CAMDEN COMMUNITY IMPACT AWARD Saint Joseph’s Carpenters Society

The Camden Community Impact Award recognizes organizations that have demonstrated extraordinary leadership, commitment, and tangible contributions to the empowerment and advancement of Camden’s residents.

For more than 40 years, Saint Joseph’s Carpenter Society (SJCS) has been a cornerstone of Camden’s revitalization—creating affordable housing, stabilizing neighborhoods, and empowering families to build wealth. What began as a small effort to help one family secure a better home has grown into a movement that has touched more than 2,200 houses across the city, producing over 1,000 new homes and repairing more than 1,100 others.

Building on this legacy, SJCS has extended its impact through workforce development. With the opening of their workforce development center located in East Camden, SJCS is equipping residents with the skills, certifications, and supports needed to access family-sustaining careers. By coupling construction training and credentialing programs with wraparound services, the organization is preparing Camden residents for in-demand jobs while strengthening the local labor force.

The results are transformative: homebuyers supported by SJCS have created over $100 million in household equity, with 84% of original buyers or their families still in their homes. At the same time, SJCS’s workforce initiatives are expanding opportunity for the next generation—ensuring that Camden’s residents can not only live in strong neighborhoods but also thrive in the careers that sustain them.

CAMDEN COMMUNITY IMPACT AWARD

Parkside Business & Community in Partnership

The Camden Community Impact Award recognizes organizations that have demonstrated extraordinary leadership, commitment, and tangible contributions to the empowerment and advancement of Camden’s residents.

For over 25 years, PBCIP has led efforts to preserve Camden’s historic Parkside community by integrating affordable housing, commercial development, and quality-of-life initiatives into a comprehensive model for neighborhood stabilization.

Today, PBCIP continues to deliver on that vision with projects that create new owner-occupied homes, restore vacant properties, and advance mixed-use development along Haddon Avenue. Guided by the belief that revitalization should restore rather than replace, PBCIP’s work strengthens the social fabric of the neighborhood while creating opportunities for families to build stability and wealth.

Through a holistic approach rooted in community leadership, PBCIP has transformed blight into vibrancy and empowered residents to shape their future—establishing Parkside as both a model for sustainable growth and a vibrant community for generations to come.

CAMDEN COMMUNITY IMPACT AWARD

Hopeworks

The Camden Community Impact Award recognizes organizations that have demonstrated extraordinary leadership, commitment, and tangible contributions to the empowerment and advancement of Camden’s residents.

Founded in 2000, Hopeworks is a nonprofit social enterprise with a clear mission: to use technology, trauma-informed care, and market-based businesses to transform lives. Rooted in Camden, Hopeworks has grown into a nationally recognized model for how workforce development and youth empowerment can work hand in hand to create lasting change.

Hopeworks serves young adults ages 17–26, 99% of whom enter the program unemployed and facing systemic barriers. Through intensive training in high-demand fields including web development, data visualization, and geographic information systems, participants gain technical skills that employers seek. Equally important, they receive career coaching, soft skill development, and barrier-reduction supports— including housing, food assistance, and mental health referrals—that ensure they are ready to succeed both on the job and in life.

A hallmark of Hopeworks is its in-house businesses, where participants earn paid, real-world experience that bridges the gap between training and employment. This approach works: graduates consistently earn more than $44,000 annually, with a job retention rate exceeding 90% after one year.

By coupling workforce readiness with a trauma-informed approach, Hopeworks is helping young adults unlock their potential, transform their futures, and strengthen the communities they call home.

CAMDEN COMMUNITY IMPACT AWARD Providing Alternative Resources for Kids

The Camden Community Impact Award recognizes organizations that have demonstrated extraordinary leadership, commitment, and tangible contributions to the empowerment and advancement of Camden’s residents.

Providing Alternative Resources for Kids (P.A.R.K. CMD) envisions communities where every child has the support, role models, and opportunities to overcome systemic disadvantages and realize their dreams. Grounded in that vision, P.A.R.K. CMD creates transformative experiences in sports, education, mentorship, and family support—cultivating confident, capable, and compassionate young leaders who, in turn, uplift families, strengthen neighborhoods, and drive positive change.

P.A.R.K. CMD leads initiatives that meet critical needs and foster positive growth: mentoring programs, academic scholarships, health and fitness activities that promote nonviolence, and communitybased events such as toy drives and family support efforts. Signature programs— including the Camden Peace Games Basketball Tournament—bring youth, families, and partners together to encourage resilience, teamwork, and unity. By teaching young people to rebound from setbacks and empowering them to lead in their chosen fields, P.A.R.K. CMD helps youth thrive and inspire the next generation to do the same.

Guided by core values—uncompromising commitment to youth success; the power of community and role models; equity and opportunity for every child; resilience and empowerment; integrity and accountability; and collaboration and innovation—P.A.R.K. CMD operates with purpose and care. Through this holistic, community-centered approach, the organization strengthens bonds across Camden and expands opportunity for the city’s youth, building a lasting cycle of empowerment and resilience.
