) Now we cry (Group 2) Now we cry So we burn the benches down To take it back (Group 1) To the start Group 2) To the Start Before the rise and falling apart How could we have come this far

Crazy how it seems like yesterday As I recall, you were looking out of place Unpacked your clothes and said goodbye No time at all, you were trying not to cry Green fence, rst day You were only in Bunk 1 So many, memories Nearly brought me to my knees

You can cry, all night

Looking for the answers and a way to stay You wanna nd, peace of mind Searching for the answer

Against The Wind: Bob Seger

It seems like yesterday But it was long ago We were just freshman enjoying the nights There in the cabin, call to quarters, playing low and and, the memories that we made all the games we used to play told to cherish it, all summer long Without a problem in the world only a brand new day

And I remember what they said to me How they swore that one day it would end I remember how they warned us oh-every-night Wish I didn’t know now what they meant back then

And through the years making memories on the eld all this time I’ve looked forward, to fourteen year

The years rolled slowly past And I found myself at home Surrounded by strangers turned into my friends I found my self closer and closer to this camp and I I know I’ve found the place That I can truly call home I know the time that I’ve spent can’t be replaced Always worried a-bout what, sum-mer would be like alone

Living miles from home for months at a time Never thinking about how it could end I began to nd myself worrying Worrying if I’d make it back here again

Time goes on and the memories live on as I look around I’m reminded, it’s never gone -Music-

Well those camper days are behind me now I’ve got so much more to think about Don’t really want to grow up Want to stay here, but the day comes when

It’s time to go but Avoda is always home because I’m older now but Avoda, will never go Well I’m older now but Avoda is always home Against the wind - is always home Against the wind - is always home Against the wind - is always home

MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

kids enjoy life: laughing, taking chances, putting themselves “out there,” competing, and focusing on fun and friends. I saw these things at Avoda this summer!

Two years between summers? I thought it would never get here. What would it be like? I was nervous – no eld trips? Can’t play other camps? Would we have enough sta ? Would we have enough campers? Two years between camp – it made us a distant memory for some. But June 2021 arrived and things “opened up” and we marched on. We had a lot of campers enrolled. We had sta ready to work and keep the Avoda Flame strong. One thing that struck me right o that bat was how awesome camp is. How awesome Camp Avoda is (obviously!). And how great it is for kids to be kids! We struck a balance between safe and overly cautious. I love seeing

Camp Avoda is still as special as ever. We have a great varied program with fun traditions – and I was reminded of all the fun things we do. With camp being di erent, it still felt pretty special. Whether it’s the Avoda updates at lunch – Joke of the Day, Impractical Jokers, Diabetes Update, or a heat wave that forces us to rent water slides, an outside show that comes in, or the ice cream truck visiting camp -we keep everyone on their toes and each day at Avoda is a fun and special experience.

I am proud of who we are, the program we o er, and what we teach campers and sta . Some Shout-Outs to people at camp who make this place tick!

Sta – you were the fearless leaders of the summer.

You signed up not quite knowing what the summer would look like or if you

could even leave! Thank you for trusting us. Thank you for your commitment to Avoda on a year we needed you. And thank you for making such a safe and fun experience for our boys. Max and Jay – thanks for taking on leadership roles and setting the tone for our sta !

CIT’s: Some of the hardest working guys I know. Starting with the expedition in NH, you greeted each challenge with a positive attitude. Even though most people here might not recognize the job you do, believe me, I do – and others appreciate it too. The Administration Team –some of the nest people I know. Some of the hardest workers I know. Dedicated? Of course. Ready to put in a 16 hour day? Yes! And I am talking about over 50 of those days in a row. So thank you Ronni, Leon, and Gary for everything you do. A great team e ort, all the time. I am lucky to work with you all! Chris – thank you for jumping in wherever we need you: wood shop, xes, equipment, schedules, you name it.

100

Our Health Team is second to none. On a year when there is a global pandemic, our nurses Anne, Roberta and Courtney were calm, cool and collected. Not to mention busy! Extra everything: testing, paperwork, risks, and work – thank you for not missing a beat and providing such great care for camp. And Jose? Always takes care of business –no matter what the task or how inconvenient it is. Thank you! Then we eat three square meals a day and we have two snack times per day and we change meal times about eight times a day. And you know what? The kitchen sta smiles and says OK each time. Scott: let’s keep our streak going! Mo – an amazing member of the team; it feels like you have been here for years. Eliel, Rolando, Miguel Angel, Fernando, Daniel, Juan, Isaac, and Sebastian –thank you for all your hard work and smiles. Daniel –glad you got involved with the program and games. Liza – great to have you back! Abe – thanks for hitting your quotas: I was never worried. Derek:

thanks for building so much excitement around the woodshop. I loved the Woodshop Camper of the Day!

Reese – thanks for helping us out this summer – Avoda is a great place but can be hard to break into as a sta member. You seemed to do it pretty well. Sharon – thanks for cranking out the yearbook again!

Every day I work with two wonderful individuals who help run the o ce: Gabbi and Lyn. Thank you for your excellent attitudes, ability to multitask, help with mail, phone calls, packages, tax forms, invoices, creative projects, packages, er rands, and everything in between.

And to my main partner in life Jill: you are the best. You sacri ce a lot during the summer for me to do this crazy job. Then you help when you are here! From cooking to unpacking to making beds to doctor runs to whatever we need, you are an extra administrator when you are here. Love you!

Overall, I tend to thank people a lot – maybe too much. It’s because I realize just how hard everyone works, just how important everyone’s roles are, and how every little and big thing makes an impact on making The Avoda Experience so special and successful. So Thank You All!

I can’t wait two more years – here’s to 2022!

