A public-private partnership, High Point Economic Development Corporation (High Point EDC) works to increase community prosperity by recruiting new businesses, retaining existing industry and assisting in revitalization. In 2022, the City of High Point welcomed Forbes Global and Fortune 500 companies, downtown office projects, industry expansion and new local retail. Transformational projects are underway for High Point including new downtown living options, a small-scale manufacturing hub, a shared-use kitchen and the opening of the Home Furnishings Hall of Fame. Looking further ahead, High Point can expect to cheer on the Carolina Core Football Club, an MLS Next Pro team, at Truist Point in 2024. Spanning from west of Winston-Salem to southeast of Fayetteville, the NC Carolina Core encompasses 120+ miles and five mega-sites. Recently, four global companies announced expanding to the Carolina Core: Toyota Battery Manufacturing in Liberty, Boom Overture Superfactory in Greensboro at PTI Airport, as well as Vinfast and Wolfspeed in Chatham County.

A Forbes Global 500 company, purchased and is expanding its U.S. Uptime Center to serve as the global headquarters for Volvo Financial Services at 8003 Piedmont Triad Parkway. Expected to be completed in 2023, the project is a $41 millon investment, retaining 360 jobs.
A Forbes Fortune 500 company, selected High Point North Industrial Center as the home for its new Customer Care Center, which will be the city’s largest industrial building at more than 1 million square feet and the site’s first development. The project will retain 125 jobs in the area, create 20 new jobs and cause over $93 million to be invested.
BUSINESS EXPANSION PROJECTS

relocation to The Bedrock located at 275 N. Elm St. The project brings 38 sales and management positions to downtown High Point with plans to add 21 new sales positions over three years - a projected growth of 15 percent per year. The company’s 6,190 square foot lease includes classroom space on the



Cone Health Allergy and Asthma Center expanded from 100 Westwood Ave. to 400 N. Elm Street, investing $315,000 to upfit its new location. Established in High Point in 1977, by Dr. Jose Bardelas, the Center has been in the core city since 1982 and now includes five locations across the Triad.
OFFICE PROJECTS

Dedicated Senior Medical Center, a division of ChenMed, will invest $1.7 million to upfit 131 Greensboro Road, and create 30 new jobs over two years. The patient model includes monthly appointments for preventive medicine and chronic illness management. This high-touch approach reduces emergency room visits and hospitalizations by at least 35 percent, according to company data.

Metal Works of High Point, a secondgeneration family company manufacturing metal components, weldments and assemblies, expanded by adding a location at 1245 Hickory Chapel Road. The project brings a $2.8 million investment and the creation of 20 manufacturing jobs. The 37,050 square foot property houses additional room for assembly to help meet growing demand across the material handling, furniture, transportation, power generation and appliance industries.

GTCC supports business and industry by helping develop the most valuable asset - people - through the Customized Training Program (CTP), career services, apprenticeships and more.
A “learn and earn” program, GAP connects high school students to paid internships and classes at GTCC. Upon graduation, students receive a high school diploma, an associate degree and a fulltime job in their trained field.

GuilfordWorks offers training services, career fairs, job postings, worker dislocation services and on-the-job training grants to help supply your ideal workforce.

This year, the City of High Point celebrated the opening of the renovated City Lake Park Event Center and built up its management team by appointing Greg Ferguson as deputy city manager and welcoming Damon Dequenne as an assistant city manager.

Developing tomorrow’s leaders today, High Point Young Professionals offers a platform for those between the ages of 21-40 to connect with their peers, engage with civic efforts and lead in the community.

The City of High Point is also exploring the community’s need for a commercial shared-use kitchen to help small businesses grow and scale. Such a facility could help build economic resiliency, strengthen capacity, and create connections.

Congdon Yards provides the community space to work, gather, innovate and celebrate across its campus. Now, it is also home to The Art Gallery (TAG), a non-profit providing visual art exhibits and educational experiences for the enrichment of the entire community.

The Southwest quadrant is known for its entrepreneurs and creatives. To further this effort, the City has purchased and plans to renovate 300 A Oak St. into a small-scale manufacturing hub with a $4 million federal grant.
