Hello and welcome to Term 1. Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful and safe Christmas and 2023 brings everything you hoped.

At the College we are excited to be delivering a range of courses that provide opportunities right across our community. Opportunities for new careers, new interests and new friends. Many courses are subsidised by the NSW Government providing several fee free options.

We have lots of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors in term one. Join us for lawn bowls at Kew Country Club. Your trainer, Ida, is an accredited coach who has been bowling for 12 years. Learn to play, get fit and have a lot of fun. Its time to take your DSLR camera outside for a photo trail walk, sunrise photography or sunset photography. Why not do all three classes at this beautiful time of year.

We have been offering our Mental Health First Aid course for over three years so its time for some of our early students to take the refresher course. Join many of the college staff as we hone our skills and maintain our ability to help those around us.

The NSW government is continuing to support training in key areas, and we are keen to talk to you about a career change or further qualifications in the care sector. Have a look at our accredited courses or call in to the office. There has never been a better time to retrain or skill up.

I look forward to meeting you throughout the term as you make the most of your community college. Don’t forget, we are always looking for new courses so if you have any ideas or experience training adults, we would love to hear from you.

In October last year our community garden volunteers had the privilege of participating in the Switch on Seymour Street project, an initiative put together by Port Macquarie Hastings Council and funded by the NSW Government under the Streets as Shared Spaces Program.

Alison Payne, our Volunteer Community Garden Coordinator and her fellow community garden volunteers used their wealth of gardening knowledge to construct an edible garden inside of a dinghy. The dinghy was arranged and painted by the lovely men from our local Laurieton Men’s Shed and is now on display to the public in Seymour Street.

Our volunteers spend many hours each week inside the community garden maintaining everything and growing all sorts of wonderful fresh produce. You will find a ‘Free’ basket hanging on the community garden fence, where volunteers place freshly harvested produce for the community to take home for free.

We encourage the community to make the most of this accessible edible garden on Seymour Street, full of edible herbs and flowers, by harvesting what you need and helping to water if looking wilted.