“Here Comes the Sun”….The songs of summer… this one is by The Beatles and there is a reason why it is a classic! Written by George Harrison and recorded during the summer of 1969, this feels contemporary and timely. Sunny days this summer? Priceless. Extra years since we’ve been here? Yup. Smiles returning to faces? Oh yeah…

Here comes the sun do, do, do Here comes the sun

And I say it’s all right

Little darling, it’s been a long cold lonely winter Little darling, it seems like years since it’s been here

Here comes the sun do, do, do Here comes the sun

And I say it’s all right

Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces Little darling, it feels like years since it’s been here

The songs of an Avoda summer? Basketballs bouncing on pavement, Birds chirping in the nest outside the o ce. Mess Hall chants. Banging….anything! Hands clapping rhythmically. Boat motors whirring. Whistles blowing. Applause. Boys laughing. Water splashing. Rain pattering on the roof. Fireworks over the lake. Chipwich, chipwich, chipwich! Na na na naaaa. Good game, good game, good game. Wind blowing in the trees. He’s out! Piano music. Saws buzzing. PA chatter. Doors slamming. Geese honking. Fans whistling. Refs calling. And my favorite sound? The sound of laughter and crying as we say goodbye to another amazing summer at “Dear Old A-V-O-D-A”

MESSAGE FROM THE ASSISTANT

“Focus on today and you’ll nd a way Happiness is how Rooted in the now ‘Cause, everything’s right So just hold tight”

I’m fairly con dent that all of us had to do our fair share of “holding tight” for the past 18 months or so. Family, friends, creative outlets, music, new hobbies all helped us navigate through this new world. Every aspect of our lives were sent spiraling in a new direction and elements of our existence that we felt comfortable with and helped us were unceremoniously ripped away.

One of the silver linings throughout has been an increased level of gratitude. I recognized this in myself and certainly observed it in others. Simple aspects that we may have taken for granted sudden-

GARY RABINOWITZ

ly burst with splendid hues. We felt deeper connection to little things and were able to reconnect with people in a new way. In late June, as I drove from RI to Middleboro, I felt an overwhelming sense of joy. The drive was like no other that I’d taken over my previous years of being back at 23 Gibbs Rd. This wondrous place that has ingrained itself so deeply in our conscience was taken away for a year. There were moments it was hard to imagine “normalcy” ever returning. As I exited o 495 and drove past DQ and Hannaford and turned on to Tispaquin Street, I noticed I was getting choked up. The return of a home away from home, an extended family and the location that has impacted generations of Avodians in an overwhelmingly positive fashion had returned. I turned the music up a little louder, took a deep breath and held my arm

out the open window. Smiles, laughter, hugs, support, positive feedback and love were aplenty and I was ready to soak it in. As with anything or any place, it’s always about the people. Avodians knew how to “climb that hill and stay on their feet” and the reward was being back. Our campers, returning and new were quick to get into the routine of camp and allow us all to smile with them as their bliss was contagious. Our CIT’s and Sta are second to none. They knew this year was going to be di erent and they were able to throw themselves into camp and went above and beyond to help insure a fantastic summer for our campers. Their adaptability and enthusiasm was unmistakable and speaks volumes to their character. Then there is Ken, Ronni, and Leon. There aren’t enough words in the English language that could possibly convey the awe-in-

spiring e orts that they put forth. They are the glue that keeps Avoda above all else. The planning and execution of this summer was unlike any other and was lled with logistical landmines at every turn. They were able to maneuver through these hurdles as well as anyone on earth.

Thanks for letting me be a small part in what keeps Avoda as the only place that does what it does.

We all waited two years for this summer at Avoda, and it de nitely lived up to the hype. This year was so special, along with every other summer, yet this proved to be the best. I was only around for half the summer, and it ew by, but every day was lled with memorable experiences. From coaching the tennis team with two of my best friends to watching the camper’s competitive side come out during evening agrush, there was never a dull moment... and that is saying a lot with all the rainy days we had.

I’d like to give a special thanks to everyone on the White Stallions. Campers, y’all absolutely killed it. Sta , it was awesome to have the opportunity to grow closer to each one of you and experience the great work we put in behind the scenes.

Sawyer and Goodgame - You guys were amazing co-counselors. Loved being able to teach the kids how Avoda works with y’all!

Pelj and Jacoby - Thank you guys for helping me build the best tennis team Avoda has ever seen.

And to all of 2k1714... let’s keep these numbers strong and try to get us all back next year!

To my fellow Avodians, I am extremely privileged to be back yet another summer with my brothers. We have all overcome numerous obstacles to have a safe summer at camp, and I am grateful for the parents, campers, and sta members that made this possible. I think it made all of us happy to see the same traditions and routines that make this place so special. One particular moment stood out to me, when on Opening Day my campers Je rey and Noah clinked their soda cans and said, “cheers” to an amazing summer. To see kids who have been subjected to social isolation so excited to nally come together was very touching, and I think it illustrates the magnitude to which a return to normalcy at Camp Avoda was needed. I am glad to be home.

• To my Bunk 1ers: Being in Bunk 1 for the second year in a row was something I de nitely wasn’t expecting. However, I feel like I formed strong connections with all of you. To Mitchell and Mush - you two are the future leaders of this camp. I have had the privilege of being your counselor for the past two years. We have de nitely had our ups and downs but I think you have both matured and grown with me.

• To Bunk 6B: When I moved into your cabin I was thrilled. You are a very fun and responsible 14 - for the most part. Although I was oftentimes tough on you guys, I hope you all know that I did everything with the sole purpose of bringing you guys closer together. You have the potential to be an amazing 14 and you made my camp experience a positive one.

• To Sawyer and Stelman: You guys de nitely put up with a lot but you embraced the challenge. Stelly, it was amazing having you as my co counselor. Sawyer, I will see you at the steal cup.

• To Eli: Thank you for being the most accommodating counselor I have worked with. We set the tone and created an amazing atmosphere for our bunk. I’ll miss snooping with you.

• To Jacoby and Caden: You guys are such clowns and we will absolutely keep in touch.

• To Nate Zalvan: You’re my son

• To Logan Layish: You still deserve my shirt

• Lastly, to the 2k1714: I am so happy to have 13 of the original 19 back four years later. After a two-year hiatus it was amazing to see you guys grow in your own respective ways. I hope to see all of you in December. We truly are the resilient 14.

Wow. Finally nished my rst year on sta . After being somewhat hesitant of how sta would compare to my years as a camper, I can easily say that it was incredible. Shoutout to all of sta for the good times. 1814: Best 14 in Avoda history. Undisputed. We run sta and will continue to for years to come. I wouldn’t trade my time with you guys for the world. First year on sta . Wow, it’s ying by. It’s been a great summer so far. Being on sta compares to nothing else in the world. What a great group of guys to experience sta with for the rst time. Always an amazing time here on the shores of Tispaquin. Now for some shoutouts. 2k1814 – 15 strong. That’s a lot of JCs. Never a dull moment with you guys. Been going at it since 2011 and haven’t stopped since. Some of my best friends in the world. We will be running the show soon. Let’s keep going at it and keep coming back because this place is like no other place in the world. Bunk 2: Loved being your guys counselor. You guys are a great group of kids who will one day form a really strong Bunk 14. Wish I could’ve stayed with you guys all summer :( I still remember my bunk 2 counselors (shoutout Mikolos and Sam Watman) so I really hope I was able to make that same impact on you guys that Mikolos and Sam made on me. Bunk 1: Really excited to get started and get to know you guys. You guys seem like a hilarious group of kids all looking to have a good time, which is exactly what Avoda needs. Blue Doom: Really cool experience being a lieutenant for the rst time. We worked so well together in all of our meetings leading up. Incredible group of guys who all shared the same goal. Thank you, Paul, Ethan, and Nate for the opportunity to run it with you guys. I still think we had the BETTER TEAM. That catch WASN’T LEGIT!! Sawyer: My brother for life, and my new CO!!! Let’s teach these bunk 1ers how to be Avodians. You are the man, you always have my back and are always a guy I can turn to. I really appreciate everything you do. Let’s have an unforgettable time the rest of the summer. Nate and Joey: You guys were sick co’s. We worked super well together. Nate: It was sick to see you in the holy land. You are the boy. It was a good time running the Doom O with you. Good luck in DC next year. Joey: We have been in the same 14 for ten years but I never really got to know you until this year. You are a lot of fun to talk to. Enjoy senior year of high school haha and lets stay in touch. Adin: It was great having you back rst month, every moment with you is always a good time even if you are a schmuck sometimes. I hope that you are having a good second half of your summer, and we will be thinking about you all of second month. Love you brotha, stay strong. Ken, Ronni, and Leon: Thank you guys for holding this place that means so much to us together. Being on sta for the rst time made me realize that running Avoda is incredibly hard, there are so many moving pieces and small things that need to be done, and you guys do ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING behind the scenes. Another year, another summer spent at Camp Avoda.

This summer was my eleventh and unsurprisingly the best one yet. I was fortunate enough to be placed in Bunk 2 with some amazing campers, 11 people from my 14 came back for the summer and had an amazing schedule. All of that is not the reason for this summer being the best one yet. It was being able to see my younger brother grow, learn and mature both athletically and mentally. This time with him was also extra special for me because i’m headed o to college after camp so getting to spend these last few weeks before college with him has been a great experience.

Shoutout 2K1714, you guys are the best. Max, we’ve got through 11 years here. Let’s make it 12.

After almost two years away, arriving here on the rst day of pre-camp was like a dream come true. A summer at Avoda is truly the best return to normalcy one could hope for after the uneasiness of the last year and a half. While certainly not a normal summer I’m so glad we managed to keep camp as amazing as it always has been. Getting to view camp from the perspective of a sta member has been wonderful and I’m so glad I have the opportunity to give back to this place I love so much. Bunk 2- You guys weren’t always the easiest group of guys to handle but, from Jacob and Georgy’s shenanigans to Spencer’s jokes, and so much more, you guys never failed to keep the summer exciting. I look forward to seeing what the future holds for you as Avodians, Good luck! Adam- Although we’ve been in the same 14 for many years at this point, I’m really glad I got to spend more time with you and get to know you better as a person. Handling the kids was so much more fun with you around. Nate- Thanks for being a great co, and my transition to sta was certainly much easier with you around. Your words of advice were always helpful. 1814- It was great to see so many of us back this year and hanging out with you guys has de nitely been the highlight of my summer. I know we’ll have a solid group coming back for future summers and I look forward to seeing us on senior sta . I know camp has a bright future.

I try not to dwell on how few of them there really are—only 16 as I write this pro le. I would give anything to be able to go back and relieve all my camp memories. From dance parties in Bunk 2, to the magazines in Bunk 8, to sneaking away in Bunk 14, there’s some things that I can’t imagine happening outside of camp. I have no regrets from this place. The only thing I could possibly wish for is more time, but there comes a point where you have to move on. Goodbyes are di cult, but Avoda is more than just a campground o the shores of Tispaquin—it’s a collection of people, my brothers for life. I don’t have to say goodbye to my brothers, though, because I know we will always reconnect. Those are the types of bonds made at Avoda, and they are hard to come by anywhere else. 2k17 - It was amazing to have even more of us on sta this year than the last. You guys are what keep me coming back year after year. It’s always a good time when we’re together, and though I may not be back next year, I’ll know we’ll run it back soon enough. Sporta op - I still cannot believe that we got Jacoby back this year. Though the chat and parties may die down during the summer, being together with you boys made this summer great. Winn, Marks, Singer, GG - We might have been the most stacked cabin in camp. Thanks to all of you guys for making the summer easy. Winn you are an absolute beast and do everything this camp needs. Marks it’s a shame we were only cos one month, the kids and I missed you. Singer it was great to get to know you more. GG thanks for sleeping next to me rst month. Sta - It was a great year, we didn’t lose. JCs I want my OTC. Avodian - Scrib it was great hanging with you and it sucks the way things ended. Thanks for the good times and the work you put in, hope it comes out all right. 14ers, it was a pleasure to have all you, now get to work. Eli - One down, onto the big one. Bunk 3 - You were honestly a great group of kids, and it was great to be your counselor. You guys could use a bit of work in bunk cleanup, but thanks for a fun summer.

Big summer to be back at dear old AVODA. After one year o from camp after a decade of coming here camp has never felt better.

• 2k17- We came back strong this summer, lets take over this place next year why don’t we.

• Bunk 3- You guys are a crazy group of kids, don’t loose that. Just maybe listen a little bit more and you’ll be some of the best kids to roll through this place.

• Peljo- Keep killing it. You work harder than anybody at this camp and you deserve all the praise in the world for it. It’s been a great summer having you across the hall and all the shenanigans that ensued. Keep that chin up kid.

• Singer- I’m better than you at volleyball. But in all honesty, you’ve been a great Co this summer in and out of the bunk.

As my 11th year on the shores of Tispaquin winds down, the reality of how blissful yet bittersweet camp is setting on me. What seemed to be an eternity ahead a ubiquitous opportunities to see my best friends, interact with my campers, and partake in the Avoda community, has nimbled down to merely a few regular days, and the war. I started my career at Avoda as a camper in bunk 1, with Counselor Eric Edelman and Benny. From the very beginning, their in uence on meaning my way through camp. Last summer without camp felt like there was a hole in my life, apart of me that was missing. I am so glad that I was able to be apart of sta this year and able to help contribute to the Avoda memories and tradtions Baked Ru es-To my league team, we had a great summer, I am extremely proud of all you for the e ort you put in this summer win or lose.

Avoda Daze- Always great memories, I had a great time doing it with Nate, Caden and all the Alumni. I recommend everyone listens to our episodes on spotify or apple podcast and follows us on insta @ Avoda_daze

Nate- I love you like a brother, so happy you ended up coming this summer, wouldn’t have been the same without you Caden- I love you too Caden, so many memories in the blue chopper with rick and morty, can’t wait to run waterfront with you next year Goodgame- I know I’m you #1

Carlos- thanks for being an awesome co. I hope you learned a thing or 2. Have a great year at OSU!

Theo- Fridayer, we had fun. You better come back next year and help run the show.

It’s hard to believe that after waiting two years (well technically 10), my rst year on sta is coming to an end. It was one of, if not the strangest but best summers I have spent at Avoda. It was cool seeing how camp is as a sta member but I still don’t believe I got the whole experience due to Covid restrictions. With that being said I think the summer could not have gone better. I could not have asked for a better bunk, Co-Counselor, sta , and group of brothers in my 14 to spend the summer with.

Shoutouts:

- Max (Kleinbro): I still can’t believe they gave me one of the few people I requested to be co’s with. You were de nitely the ideal co to show me the ropes, not only as a counselor, but soon to be as a fellow buckeye. It went by too fast but thanks for a great summer, I’m hype to see you at OSU.

- Bunk 5A: What a squad. I wish you all stayed full. Out of all the one-monthers, Alan is the only nonrotten one for at least coming back. I will admit that you guys were a crazy group of kids and drove me crazy most of the time but I had a really great summer with you boys. DW James, C Toss, and many other memories got me through this summer and I wanted to thank you all for making my rst year as a counselor a great one.

- 2k1814: There’s a lot I could say about this group but I won’t be able to cover even just the last week. Adin, you’re my boy and I love you. Asher, same cabin next year. The rest of you better be back.

- 2k16/rest of sta : Come back next summer, you’re needed.

- Evan Stern: David hicks wants to know how “stern” you are,

It was amazing being back this summer, even if it was only for second session it was certainly worth making an appearance for my 10th summer at Avoda. Missing the rst month made me realize how slow the summer moves away from camp. At this point I have only been a here a little over a week and that time has ow by. I immediately got back into the swing of camp and feel like I’ve been here the whole summer.

2k1714: It has and always will be a privilege serving with you all. Seeing so many people in our 14 come back this year really inspired me to come back to camp. I missed being at camp with you guys and I’m happy I’m back. Didn’t have the chance to see you all often in the o season so it’s nice being able to pick right back up at camp.

Bunk 5B: You guys are a great group. We started o strong second session as a new bunk in camp and I think you all have shown your maturity compared to other bunks. You guys and Asher made my job much easier and fun.

8 summers in the books... It was great being here second month and to get an opportunity to nally make it on sta this year. It was unfortunate I wasn’t able to be here all summer but in the time I’ve been here it’s been nothing short of amazing. I Couldn’t have asked for a better bunk and situation to be put in and I’m sure the rest of the summer will be nothing short of amazing.

Bunk 5b - you guys are a great bunk and give us almost no problems. Keep coming back to Avoda you guys have a great path ahead of you

Volo - you’ve been a chill and easy co all summer, it’s been a pleasure

2K18 - it’s been great to be on sta with all my boys this summer, we waited so long for this. Amazing that so many of you guys are back and running up sta this summer, love each and every one of you and we have many great times ahead of us to come.

After missing both my CIT year and JC year, being able to come back and be a counselor this year was absolutely amazing. This was technically my rst time spending the entire summer at Avoda, and it was de nitely my favorite summer by a mile. Being away from this camp for so long and nally being able to come back made the wait worth it. Being able to reconnect with my 14 and other sta members was one of the de ning things that made this summer as amazing as it was. But just like every summer at Avoda, this one ew by just as fast as all the rest. Shoutouts: 2K1714- It was absolutely amazing to have the ability to spend another summer with you boys. The fact that we had so many of us come back this year proves how strong we are as a 14 and really shows why our 14’s motto was resiliance. Bunk 6A- You guys are some of the best kids this camp has ever seen. In terms of athletics, personality, and leadership, you guys have shown me that you have what it takes to be one of the best 14s to come through this camp. Don’t get me wrong, you all still have some maturing to do, but I believe that by the time you are all in bunk 14 you will all be outstanding leaders for this camp. Goodgame Eli and Scrib- It was an absolute blast sharing the cabin with you three. We were able to make our amazing age group and help them get as close together as possible, which is the most important thing counselors can do. Max Kleinmann- It was great to be able to spend another summer with you. Your car de nitely came up clutch a lot this year. Volo- I was really bummed out when I heard you weren’t coming back for the rst month, but when you told me would be back for the second month I was so hype. You de nitely have made a di erence in sta and your presence was most de nitely needed. Stelly- Even though you were only here for the rst month, I am still very grateful you were able to come back and be with the boys this year. JCs- I feel as though I got closer with each and every one of you this year. It was really fun hanging out with you guys this summer and I know you guys will continue to be an absolute force on sta for years to come. Avodian- Paul, Harry, Plotty, Jason, Brett, Ryan, and our custodian Shazam, I always loved being in the room with you boys every third period. During the rst month, I would spend my o period grinding with you boys, and it was awesome when it was made o cial that I was on sta . Jason, run a lap. Max- You being a 14er this year was one of the main reasons I came back to camp. It was awesome to watch you grow from a bunk 1er to a 14er. I can tell that this camp has shaped you for the better. Ryan- You have come such a long way since your rst year here. Keep on continuing to be a leader in your 14 and always remember that speech I gave you on Bubba day. 6th period tennis- get to the tennis

One more? #staymotivated Bunk 6A- I have never ever had or met a group of kids quite like you guys. Every single one of you killed it this year, and Im so happy to be able to be called your counselor. I hope every single one of come back to be apart of what will be one of the most athletic 14s ever. Leon- It’s very clear this camp needs you, Roy. You are such an in uential person not only to sta but to every single camper as well. You may not have been at Avoda as a camper, but you put more love, time, and care into this camp then you do yourself. Based o of that you bleed blue, and white more than anybody else, and you are the perfect example of a true avodian. The Karas’- Jason, even when I was camper you were always my go to little homie to hangout with. It seems only right that now you are a captain. if you are on my team then let’s catch another fat W, but if you are not then all the luck in the world to ya. Danny, you are such a lil goon, please please please keep that energy all the way through 14. You are such a good athlete and I know you’ll be wayyyy better then Jason, keep playing hard! After 2020, a summer with no camp, it was amazing to be able to return to Avoda. With a year o , I now fully appreciate how special a place this is. While the activities at camp are great, it’s the friendships that make camp so special. With my time at Avoda winding down, that is what I am going to miss the most. Being able to see and work with friends all day is not something that any other job can o er.

It feels like just yesterday I arrived for the rst day of pre camp. After two years o I had no clue what to expect from my rst year on sta . The days have own by and I know that I can’t take any moment for granted as my time at this place is limited. As a member of sta I know how much we would give to play in just one more league game let alone another color or desert war, so if you are still playing in these events I ask you to not take them for granted because one day these opportunities to play will be no longer.

2k18: It was amazing to spend another summer with every single one of you. We all know 18 ran the liz this year and I can’t wait for it to happen again next year, let’s keep the numbers up.

Ben, Owen, and Shrieber: Thank you guys for being such great cos, it was amazing to have all my cos be a part of my 14 and it made this summer really special.

BIRTHDAY BRIGADE SENIOR SOCCER ”CONSULTANT”

PART - TIME OWNER OF THE BLUE BOAT

What a summer it’s been. When everybody says these summers y by they’re not lying. It’s crazy to think about arriving here for my rst day six years ago as a scrawny, buck-toothed kid, compared to the counselor and Avodian I have grown into today. This place has become my favorite place in the world and I can’t imagine my life without it. Being back at camp after so long has further proved what an amazing place Avoda really is. 2K1814: The best, most illustrious 14 in camp, I love all of you guys. Thanks for making my short time here the best ve summers ever. My boys for life. Bunk 9: While at some points you haven’t made my life easy, I can’t thank you guys enough for making this summer so much fun. Even when you guys don’t go to bed or make me pull you out of bed in the morning, you all have cemented yourself in a special place in my camp life. Owen: I couldn’t ask for a better co counselor this summer. It’s been an awesome time being able to take on our rst year of sta together. I’m getting the single next time. Arty: Even though our time as co counselors was abbreviated, it was an absolute blast. Hanging with you was always a good time and always included many laughs. Practice some shoulders when you have time. Simon: My guy since my rst day at camp and mybest friend here. I can always count on you to chill with and make camp a better experience as a whole. We’ve had some hilarious moments over the years and made some unforgettable memories together. I can’t wait to see everything you do at camp and in the real world. Adin: You’ve been a constant source of entertainment these past few summers and I think everyone remembers several of your iconic moments. You’re one of the strongest people I know and it was amazing to see you and be in the same cabin with you at camp this year. Sammy: I’m sorry for not forcing you to go here earlier, but hope you’ve enjoyed your time here. It’s been awesome seeing you become the Avodian you are so quickly. The Schreiber Desert War MVP legacy lives on… Adam: I wouldn’t be here without you telling me about it six years ago. I really can’t thank you enough because this is the best place on earth. Thanks for showing me the ropes and rocking with me throughout the years. And thanks for leading the Business and Seals… legendary. Alex: My birthday brigade partner for life. Your unlimited bits make some of the funniest moments of the summer. Never get ahead of yourself because of your “commander” shirt. It’s not that much cooler than the 1st LT shirt. Grilled cheese. Sawyer: The growth I’ve seen out of you from CIT year to this year is truly amazing. You’re so spirited in everything you do and it’s such a fun time to be around. Never change.

My ninth summer was my rst on sta . I could not have asked for a better group to be with. I can’t wait to keep coming back to explore further what sta has to o er. Going through this place as a camper is a rare experience and from just one year on sta , I can tell this experience will be just as great. Arty and Schreiber: We held it down in this year. Having two other JCs as cos was awesome. We gured out our rst year as counselors together and I thought we did pretty well. Adin, Alex and Simon and: Loved having you guys across from us. Six JCs running a cabin was some of the most fun I’ve had at this place. You guys were awesome to work with this whole summer.

Bunk 9: Thank you guys for being fun to be with. You guys we’re very easy going and it was great having you as campers. I look forward to seeing what you guys do here in years to come. Avalanche: Can’t wait to start the week with you guys. We’ve been putting in work and I can’t wait for it to pay o . Jobs not close to nished. #RollAvs 2k16: Thank you for showing me the ropes of sta . I got a lot closer with you guys this summer and I’m really glad you guys came back. Hope all of you come back next year but if not, I wish you all the best. Alex, Eli and Max: Thanks for playing the lottery with me. Love you boys.

2k18: Last but certainly not least, my brothers. I love all you boys to death. Every summer I spend with you guys just gets better and better. Next year we’re going to run this place and it’s going to be ridiculous. Hope we can have everyone back because it wouldn’t feel the same with anyone gone.

Adin: I love you man. Hope you’re doing well. Was great that you could come for those weeks, even if it had to end too soon. Here’s to next year :)

Schreiber: You’re sitting across from me as I write this. Showing me pictures of Gabe eating sh let. We’re about to go house some pop tarts. You’re my best friend here, and I’m so glad we were in a cabin together. Have fun at Maryland - hope we see each other this o season. Let’s keep the undefeated streak alive.

Owen: It’s too bad that we ended up on opposite sides for C dubs this year, but oh well. Loved having you on the other side - wouldn’t have laughed nearly as much this summer if you weren’t in Bunk 9.

Artie: I like ya cut g. Late nights in the kitchen went hard this year. It wouldn’t have been summer without you.

It feels weird to write one of these. I always used to look at the sta pro les in the back of the Avodian when I was younger and had already ipped through all of the other pages a couple times. It seemed so impossibly far away then. The idea of being a counselor didn’t seem real to my nine year old self. And now I’m on the other side of the paper.

Last summer was the worst I’ve had in ten years. And not because it was particularly bad. It’s because when camp didn’t open, a part of me went missing. Nothing compares to this place. It’s made me who I am, and I’m forever thankful for that.

I’m not sure if I’ll be back next year, which is the rst time I’ve ever thought that. But the last few weeks have been the strongest possible argument for why I should stay. This place catches on to you, and you never want it to let go. Who knows what the future holds, but whatever happens, this place will always be my home.

Alex: It was awesome being co-counselors with you. For people with no experience, I think we did a good job. Hope your pancreas nally heals itself in the o season.

Paul: Good luck this o season. I loved hanging out with you this year. Hope to see you in D.C. sometime soon.

2K1814: You guys are why I’ll always want to come back. The 14 of us were so close this year. I love all of you, and I don’t want our ride to end.

Blue Conquerors: Big week coming up. I believe in us, but there’s a lot of work to do. Let’s get this dub.

Bunk 10: We had some tough times rst month, but second month y’all were great. You made me laugh, kept me entertained, and taught me a lot. Hope to see you all next year.

Bunk 9: You guys were hilarious. Have a great o season.

Avoda: You were perfect as always. Never change. I love you.

It’s so crazy that this summer is already over. I had no idea what to expect coming in considering new regulations with covid and being a rst year counselor but I am extremely happy with how my JC year went. I was very fortunate to have amazing co-counselors and an awesome bunk that made this summer so great. I have nished the last 4 summers thinking the same way, “there’s no way next summer can top this one.” I’ve been wrong every time. Keep coming back as long as you can because there is no place like Avoda.

Bunk 10: You guys were awesome this summer! Though we had our ups and our downs, it was really great building relationships and getting to know all of you. I hope all of you had a fun summer and continue coming back to camp. As long as you keep the towels o of the ground I know that you will all become great Avodians and I look forward to seeing what each of you accomplish. Bunk 9: It was great hanging out with you all and getting to know you. The brawl stars and F1 grind was always essential. Haps will make it big someday. 2k18: Another great summer for the best 14 in camp. We came back really strong this summer with 13 people and all did great as JC’s. I really hope we can keep these numbers for next summer because I know it’s only going to get better. For those who aren’t returning next summer, I’m really going to miss you and hope you come visit as much as possible. Here’s to another summer at Camp Avoda. White Stallions: What an amazing team. Jason and Plotty you guys absolutely killed it. Both of you

BUNK 10

were unstoppable and far exceeded my expectations. I’m so grateful to have been on a team with such an awesome sta too. I thought all of us got along super well and always had a good time. Also the stallions were de nitely the perfect name, especially since I had the biggest stallions on the team. I couldn’t have asked for a better team to be a part of. Simon and Adin: We made it through the summer. There were de nitely some bumps in the road but the three of us survived. As soon as I got to camp and found out you were my co-counselors I knew the summer would be such a good time. Hopefully we can continue giving our kids donuts and candy and keep the butter knives out of the bunk. Shreiber: We clearly hold the record for killing the most in and out nights. It was such an awesome summer getting closer with you especially since we were in the same cabin. Avoda has never seen such a strong birthday brigade. Never go to pizza pirate past 8. Grilled cheese. Owen: I can’t believe we got in the same cabin this year. This was such an amazing summer and it was so much better since we were in the same cabin. From hitting the lottery to just hanging out in the bunk, the summer wouldn’t have been the same without you. Gotta always keep the cameras on. Shifman Family: Had to shout out the best family in camp: Executive director, Avoda mom, and the greatest brothers in camp.

And just like that I have found myself writing another sta pro le as the summer starts winding down. I can’t believe after 11 years at Avoda this could be the last pro le I ever write. It feels like yesterday I got to pre camp excited to run bunk 12 with my boys and now color war is right around the corner. I love this place more than anything and truly believe coming to Avoda and becoming an avodian was the best decision I could have ever made. There’s something special about this place, something special that you can’t explain to friends at home or anyone outside of Avoda. Something special that makes an entire camp cry at songfest and count down the days until we can play that opening agrush again next summer. I have met some of my best friends here and will cherish everything this place has ever given to me forever. To all the campers reading this, please come back, I promise you it’s worth it and that this is truly the greatest place on earth. Now for some shout-outs

Bunk 12- Boys, when I found out I was going to be a 12 counselor with you guys and my 14 I was hype. You guys know I’ve wanted to be your counselor since I was your C.I.T in bunk 5, and we nally were able to make it happen. You guys are all great avodians that can keep the traditions going for years to come. This summer was “the re” and all I can say is please keep coming back for sta . Benny, I know you’re gonna be a great general one day so please keep coming back and getting all your boys to as well. Ethan- what up co! Ethan, living next to you was honestly some of the best times of my life as we were able to run a sick bunk this summer while also having fun ourselves. I loved being able to be in the same bunk with you as we’ve grown much closer in the past year and I hope that continues. You’re my boy from Lifetime to Gibbs and hope we only get closer moving forward even if we’re not back. Danny- Blumer, you’ve been my day 1 boy since I’ve started camp and have always been one of my best friends at this place since day 1. To be able to win desert war together was one of the most surreal moments I’ve experienced at camp as the Voodoo is now avenged. Let’s bring this winning momentum into c dubbs and nish strong. PaulTo be able to be on sta with you for another year was a great experience and great time. From the orchid to our adventures in Boston, summer was a blast and I wish you well in your last year of school. Curtis- I can’t believe the summer ended for you like that. We’ve been boys and in the same bunk since bunk 4 and spending a summer without you was a lot to process. I hope you’re staying well and just know you were missed this summer. We’ll be chillin again soon White stallions- What up stals! Desert was probably my favorite day ever at Avoda. The hours and hours of prep paid o as jumping in the lake as a winning general was an experience I’ll never forget. Jason and plottyyou guys were great captains and did a great job leading the stallions to the lake. Blue Conquerors- Color war is right around the corner and I love the strategizing we’ve done so far. Thank you Max for taking me as your 1 and I’m sure we’ll be in the lake by the end of the week. 2k17-, You guys were great on sta this year and gotta say our 14s became much closer this summer. You guys could run it next summer so all you should come back. 2k18- Good job Jcs. You guys are the future of sta and have a ton of great characters so keep coming back and make sure you keep the traditions of avoda alive because you guys de nitely can. Ryan J- lil bro, you’ve been great again for another summer and are an overall great avodian. You have the chance to have a good run at this place taking teams and what not so please keep coming back as I promise you it’s worth it. I need to see my little brother be a winning g one day like me. Jordan- My guy, you’re a great kid and a great avodian. Ever since 5a you’ve been one of my favorite campers here and I hope you continue to come back and be a great avodian. Let’s get this dub in fantasy this time

going to miss the late night talks and arguments we had but this summer was one of the best. I hope we can come back next year for one more ride and run this place. I’m sorry but you don’t have any stallions.

Paul: Another year with one of my best friends here. Since Bunk 1 ‘09, we have made this place our home and I’m sad it’s coming to an end. We’ve been through a lot and being in Desert War and Color War was an unbelievable experience. It was a wild ride but wouldn’t have wanted it any di erently. Let’s get this W in the big dance.

Danny: I’ve known you forever all the way back from Needham. It was so fun being a co with you and trying to contain all these kids. Hopefully we’ll both be back next summer and take these kids again in 14. Don’t think I saw you in the weight room once this year but those tris aren’t bad. See you back at Stan.

Like every Camp Avoda summer, this summer has been ying by. I can con dently say it has been one of the best summers I have had at Camp and the memories I’ve made will last forever. I am truly grateful for the last 13 summers of my life at Camp. I can’t put it into words how much this place means to me and I know I wouldn’t be the same person without it. This place is special and I cannot imagine what summer is like outside of 23 Gibbs.

Bunk 12: Boys what a summer. I was excited to learn I was your counselor coming into the summer and you guys are all great kids. I know we had our ups and downs over the course of the summer but you guys made this summer one of the best for me and I couldn’t have asked for it any di erently. Keep coming back because it only gets better every year. I know you guys will be an incredible 14 next year. Just know, this is why.

Nate: I couldn’t have asked for a better co to live with this summer. Our bunk was actually something else but it was great being with you through it all. I’m

Curtis: Can’t believe your summer ended like that. I know you wouldn’t have missed this summer if you absolutely couldn’t but hope you come back better and stronger.

Alex: Being on sta with you was an amazing experience. Growing up here as campers I always wanted to be on sta with you. I hope you were able to see how important it is to keep coming back for as long as you can and I hope I’ll be able to join you again next year. I know you’re going to kill it at school this year.

2k1814: It was great getting to know all you guys more. Hopefully you are all able to come back for as long as you guys can because you are such a strong age group. Hopefully you can continue the Avoda traditions and keep this place going strong.

Blue Doom: I couldn’t have asked for a better Desert War Team. It was such a great experience being on sta and seeing everything that went into it. We fought to the very end and you guys gave it everything you could. I’m proud to be a part of the Doom.

White Avalanche: I’m feeling really good about this upcoming week. We’re putting in the work and can’t wait for the week to get here. Roll Avs.

I always hate writing these things, it means we’re nearing the end of the camp season. It’s hard to believe that my 10th summer at Avoda is just a couple weeks from being done. Summer 2021 de nitely surpassed my expectations and has been one of my favorites for sure. While I would love to keep coming back to this place forever, for the rst time it’s realistic to think that this may be the last summer I have here, but we’ll just have to see - never say never. It’s sad to think about a summer without Avoda. Shoutouts…

Bunk 12 - It’s truly been a great summer being a counselor in this bunk. We had a lot of great times even when you guys weren’t the best campers and had to be demoted to bunk 11. You guys are true Avodians and I hope that you all come back long after next summer, it’s worth it and you guys are right for sta

2k16 - What a wild ride it’s been. If this is the end, I would say that we’ve done it as good as you can do it. It was great being cos and doing ea all together. Hopefully things work out so that we can all come back next summer. Curtis I’m still in shock by what happened, but I’m excited to see you for the last week of the summer.

Nature Valley Crispy Creamy Peanut Butter Chocolate Wafer Bars - Since the draft, since the protest, everyone’s been praying on our downfall, but we’re bouta go into the playo s as the most dangerous team in league. Even though we’ve been the perceived underdogs so many times so far, we just keep prevailing. Let’s get this ship.

Stallions - What a sta . What a team. The chemistry we had was immaculate. All our hard work came to fruition. Running towards the lake was the best feeling in the world. To all the stallion campers, thank you for trusting in us and giving it your all, you guys made sure the better team ended up swimming.

Conquerors - After having our rst few meetings, I know this team is bouta kill it. We’ve all been on the same page and I’m very con dent in our abilities before and during the week. To whatever campers end up on our team, you are lucky to be a conqueror.

Nate: Congratulations on your desert war win — it was a close one. Hopefully by the time everyone’s reading this, you will be exchanging congratulations for color war. It’s been awesome being in the bunk with you. Whenever I’m looking to have some fun on a long night or night o , I can always count on you to join and help rally the troops, and I am very appreciative of that.

Simon: You always give me good reading recommendations and help keep my brain stimulated during the summer. Also, thanks for always giving me a good laugh.

Coming back to camp after a two-year hiatus, I wasn’t sure everything would feel the same. However, from the day all sta arrived for precamp, the same feeling was there. This summer has been lled with some great memories, and I’m glad I had the opportunity to share them with everyone. I’m not sure what the coming year will look like, but if this summer is ultimately my last, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Ethan: We go way back — all the way to ‘09 — and I think that’s why we work so cohesively. Whether it was desert war, color war, or in the bunk, I always felt we were on the same page, which made decision making much easier. I look forward to carrying on the 2013 White Prophets chemistry for the foreseeable future.

Danny: Always being on di erent sides in the bunk and opposing teams for color war, I feel like we never got too close as campers. This year, though, that de nitely changed. It was great holding down the fort in 12R with you, and I’m glad we’ve been able to become closer because of it.

Owen + Alex: Maybe the funniest duo in camp, and I just think you deserve props for that. Alex, too bad you couldn’t join us in color war, but, Owen, thanks for being a great playwriting partner and teammate.

Sawyer: Before this summer, I don’t think we had many conversations. After taking you and Alter for desert war, though, we de nitely became closer. I know color war didn’t work out, but you have a bright future ahead of you at camp, so just look forward to the coming summers, and you’re going to kill it.

Nate G: I feel like I always had some subconscious beef with you as a camper, but after running it in color war and desert with you, I think it’s safe to say that’s subsided. You were great in both, and I’m sure you’ll raise the bar even more next summer. Maybe I’ll see you in DC next year.

Caden: It’s unfortunate we couldn’t be on any of the same teams, but our time spent on the waterfront makes up for it.

Jay: Thanks for taking me as your one. It’s been a great experience thus far, and I look forward to (hopefully) jumping in the lake when it’s all said and done.

Blue Doom: This was an amazing team. Although it was a tough loss, each one of you played your hearts out and I couldn’t ask for much more.

White Avalanche: As I’m writing this, I don’t even know who will be on this team. But with that, I am also con dent that whatever combination of campers we get, you will all be amazing. I’m excited to get my rst week on color war sta underway with you all.

Bunk 12: You guys were great this summer. I remember when I was a CIT and always joked about getting you guys as counselors. Now that I’ve had you, I would say that was the right call. Keep coming back. This place is worth it.

Bennett: Ever since 2013, you have always shared my camp memories with me. I’m so proud to see you nishing out your time as a camper in bunk 14. I hope you keep coming back on sta like I did, so you can carry on the Samberg legacy.

This has been an amazing 1st year at Camp Avoda. It has been such an incredible experience getting to know you all and hanging out with you guys down by the waterfront. This summer showed me how much of a special place this is and how much traditions play an important role here. It was so cool experiencing all the awesome traditions you all have here like color war, desert war and all the countless others. This has truly been such a memorable summer for me and I hope to enjoy more summers with you all here at Camp Avoda!

HEAD OF ART

Due to my birthday being in February, I will devote this space to my everlasting birthday speech.

This is my 5th year at Avoda and I like it very much….Art sta , 14 alumni, Dennis fam, go bananas, Lou ball, farmers road, the goat , the avodian, men’s & laddies, BWB, the lounge, white prophets, white chiefs, Mazie, pank, pitch club, Towson, Bubba, PGD and everyone else is number one.

To all current and future campers: come back as long as possible. This is hands down the best way for you to spend your summers. Lastly, arts and crafts is the most elite elective and don’t forget it.

From a Pembroke girl to an avodaian I am eternally grateful for my days here at Avoda. Dreams do come true!!

Peace out, Liza

Never thought I’d make it back this summer but I was lucky the dates worked out. It has been unreal to come back and see past campers and good friends live it up at the best place on Earth. You all have grown and matured like crazy. Before camp started, I was able to spend 2 weeks on a RV trip with Jake, Jay, and Max exploring what the other side of the country had to o er. On the trip, I was able to convince Jake to come back to be on pink with me and enjoy our last days of this special place and it has been nothing but fun. Jake - Thanks for coming back and being a head judge with me. Cheers to the week ahead and hopefully I’ll be chillin in Chi-town with you one day. Much love Max - Taught you everything I know so we’ll see how you manage this week, best of luck my guy much love always #rolljags

Jay - Been impressing me on the work you’ve put in thus far. Should make for a good week regardless of the double. Glad you were able to make the 2nd trip. Much love!

Sta - We’ll be chillin this week no doubt Campers - Fast forward 10 years from now, I can promise if you do this camp thing right, your camp friends will be your best friends wherever life takes you. Do whatever you can to come back to this place as long as possible, the rest of life can wait.
